Wow. I really slept on this place over the years. I have wanted to come here for quite awhile, but never have done so when visiting OBX. This year, I put that sleeping to an end. I woke up...and had a delicious time! The reviews here tell you how great this place is, and well...believe them! I thought for sure it would be over-hyped and not live up to what people write and say, but I will admit to being wrong. First, our server, Krickett, was agreed upon (by my partner and I) to be the best server we have ever had. She was friendly, outgoing, had good recommendations, and an all-around joy. Second, the food! Wow! My partner had a salad...simple enough, right? But no, she was amazed by it. And she is a vegetarian, so she has had a lot of salads over the years. This one blew her away. I had the grilled chicken sandwich. Was it life-changing? No. But it was way better than what a grilled chicken sandwich normally is. It was tender, juicy, with just the right seasoning. I would be a criminal if I didn't mention the bruschetta...get it with the burrata...it is worth it! The crispy bread with balsamic drizzle is good enough with the diced tomato mix, but the cheese gives it a new level. And, I hope you saved room for dessert, because the key lime pie was a mouth explosion. read more

We were staying in Corolla and decided to venture out for a late lunch and I'm so glad we did. The Kill Devil Grill was a highlight of our trip. The restaurant has two distinct dining areas: the front section is first-come first-served bar seating that offers the full menu. The back section, which would be ideal for families, holds about 30 tables, mostly booths, with the hostess stand. We chose to sit at the bar and had a great experience. We started with bruschetta topped with burrata cheese. I ordered the angel hair pasta in a white garlic butter, cream sauce with marinated chicken and grilled vegetables. My husband ordered the special hamburger with Swiss cheese bacon, spinach and mayo with a side of fries. We ended with slices of the key lime pie that didn't disappoint! The food, service, staff and environment were exceptional! We overheard the Server mention that veterans receive complementary meals on Veterans Day, which speaks volumes about how this restaurant supports those who have served. This was one of the most recommended restaurants in the Outer Banks, and it definitely matched the hype. It's housed in an old train car which is really cool (there's additional seating in a building attached to the car). The bar is nicely stocked with a lot of local beers and spirits. In short order out come the wings, cheese steak egg rolls & bruschetta! With the buratta. So good. Kids cheese burger with small ice cream was delightful. Kept a 6 yr old happy. Was told very good French 75!!! Got two! Shrimp platter was delish. Big salad with chicken was very good. John was by often to check in on us. This is a must go when we are here. 3-4 times a year. When I entered, I was at first disappointed by the limited menu that was given. But then you look up at the tv and see the specials, and that is when your mouth really starts to water. The scallops and crab-stuffed fish were a special that would blow your socks off. The scallops were some of the best I have had. The bruschetta at a seafood place was also killer. I feel I may have judged the smaller menu a little too quickly. The dessert lives up to the name of the best key lime pie. The apple dessert is also up there. Just got back from visiting our family in Nags Head, OBX North Carolina, and had a spectacular experience at the Kill Devil Grill!!! Being that it's in season right now everything is very, very crowded. Reservations are not taken, so we went on the earlier side, and within 15-20 minutes we were seated! The hungry (and tired) young kids were happy about that....lol The food was very fresh: grilled local fish, salads, fish tacos, juicy burgers etc. all served with such a great beach vibe. We spent a winter staycay in Kitty Hawk. It was cold has an ice trolls feet! We decided at the last minute to get a bite to eat. I searched "best casual dining close to me" and this place was the first thing that came up, so off we go! The place was small and quaint. It was Christmas time so everyone was dressed in Christmas gear! It was packed too! I see why because the food was great and the service was even greater! We ate here for lunch. When we arrived, there was a sign on the door that said the hostess and to check in for your meal is on the side entrance. So you do have to walk around the side to tell them how many is in your party. The place does not have a waiting area so highly recommend just sending one of your party in to put in the reservation and waiting for the table to be ready. Our server was Taylor. Taylor was standing on business with one of my meals didn't have tomato, bacon jam, and she was on top of it. Awesome person. For the appetizer, we order cheesesteak egg rolls, and it had a red tomato basil dipping sauce on the side very delicious killed whole dish before our main meal came out. me, I had the steak burger very good flavor. They forgot the tomato bacon jam that was supposed to be on it. But even without it, it was such a good flavor profile. our waiter, Taylor got us an a dipping side of the tomato bacon jam so everything was fine. For our next meal, we had the fried shrimp with a side of fries and tartar sauce. Very good crisp taste on it. Good crunch Tartar sauce was absolutely delicious. Side of coleslaw came with the dish. Kill Devil Grill is one of my favorite spots to eat in the Outerbanks. This place has been here a while now and is very popular with the locals. My favorite are their Chicken Wings. The wings are smoked and grilled then tossed in their signature buffalo sauce. I definitely recommend getting the wings here. The grilled Salmon salad is also one of my favorites. This little restaurant is probably the best on the entire Outer Banks and I have been to almost all the restaurants around here. The staff is amazing and friendly. They treat you like they've known you all their life. It's a small space with what appears to be a rail car for the bar, which was cozy, although crowded. It's a nice place for a casual meal, try the wings. That said, it's good not great. On today's adventure we found this place via Yelp. It's a little off the main road so we expected it to be less touristy but appears a lot of people know about this place which is a good sign. There were quite a few people here early around 430-5. We were greeted upon entering and advised it would be about 20 minutes for a table. The food was good and the service for the food was good. The food came out quickly and was cooked correctly. We were hungry and didn't waste time taking photos on this trip. We were given a gift card here, so we tried it out. It was an hour and 45 minutes to get a table (on a Tuesday), and another hour to get the food. My son's order of kids fried shrimp came out as chicken tenders. Too hungry to wait for a correction, he just ate the tenders. The next day we still had money on the gift card, so we ordered take out. Two hour pick up time for 2 appetizers, a kids fried shrimp (because he never got it the day before), and a slice of pie. This pretty light order was still late another 15 minutes over the already ridiculous 2 hours. Also, our wings came without sauce, which it was ordered with. The white pizza was overcooked. 2 messed up orders, extremely long wait times, and just above average food. We didn't understand the hype. Definitely would not come back again. read more

Service was excellent and the food was too. At first we were disappointed that they didn't have many seafood offerings on the menu, but then came the daily specials and this is where the magic lives. IMO, this is the perfect low key beach restaurant. The food is great but what pushes it to the next level is the atmosphere especially the people working there. From the host that greeted and sat us, the servers, and the lady that sold us a T-shirt as we were leaving, we did not encounter a bad employee. It is rare to see a team at a restaurant work with this level of excellence. Johnny was the server for my table but we had others in our party that sat at a different table and I didn't catch that lady's name. They were both top notch; however, we had interactions with multiple people that were picking up finished plates and refilling drinks and answering questions. This is how a restaurant should be ran. Oh and the bourbon selection was fantastic. I had Eagle Rare but there were many other great options. If you are in the Outer Banks, go see these folks, you will not be disappointed. read more

Try the daily specials at Kill Devil Grille as they are excellent. The flounder fish sandwich is excellent, but hurry as they sell out quickly. My wife and I have tried many dishes over the last five years, and each one was fresh and tasty. The staff is awesome with friendly service. If you have the waitress from Tennessee, say Hey. She is great and very friendly. Try the deserts as they are fresh and delicious. This restaurant is clean and well decorated. It can be a little loud at times, but quiets down with everyone enjoying the perfectly cooked food. This is a place to try when you are at OBX. read more

We started with the app sampler - tasty but I think a bit overpriced for what you get. We also enjoyed the fried chicken special, the southern chicken salad - the ranch it delicious and my son loved the kid's shrimp and fries (tartar sauce was great too)! We took a strawberry shortcake to go and it was excellent as well. We will will definitely back on our next trip down - to eat again and grab a shirt.
