Our first time trying Peruvian fare, and this little place did not disappoint! It's on the main road into Manteo, in the same shopping center as a Piggly Wiggly and a Jersey Mikes. Staff was friendly and helpful, my husband had a lot of questions. We started out with the ceviche appetizer. Fresh and tangy! The flavors meshed so well. Our main entrees were the Lomo Sandwich, Jalea Mixta & Chifa Combo (Arroz Chaufa & Tallarin Saltado). Juicy, flavorful chicken! The sauces provided were blue cheese and ranch rather than a peruvian sauce but they understand some locals might not be crazy about the local sauce. The maracuya they make is very refreshing and flavorful for a hot day. They rotate between six flavors as they are not able to offer all of them at once- passion fruit, tamarind, horchata, hibiscus, two other typical ague frescas flavors that I cannot remember. This place is hard to find as the entrance is "pulled back" with a gas station and Jerry's subs more visible from the main road. Near the Piggly Wiggly. Staff is very friendly here. Ceviche: Authentic, fresh fish that was tender enough. And this wasn't too acidic as I've seen. Fried fish: The fish that came with this meal was salty and dry. I didn't make it past a few bites. It just wasn't good. Vegetables: The veggies were fresh and authentically Peruvian style. Salsa: The salsa that came at the beginning was incredible. Super fresh, savory, and garlicky. Calimari: I wish I hadn't ordered all the fried food. It was too much batter and just not that interesting. I think it was a fine version of classic fried calimari. But I wouldn't get it again. The pollo a la brasa was delicious! I got the half chicken with fried yucca and black beans plus I added white rice so I could have it with the black beans. Price was really good. I got takeout and with tip and a drink it was $26 and change. Yucca was good but I would have liked a few more pieces. The rice was really good and had a nice light garlicky taste to it like Peruvian rice is supposed to have. Service was good but I got takeout so I can't speak to a seated experience. The woman the gave me my food checked it before giving it to make to make sure it was correct which was nice to see and showed me they really cared about their customers and getting their orders right the first time. The dining room wasn't very busy, there were only 2 couples seated but I was there around 1:30 on a Wednesday so I wouldn't expect it to be busy. There were a fair number of people in and out of the restaurant getting takeout while I was there which was good to see. A few of them seemed like regulars because the person taking orders knew what they wanted without the person saying it. I liked how the dining area was separated from the register area and kitchen so the dining ambiance won't be disturbed by people getting takeout. Who'd have thought I'd be posting a review for Peruvian food from Manteo, NC instead of seafood but here goes. My family and I had just visited the aquarium on Roanoke Island. We were on the way back and saw the sign for Shaddai chicken. We love Peruvian food, and quickly looked up the reviews and saw that they were great. We decided to turn around and try it. We were glad we did! We were seated fast by a very friendly hostess. We got a whole chicken, a half chicken, sweet potato fries, plantains and guacamole. Everything was perfect. My wife said the sweet potato fries were the best she's had (and she's tried a LOT) and the serving was enough for the whole party (2 adults, 2 5 year olds). The chicken was fresh and hot and perfectly cooked. If you're ever in the area, check this place out! You will not be disappointed. It's in a nondescript plaza right on the main road. read more

Mexican-Peruvian restaurant? I figured hey, this place needs to be tried. Needs more vegetarian options, to be certain. But oh what an option the Arroz a la Cubana is! The eggs were perfectly cooked, with winsome runny yolks and a great buttery flavor. The plantains were sweet-savory, coated with a thick, caramelly melt-in-your-mouth sauce with a satisfying crunchy edge here and there. And the rice was exemplary - fluffy but a bit sticky, and absolutely delightful when infiltrated by those glorious runny yolks. This restaurant served a mix of Peruvian and Mexican dishes . You could choose from delicious Peruvian rotisserie chicken to tacos and quesadillas. I ordered the seafood fried rice dish. This was full of flavor filled yellow rice with peppers and onions chocked full of scallops, shrimp and calamari. We also shared a half chicken with yellow rice and veggies. Found Shaddai Chicken between an afternoon at Jockey's Ridge and an evening show at Lost Colony. Menu seemed appealing, and once seated our 4 teens, wife, and I chose a selection of Mahi bowls, rotisserie chickens, salads, and calamari and Plantains. We werenabsolutely thrilled with the food that appeared- everythingbwas fresh, cooked properly, and flavorful. Mahi bowl was my personal win- but everyone walked out the door happy and full. We started with the chips and salsa (so good) and our kids loved the cheese dip. The buffalo shrimp app was saucy and delicious. On a vacation filled with great meals, I officially had one of the best meals of my life at Shaddai, as did my wife. We both ordered the Peruvian mahi mahi bowls and BOOM, such flavor. We each received nearly a half pound of fresh caught mahi mahi, perfectly blackened with Peruvian seasonings, served over jasmine rice and fresh black beans and home made spicy Peruvian tomato pico lime slaw. The fish was out of this freaking world and the bowl beneath it made our mouths water, it was a ton of food but we cleaned our plates and were comfortably full for hours afterward. Best part? IT WAS ONLY $9.99. Easily the best meal(one of best I've ever eaten) and best deal I had all vacation. I washed it down with authentic and fresh pineapple water, something I hadn't had since I lived in Central America. So refreshing. The service was attentive, genuine, and quite friendly, and combined with the value and quality of food, I'd rate this as one of the best places I've ever eaten. I love Peruvian food. There was a place that closed down. It was a local place that I frequented. They had the best flavors. I never found another Peruvian restaurant that I enjoyed until I came to the Outer Banks. This place is clean. Staff are very friendly. I ordered my usual Peruvian meal which is Jalea. I haven't written a review in a few years, because most places honestly don't deserve the time or effort. This place is most certainly deserving for many reasons. I would put this restaurant on par with some of the best Latin food I've had in the United States, rivaling anything in Miami, NY/NJ or Puerto Rico. If you like places like Versailles, this blows it out of the water. Making it even more unique, is that it's essentially in a beach town where food is usually overpriced and uninspired. Even the American food they serve is outstanding. We loved everything, but the steak dishes and rotisserie chicken were our favorites. The plátanos maduros were also excellent. And who would think you could get horchata just a few miles from Nags Head? Just an amazing place. read more
