We stopped at this restaurant for the first time today! The owner & chef were wonderful-very welcome & helpful with recommendations. Fried shrimp were the best I've had in my life (and I think frying seafood is a crime! Haha). She crab soup & French dip were both excellent. A lady came in and sat at a table next to us with a very specific allergy. If you're in Virginia Beach looking for a nice place to have dinner, I recommend checking out Sea Salt Grill located in The Capes Hotel. With outdoor seating overlooking the ocean, and viewing of beach goers and families walking along the boardwalk this was very easy to relax at. Our waiter was attentive and friendly, making us feel welcome. The Pungo Punch was delicious and refreshing, I was convinced to have two. For an appetizer, the steak bites were perfectly cooked and seasoned with a horseradish sauce for dipping on the side. Finally for my main entree, I got the fish of the day which was a large piece of flounder, fried and served with tarter sauce, French fries, hush puppies and coleslaw. Before going to the beach, my friends and I got brunch at Sea Salt Grill! I got the crabcake benny and my friends ordered the eggs benny and a collection of sides (yogurt bowl, toast and eggs). The eggs were perfectly poached and doused on hollandaise sauce, but I wish that the hashbrowns were presented more nicely. The inclusion of some greens or some vegetables on the dish would have also improved the presentation. My friend didn't enjoy the cranberries in her yogurt bowl and felt that the whole bowl was very sweet. However, the view of the beach was beautiful and the food wasn't too bad. read more

This little grill tucked away in the corner of a hotel on the boardwalk on 20th Street is a true gem. I had the flounder club sandwich, which was large and cooked to perfection. In fact, It's the best fish sandwich I've had outside the Florida Keys. There are only three tables inside and bar seating, with most of the seating outside-- but that depends on the weather. The grilled medium rare Ahi was great. The Mahi fish and chips was dry, crumbly and inedible. Crab cake appetizer was good. The coleslaw sides were fermenting and tasted like garbage. The ketchup has been recycled enough times that it tastes very stale. The waitress was nice and attentive. There's a lot of nice seafood restaurants in the area. Total beach diner. Rain storm was coming so we sat inside at one of the two tables. Most seating is outside so we got lucky!! Hush puppies are sweet - delicious. Our kids ordered hot chocolates to warm up and they served it topped with whipped cream. Mixed drinks seem premixed I believe my strawberry margarita was really daiquiri mix but oh well only had one and it atleast had some alcohol in it. Food was great. I ordered fish tacos, only one tiny strip of fish in taco it could have used 3 or 4 for the price and would have been much better than mostly lettuce. After driving for more than 10 hours yesterday to get to Virginia Beach, we were tired and starving. This place was next to our hotel and we decided to try it even though reviews were very mixed. Service was not great. At all. She forgot my son's drink and the people next to us weren't happy either because of a mix up. It wasn't busy, so it is not as if the server was overwhelmed with a crowd. The vibe? Not good. We started outside on the patio, which was fine because of the view. It was raining, so we were forced inside. This is where things seemed to go even more downhill. It was stuffy, dirty, with leftover lettuce from past diners adorning the chipped table. There was a fridge next to us and the food in it (olives and cherries) looked to be way past their prime. My son's medium rare burger arrived well done. The hush puppies were super dry and tasteless. The she crab soup was very bland and super disappointing. We could NOT wait to get out of there so we could order takeout from across the street to eat back at our hotel room. We ate here for lunch and it was so good that we returned for breakfast the next day! Very small, I think most of the tables are outside, but there is very good umbrella coverage and a nice breeze since it's steps from the ocean! Both of our waitresses went above and beyond. When I asked if they had anything OTHER than an Everything bagel (I'm allergic to sesame)... the waitress went and FOUND a plain bagel. Menu items that we loved included the steak bites, the tuna bites, hushpuppies, and surprisingly, the parmesan crusted broiled fresh tomatoes! The Flounder sandwich was HUGE with a nice serving of fries. The wedge salad was plenty for two to share. Prices were very reasonable, especially for their fabulous location. Pleasantly surprised! Our lunch started off a little shaky. Wait time was long(even with a reservation ) , service was a little slow. HOWEVER!!! It was all worth the wait! I've been going to this restaurant a couple of times and it was good but last time I went I asked for medium rare burger and it was over cooked. On top of that they charged me and my daughter extra for fries when the menu clearly states it comes with one side. I will never go there again . I don't like crooks and the old lady that rerang my bill up is going to take that once a good restaurant to the ground. I don't recommend this to anyone. Stay away and if you do make sure your bill is good. read more

We planned to eat somewhere else and the place was closed so we googled for nearby places and we were so glad we chose the Sea Salt Grill. It doesn't look very promising on the outside but the location on the boardwalk was a big plus. The stars of this place, however, are its food and staff. We have dined in better looking and better reviewed places on the beach BUT this place offered REALLY good food. Frank, our server, was perfectly attentive--gave us everything we needed even before we needed it. The fried flounder was crispy, well seasoned and not greasy. The wedge salad was good-- the lettuce and tomatoes were cool, crisp and fresh, simple but many others still fail to execute it well. The she crab soup was divine! Creamy and with generous lumps of crab! The shrimp po boy and sea salt burger were also very good. We were lucky to meet the chef, Jeff, who asked us about our meal. He told us that he was being helped by his nephew, Taylor. There was no time for dessert but we are definitely coming back to this place every time we are at the beach. read more
