(3-ish stars... with musical bonus points) We visited Old Beach Tavern for dinner and live music, and let's just say it was a full experience. The band, Shannon and the Reunion, absolutely crushed it -- they were the real MVPs of the night. Great energy, great sound, and honestly worth the trip alone. Now... about the food. It took about an hour and a half to arrive. By the time it hit the table, we had aged slightly and considered starting a small herb garden. When it finally arrived, it was... barely warm. Like "took a quick stroll past the oven" warm. The twist? It was actually tasty! If it had arrived hot and before we finished a second round of drinks, we might've been writing a five-star love letter. Old Beach Tavern has potential -- the flavor is there, the vibe is fun, and the band is fantastic. But they might want to consider inviting Gordon Ramsay for a motivational pep talk in the kitchen. Went to see band on Sat night. Ordered some appetizers and waited for over an hour. Saw other guests come in well after us and they were getting served. Had to flag down our waitress who was clueless and said the kitchen was backed up, which made no sense since other later tables were all getting their orders. Ended up with no apology and walked out. Came here 01/13/2023 to see River Boyz and they sure did not disappoint. If you have never seen this band. I highly recommend if you love old school rock! We got here around 630p. Since the parking lot is small they offered Valet parking that night, which I recommend as parking is very limited when they have this available. Please be aware of your surroundings if you are not utilizing valet as you could get towed. Marcos Pizza and Duck Donuts is next door and you cannot park there. We were a party of 6 and most of the tables to the left were reserved, which we did not know we could do...we made a note to do that next time. We were seated at a booth near the stage. The booths sit 4 comfortably but definitely not 6 but we made it work for a bit basically to eat. It took a while for waitress to come, we had to ask the FOH to get someone for us. Food: OBT nachos, Buffalo Chicken wrap Drink: Aperol Spritz The nachos were good but small, best to share with 2-3 people but not more. My Buffalo chicken wrap was ok, I did not get the ranch that was suppose to come and tried to get some but our waitress was super busy, not gonna fault her since everyone is short on help. I also got the Aperol Spritz drink and received this in a 16oz clear plastic cup and was really good, so ordered another and this time it came in a much smaller cup and that bummed me out that this was not consistent, so I did not order another because of that. My husband and I stopped in this weekend to sit at the bar and listen to some live music. It was VERY crowded inside. It's got plenty of booth and bar seating with a U-shaped bar in the center with seating all around and booths and tables all throughout the place. They have a large stage for live music which they have several times a week and in the back left they have a small area with some gambling-type games you can sit and play if you'd like. Music was very good and the crowd was all having a great time, dancing up front and enjoying themselves. A large birthday party was also taking place so the joint was hoppin'! We didn't order food bc we had already had dinner earlier but looked over the menu and saw tons of things we'd have ordered: burgers, cheese curds, a few great salads, some sandwiches and other items like fish and chips. For sure going to come back for dinner. A little bit of merch is for sale in the back by the restrooms in a small display. Parking up front was valet but you could self-park in the back if you could find it. The bartenders and staff were all excellent and super friendly. read more

Have been there several times since new owner(Bruce) has repeatedly promised changes coming soon...for months and still nothing. No new beers, no new menu, and no new restaurant name and still can't find the live music schedule on-line. Food was mediocre at best, skinny wings overcooked with no spicy garlic parm on the side as requested and blue cheese was ranch. OBT nachos not bad but really small portion even for an appetizer. Hurry up and administer your changes before we lose faith in all of the broken promises. read more

Good food but awful service. The server (Anthony) appeared to be completely inconvenienced by having a table to wait on. He was also working behind the bar, but there were only about three people at the bar. He was rude and inattentive. I'd recommend the food but if Anthony is the only server, leave and come back another time. read more

Old Beach Tavern was a mixed bad. Had a fun atmosphere and the wait staff was great. But the food, a little less than average. The crab dip had the consistency of soup. We then tried the steak bites. They were tender but not much flavor. I'm pretty sure we'll go back, but it will be because we had a good time. I also think we'll skip the appetizers and try a dinner next time. We've come here a few times but for some reason, it wasn't on our radar lately. I have no idea why?!?!?! This place is very cool and totally fits the vibe we love to hang at. From the outside, you would never expect what you are walking in to. The place is huge with a nice open concept, plenty of seating, a massive bar and very relaxed ambient lights. I am one that likes the lighting less aggressive on the eyes and this place is perfect with that. It is cool for a relaxing evening, to watch sports games, to hang with friends, to enjoy playing pool or listen to live music. It has a lot going on once you actually walk inside. The food is fantastic. Never had anything bad here! They take pride in having fresh, local products and you can tell the difference when you eat it. The craft beer selection is also on point with a great Happy Hour (4-7) leaving enough time for those that get out a little later. They have great daily deals that can satisfy the needs without breaking the bank. My only complaint would be the parking situation. If you have a car that makes you conscious of "door dings", this place could make your skin crawl a little. I see they made an attempt to add more but to me, it's a bit tight as I find myself searching for the most open spot I can find and sometimes that's around the building. However, I just let my wife drive and all is well. Not enough to keep us away and definitely needs to be put back on our list. Overall, this is a great hidden gem that you would never expect from the street offering great deals, food and beverage quality, and a relaxing atmosphere! The Old Beach Tavern is located along Virginia Beach Blvd. near Kings Grant Rd. If heading west on Virginia Beach Blvd., it will be on the right side of the road. The parking here is a bit interesting. It's all angled parking, so it makes for an interesting time coming in or going out. My visit here was on January 6, 2019. After parking, we made our way inside. We were immediately greeted and seated, but then requested to be moved once the server Lexis came over due to the way the sun was coming in at that table. In the end, we were seated near the pool tables, where some were playing when we got seated, but about 10 minutes later they were done. There was a bit of noise going on as well with the football games going on at the bar area. She asked us if this was our first time here, which it was, and also asked what we would want to drink. I ended up just going with water, as I didn't really want anything else. She gave us some time to look over the menu and decide. After a little while, she came back over and we were ready to order. I ended up going with the Southwest Burger with extra onions and fries as the side. The Southwest Burger has pepper jack cheese, pico de gallo, sliced avocados, and chipotle aioli. My mom went with the Tavern Burger. After about 8 to 10 minutes, the burgers were ready and arrived at the table. The burger looked really good and the taste was good as well. I liked the southwest version of a burger. The burger was cooked the way it should be and was hot as well. My mom liked the Tavern Burger, but said it was just okay, but was cooked the way it should have been. Overall, this wasn't a bad place to get a burger. I think part of it was that we almost felt a bit out of place since we hadn't been there before. I know we were there on the off season, but it did seem to be somewhat of a dive as well. The food and service were good. I would come back again in the future, but maybe not when football games are on due to the noise (yelling at the televisions, etc.). read more

My husband came in here on a Thursday Night. Live music was great. Mike Proffitt was playing. I have been here before but it's been awhile. Parking is tight!! So if you are going and can't decide if you want to drive the truck or the Fiat, I would take the Fiat. :) We were greeted and seated immediately. We just missed happy hour at 6. We ordered some draft beers and appetizers. It's nice inside with a pool table and about a dozen tv's. The bar is a nice size with plenty of seating. Booths in the dining area and plenty of high tops in the bar. We ordered the fried pickles and fried deviled eggs. Both were good. The menu prices are a little high. The eggs were $9 and you got 2. The pickles were $9 too. But I do understand the price of food has gone up quite a bit. The food coming out looked good....I saw lots of burgers. They also have a great lineup for musicians in March. So if live music is your thing I would definitely check them out. Plenty of room for bands and a dance floor. read more

Not sure if I was unclear with my order but this feels like a joke ordered the spicy chicken sandwich called the Mother Clucker that is supposed to be "smothered in queso with chipotle aioli, fresh jalapeños, and topped with an onion ring" according to the menu. I ordered it to go with the jalapeños on the side and brought it home to find the chicken sandwich with a teaspoon of queso, no chipotle aioli, some pickles, and no onion ring. This was more of an Adolescent Clucker The chicken breast was fantastic but definitely needed the sauce, hopefully the next time I order this I'll get the one on the menu read more

I met a friend for lunch yesterday and we both ordered the Flounder sandwich. The Flounder was a frozen piece of fish cut in half. We each received a portion on our sandwich. It was the worst sandwich I have ever been serve, in a local restaurant . The price for the sandwich and one side was $17. I could have stayed home and had a tuna fish sandwich. read more

I only saw my waitress only long enough to take my drink and food order and give me my bill. unable to get my waitress attention I asked another to get me another diet coke and was told that "I am not your waitress" and then she walked past me. I stoped dancing 3 times to get something to drink. Being my cup was empty it didn't happen and there was no attempt by the staff to refill my drink. i sat for 15 minutes at about 10 pm I had someone on the other side of the table to stop the waitress and asked for my bill. I went to 7-11 go get somthing to drink on the way home. I took off the tip on the bill because of the lack of service that I received. I just checked my bank statement and they still charged me $5.00 for a tip. I am not going to pay a tip for bad service. After seeing mostly positive reviews, I decided to roll the dice on this place and wasn't disappointed. They must read the Yelp reviews because the crab dip wasn't soupy at all. My burger was delicious and the salad my gf ordered was huge with plenty of croutons. Our cups were never empty and our waitress was attentive and friendly. Hello, I have been going to OBT for a couple years at this point and I go every other Wednesday to do bingo and c75 boneless wings and here's my review. The food is amazing except it's kind of inconsistent and last time I went the fries were rubbery. The service is great and there's one server that I really like. I also enjoy the tavern vibe and atmosphere and the live music days are awesome, except one time the music almost made me want to rip my ears out due to how loud it was. Now, as I previously mentioned, I have been going to this place for years and I'm sad that it is dying, there is a shortage of service staff, the food is getting worse, the bingo company quit coming, and I see less people every time I come, now don't get me wrong, I LOVE this place but it is sad to see it is dying read more

"Old Beach Tavern" is an interesting place that is neither located in Old Beach Virginia, nor a Tavern, in my opinion. Taverns are usually not so bright and are more bar than restaurant. "Old Beach Tavern" is a large open/spaced restaurant with a wall of glass to give a view of a parking lot and busy Virginia Beach Blvd. The bar itself offers more of an atmosphere of "business" restaurant than "neighborhood" restaurant. My bartender "Mirren" was the highlight of my visit. "Mirren" was professional, efficient & entertaining. Off-street parking with a view of your vehicle is a plus for convenience & security. My 1st visit was a Sunday afternoon & it was pretty empty of customers. I was the only bar stool customer for most of my visit. Considering it was NFL playoffs, I was a bit surprised. Came for lunch in a Wednesday. There were a title of 5 tables in the whole place including us. Our food took forever! Even my sons chicken fingers and fries. We almost just left. Their drinks are over priced. We ordered 2 bloody Mary's and were told by the server that they were $8. We wanted to order mimosas and were told they were $8 too. However on the menu a bottle of champagne is $14... doesn't make sense. Someone needs to review their prices. Definitely do not place an order for pick up. The girl messed the order up in multiple ways. When I got there I checked to make sure everything was on there, she missed the crab soup. Overall the service and food were very good. We had a couple issues with dessert being overcooked and our waitress not being super knowledgeable but she did her best and replaced our dessert. Wow! So glad places are opening back up! Today was my last day on a job I held for 4 and a half years! My hubby took me out to have a drink and some food. We came across Old Beach and it is there 3 year Anniversary so there was live music, we have missed that. Lewis McGehee was playing and we had such a great evening. Very large place with valet parking (we skipped valet and parked in the back). The bar is very large and u-shaped. A band was playing to an older crowd which we didn't mind. A local crowd that made us feel young were dancing all night. A decent collection of tap beer and a full line of booze. We had crab dip served with garlic toast and fried shrimp tacos.
