    Fried Green Tomato appy, yum

Looking for a money brunch spot in VA Beach, look no more as Rustic Spoon is a solid choice. Started w/a Bacon Bloody w/shrimp skewer and then onto a Key Lime Crush. Oh yeah for food the biscuits were nice and buttery and fluffy, fried green tomato appy was a nice choice, I had the Carnitas Benedict and the Mushroom Toast stole the show.

The Rustic Spoon came to the Red Mill Commons Shopping Center in April 2023 after some delays during the pandemic. They are located behind the Panera Bread and can be seen from Upton Dr. My most recent visit here was on January 18, 2026. From the outside, you can see the sign for the business on the side and out front. There is some limited outdoor seating as well. With other businesses along that stretch and such, parking can be limited during peak times. I can attest to that as parking was limited when I came on January 16, 2026 (this wasn't an issue on the most recent visit). The reason for two visits pretty close together was because this was during Virginia Beach Restaurant Week. The visit on January 16, 2026 was for dinner and the visit on January 18, 2026 was for breakfast. Starting with the dinner visit on January 16, 2025, it was already pretty busy in there as there was a large party event going on with half of the seating area. This probably explains why parking was limited that evening. Even though that was the case, we were immediately greeted and able to be seated. It wasn't long before our server Megan came to the table. She asked us what we wanted to drink. I went with water with lemon and mom got a coke. It would take us a bit of time to choose what we wanted. I ended up going with the Firecracker Shrimp appetizer and Fried Shrimp Platter for the entree. My mom went with the Corn Chowder appetizer and Crab Cake Dinner as the entree. After about five minutes, the appetizers came out to the table. The Firecracker Shrimp were very tasty and flavorful. My mom loved the Corn Chowder that she ordered. About ten minutes after that, the entrees came to the table. Both foods looked good and they were hot as expected. I really liked the fried shrimp as it wasn't overly breaded either. It had a great taste. The fries were good too, and they were like an indulgence for me. The coleslaw was good too. My mom liked the Crab Cake Dinner that she had. The last part was the dessert. I knew this would spike my blood sugars, but I went with the Peanut Butter Pie, and my mom went with the Oreo Outlaw dessert. It didn't take long for those to come out, and that was the ultimate indulgence to finish off the evening. The second visit during the morning on January 18, 2026 for the Breakfast/Lunch version of their restaurant week menu. This was the first time I had been here for breakfast. We had the same server we had a few days before at the dinner version. On this visit, for the appetizer, I decided to try the Risotto Bites and my mom had the Corn Chowder again. For the entree, we both did the Classic French Toast, though I did mine with bacon, and my mom did hers with Edwards Sausage. The Risotto Bites were really good and had a nice flavor to them. The Classic French Toast was a great indulgence for me too. It was soft and hot. The bacon was great too. Overall, I have had some great experiences here recently. The food and service are top notch. There is ample seating inside, and there is some limited outdoor seating. They have daily food specials during the week too. This is definitely a locally owned place to check out for any meal of the day.

The ambiance is ok, may need a little more to make it feel a bit more special. The food and service makes up for the ambiance having a dull feeling. I had the carnitas omelet and it was delish. My friend had the avocado sandwich and it was also excellent. As apps we had the Brussels and they were good just a bit in the too much vinaigrette and needed some salt for me. The tomatoes were so yummy and don't like tomatoes. The drinks were all great!!! The manager or owner was so attentive, totally will return

I finally tried Rustic Spoon & on a night when there wasn't a large crowd! Food was yummy & the service was great! Looking forward to going again to try more of their menu!

My avocado eggs Benedict had soggy English muffins and also the avocado was basically a thin spread, not fresh avocados. Hubby got a Reuben and fries. I did it again, I forgot to ask for unsalted fries. Our server brought me a steaming hot separate bowl of tots without any extra charge. There is a bar in back but the dining area was clean.

Plenty of parking Great service staff are attentive and friendly Ordered studded french toast, coffee, & a la carte bacon. The French toast was fluffy and sweet and filled with an amazing merengue with fruit on top. It was so sweet and delicious. The bacon was crispy and firm. Coffee was hot and smooth. A great meal altogether, a wonderful brunch experience - will definitely return!

Me and my girls got together for a turned up brunch!! We had a reservation and got seated with no issues. Our waitress was friendly and she was attentive to our needs. It was almost a full house, so I'm glad my friend made the reservation. We ordered the berry compote biscuits with cream cheese lemon glaze, the rockfish benedict, calamari, risotto balls, carnitas hash, and Mac n cheese. The Mac n cheese never came, so I just took that as a sign that I didn't need it. Lol. The rockfish was fried well, alone it was bland, but as a whole dish with everything else it was good. You get a grilled green tomato with it, but I feel fried would have been better. But I enjoyed it. The calamari was delicious, the Thai chili sauce was popping popping!! My favorite!! The berry biscuits were good also. They forgot the lemon glaze at first, but quickly fixed it. The risotto balls were good but the sauce that came with it was bland and didn't go well with them. We enjoyed our meals for the most part. I like the Rustic spoon and will certainly return... Ask about their specials!! Check them out!!

My friends and I met up for brunch at The Rustic Spoon on Sunday. The place was pretty packed but thankfully, we made reservations and were able to be seated right away. Our server greeted us and was very friendly. She brought over waters and informed us of the brunch specials menu. After looking everything over, I decided to order the Fried Calamari and the Carnitas Hash, along with a Summer Berry Mimosa. Our food came out fairly quickly and I started by sampling a few things my friends ordered. The Berry Patch Biscuits were definitely on the sweeter side thanks to the berry compote and lemon cream cheese icing, but they were absolutely amazing. The Risotto Bites, on the other hand, were pretty flavorless and underwhelming. The Fried Calamari was fried perfectly and delicious as always. The Carnitas Hash tasted okay, but the potatoes were very hard and overcooked, which was disappointing. Overall, we had a decent time at brunch. A few hits and a few misses, but the atmosphere was lively, and service was good. I'd be open to coming back to try some other dishes.

Stopped by Rustic Spoon for a late lunch/early dinner on a busy Sunday, and I'm so glad I made a reservation. The parking lot was packed, the waitlist was long, but we walked right in and were seated at a great booth--no wait at all. Highly recommend reserving ahead if you're planning to visit, especially on the weekend. I wasn't super hungry, so I kept it light and ordered the homemade biscuits (which I'd heard a lot about) and the fried risotto balls. I also couldn't resist trying the Hot Honey Peach Margarita--and that was the true standout of the meal. That margarita? Five stars. Sweet, spicy, and dangerously good. I'm still thinking about it and honestly want to recreate it at home. The biscuits were warm, fluffy, and delicious--the butter had a unique flavor I almost identified as bacon grease? Not bad, just unexpected. The risotto balls were okay, but the sauce tasted like straight canned tomato paste--thick, bland, and not my favorite. The service was amazing. Our waitress was super friendly, helpful with suggestions, and checked in with us often. You could tell she really cared about making sure we had a great experience. Would I go back? Definitely. Would I order the same food? Maybe not. But for that cocktail, the vibe, and the great service? Absolutely.

I liked the decor and ambiance of this spot and their menu is pretty big so there's something for everyone. We ordered the Japanese style pancakes (they take 25 min to make) which were tasty - very light and fluffy with a hint of sweetness but I'm not in a rush to get them again. I got the carnitas omelet which was also tasty but was deceiving because they stuffed it with some of the breakfast potatoes so it made it look bigger and fuller than it actually was. The meat was nice and tender though. Negatives - my breakfast potatoes were insanely salty though - I only had a few and I didn't care for the red pepper flakes they put on top of my omelet. Also we were debating what to order for my 22 month old and ordered a couple of sides, not realizing they had a kids menu. We were surprised our server didn't point that out. Overall I liked it but would probably order something different next time.

Our large party loved everything about this place. The food was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. Prices were great. The staff was extremely helpful and kind and the restaurant itself was wonderful. Thank you all for such a wonderful brunch!

We came back for the Scotch Egg and wanted to try other different dishes. The fried green tomatoes were delicious!

I've been here several times, and the food is excellent. We made it for happy hour and visited on a Wednesday, and they had a special on burgers. The smash burger, fries, and drinks were fantastic. Service is top notch!

Although we sat outside (because we were dining with a dog), we never had to wait too long for the waitress to check on us. Every 5-10 minutes, she dropped by to make sure things were going well and to refill our coffee. Since The Egg Bistro has a HUGE breakfast menu, I'm sure everyone should be able to find something that they will/might enjoy. For my dining pleasure, I tried something new and went with the Bennie & the Grits. This dish piqued my interest because I never heard of grits cakes in the four decades of living on this planet. For about 20 bucks, the dish included three fried grit cakes with ground sausage, grilled shrimp, more sausage, two poached eggs and a side. Although the serving size was HUGE, I was not a bit fan of the dish. Note, I didn't think the dish was prepared badly, I just didn't get the concept of the fried grits (this from a grits lover); however, everything else with the dish was pretty good. If you are a Bloody Mary lover, you might some interesting varieties of Bloody Marys here. Additionally, I really appreciated that The Egg Bistro ranks the Bloody Marys based on spice level. Overall, I definitely would not mind visiting this location during a future trip to Va Beach. The only (very) minor issue that I had was that the outdoor seating is right next to the parking lot so you might experience some exhaust fumes/smoke while eating if you chose to dine outside. Again, this would not have been a (very) minor issue if we were not dining with a dog.

You will require this, as well as the outdoor bar and large outdoor seating area, because it is likely that you will be waiting before you have the opportunity to be seated and take advantage of the food offerings. With the parking out-of-the-way, and your expectation that you will be waiting about the length of a feature film behind you during busy periods, let's get to the food. There is a straightforward charm, and there are biscuits, but the value add really isn't there for the amount of time investment and at the price point. Service is workmanlike and pleasant, seating is tight as you might imagine. To be fair, there is some creativity in the dish naming and drink presentation. Taken on its own merits, I would rate it as a three out of five. This is the sort of place that generates a lot of attention and buzz because of its location in an affluent area and because of word of mouth. But the fare is not of such a spectacular quality that the peak hour waits justify.

Looking around the establishment, it's probably more of a neighborhood spot. One thing that did catch my eye was the wall behind the bartender, it was packed with alcohol and different beers, made it easy to what the places served and draws your eyes in. Anyway, after about 25 minutes, our food was brought to us. The food, I can't speak honestly say my pancakes were good, my omelette was okay but the hash browns were too thin and overcooked to a crisp. So I recommend the pancakes if you're thinking of trying this place out and anything else you'd have to decide on your own.

The two main roads they are located in between is Nimmo Pkwy and Elson Green Ave. My most recent visit here was on June 6, 2026. With the place being located in a shopping center, parking wasn't an issue, even though it was on a Saturday morning. The outside of the place is simple, but you can see the place easily with the green lettering. When my mom and I came inside, we were able to just find a table and then they would come by in a moment. It was a bit busy, but I was surprised that it took them several minutes to finally come to the table to get the menus and drink orders placed. Once the drinks came to the table, our server asked us if we were ready to order, but we weren't quite yet. I went with water with lemon for a drink while my mom went with Pepsi since they have Pepsi products here. She came back a few minutes later, and we were finally ready to order. I decided to go with the French Toast Breakfast Specialty along with Crispy Bacon, 2 Eggs, and a Biscuit on the side as a la carte items. My mom went with the 2 Eggs & 2 Items Breakfast Special. She did hers with French Toast (1.5 Slices), Crispy Bacon, and two scrambled eggs. It was less than 10 minutes for the food to come out, which was a nice surprise considering how busy they were on this visit. The entrees looked really good and hot when they came out. I don't do the syrups any longer due to the high sugar content, so I just did the French Toast with butter on it, which was good the way it was. The bacon was nice and crispy, along with the scrambled eggs being good too. The biscuit was a great way to finish off the meal. Although the meal did elevate the glucose higher than I thought, it was still good. My mom said the food she had was good too, and there were no issues. Overall, this experience was better than the last time I was here about ten years ago. The service was a little off at first since it took awhile for them to get to the table originally. There was a feeling of being rushed to order, but I guess that's because it is a small space inside with limited seating. One thing to note about that is if you come on a weekend or a holiday, there is a limit of 90 minutes to be there. If you're in the Red Mill Commons area and looking for a breakfast spot, this place is still worth considering.

The game itself was lively, well-paced, and everyone seemed to have a great time. The patio where the event was held is beautiful, and it was spacious enough for the crowd. The only downside to the seating was that some guests ended up behind a wall where they could hear the caller but couldn't actually see her or the plants being awarded. One suggestion that I think would make the event even better is the prize structure. When there are ties, the winners have to play rock-paper-scissors to determine who gets the plant. While that's part of the fun, I felt bad for the people who won their bingo card but ultimately went home with a donated T-shirt, soil, or plant food instead of a plant. Even a small, inexpensive plant for the runner-up would make the experience feel more rewarding, especially since the event is centered around plants. The food and service were a bit of a mixed experience. I ordered the California Club with sweet potato fries, and it was delicious. However, the menu was more limited than expected, and we were told some of the regular menu items (including the tacos!) weren't available during the event. Our server was genuinely pleasant and did the best she could, but she appeared to be covering more tables than one person reasonably should. Service was slow, and we had to remind her about our drinks after our food had already arrived. It felt more like a staffing issue than a service issue. One thing I didn't care for was the payment process. We were only brought a credit card slip with the total to add a tip and sign after our card had already been charged. We had to specifically ask for an itemized receipt to review the charges. I would have preferred the opportunity to see the bill before my card was run or at least have the option to use a different payment method. The event advertising was also a little misleading. The description said, "Join us for 20 rounds of bingo, raffle entries, plant prizes, tacos & drinks!" Based on that wording, it certainly sounded like tacos and non-alcoholic beverages were included with the ticket price. Instead, everything had to be purchased separately, and we were told the tacos (which are on the regular restaurant menu) weren't even available during the event due to the limited event menu. Clarifying that food and drinks are available for purchase would help set better expectations. Despite those issues, we genuinely enjoyed ourselves. I was fortunate enough to win one of the plants, and it's beautiful. My suggestions are simply things I think would make an already fun event even better for everyone. The energy of Plant Bingo, the beautiful patio, the organized check-in, and the friendly atmosphere made for an enjoyable evening, and with a few improvements to the prize distribution, staffing, payment process, and event advertising, it could easily become an even better experience.

The check-in process was seamless; my group received our bingo cards and the flyer outlining the 20 game plays, and we appreciated the flexibility of the indoor and outdoor seating. The service was both friendly and efficient. We were required to start a tab; I was unsure if this is standard policy or specific to the event, but either way it worked out well. I ordered the Baja bowl: grilled chicken, black beans, corn, cheddar cheese, tomatoes, and avocado served on cilantro-lime rice topped with tortilla strips and Aji Verde sauce. My bowl was delicious, fresh and portioned just right. The plant selections for the prizes were great, I actually won a Pothos Yellow Flame. I do have two suggestions: 1. Consider having extra plant prizes available for tie-breaking rounds instead of playing rock-paper-scissors. If you win you deserve a plant. 2. It would be helpful if guests were provided with a copy of their bill to verify for accuracy before their card is charged and the tab is closed. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the meal and the event. I look forward to returning to Sage Kitchen soon.

I ordered the Williamsburg Bagel, which consisted of lox, plain cream cheese, tomato, capers, and red onion. I originally wanted it on an Everything bagel, but since they were out, I went with a Garlic bagel instead. Even though it was a tad bit crowded, my sandwich was ready in about 5 mins. I've had the Williamsburg Bagel before so I was excited to enjoy it again but I wasn't a big fan of the thick-cut red onions they added on there, and I actually love onions! Unfortunately, I ended up taking most of them off. I also wish it had more cream cheese, the thin layer on the bottom just wasn't enough for me. That said, the bagel itself was fresh and overall, the sandwich tasted good. At almost $20, it did feel a little pricey for a bagel sandwich, but I enjoyed it. I'd definitely come back to try other options. The interior is full of Brooklyn pictures, which I love! Definitely check them out if you're in the area!

My husband and a friend came here on a Thursday morning to order 6 items and they were gone for almost an hour (it was a 10 minute drive from where we stayed). They come back with a bag of "bagels" (if that's what you want to call them) drenched in ketchup. Our orders were extremely simple: BEC w/PK on a plain bagel Egg and cheese on a croissant BEC w/PK on an asiago bagel Taylored Ham, egg & cheese on a bagel Toasted everything bagel with lox & cream cheese Here is everything that went wrong: 1. The bagel store didn't offer BACON, so we ended up substituting for sausage. The sausage patty was probably the size of my kid's palm- that's how small it was. The eggs were overcooked and had no taste, but don't worry, they'll make sure to smother the entire bagel with ketchup to make up for it. 2. TOASTED bagel with lox & cream cheese- bagel was not toasted, and there wasn't any lox available. 3. Egg & cheese on a croissant- the place didn't have any croissants... so had to substitute this for a roll 4. It was the chef's second day in the kitchen. Bagels alone wasn't great quality..it was edible enough, but extremely chewy and stiff, especially after taking so long to prepare the orders and with two people working in a place that is seemingly popular with the Yelp Community, the amount of time it took this order to be ready was a little ridiculous. I ordered the same thing back home the following day and it took less time to make here in NJ than it did here on a non-busy day with just my husband and friend as their sole customer at the time.
