Huevos Mexicanos
Jon T.

We have been fans of Los Antojitos location in Powell's Point. It is a bit of a drive there, so we did not go a lot. We were pleased to see a new location opening in Nags Head. We stopped in for lunch at the new location recently. The menu is essentially the same. They feature street tacos. You can get lengua, carne asada, barbacoa, birria, carnitas and campechanos. I think the taco menu is their strength, but they have a nice menu of other items. This is definitely more home-style cooking than the other Mexican restaurants around. We went for lunch and I am forever ordering huevos. They offer huevos al gusto. Mi gusto was huevos rancheros but apparently that is not a gusto that is allowed. So, you can have your choice as long as it is their choice too; that is Huevos Mexicanos. That is what I had, and they were fine. On the menu, they warn you that they are "Hot!" (due to the inclusion of chiles Jalapenos), but they were not hot at all, at least not on this day. Ms T always just wants one or two ground beef tacos and orders them a-la-cart. This also was not allowed, so she had an order of three, called Jason's Tacos. This was OK because the tacos were small. The food was fine. They are a little bit inflexible, or at least the server that we had was. Nevertheless, I am giving four stars for the good offering of taco meats. You can't get lengua many places around here. If you are looking for street tacos, this is your place, locally. Do not under any circumstances go to OBX Taqueria y Panaderia. That would be a big mistake.

Tried this new OBX Mexican place for supper tonight, and a few things stand out in my memory: The staff was outstanding - my server was friendly, helpful, and genuinely wanted me to have the best experience possible. The horchata was deliciously flavored and came in a huge mug - oh so refreshing on this crazy-hot day! My enchilada was a bit above average for "Carolina-Mex" restaurants. The esquite, basically street corn in a bowl, ate like a rich chowder, with more liquid than I expected; it was satisfying and I'd get it again. I wondered about the Toreado Jalapeño and was told it was hot. "Gringo hot?" I asked. "No, more like Mexican hot." was the reply. I tried it and the description was apt - my mouth was on fire but it was a good fire, pungently flavored and just shy of pain.

Small, cozy little place tucked in a shopping center. We love our Mexican food and couldn't wait to try this new place. Delicious, home cooked food brought out hot and fresh! Beans and rice was on point. Birria was so tender! My husband said the shrimp tacos were yummy. There's a lot on the menu that you don't see at the other places down here. We will be back!!

We came just before the snowstorm. The food was very delicious. We started out with guacamole and chips. We had the chori steak and elote, which came with handmade tortillas. We also had the Carne Asada dinner, fried whole fish dinner, and carnitas dinner. All the dinners came with beans and rice. And freshly made tortillas. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was comfortable. The restaurant is rather small. We also had a tamale, which was so delicious we ordered 6 more togo. The hot sauces on the table were very good (great flavors, not a lot of heat). We will have to order some online. The green habenero was my favorite.

Piña & Horchata Agua Fresca (Large portions!)

Seems like a new establishment. We decided to go here for dinner given the low reviews of other nearby Mexican restaurants. Very clean and kind staff. The prices were very reasonable and the portion sizes very generous. The aguas frescas were delicious! I would come back to try more food items.

Driving into the OBX on Sunday evening, we wanted Mexican and found Los Antojitos Nag's Head celebrating their grand opening. Small, bright, and clean, with typical Mexican restaurant style and fare. We enjoyed the elote in a cup (esquite?). The nachos, and rice & beans were pretty standard fare. The birria tacos were tasty and the dipping concomme was very good flavor. The chicken tamal was also good flavor, and the masa was moist, not too overcooked, so yay! We didn't have enough room for dessert, but will happily return again for more menu options.

Coca Cola from Mexico. No artificial ingredients like the United States.

Yum! I ordered the Carnitas dinner and it was awesome. The pork fell apart! The guacamole was delicious. Would definitely go again.

We hired Claire's Cakes in September 2025 to make our wedding desserts (6 dozen cupcakes and 3 cheesecakes). Everything seemed to be running smoothly until a few weeks before our wedding when her communication with us began to slow. We had arranged to pay extra to meet her on the Friday (11/28) before our Saturday (11/29) wedding to pick up our desserts. We confirmed this pick up date multiple times. On Friday, 11/21 (at 8:25 pm), she emails us: "I'm able to deliver on Wednesday 11/26/25 at whatever time is most convenient for you. As we get closer to the date, I'll provide an updated delivery window. I am currently out of town for the remainder of the weekend on business and will be back on Monday." So, despite multiple confirmations that the order was to be picked up on Friday, she now has the wrong pick up date. On Saturday, 11/22, we responded: "Enjoy your weekend (even if it is on business)! We had talked about delivery on Friday, November 28th (not Wednesday, 11/26). Let us know if that Friday still works -- we are at your disposal on that Friday (11/28) to meet to pick up the cupcakes/cheesecakes at whatever time is most convenient to you!" On Monday, 11/24 (at noon) -- the Monday before our Saturday wedding -- she writes us: "I wanted to reach out regarding your event. I've just been informed that a family member I am caring for has a scheduled surgery, and I will be unavailable for at least three days following Thanksgiving. Due to this family emergency, I am unable to work or dedicate the necessary time to create these items. Unfortunately, with the short notice and circumstances, I will not be able to accommodate your desserts for Friday." We find it a little odd that, between late Friday night and by noon on Monday (the day she returned from a business trip), a family member she is taking care of would suddenly have surgery scheduled for the day before Thanksgiving (or even the week of Thanksgiving). Given that she tried to change the pick up date to the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, was out of town on business until Monday, and then, at noon Monday, used a family member to avoid providing deserts the Friday after Thanksgiving (which was the agreed-upon date), it seems the most logical thing is this .... When she made the commitment to make the desserts, she did not realize it was Thanksgiving week and that she would be making our desserts on Thanksgiving for the Friday delivery. And, when she realized the promised Friday was the day after Thanksgiving, she used an excuse that garnered the most sympathy/understanding (family member surgery). We hate to sound uncaring about her situation or that a family member needed surgery, but it just seems like a made up excuse. If it is not, our prayers to her family member. If she had at least given us some advance notice that she was taking care of a family member or had circumstances that may interfere with her ability to make the desserts for our wedding, we could have made a contingency plan. For example, our caterer could have made the deserts with a little more notice. As it is, we had to scramble -- my daughter made 3 dozen cupcakes the night before the wedding and we ordered plain Harris Teeter sheet cakes for the rest. Perhaps the professional thing for Ms. Claire to have done was to call someone she knows who could have fulfilled the order or at least made the effort to find someone to cover for her. OR... if she had said she would need to change the delivery to Wednesday because of the situation, maybe we would have been okay with that (presumably the desserts would have still been okay on Saturday?), but she did not -- she just canceled.

Sea Chef is where fresh, quality seafood, a full bar and a casual atmosphere collide. If you don't know much about this spot you may be surprised to find such high quality food served at the local fishing inlet. I went for the shrimp burger and it didn't disappoint. Large shrimp are somehow formed into a patty and served on a potato roll with a somewhat spicy sauce, fresh julienne carrots and arugula. On a good weather day it's easy to sit outside on the second story deck and watch the people, boats and tides come and go. If the weather isn't cooperating, there is seating inside too. To extend your stay, order a drink from the full bar or opt for an ice cream sandwich made by local Surfin' Spoon frozen yogurt company. The logistics are that you order at the counter and then find a table. Soft drinks are self serve and a server will bring your food to the table. Parking is plentiful. The restaurant is located on the second story of the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center. It is handicap accessible via the elevator inside the main lobby/store.

We inquired, and although it was too late for our vacation week, I found them on social media and followed along as they opened this brick and mortar restaurant. Naturally, next year when we came to OBX for vacation, we came in to Sea Chef for lunch. It was incredible! The seafood was so fresh, well seasoned, and delicious. The restaurant is cute with an outdoor seating area overlooking the inlet area. There is a bar and a handful of tables inside as well. You order at the counter and then sit with a number and they bring the food to you. This place is definitely worth checking out if you're in OBX!
