This was not our first visit to Trio but was the most disappointing. My friend and I ordered the same thing, the soup of the day , fish stew, and Quinoa salad with greens, tomatoes and mozzarella balls. The soup was $9 a cup and the bowl$19! Neither one was worth the money. Everything is expensive anymore when you eat out, I don't mind paying if the food is good. The soup had no signs of fish or seafood in either serving. It tasted like a spicy vegetable soup. It was good but no fish and not worth $9. The Quinoa bowl was average, tomatoes were spongy and tasteless and 3-4 pearl mozzarella balls. How is that $19? Very disappointing. I gave 1 star for our wine and our waitress Emily did an awesome job. She was prompt and took care of all the tables in the dining room. She did a fantastic job ensuring we had everything we needed. It wasn't her fault for the food. We are both locals and wanted a girl lunch, and appreciate the challenges restaurants face. Decided to try this restaurant and market for lunch today and was so pleasantly surprised. First, ambiance is a 10/10. Upon walking in, you're walking through a gourmet food market. Beautifully presented. We decided to eat outside on the patio. Despite it facing the highway, it's as cute as it can get. The service was friendly and energetic. We ordered the grilled chicken caesar salad, Caribbean shrimp salad and the Brie and prosciutto panini. All were perfectly delicious and fresh. Great place !!! Love the assortment of cheeses available to buy especially for those cheese lovers. Although I did not order food I watched all the yummy plates come out from the kitchen, as I drank from the bar. We are so upset that we did not visit Trio sooner. We had a perfect experience. As we waited for our table, we perused the market that had a wonderful variety of cheeses, wines, and all kinds of local treats and goodies. Our hostess sat us a few minutes later. Our server was outstanding - and quite frankly -so was everyone else that came to our table. The staff worked so wonderfully together. To start we ordered the maple walnut old fashioned. Delicious! We then ordered the she crab soup, whipped goat cheese with fig, and blackened rockfish. Oh my word!!! Highly recommend all three dishes. Unexpected wonderful gluten free experience!! Unexpected because we decided to go here last minute so I hadn't done any research. The market when you first walk in is so cute and has so many cool things - especially the beer/wine section. I was able to grab a few GF cans of beer which was awesome! Once we were seated I mentioned that I was GF and was able to order the GF blonde ale (YUM) and they gave me a dedicated GF menu!! This is a pretty neat market/restaurant setup. When we visited they were having an Oktoberfest theme. So all German themed dishes and we could not order from the regular menu. There's restaurants seats upstairs and on the main floor. There's a bar on the main floor. They also have outdoor seating. The service was pretty good and friendly. They had a flight of German Rieslings which were pretty good to try. The braised short ribs was very very good! If you want a lot of good food, go for the short ribs. It's serves with mashed potatoes and vegetables with a sauce. It honestly was perfectly cooked and satisfying. We had three ribs and fed two of us. We also had the small plate shrimp which came with baguettes. The baguettes were absolutely excellent! Remy from the movie Ratatouille was describing this bread! We treated my friend to a restaurant of her choice for her birthday and this place was the winner! They don't take reservations for smaller groups, it's a first come first serve basis. We arrived at 5:30pm ish for a party of 3 and we were immediately seated (Saturday in July) . All the staff were very friendly and wished my friend a Happy Birthday! (We had given her a birthday crown & sash. hehe) It was nice of them to kindly acknowledge it, which added to the comfy & welcoming dinner experience! They also willingly took a group photo of us. Some of us ordered the watermelon cooler, which was okay. I didn't find it very flavorful or as refreshing as I had anticipated. A cheese board was ordered & that was tasty. I was highly disappointed that the crab pot pie was sold out! So our server recommended the Blackened Mahi Oscar with crab meat on top. It was delicious! The mahi was cooked perfectly, moist, not dry & not soggy. The crab meat was a decent amount and the dish overall tasted scrumptious! My friend had the crab cake entree and she devoured it! We all went for dessert- the triple chocolate cake, the double chocolate goat cheese cheesecake & the mandarin orange cake. We all respectively enjoyed our choices. The cakes were moist and a decent size. Although the chocolate slice did look a bit bigger than the orange one. The mandarin orange cake was very aromatic! The smell of citrus pleasantly hits you. It wasn't overly sweet and it was refreshing! I'm not a fan of cheesecake but I had a sample of my sister's and it was really good! It's a cozy restaurant that's also a wine & cheese shop. This was our second trip to Trio and it was somehow even more incredible than our last. To start, we will begin with the bartender, Andrew, who is a gentleman and a scholar. From there, he took the time to discuss what has become my new favorite vintage and direct me to the very convenient in-store location to procure more...I call that winning. Then, the food. I was so blown away by the pasta I almost broke a sweat because I was shoveling it into my mouth at terminal velocity--the mushrooms, sauce and scallops were so perfectly done I couldn't help myself. The small plates and appetizers are fun and different, and if you love charcuterie, you can get a great charcuterie and cheese plate here. And the whipped goat cheese and fig jam is absolutely swoon-worthy. There are lots of nice entrees too, but the small plates are fun to mix and match, and when you're done, you'll feel delighted with yourself for choosing such great stuff. Oh and the store! You can buy some of the special things you've eaten ( like the fig jam) to have at home. And the wine and beer selection is amazing. Trio is amazing! We were a family of 6 celebrating our mother's birthday and had reservations at another restaurant for months. Unfortunately the day of our reservation their A/C went out and canceled our plans. We tried to find a place that could accommodate our large group last minute. We found Trio and our experience was absolutely perfect! Michelle was our server and is the absolute BEST! We each loved our salads, apps, and entrees. The wine list is extensive as they are also retail market with high end food and beverages. They were so kind in letting us bring in the birthday cake we had ordered and stored it while we ate. Then Michelle and her coworkers surprised my mom with the cake, even putting candles on and lighting them, and brought it out at the perfect moment. Recently had dinner with some friends. We were seated in the upstairs bar and high top area. No elevators so if you are not good with stairs, then request something downstairs. Service was great. Waters always refilled. Server always asked if we needed beer or wine refills. Food was delicious. I enjoyed their French Dip sandwich with their potato chip side dish($17). The meat to bread ratio was ok. Probably could have used a bit more meat. I would order it again. We also enjoyed a table full of light snacks. My favorite was their baguette with olive oil($5). Very cool spot for dinner. Went on a whim, and satisfied for the most part of the dinner. TRIO has a nice market at entrance, from snacks, home made products for consumption/use, a LARGE selection for wine and beer (lots of NC variety), and TRIO merchandise. There is an upstairs and downstairs eating area; we got to eat upstairs that looked like a lounge. My food was 3.8 / 5. I ordered the "Prosciutto Chicken" - the chicken was seasoned and breaded/fried really well and tasted great. The broccolini was seasoned and cooked well also. The head scratcher were the potatoes and prosciutto - the smashed gold potatoes wasn't a mash but more of a baked potato emptied from its skin and seared and smashed, it made for really dry, hard, and hard to eat potato. The prosciutto was very odd, felt like it was a topping just to fancy it up, but came out very chewy and random. The drink selections were good (you absolutely could pick from the hundreds of wine/beer there). Service was solid. I'd give it one more go. read more

Fun atmosphere in restaurant/market, with great wine selection (lots available by the glass) and quality food. Service was above average, and even the music was great (mellow classic rock, not live, but sometimes they have live music). Good variety in apps and small plate options, delicious seafood choices, and you can tell the folks in the kitchen cook with passion and a care for quality food. Some good gluten free options, but very sadly, no GF bread or sandwich buns. The market sells a great selection of gourmet food items, beautiful cheeses and wines, funny cocktail napkins, and even some prepared foods. read more

Ate here on Mother's Day. We arrived kind of early as we knew they would get busy shortly after opening. We were seated right away and we ordered a flight of mimosas and a dragon fruit margarita. All of the drinks we excellent. We also ordered a charcuterie board and added patea. In addition we had salmon toast and a crabcake sandwich with salad. I have to say.... It is the best crabcake I have eaten on the OBX. It was all crab and appeared to be handmade. All of the other dishes were excellent and the presentation was incredible. Our experience was really soured by the hostess, who was very young, telling us it would be a 20 to 25 minute wait. After 23 minutes we moseyed on over to the hostess table and they conveniently sent us a text that our table was ready. They walked us over to a table that had been sitting vacant the entire time that we were waiting. The server was adequate, the crab cakes were very good. I've noticed a pattern here at restaurants in the outer banks that if you get even close to eating near their closing times they rush out the door as soon as you've gotten your food. If they say they close at 9 they mean they will stop caring that you're paying their income at 9. What happened to service in a tourist driven area. I think it will be a while before we come back to OBX. read more
