Bartender was super friendly. I didn't get her name blonde curly hair. We went for a drink just to get out of the house. The drink was soooo delicious and refreshing. I wanted 5 more but then I wouldn't be able to adult if I did loved the place but definitely loud. If you're one of those folks that don't like loud places this isn't for you. If you don't mind it then stop in. We will be back to try the food next time read more

This is a cute little place with a surfer vibe. We started with their wings which were fantastic! Nicely charred with their house sauce. I was dying for a juicy hamburger and decided to order one. Here's where things took a turn. I asked for it medium rare and was told by the server that it had to be cooked to at least medium well. I ordered it anyway hoping it would be ok. It was not. Very dry and flavorless. Only ate about half because I was hungry. I'd definitely go back but order something else. read more

My family recently placed a carryout order and initially had a great experience with the first employee who answered the phone. She was friendly, helpful, and pleasant to speak with. Unfortunately, after being transferred to another employee, the experience quickly changed. The second employee was very rushed and came across as rude during the call. We felt hurried through the ordering process, and as a result, our order was entered incorrectly because our requests were not fully heard or confirmed. We were especially disappointed because we've had positive experiences here in the past and have always enjoyed the food. While the food has consistently been good, this particular customer service experience left a negative impression and has made us reconsider returning in the future. Sat right away and was greeted by friendly waitress. Restaurant has a rustic beach vibe. Lots of nautical flags hung on windows. Ordered Bonzer Jerk Chicken Tacos. Chicken had good flavor but not too spicy. I liked the thinly sliced cucumber on top. Taco shells were toasted so they held shape and didn't fall apart. Also ordered Queso Steak Tacos. Came in with a party of ten, and they handled us very well. They have a crew of hilarious and majestic looking staff who give amazing recommendations. Food was great and tasty (love the crabbie patty) and service was very quick. The restaurant itself had a bit of an odd smell, but it may have just been when we came there. The outside bathroom was also really hard to unlock. Highkey recommend tho. read more

The strawberry basil lemonade here is absolutely to die for!! However, my entree was not ideal. $20 for 6 fried shrimp and some fries and slaw is NOT worth it in my opinion. I definitely have gotten more for less elsewhere, and they were better. The outdoor seating here is nice though I will say. Our waitress was not attentive and after we had finished eating we had to wait 45 more minutes for the check, which wouldn't have been too bad had we not driven down here the same day and weren't tired from our drive wanting to go home and relax. I'd say the drinks here would be the only reason why I'd come back. read more

Love it here! They have a fun outdoor space with tables and the inside is also great! My favorite drink is the cherry limeade but all of their drinks are yummy. Definitely recommend this place for a cool spot to grab a drink. read more

Took forever. They forgot to put in our order. They kept saying sorry. But the food never came. I would not recommend.

2 people we both ordered tacos and soft drinks we waited 30 minutes for tacos we ate in 2 minutes. $15 tacos. 2 minutes. 2 people. it is also loud asf kids screaming men yelling they'll still get served before u. this place was on one of my restaurant lists to try if it's on yours go ahead and save yourself the trouble. i can only attribute the poor service to racism cuz why would that happen any other place? shameful read more

We thought we would try this cute little place since it is so close to where we are staying and has a 4 star rating. Sat down and got drinks. Waitress disappeared for quite a while. When she came back we ordered. I asked for grilled onions on my burger. She said they could only give me raw onions. So I asked for onion straws which I knew they had (and was charged an additional $2.00). My hubby's steak tacos were supposed to have onions, but came with none. A different lady who was quite nice came by to refill my water which was nearly empty. She told us to make sure we ordered dessert. Our waitress again was gone for quite a long time. When she did come back, she brought the check not asking if we wanted any dessert. Overall service was very underwhelming and food average. read more

So first, I'll start by saying we've eaten out every night this week, and this is the only place I'm bothering to review. Our server was "Panda" who was fast, friendly, and courteous. The ambiance of the place was made to look like a surf shack and was a welcomed break from the OBX standard. The food was delicious, I got Queso Steak Tacos, Fresh Fish Tacos, and fries. My family of 6, including 2 small children, all equally enjoyed their food. We all got different offerings from the menu. The family is unanimous. If I could give this OVERPRICED DIVE 0 stars, I WOULD! The food there is HORRIBLE! Their "bean" dip was mostly JUST sour cream! They only have jalapeño tartar sauce. Their cups make the beverages taste like PLASTIC! Their menu claims that their crab cakes don't have any fillers, but the crab cakes have the taste and texture of PURE FILLER! The service is RUDE and SLOW; they tried to ONLY give HALF off for a dish that was sent back, because they claimed that it was "half eaten", meanwhile, only a COUPLE of bites were eaten! The crab mac & cheese costs $25 and comes with a very small amount of crab; it is not worth the money. It also comes with the pasta and cheese unmixed, which I didn't like. I requested them to take it back and they did and took it off the bill, which was good. Also, all the drinks have a strong plastic taste, likely because of the plastic cups they come in. My family said their food was good though, so I guess just don't order what I did. read more

Place was relatively empty around 6:00 on a Saturday evening. The host, server and food runner were incredibly friendly and accommodating. We ordered from the cocktail menu and the drinks were refreshing but a tad pricey. $15 for a fruity lemonade at a beach bar seemed a little steep. The menu had plenty of options that were very appealing. Our table ordered the queso appetizer which was the best food of the evening. The crab cake was dry and the crab seemed to be artificial. The fried mahi bites in the tacos were minimally breaded and had a good flavor but seemed odd paired with lettuce and shredded cheddar. Tater tots were nice and crispy. The crab Mac and cheese was baked into a tortilla shell which was unique but at least it appeared to be true crab meat. We aren't rushing to go back anytime soon. read more

I don't often leave 5 stars but the effort that this place was exuding to be open during this "COVID TIME" was remarkable. They have outdoor only seating. The young ladies at the entrance could not of been more friendly and helpful. We ordered at the window where they also hand you your drinks. Full bar is available. When your food is ready they call your name and you go up and get it. There are no servers. That method served us just fine. Hubby had the fresh fish (Mahi) tacos. I had the Super Shack Salad. The ingredients in both entrees were FRESH !!!! My salad was delicious and so were the tacos. We also had fried green tomatoes. Freshly made - not too greasy - crust was good. Let's not forget the frozen Mango margaritas with jalapeño. Spicy !!! Perfect for a hot evening on the patio. Give them a try a the beginning of your vacation. You will come back again !! First off the service was worst than a McDonalds during rush. We could only sit outside with a bunch of noisy kids screaming and crying and running around throwing sand and dust everywhere. The service outside was absolutely awfu, we were treated like take out customers forced to tip when we had to get our own food and no one served us. Had to get up and get our own refills by standing in the order line with people that were ordering drinks just to go inside. I order the Bronzer shrimp which was $16 dollars and I only got 4 small pieces of shrimp. Ended up spending $67 dollars for just 3 people. Absolutely terrible experience and DO NOT recommend anyone to come here looking for a decent meal read more

Easily one of the best meals we had in OBX! The area is known for having lots of seafood options but restaurant after restaurant missed the mark with bland or poorly prepared meals (one local told us to just avoid seafood altogether - it's all hype). So with that in mind we came here and were so glad we did! Sydney was our server and she was so sweet and attentive! We ordered their char-grilled chicken wings in a sweet and spicy sauce. They're not truly spicy, if you can handle Thai and Indian this won't phase you, but they have a nice warmth to then. And so juicy! Fall off the bone tender. Friend green tomatoes were some of the best I've had outside of New Orleans - they were firm, with a flavorful batter that didn't fall apart. Their burger was delicious (cooked right, quality meat, fresh toppings), as was their Crabby Pattie. I couldn't help trying yet another crab cake despite my lackluster experiences and this thankfully ended up being the best one in OBX. It didn't taste like bland filler, you could actually taste the crab, and the jalapeno remoulade added a creamy kick. The Frozen Mango Margarita was also a good choice. It was surprisingly well balanced for a frozen drink, not just a sugar bomb, and you could still taste the alcohol. My pictures are awful because of the HUNGER, but the food was amazing. read more

Back for some more Bonzer Shack. It is one of our favorites while visiting OBX. We love the Gouda grit cakes and their wok seared veggies are an awesome side dish. This trip we tried the BBQ grilled tuna which mom loved. I indulged in the Bonzer shrimp which is bacon wrapped bbq shrimp served with one if the gruit cakes. YUM!!! I also tried their BBC cakes which are black beans and corn seared with a tasty lime cream sauce. I'm not a vegetarian, but I could be with options this good. read more

We had only been to Bonzer Shack one time before this visit. We thought it was OK, the burger was probably made with too lean beef, otherwise it had nice grill flavor. We headed back over two years to see what we could find. Ms T went for that burger again and she liked it fine. It had the same good grill flavor, was the same lean beef that makes it a little solid, but it certainly was larger. Not sure what happened the first time. This was definitely a half-pounder. They were not that large last time. They also do a good job on the lightly varnished beach fries. So, it was good on her side of the table. I just wished for less lean beef. I almost went with a daily special tuna steak but opted for tuna tacos instead and these were really well done. The three tacos were more than I needed. The Tuna was seasoned well and flaked apart. Obviously, they don't use sushi grade tuna for tacos so this was not served rare. I did really like it. They use a slightly spicy dressing and shredded cabbage. The tortillas were flour and were toasted a bit which gave them some character, another nice touch. If I had one improvement to suggest it would be to find some tortillas that are lighter. Three of these is a lot of bread. They are thick. I ate one, then ate the guts out of one and brought the other one home. I was happy and impressed that they served fragrant and flavorful basmati rice with the black beans. The black beans were simple and good, not overladen with cumin as we find elsewhere. We experienced disappointing and heavy-handed seasoned fish tacos and black beans with plastic pellet rice at Tortugas a week or so earlier. These were such a pleasant improvement over that, I was delighted. I am going to round up this time in recognition of the things that Bonzer did right. Thanks! read more

Stopped in to duck a storm and grab some snacks, but stayed and ate...so glad we did. Zuzu was our server and she was 100% on her game today. Buns on the burgers and sandwiches were really great, as were the toppings and sauces. Fries were some of the best anywhere. We skipped on beers because they are silly expensive ($6 and up) but they do have a great selection. The pickled pimento burger was the best thing we ate today, followed by the turkey burger. This is the first restaurant I went to in OBX and it'll be on my itinerary every time I go back! Not only is the service amazing, sweet people, warm welcome, but the atmosphere is amazing! Its really cozy and the ambiance just makes you want to go surfing and spend the whole day on the beach. It is pricey, but for the last 5 years I've been trying shrimp tacos from every restaurant that sells them, and Bonzer beats them all. Nothing crazy, just shrimp, pico de Gaio, and this killer sauce. I could've had 10 more after the two I got! If you are in the area, I highly recommend giving this place a try! read more
