I had my first sushi here when I was about 11 years old, and one bite was all it took. I've been hooked ever since, and now I bring anyone willing to vacation with me to eat here. We showed up around 3:00 on a rainy Thursday and were seated immediately, which was much appreciated. We did end up in what was probably the least comfortable booth in the restaurant. I'm sure you guys know the one... It was a tight squeeze for my husband, my daughter, and me, but I'd still take that over waiting in the rain. My husband's crab legs were exactly what he was hoping for, and my crab cake sandwich was delicious. The surprise star of the meal, though, was my daughter's grilled cheese. We somehow ended up on an unofficial "grilled cheese tour" of the Outer Banks, and Tortugas' Lie set the bar at about a 15/10. Every grilled cheese we had after that was chasing first place. The only real tragedy of the visit? My husband accidentally left the bottle of their hot sauce at our Airbnb. Now I'm weighing the cost of ordering another bottle online against the cost of replacing my husband. Jury's still out. If you've never been, put it on your OBX list. We came here a couple times while on vacation. This might be the most famous bar/restaurant in the Outer Banks. It's not very large, so it can get crowded. If you have to wait, there's a cool little bar outside in the back where you can order from theimited food/drink menu. There's also 2 sand volleyball courts where some serious (and not serious v-ball is played). Our 6th grade daughter is trying to get on her school volleyball team, so we brought her here to get some training with a local volleyball coach who happened to be here giving lessons. Our dogs, my wife and I just chilled out, drinking beer and mixed drinks while our daughter got some good work in for just $15 per hour. Win-win. read more

What a fun place. Seafood is a bit spicier than many other places but the atmosphere is the tops. I think it better for lunch than dinner and here's why. After the ambiance at the entrance with all the license plates stapled to the ceiling and friendly bartenders, you wander back through this little dive to a back bar and a sand volleyball court in which people waiting on a table just jump in and play and some, lol, one handed, due to drink in the other. It's a bit of a local hangout. For example, our waitress was a wandering gypsy that had just moved back from an 8 year stent in New Zealand. This is a really good and fun place. read more

We stopped by Tortuga's Lie near Nags Head during our Outer Banks vacation, and it was fantastic! I ordered the fish tacos, and they were some of the best fish tacos I've ever had. The mahi was incredibly fresh, perfectly blackened, and packed with flavor. The fresh slaw and creamy sauce complemented the fish perfectly without overpowering it. The yellow rice and black beans on the side were delicious and made for a complete meal. Everything tasted fresh, and the portions were generous. The atmosphere was fun and laid-back, exactly what you'd expect from a great beach restaurant. Service was friendly, attentive, and our food came out quickly. If you're in Nags Head and looking for a great food and dining experience, Tortuga's Lie is a must-visit. The mahi-mahi fish tacos alone are worth the trip! My friend and I decided to take a day trip to Nags Head. I reviewed the menu before going and I'm happy I chose this place for us to enjoy a late lunch. We walked in and were seated right away. Their dining area is small in the front but they also have a patio. Service is a little slow to come greeted us but it looked like they only had 1 waitress, Megan. She was very nice. She went over the specials which had us intrigued. I ordered the southwest salmon salad, my friend had the chili wings and a cheeseburger. The food was delicious!! That salad was soooooo good! Good food and good service. The food was reasonably priced and the place was clean. It was a bustling Saturday night but we got in ahead of the rush. I ordered the ahi sandwich and it was very good, even if it was a little over-cooked for my taste. But the best part of the meal was the chocolate pecan pie! It was so good, we got two pieces to go! I'd go again just for the pie. For being the off season, I was surprised by how crowded it was, but that's a testament of how good it was. The locals know what they're talking about when they recommend a place. Tortuga's Lie was recommended to us by one of the tour guides we met when we went to see the wild horses. This is one of few select restaurants on the OBX that are open year-round. If you frequent the area in the off-season, you'll quickly figure out that a number of places are closed during that time. Not so with Tortuga's Lie. This is one of our fave places for either lunch or dinner. In either case, be ready for a wait depending on what time of day it is. The food is worth it, though. If space is available, you can choose to sit at the bar. They have a couple TVs. We've had everything from one of the daily specials (fried flounder sandwich is one example), to the cheeseburger, to the fish tacos, and more. Their 'island fries' are yummy. They have a selection of Tortuga's Lie gear for sale, so be sure to browse if you have to wait for a table. They have plenty of parking -- look for the large lot just north of the restaurant. Came here for lunch the other day. Originally intended to come for dinner but glad we didn't. We waited about 15-20 minutes to be seated when I saw multiple tables open. No biggie just irritating. Can't imagine how that would have been at dinner time. The place is a bit divey inside but we appreciated the unique decor and fish tanks. Ordered drinks-one drink we got was extremely strong and the other tasted like it had no alcohol. The food was the redeeming factor; it was worth the wait and super good. Everyone was happy with it. Came here around 7:30 on a weekday and was told an 1 hour and 20min wait time but we opted to also put our name down for bar seats which we were told would've been a shorter wait. They have a bar around back, however with only one bartender and complete disarray with people cutting in front of everyone else trying to get their order in, we weren't able to order a drink. Thankfully, we ended up only waiting 15-20 min for bar seats to open up. I ordered the Jamaican jerk beef and really enjoyed my meal. It was a little spicy so if you're prone to spice sensitivity, this dish may not be for you. The service at the bar was 10/10 and the food came fairly quickly. we have been coming to Tortuga Lie for 20+ years and we have never been treated the way we were today. I came in to ask what the wait was and the person stared at me and then said are you going to get in line??. I didn't realize there was a line OUTSIDE. I went out side and when she came out she would not put our names on the list until all of our party was there. They were minutes out. When we did check in, the hostess was yelling at the line of people tryint to check in to close the door. Always a go-to when we are in the area. Staff is always so friendly, and service is great. The chicken was so juicy. The fries have a lot of pepper, and I asked for light pepper, but you can see what I got. Had to pay 99 cents for a small ramekin of teriyaki-wasn't happy about that, but it was so good!
