I love Horchata, Charcoal chicken make Horchata. Yucca frites, fresh cooked. I eat half before I get home. Black beans are well seasoned. Charcoal chicken is nicely marinated. Always a friendly greeting when you enter by staff and the open Charcoal rotisserie in front of your face. I love the authentic drinks and recipes there's guys replicate. I truly cood eat here everyday. Super simple table chairs eating area. No fuss, comfortable for families singles and just solo. I usually just to take out.

1/4 Chicken Combo

I stopped by Charcoal Chicken about 30 mins before they closed and quickly ordered a 1/4 Chicken Combo with Fried Rice and Plantains! The aroma of the food cooking made my mouth water before the food was even served, it smelled phenomenal. Thankfully, it only took about 10 mins for my food to be ready and since I was super excited to try it, I decided to dine in. I was thoroughly impressed with the flavors of the food! The chicken was seasoned, tender and juicy and every bite was divine! The fried rice was absolutely delicious and I loved that there was chicken added to it as well. Hands down, some of the best fried rice I've ever had! The plantains were cooked perfectly and were just as great! I literally wanted to return the next day, it was just that good! Definitely stop in and try them out!!! I highly recommend it!!!

Charcoal chicken is a nice healthy alternative to fast food when you want quick and on the go. You will find them in the Walmart shopping center off of South Lynnhaven, VB. They have a wide selection of food to choose from, from like Peruvian chicken, burritos, tacos, plantains, steak, rice n beans, French fries, Philly cheesesteak and more! Basically, something for everyone! The sides are all cooked so you can pick which sides you want with your meal. They are in their grand opening and the staff done a wonderful job with moving the lines along and answering questions sufficiently. So for the food. I got the 1/4 chicken rotisserie chicken with 2 sides. It came with a cilantro sauce too that was delicious, a little spicy but that's how I like it! The chicken was tender and flavorful. The fried rice side I got with it was tasty too. Wasn't greasy or salty. The black beans also were seasoned good. I can't wait to try the Mexican grill dishes. I hope they do good and stick around for a long time:

I've been to charcoal so many times, if you're looking for a place to eat that feels like a home cooked meal this is the place. If you're in a rush this is not the place to go to, there is always a waiting period.

Yum! First time here and loved it all! Service: It's an order at the counter kind of place and the woman behind the counter was helpful and patient with us. She gave great suggestions on what to order and it was all great! Food: We ended up with the following, 1/2 chicken with pinto beans and the fried rice, and a chicken sandwich with fried plantains. All was delicious and would order it all again, and can't wait to order it all again. Also got the special punch drink and it was just as delicious too! The green sauce has a kick and the yellow sauce is also good! Ambiance: It's not overly large about 8 tables but love that they have an area to grab plates/silverware/napkins if you are eating in or even taking your food to-go and need those items. Cons: Ordered an extra yellow sauce and didn't receive it as well as one of the green sauces. Not a biggie, we will just make sure to check the bag before leaving. Will be back for more of that juicy chicken and yummy sides!

Looking for Peruvian grilled chicken and we found ourselves here. This area has a selection of Asian restaurant which I'm happy to find here in Virginia Beach. The place looks small but inside you have a good enough dining area. It's clean and well lighted. You come in and the great smell of grilled chicken permeates. There were the nice gentlemen dishing the orders. They were quick and efficient in taking our orders which they were fast to give too. So because we did take out. We were there in and out. A delight when you are in a hurry. The chicken is warm, moist and so delicious. Really what we were looking for. The black beans, the fried plantain and the fried rice was so good. We found a gem here. We will definitely coming back. Thank you for the adventure.

Once a week or more, they get blessed with my business and I in return leave smiling and happy that my favorite food is available to me and is absolutely delicious. From the shrimp bowls to the chicken, it is very tasty. They could use a bit more salt on the seasoning of the birds, and I am known for undersalting things.. so I'm no saltaholic. They need a frequent purchase card. Because consistent customers like rewards!

I had really high hopes for this Peruvian chicken spot but it fell a little short for me. The flavors weren't robust and the chicken felt wet like they dipped it in broth or something. I also have fried plantains and fried rice nothing to rave about. It came with a green and yellow sauce, the yellow one was reallly delicious!

Whole grilled chicken with amazing spices.

This is the second time I have ordered takeout at this establishment. I ordered the whole grilled chicken and sweet plantains. Their grilled chicken is absolutely amazing. It is so mouthwatering, tender and their blend of spices is special. I have never enjoyed a grilled chicken like Charcoal Chicken prepares. And their plantains are beautifully prepared as well. I have recommended this place to several friends already.

1/4 chicken, Salsa Criolla, & Yuca Fries.

Had this spot booked marked forever. I would say 3.5 stars & am rounding up. I came, I discovered, & I asked, "what's in the yellow sauce?" Their response, "We don't know. It's just made and given to us." The sauces were delicious and much needed for my chicken. It was lunch time so not sure why the chicken would be dry. I thoroughly enjoyed the salad and yucca fries. I thought price point was high for lunch, one piece of chicken, and not knowing what's in their sauce. I suggest give them a try. Maybe it's just me and it was an off day.

Roasted 1/2 CHICKEN, plantains, black beans
Gary G.

We ordered the 1/4, and 1/2 ll roasted chickens with two sides: sweet plantains and black beans. The chicken was so moist, falling off the bone with an enticing flavor. Arguably the best marinated roasted chicken in the area. The plantains were rich with sweetness. We are big fans of Latin American cuisine, and these were the best sweet plantains we've ever had. The only disappointment were the black beans which were very dry. The yellow and spicy green sauces were just OK. The food was great without the sauces. This was a nice place to hang out mid afternoon. Very friendly and scrupulously clean.

#15 - CEVICHE

I'm from California, where Pollo Loco and rotisserie chicken spots are very common, so I have been searching for a place like this since we moved here in 2022! FOOD: I ordered the half chicken, maduros, fish ceviche, alfajores, and their purple drink. The chicken is well-made and so juicy! The plate order comes with yucca, which tasted good, not dry. But their shrimp ceviche - POR DIOS - I dipped my yucca and sweet potato into the lime juice of the ceviche. It was absolutely delicious; I even ate each one of the purple onions it came with because it tasted like lime juice. I can eat that every day! SERVICE: This place is a fast-casual joint: order at the register and bring the food to you. Each time I've come, they're very helpful at explaining the menu and super attentive. LOCATION: Located in a large, old strip mall with ample parking! Inside are quite a few tables for you to bring the whole family. It was clean both times I've been! They're always tidying it up when I'm there. Will I return? OMG absolutely!

Black Beans
Chanel T.

This is my first time trying Peruvian cuisine,I got the arroz con pollo and a side of black beans and side of plantains. The chicken and rice was seasoned well and was of good portion and also came with seasoned sliced onions which I liked very much and two sauces. The beans were seasoned good but a little dry and the plantains were sweet and coked well. I will come back here again to try their other dishes

Here's the deal: Jessy's is located in a small shopping strip. While the building is a little older I did not think l it run down or in a part of town that I would consider questionable at all. I saw at least one review that noted this- could not disagree more., nothing to fear here. Plenty of parking and it's free! Once inside the restaurant is medium sized with seating for at least 15 parties and tables that can accommodative larger parties, 10+ people. There are two order stations at either side of the restaurant - one for hot food the other for ice cream and desserts. Service was friendly and attentive. You can choose to self order for takeout or be waited on. While staff wait on and bring you food and drink, pay is self pay at the food order counter. The menu is larger and has something for everyone. Proteins are optional for nearly every dish. The food here is authentic with lots of protections including some of my favorites- Al pastor and chicken tinga. Chips and salsa are scratch made and fresh- very good. We had street tacos which were very flavorful and also scratch cooked including the corn tortillas. Served with traditional hot sauces to add that little extra heat- awesome. The Al pastor was not grilled to get that char that some Al pastor dishes have but was otherwise spot on. Chicken tinga was perfect. If you are looking for authentic Mexican at reasonable prices, this is your place and absolutely worth a few minutes drive over. Hope to see you there sometime- happy eating!

We came here to celebrate a birthday, and it ended up being one of those meals where everything just hit. First off, those margaritas are no joke. Massive, flavorful, and strong in the best way. Bonus: they do $2 off specialty margs on Mondays, which is dangerous knowledge now that I have it. I went with the Coco Loco Margarita (1800 coconut tequila, coconut milk, triple sec, and sweetened flaked coconut), and WOW. It was creamy, refreshing, and honestly tasted like a tropical vacation. My friends ordered the House Marg, Peach Sangria Marg and the Spicy Pineapple & Cilantro Marg, all were just as impressive. The spicy one had a great kick without being overwhelming, and the peach option was super smooth and fruity. Before we even ordered, the complimentary chips, salsa, and that famous white sauce came out ... and let me tell you, that white sauce is to die for. I could've eaten that all night. For my dinner, I had the asada enchiladas, and I'm still thinking about them. Perfectly cooked grilled steak laid over cheesy enchiladas with verde sauce, plus rice and black beans. I loved that the steak was on top because once I got full, I could still pick at the protein (elite move). My friends got arroz con pollo, carne asada tacos, and the wildest dish on the table ... the El Molcajete. It came out sizzling in a stone bowl loaded with shrimp, beef, chicken, chorizo, cactus, and all the fixings. We all shared bites and it was unreal. We ended the night with the staff singing happy birthday and completely embarrassing my friend with a sombrero and a candle in his shot. Incredible. Definitely will be coming back, especially for that margarita deal and birthdays!

I had 3 people in front of me in line and it didn't take long at all for me to reach the register and place my order. I wasn't that hungry but wanted to try the food out, so I got a Truth flounder taco for $4.95. The food was made quickly and tasted good! Bro's Fish Tacos has about six signature sauces which looked good, but unfortunately, they all have dairy in them, so I asked for the mayo based tartar sauce instead. While all the signature sauces have dairy in them, I appreciated that they stated that fact on their menu beside where their sauces were listed. I wish I had come about an hour later in the day because, after ordering, I learned that they have a happy hour from 3 to 5:30 each day where The Truth Taco is $3.50 and other dishes are cheaper as well. Some street fries were ordered for the table, and I had fished out about 5 fries without the sauce (because I figured there was a dairy sauce and cheese on top) and the fries were really tasty as well! The atmosphere inside is very fun and bright with huge glass garage door windows letting light in and colorful paintings of animals on the walls. If you have sensitivity to noise, know that they keep the music volume pretty low, but since the restaurant is right on the boulevard and has large glass windows, you're likely going to hear some noisy cars drive by. Overall, I had a good experience and would come here again, especially on a Tuesday, Sunday or after 3pm since that's when they have the best deals (which I appreciate)!
