I've been going to M Chicken for over TWO YEARS now, and at this point I'm basically an unpaid ambassador. I've picked up orders for coworkers, friends, and assorted non-believers, all in my ongoing mission to share my guilty pleasure with anyone willing to listen. Most recently, M Chicken catered my 3-year-old's birthday party because apparently my child has already developed excellent taste. His words? "Spicy chicken!" Now, the soy garlic chicken isn't really spicy-spicy, but it does have a little sneaky building heat from the red pepper. It's not going to set your soul on fire, but you may find yourself taking a couple extra sips of water like, "Okayyy, 안녕하세요 heat, I see you." The chicken itself? Crispy, juicy, flavorful, and dangerously easy to keep eating. The snow onion and soy garlic are my absolute go-to flavors. The snow onion sauce is creamy, savory, slightly sweet, and just makes the whole thing feel extra. 너무 맛있어요 -- so delicious! And please do not sleep on the coleslaw. It is probably my favorite side. Slightly pickled, crunchy, tangy, flavorful...basically the perfect cool little sidekick to all that fried chicken goodness. The rice is always on point too. Fluffy little clouds of rice perfection. No sad, sticky, forgotten rice over here. At the birthday party, we had 43 people, and not ONE person had anything bad to say about the chicken. Plenty went back for seconds, which is always the real review. People can lie with words, but they do not lie with a second plate. And somehow, even the fish is divine here. I keep telling myself I'm going to branch out and try more of the menu, but every time I walk in, the chicken starts whispering, "가지 마...come back to me." And apparently I have no self-control. 맛있어요, M Chicken. You win again. The food is the crispiest I have ever had (chicken and gizzards), the fries are good if fresh. The price is outrageous but once you taste the food you will see and taste it is worth it. The dining area is decorated nicely nothing face but cute, menus do not match prices at times but the Manager will explain this to you and she is very nice along with her children. I had fried gizzards 3 times last week and truly would enjoy more but I do not want to overload my cholesterol. Went out here b/c we needed to grab lunch real quick when we were in the area. I followed Yelp on this one. Haven't been out in this area in a long time. Yelp made it easy and I'm so glad it did. What's neat though is this place has a very (if not carbon copy) of a very popular (and also delicious) Korean chicken place in the area. The lunch special is very affordable and was the right size. We stopped by for lunch. There weren't many people waiting so we were in and out within 15 minutes. The owner was out of town and her niece was in charge. She was very nice and welcoming and she chatted with us for a bit. We ordered the spicy garlic wings, shrimp, dumplings, fries, and rice and spent about $60. Dumplings: Good, but wish they came with a sauce. Fries: fresh, crispy, and delicious!! They're battered. Garlic wings: Crispy, hot, and the sauce was yummy!! I got snow onions and they were good also. Shrimp: if you don't get a sauce there's no flavor. They were good while hot, but afterwards reheating them is a no-no.. they tasted like frozen shrimp and were soggy. But the first 10 minutes was ok. I'd definitely get the chicken, dumplings, and fries again!!! There was some sort of weird in your face smell that filled the whole restaurant. I will preface the 3 stars due to my most recent visit. When this place first opened a few years back it was always a solid 4-5 stars. Friendly and always ended up getting a freebie(french fries, mozz sticks etc). I brought the kids here as a special treat of the crunchy/crispy garlic soy glazed Korean fried chicken. Yum. The kids were willing to wait for the fresh fried, then baked? chicken. The drumsticks were huge and satisfied my kid's big appetites. It seems it has changed ownership recently as the storefront name is no longer "CM chicken", but the menu hasn't. I brought some friends to come and try it. Unfortunately, one of the whole fried chicken we got was not fresh. It smelled strange and adults and kids alike refused to eat it. Luckily the rest of the items we ordered was just fine. We didn't say anything since everything else was fine. We will go back in a little while and see if things settle back down. read more

Can't recommend this place enough. A small family was running everything. A lady with her kids taking orders and bringing out the food. They were so nice and so charming. We fell in love with the place before even getting the food. Which, we got way too much of because the portions are huge. We always try to sample a bit of everything so we had plenty to take home. We had the hot snow onion drumsticks, soy garlic tenders and red pepper gizzards. The gizzards were mostly for me as I enjoy the texture. My kid and wife are not fans lol. The spice level on the red pepper sauce was there but not overwhelming. But the chicken, oh my lord the chicken. The snow onion was an experience I've never had with chicken before. We've had Korean style fried chicken many many times but never like this. I'm not even sure how to describe the flavor. Savory with the sweetness of a good Vidalia onion and a hint of heat. Perfection. The drumsticks were super crispy and super juicy. The soy garlic tenders were also very good. Strong garlic flavor with the umami of the soy glaze. We were also recommended by the nice lady that they just started doing fried rice so we tried it as well. It also did not disappoint. Very flavorful but the kid ate most of it and they're picky. Well, this is my first time here. And it's NO LONGER CM Chicken. It's now what the sign says: K-Chicken I was greeted with a big smile and enthused "hello" But I ordered through the kiosk, I got the curry gizzards and the lemon snow onion chicken (pretty good considering my dislike for too much onion, it was green onion and lots of lemon juice) Both were good. Now would I say the flavor was better than Bonchon's... not immediately. I'd have to taste them both side by side. But the size of the wings are bigger here. The menu is short and sweet (which to me means the items should be close to perfection) And they have Japanese beer and wine selections While I sat and wait for my food, there was a K-pop performance on the tv across from me with the volume turned down. But there's jazz playing on what looks like a YouTube video of an outside patio on a fall day on the tv behind me... MY TYPE OF VIBE! So..wow! This place is pretty amazing. From the moment we walked it felt very warm and welcoming. Helena, the owner (i pressume), was so personable and accommodating. She was so sweet to our son and even let him snack on some things while we waited for our order.. since he was soooo hungry. Oh My Gosh! So good. First time here but it is so good I'm not waiting to post my review. The chicken is huge for wings, meaty,, and juicy. So crispy crunchy your first bite is A M A ZING and loud. We got the Spicy Chicken wings. Saucy spicy sauce. Sweet and spicy. They are not holding back on the sauce. You will not keep clean eating this. You will need to wash your face and hands but let me tell you. It Is Worth It!!! The fries comes in one size. HUGE. It was enough for 5 people. They are like a coated potato fried. Very crispy. Oh and I totally love the pickled radish we got with our meal. 5 stars all the way for food. First time at CM Chicken so when we looked at the menu at lunch on a Saturday we thought , wow , it seems a bit pricey. But you get a lot. We had enough for later and I loved it cold. If you like spicy you will love this. The spicy chicken was a 1 pepper hot. That was plenty hot for us. I see they make a red hot pepper chicken with 3 pepper hot. I don't think I will be trying that. I can't wait to go back and try the rest of the flavors. Great service. Very clean. Super fresh and hot food. First visit was exceptional. Helena is awesome!!!! The first question people always ask me, "Is it better than....?" I honestly cannot and will not answer that. I love this place on its own right. It's not the same and that's ok. When I think of CM Chicken, I would come to enjoy Helena's company, a beer, and The CURRY Chicken!! Hands-down the Curry chicken was mine and my daughter's favorite! I asked for a side of the Red Pepper Hot sauce to dip. I LOVE this sauce, but don't think I can hang with an entire order of chicken tossed in it. Calamari was also surprisingly tender & flavorful. I usually prefer an Italian or Chinese style calamari w/ the body & tentacles, but the way this was prepared was good too. Coleslaw - I ate the entire container! 3.5 stars I love Korean fried chicken, that's why I was excited when I found out about this place was opening in the area. CM Chicken is located next to Grammys near the Lynnhaven Mall. I ordered for a pick-up and was surprised how fast and easy to place an order. Coming in at the store, I was impressed on how clean the restaurant is. The tables were not too close to each other and it is very bright. I ordered the soy chicken and spicy chicken. When I went to the counter to pick up my order, I was told that there was no order under my name. I was surprised and insisted that I placed my order 30 minutes ago. The lady looked at the bags in front of her and asked me if I placed my order at the Lynnhaven location since they have another location in Newport News. I even showed her my confirmation email (yes she touched my phone and I was not impressed). She kept saying that there's no order under my name and I started to get irritated because I am worried that she will make me pay again. It's a good thing that one of the staff looked around the counter and found my order. I just wished the female staff really looked around for my order (or asked the other staff) instead of just declaring that they didn't have my order. As for the food, the spicy chicken and soy chicken were really good (even better than Bonchon). It was still crispy 30 minutes later (my drive home was 30 minutes long). I like how the spicy chicken was very spicy too. Although I wasn't impressed by the female staff, I was glad that I finally tried chicken. I want their other entrees on their menu. On my list for forever and I'm SO glad I finally went! Nice, clean inside and there was no line. With all the choices, it was hard to make a decision but the owner was very helpful and kind. The amount of food we received for less than $40 was insane! We did the special which got us I believe 10 wings each of spicy and curry. Both great flavors! I kept grabbing one of each, but that spicy was the real spicy. The curry was #1 one though. Though hungry, we weren't able to finish it all and happily left with leftovers. Crisp abundance of fries + plus a bucket to put the bones. I've had my eye on this place for a while now. Feeling particularly lazy, we went ahead and ordered tenders in soy garlic and curry. My inner foodie wanted the red hot pepper but my old man can't really do spicy. Surprise surprise, curry had him sweating lol. We wanted to see the difference of their regular fried chicken and their tikkudak. Both ways were good. I'll admit I had no idea what tikkudak was but I'm so glad we tried it. My first bite shocked me, it was so juicy! You may need to have some napkins ready. The soy garlic was really nice, slightly sweet but it also had a little kick to it. I can say I'm happier we did soy garlic as tikkudak versus the curry. The curry was okay, but it was spicy. I love spicy so I was happy, but for those who don't, be cautious. It was a lot of chicken, and I mean a lot. One box could feed two people. So it's safe to say we had a ton left over. Reheated for the next day, the chicken was still good. Had all of its flavors but lost the crunch, obviously. Definitely recommend eating it fresh, and calling ahead to place your order. read more

One thing to keep in mind when you plan to visit here is that the food is cooked to order. Some orders can take up to 30 minutes but the end result was delicious. During my initial visit, there was a grand opening promotion for buy one whole chicken, get one free. You are only allowed to select one flavor for the whole chicken and it does not come with any sides. Although I had planned to order wings, I thought it was a really good bargain and added some curly fries to the order. The order of fries is enough to share. I requested one flavor of curry and the other soy garlic. The soy garlic was spicier than anticipated and the curry had a good flavor profile. Radishes are provided with your chicken order to help soothe your palate if the spice level is overwhelming. I definitely had enough for leftovers and used my air fryer to reheat and the texture and flavor were just as good as day one. Now the fun part. I don't make it habit to look on the side of the box but here, there are recommendations to keep refrigerated and consume within 24 hours of purchase. My coworker has visited here and he had some intestinal challenges after eating it beyond 24 hours but those in my household were fine. I've actually been to Korea and can say that the chicken here is more saucier for flavor but that's not a bad thing. It does taste authentic and I do recommend getting out of your comfort zone and trying something on the menu you've never had. There are multiple televisions and when safe to do so, seating that supports dining in. There is no space for outdoor dining as the area is in a location with ample but shared parking. A tasty addition to the coastal VA area and a different approach to how chicken is prepared. In the future, they plan to do promotions via text message so stay tuned. read more

Korean Fried Chicken has become one of my favorite dishes over the past few years, so when I heard the hype surrounding CM Chicken, I knew I had to come check it out for myself. Helena was very sweet over the phone when I placed my order, and she even helped me decide on what to get. Two whole chickens (one soy garlic & one spicy garlic) and two orders of curly fries. Baybaaay! This chicken really does live up to the hype; so crispy and flavorful. I was going to work on this chicken two days later and loving it just as much as I did the first day when it was fresh out of the fryer. Let me start off by saying you should definitely order the chicken from here. The chicken is really good. Korean style fried chicken is really popular now so there was so much intrigue to try the garlic style spicy chicken. It is a unique blend of spicy and sweet undertone. Do not expect to go here and spend 7-10 dollars for a chicken combo. It has upscale prices. I mean a 10 wing combo was 25 dollars. Just to give you an FYI. I was really impressed with the wings. They were really good and gigantic! You will be really impressed as well. Now you're wondering why the 2 stars?! Well that's due to the service and believe me it was horrendous. I think I'm any form of food, if you have first time diners, you have to be patient and you have to answers questions. Our second order did not go great and it led to the lady at the register being very condescending to us and causing a scene. Seriously it felt like an MTV sitcom. It made the experience terrible. No matter how good your food, your customer service can be equally bad. Call in, know what you want ahead of time because they aren't going answer your question. Finally, we get a great Korean Chicken spot. We've been here twice now and the food has been nothing short of consistent and perfect. Both times, we've ordered the food temperature has been spot on, the service is always super nice. Now on to the flavors.... the Red Hot is just that...HOT and there are no lies detected about it (I can handle hot and still have to prepare myself sometimes for it). The Soy Garlic are gem, you can't go wrong with that. Add to that the consistent crunch you get with every bite of chicken, no matter the flavor. The winner here is (and now my mouth is starting to water..) is the Snow Chicken. I went there a few years ago regularly while I was in college. Amazing chicken with pickled radish. The spicy chicken was really good and the spice really hit. The restaurant was a local owned business by real Koreans and the owner was really kind. The chickens may not look much in the picture but it will get you full for even two people in person. Saw this new spot in the area and decided to give it a try. We love Korean fried chicken so I was glad to see there was a spot close by. Later on I realized that this was another chicken spot that we had tried previously in northern VA. I called on our order and they were so friendly over the phone giving suggestions on what to order. They also had a special deal of you get 2 boxes you get a box of tenders free. I ordered 2 boxes of wings soy garlic flavor and the tenders I left at original flavor. It also comes with the pickled radishes. Went to pick up my order and it was ready once I walked in, again very friendly upon pick up. We got home and dove right in. The wings were big in size and it was really crispy. The soy garlic flavor did have a hint of spice to it so the kiddos had to keep drinking water and I had to take the outside skin/flavor off for my daughter.
