1903 has become our new, old standby! It sits in the location that was, for many years, Two Roads- which we'd trusted for consistently great food at reasonable rates. NOW, the food is still great (and still reasonably priced) with an expanded menu and even more seating! We have a meal here almost every weekend we come through town. 1903 opened in the former location of Two Roads in the corner of Seagate North Shopping Center. This is another restaurant in the Sooey's chain. We have had mixed experience's at others in the chain, but we like Shipwrecks and Sand Trap well enough we decided to give this one a try. Ms T ordered the Classic Burger with their Cottage Fries. Since we are rarely in KDH when Sooey's is actually open, I wanted to try their barbecue in sandwich form. I had slaw on the side. The burger was 1/2 lb and was done to her taste. It was fine but was virtually unseasoned. We were looking for a good crust with some salt and pepper grilled in. The patty was not a pre-formed, dense hockey puck. The Cottage fries are very good. They are slices of potatoes, nicely cooked with a lot of surface area to get them done and were perfectly salted. I think Sooey's can produce better barbecue than I had. Perhaps it has to do with being there off-season. It was not stale, but it was dry. I liked the flavor but had to douse it with Texas Pete to moisten it. I suggest it is worth another try. The serving is very large and not over-priced. I took the big half of my sandwich home as Ms T did with her burger. The "southern style" slaw was not good. As far as I could tell about all it had on it was sour cream. It had no vinegar backbone, not a hint of sweetness to balance it out. The cabbage was stale and soggy. We liked that 1903 participates in AAdvantage dining so added to our mileage balance on this day. Will we go back? Probably. We judge it to be OK and on a par with its predecessor, Two Roads. They have a decent burger that could be better if seasoned and a decent barbecue that could be better. However, there are much better places to go for either one. They offer taco flights that appear to be an attempt to be authentic but they are pricey. I should bite the bullet and see if they know what they are doing with birria or carnitas. read more

If you're in the Outer Banks, this place is definitely worth a visit. The Wright Brothers aviation theme gives it a fun, unique atmosphere without feeling overdone. It has the laid-back vibe of a neighborhood dive bar, which was tucked away in the corner of a strip mall but the quality of the food was far better than we expected. Everyone in our group was genuinely happy with their meal, which is pretty rare when you're dining with a larger group including teens. The service was outstanding too--our waitress was incredibly friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. One of the best features is the food flight option. It's a fantastic idea that lets you try multiple flavors and makes the meal a lot more fun, especially if you're having trouble deciding. Great food, great service, a fun aviation theme, and a relaxed atmosphere--this is a spot we'd happily come back to the next time we're in the Outer Banks. read more

We went to the Wright Brothers Memorial before heading here for lunch, and I gotta say this happened to be the PERFECT spot for after the Memorial. It is Wright Brothers themed (hence the 1903 name). It is so cool inside, and the service is amazing! The food was delicious, and we really loved our drinks (Margarita for me- exquisite! Went in with my boys last week 30 minutes before the kitchen closed and had a great time. They made some great food and it came out fast considering it was busy and the kitchen was about to close. We came around 12 heads deep so it was a lot for the waitress but they still treated us with care. The breakfast burger was amazing and so were the truffle fries. Will definently be coming back when we are in obx again. read more

We came here for dinner around 9pm as this was one of the few places that were opened with no wait. Food here was alright, my friends were content with their food but I had ordered the fish tacos flight and it was very disappointing. It says battered fish that's fried but what it tasted like was fish that was fried hours ago and just reheated in a microwave. Overall very disappointed in my meal. read more

We were in Outer Banks in the off season, so late(r) night food can be tricky to come by... we came here because their kitchen was still open - the wings were really good and so were the cottage fries. The bartender was spot on the entire time. Now - there was a dee-jay... and it was SUPER LOUD. Beggars can't be choosers - we were hungry and they were serving food. But had other places kitchens been open - we would likely have gone elsewhere, but the food was good and the beer cold. read more

Stopped in on a Saturday evening about 6pm. We seated ourselves at one of the bar areas next to the game room as we came to participate in the music bingo that night. One of the persons from the bar area came over immediately and took our drink order. When he returned he answered some questions ant took our order. Our food came out pretty quickly and everything was hot and tasty. We had...the pork belly egg rolls, wings with honey mustard sauce, a brisket melt minus the cheese, fries, and drinks. Everything was delicious. The only thing I would have changed food wise is I wish there had been more sauce or a side of sauce on the brisket sandwich. If I had liked cheese I'm sure it would have changed the flavor. I just added some from the sides of the wings. The game room was nice with plenty of room and all of the staff were friendly. Just a side note....if you set at the bar closest to the game room be careful as the bottom does a have some rough edges as the edge appears not to have been sanded when they poured the epoxy. Overall we enjoyed our meal and atmosphere. They were quite busy by the time we left but there seemed to be plenty of space for a lot of people. read more

Got the sliders which were good, truffle fries were average, a bit greasy. Typical bar menu, good place to order a bite, get a drink. Not somewhere I would go for dinner, strictly my opinion. Our party of five went here for dinner tonight. We had okayish food, but would absolutely not go back due to our server. As soon as we sat down our waitress Aliza came to our table with an attitude. Our napkins were thrown on the table and the attitude was very evident and carried throughout our whole dinner. She sent my food order to the kitchen wrong, saying I wanted a fried chicken sandwich instead of the grilled that I asked for. I specifically asked for the pickle brined grilled chicken sandwich. When she brought out my plate the first time I simply said I didn't ask for fried chicken, I asked for grilled. She responded with "um you definitely didn't ask for grilled, it doesn't matter, don't make a big deal it's gonna get fixed anyways." And continued to be very snarky. I completely get that mistakes happen in restaurants, but again the way she handled it was very unprofessional and uncalled for. We have never been treated as such at any other establishment before. I work at a vocational school as a culinary arts teacher and my high school students have a better attitude than Aliza's. I believe if you aren't good with people you surely should not be working the FOH in a restaurant.‍ read more

never in my life have i met a bartender (male approximately 45-50) who in the first few minutes of entering the bar was more stand offish and clear that he did not want our business. This bartender hassled us over our Maryland drivers license saying they were not real and refused to scan them. We completely understand checking ID's and have no problem showing them. but this bartender was making up reasons to not serve us. once we finally got our ID's back, the bartender took one of our credit cards to start a tab, then claimed he did not have it while being rude and ignoring us. after about 10 minutes of telling him "he never gave it back" and him denying it while being rude to us, he magically pulled it out of his pocket. i feel sorry for the nice girls that work at the bar because that bartender who was a rude and clearly a creep probably ruins their night every night just like he did ours. read more

I waited 30 minutes for a Caesar salad at lunch. Food finally came but I had no silverware. Had to wait another 5 minutes for that. Salad was mediocre at best. Got the check and was overcharged and the price of a well liquor drink was way too expensive. Never going back. read more

1 STAR IS TOO MUCH! Quite literally never met a more miserable person than the male middle aged bartender. Had a group of seven come in and was extremely rude and did not want to serve us at all. Never seen a bartender less interested in making money. After he finally agreed our id's were real (15 minutes) we decided to take our business elsewhere because of his demeanor. He then proceeded to claim he did not have my credit card and refused to give it back! After ten minutes of asking for it back he magically finally "found it" and gave it back.
