Charcoal Chicken is one of those places where the flavor hits before you even take the first bite. The chicken is smoky, juicy, well-seasoned, and full of that delicious charcoal-grilled flavor that makes you want to keep going back for more. The black beans are yummy and packed with flavor, although for my personal taste, I'd love them drained just a little more because they can be pretty juicy. Now the fajita veggies? Those make my bowl SING. They add the perfect bite and flavor, and the plantains are cooked to absolute perfection--sweet, caramelized, and dangerously easy to keep eating. My only downside is that this meal could definitely be a little healthier. The chowfuh/fried rice can sometimes be pretty heavy on the oil, and the plantains can be oily as well. Delicious? Absolutely. Diet food? Ehhh...we're not going to lie to ourselves. If you love GOOD, flavorful food, definitely check Charcoal Chicken out. Big shoutout to the owner for letting us sample their rotisserie chicken it was absolutely delicious and incredibly juicy. I stopped by Charcoal Chicken with some coworkers and ordered the 3 piece whole wings Thai chili combo with fries and a drink. For about $13 it was a great deal and well worth it. The wings were huge crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The Thai chili sauce was perfectly balanced and coated the wings just right, giving every bite great flavor. Not only the chicken but all the sides. Sides range from fried rice, plantains, green beans, black beans and more. They also offer Philly cheesecake, burritos, fried chicken wings, burgers and so much more. Something for everyone. When you get to the counter, you order your meal. If you are doing the rotisserie chicken, they are cutting the meat up right then and there while you pick your sides. You can see that too as it's already prepared. The place smells like and tastes like the dozens of such places in Northern Virginia and the DC suburbs. In general, I came on a Monday afternoon around 2 PM. Not very many people here, but the restaurant was very clean and the service was fast. Oddly all the staff or maybe owners seem to be Indian or maybe Pakistani. I got a quarter chicken dark meat, rice&beans and fried yuca. About $16 with medium fountain drink. Chicken was not super meaty, but it had good flavor. Looked like there were a lot of other menu options I'd like to check out. Considering a #1 meal at Chic fil la can cost nearly $14 this is a nice alternative. read more

I used to go here every week when they first opened. I have not been there in a long time. Today I ordered 1/4 chicken with 2 sides and you don't even get the whole 1/4 chicken -they cut the top off. The portions are way smaller than what they used to be. The two guys who were there when first opened were great-now no one speaks or is friendly-they just take orders and hand you a box of food. The fried rice was full of flavor, the green beans had some amazing flavor to them but the only downside and the reason for 4 stars instead of 5 was that there were a little soft instead of having a nice crunch to them. After you order and get your food there is seating in booths along the sides and a long table in the center with some bar seating at the front window. The chicken is moist and juicy and I actually do prefer the crispy charred chicken skin. The white rice has a certain flavor and the yuca is delicious. I always ask for extra yellow and green sauce. Add the Inka Golden Kola as nice beverage to go along with your meal and you are set! On to the next, I usually go to America's Best Wings but seriously the wings here are a hit! After a few visits and different orders, i've come to conclusion that I am in love with the Grilled Chicken & Shrimp sub! However, prices seem a bit steep, it's pretty worth it. Combo with fries and drink is about $19 after taxes (they offer 10% off for use of cash in person). The service could be better, the process of ordering prioritized those ordering from the immediate food bar that is operated by the workers. Someone ordering what I like to order would be quickly dismissed by the line servers and sent to the cashier, who is also prioritizing the shut down plates being given to them by the line servers & you possibly will be cut in line. Overall, id give the entire experience about an 8/10. Food is delicious, service is MID, restaurant ambiance is great tho, I enjoy eating inside.
