It was our first time to try and it was not bad, the calamari and shrimp appetizer were good, I had Shrimp Palermo, it was okay a little bland for my taste, fish tacos was just okay too. I would say i liked the appetizer better than my main. The service was good she is friendly and attentive. The restaurant is a right size and was surprised it was full when we left. Overall, an okay place especially if you like American food
Great food, fine service, fun atmosphere (but loud). We enjoyed some craft cocktails and delicious steak rolls before our entrees.
My husband and I ended up coming here for brunch before a snow storm hit! The service was 10 out of 10 and they had many recommendations for drink options. I would recommend sitting in a booth far away from the door during winter because the breeze can be quite cold. The booths are also super comfortable and very well padded. My husband ended up getting the chorizo scramble which he liked a lot. I ended up ordering the steak and eggs. The compound butter that comes with the steak and eggs is amazing on toast or steak. I got a blood orange drink that was OK, but I wouldn't get it again. The second drink I got was with Rose and lavender and I would definitely get that again. We love this place. This is our second time going and we will be back!
We visited on a Tuesday, and they do $2 off drinks and apps all night. Drinks were great as usual, but they were a bit busy, so the service was slow. My steak was cooked well, but the peppercorn sauce lacked flavor and was a bit watery. All in all, another good meal was had here at Civil Libations. We'll visit again!
Heard so much about this place, so I just had to try it. I am so glad I did!! When you walk in it's nice, clean with modern decore. Spacious seating for everyone. They halve a lot of choice that sounds so good, but was craving seafood. So I ordered the "Crab Omlette l" and it comes with spuds. I asked for the queso bronco sauce on the side, but didn't realize they mix the crab I'm the sauce. I was kinda surprised and upset cause they should have labeled it " Crab Queso Sauce" I really thought they would put the lump of Crab on top. And I don't feel it was a lump of crab! Other then that the dish was tasty And the potato spuds was really yummy with the cheese. I will definitely come back, but definitely will ask everytime if they put the main protein in the sauce.
Civil Libations is a great spot for VA Beach locals. The ambiance, service and location are great! I really enjoyed my Tuna Burger and sweet potato fries! The group I was with all enjoyed their food and drinks!
Came for dinner on Valentine's Day with a reservation, the restaurant was decently full. It's a pretty small space, and was pretty loud, so if that's not your thing I would avoid. The service was good and pretty fast despite it being a "holiday" and the food was delicious. Would recommend this place for a more casual dining experience with great cocktails and a diverse menu.

We came here for our pre-Valentine's Day dinner. Our waiter was really nice. He was prompt and he paid attention and was an attentive listener, which was really nice as a server. I got an appetizer or a starter. That was the grilled rustic bread along with the seafood pasta, and my boyfriend got the Civil burger. I forgot the name of the drink, but it was an espresso martini. Everything was delicious and tasted really good and the meal was cooked perfectly! Wish their menu was a bit bigger with a lot more variety. Overall a 5 star place!

The bar was full but we did manage to find 3 seats. The HH is straighforward. $2 off apps and drinks. We started with Squash Rings and Tuna Tower. My friend also got the Beet Salad but I don't like beets. The squash rings were good. Great dipping sauce and they stayed together when you bit into them. The portion was a good size. The tuna tower....you just can't go wrong. delicious. I wish it was higher up and not so flat but that is just me. I think it looks more impressive. I love the micro greens! All the apps sound good. The drinks are fun. Personally I just like a basic drink but I do like the names and the ingredients and presentation....just not the price tag. There is plenty of parking since it's in a shopping center. I would definitely go back - I do love the appetizer options and there is a few I want to try.

Our server was great and very attentive. I started with a seasonal drink that had lychee - very good. I ordered the Hawaiian tuna tower for appetizer (not really a raw fish kinda gal) and I enjoyed it. Good flavor. I ordered one of their specials - grilled swordfish that I paired with sweet potato fries and sautéed greens. I love sweet potato fries that are crispy and flavorful and these were on point. Almost made a happy dance at the table. Devoured it. The swordfish was good but it could have use a little kick. No dessert because I was stuffed. Will come back again when I am in the area.

Tables were being cleared out after the previous happy customers and fresh tables being set up by multiple team members. Teamwork is just one thing that makes Civil Libation successful. The team cheerfully works well together. When we were seated, Savannah brought us ice water and took our drink orders from a large menu of specialty cocktails. We enjoyed "Blades of Glory" and "Mercury in Retrograde" tonight. I always look forward to a great appetizer and Civil Libation has plenty of tasty choices. The Tuna Nachos (my favorite) blue corn nachos are loaded with tuna, avocado, and veggies. Savannah was one very busy person, but she still provided my wife and me with personalized world class service. The timing of the entrees was perfect as they arrived shortly after we finished our app. My wife's "Forbidden Bowl" features salmon, avocado, black rice and more. I ordered the Sesame Tuna and Noodles. The two large chunks of tuna were crusted with toasted sesame seeds and cooked exactly as I requested (Barely) I am certain that the chef will cook your order exactly to your preference. Dinner was excellent and we took home our leftovers in the compostable containers. I will be back again and again!

Service - I'm starting with service because it was impeccable. The server was attentive and the food was delivered not long after we ordered it without compromising the food composition. Food - We had the scallops and risotto and the seafood pasta. The scallops were blackened perfectly. The risotto was good but could be cooked just a little longer. However, the flavor was on point. The seafood was extra creamy and filled with large pieces of scallops and shrimp. We ordered the Funk Dafies and both of us loved that drink if you like some smoke and spice. We also ordered the Hole in One but didn't like it as much as the first. More lemon tasting than strong bourbon. I bet they would make great staples like a martini or old fashioned. Ambience- I love the new American vibe, industrial with splashes of colorful artwork. Plenty of room to navigate and a nice bar centered the restaurant for an aesthetically pleasing entrance. read more

I'm a girl of second chances and was so happy that I was able to visit Civil Libation again. My experience was amazing. The waitress was so sweet. I wish I could remember her name. She totally made up for my previous experience. On this visit I took my daughter , she and I, and were seated in the dining area near a window. We ordered drinks to start. I had the Friends with Benefits and my daughter had the Thats What she said. Both drinks were amazing! Drink menu picture is posted so you can see what's in them! For dinner I had the crab cakes on top of grilled corn served with fresh sautéed spinach and mashed potatoes! The crab cakes were so good. Lots of lump crab. No fillers. My sides were the perfect addition to this dinner. 10+ for the crab cake dinner. My daughter ordered the stuffed chicken. Also, great meal. Large juicy chicken breast, seasoned to perfection stuffed with goat cheese!!! I'm glad I went back to Civil Libation and will be going back to try more items on the menu! read more

Not a regular just yet but we enjoy coming. We came with friends and had the chance to try other things. Started with the steak rolls and the chicken yakitori. The rolls are delicious. For dinner I had the ribeye and hubby had the filet, both ordered rare. Mine was definitely med rare and that's fine but the filet was perfectly cooked and very tasty. You only get 1 small side with the entree which is not the norm but hey it's inflation right. Had the delicious cocktail that's what she said, I would order that again. read more

We stopped her on the amazing Yelp reviews for brunch when the spot we had wanted to try had a two hour wait. This place was pretty good. I wouldn't say it was great but it wasn't bad either. It is one of those restaurants that I would go to if others were going as well. My husband got the southwest skillet which he said it was a little potato heavy . My son liked the banana fosters french toast and he said was decent but nothing specials. He wishes there was more banana to it. My daughter had the. Spaghetti pancake from the kids menu. It was a little on the small side but she enjoyed it. The blueberry waffles were good too. We also tried the butternut squash rings which were pretty decent. Service was excellent. read more
I've always passed this place whenever I went to the movies, but never tried it until now. There's so much indoor seating, I never would have guessed! Some outdoor seating as well. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was the artwork! Super eclectic and colorful. I loved the vibe. Our waitress was amazing. It was all of our first times (we came in with a group of 4 right when it opened) and she was very sweet and accommodating. I looked at the menu ahead of time and wanted something off of the lunch menu but noticed that menu wasn't given to us. I asked about it and she let us know we can order from the breakfast or lunch menu at any time so I was relieved :) She gave us a rundown of general customer favorites which was super helpful in deciding what to try first! We started off with the civil donut holes and we were fickle about getting them because they are made with butternut squash... but it was actually SO good, you could see the butternut squash but not taste it! It made us feel better ordering them since it had veggies in it lol. It also didn't feel as heavy as regular donuts so I still had room for my entree afterwards :) I had the Hawaiian tuna tower which is a shareable appetizer but I ate it as an entree. I was worried it wouldn't fill me up and I'm kind of skeptical ordering raw fish at non-sushi or poke restaurants, but I was pretty satisfied after trying it! It also was very fresh! My wonton crisps I feel like we're a tad bit underbaked but overall the dish was delicious. The sauce was super tangy and definitely added the kick to this dish. I've heard their cocktails are pretty epic. I'll definitely have to come back and try some of their breakfast items and cocktails next time :) I enjoyed this place and would recommend to people in the area! read more

I really enjoyed my whole experience ! My friend and I came with our kids on a foodie date. Our waitress was the absolute sweetest and asked to play with my kid which was super helpful she even offered to box our food up for us ! I am really grateful for her. The food was absolutely delicious I loved my Cajun pasta! I am not a fan of grilled bread I feel like that is an acquired taste. My cocktail was absolutely amazing as well. The dessert could have been warmer but it was still good. It was a nice slow day when we came so it wasn't packed. Definitely a restaurant I would go to for some peace and quiet. read more
The food wasn't bad I only got the bread, chicken yakitori, and fries. Not enough garlic and rice to match the portion of chicken. The olive oil and bread was definitely good. Service could've been better if I didn't have to ask for a few things several times. However we did have a large party of 11. I might come back to try other menu items though. read more

I went in with a friend and our kids on a Friday afternoon for lunch. The restaurant was spacious, clean, with up to date decor. It definitely made for a nice venue. Our service was nice with good energy, always being attentive to us and making sure we were good. The cocktails were sweet but strong! It was a great balance where you didn't taste the alcohol but still got a decent buzz after 2 drinks. Our kids got Mac & Cheese and OMGGGG! There is a reason I forgot to take pics of it. It was sooo good 100/10. I almost ate the whole bowl for my kid. It almost felt like it was drugged because there was no reason for a dish as simple as that to taste that amazing lmao the sauce was super creamy and flavorful with the macaroni cooked well. I got the scallop risotto and it was a 8/10. I loved it a lot! The scallops melted and fell apart in your mouth. I love how it was the perfect amount of seasoning where it was like you can taste the ocean, but it wasn't at all too salty. The risotto had a nice texture as well and was almost well seasoned. I added a few dashes of salt to it and it got it to be the 9.5/10 dish I know it could be. Again, I love how it wasn't overly seasoned and you could taste and appreciate the ingredients in a subtle but not at all bland way. The mushrooms were a nice touch to ensure that the dish doesn't get boring after a few bites along with the scallops. I wasn't too much of a fan for the cinnamon bun bread pudding. It was made well but it just wasn't my cup of tea. The pieces were moist and well coated in cinnamon and sauce. But to me, the cinnamon flavor was both overwhelming and dull after a few bites. Maybe making it into a dessert bowl, cutting up the pieces, and pouring a lighter sauce might be better? That's just my personal opinion. Again, there wasn't really anything wrong with it, it just wasn't for me. Overall, I like this place a lot and I would love to come back and try their brunch menu. I for sure recommend everyone else to try this place out if they haven't already. read more

What a fun little spot for some tasty treats. We took Uber from our hotel after some cocktails, this location is about 7 miles from the Virginia Beach hotels. Service was excellent and we were served cocktails and food very promptly. Make a reservation! read more

Here is my rundown on the place: Service was a 3.5/5- When we arrived at 4:30 for an early Saturday night dinner before a concert our waitress was very attentive but as the place filled up she was hardly around and had to flag her down for drink refills. Another reason for not the best score with our server left out a key piece of information when describing the fish special of the day. It was mahi mahi over coconut rice. She forgot to mention that it had a Cajun spice rub on the fish. For someone who can't handle spice it was too spicy for me, even with the mango relish. Food: 3.5/5: Fish special Mahi Mahi-cooked very well just too spicy for me. The coconut rice really had no coconut flavor but the green beans were cooked just right. Steak with andouille sausage gravy over French fries was very good. French fries were very crispy. Steak Egg Rolls- Seeing the rave reviews I was expecting a better filling flavor but were just so-so. They were nice and crispy. Veggie Burger with a side salad- my friend who ordered this dish enjoyed it and it was a good portion. It's a nice establishment and would like to come back to try other dishes as their menu has some items they sound yummy. read more

We came on a busy Saturday night but they were able to seat the 6 of us. They were friendly and fast with getting our orders. The kiddos loved the egg roll appetizer we had to order another plate. The salmon salad was delish and the salmon was cooked good. Not overdone so it's dry. The steak was also good. Love how this restaurant is close to home so we can come back and try other items on their menu. read more
