The appetizer and entrée came all at once. I first tried the dumplings, and they were delicious. They were fried and filled with chicken. The fried rice was also tasty. It came with 8 large sized shrimp, peas, carrots, and eggs. Tasted authentic--not like your typical Chinese food from the corner. You can definitely taste the freshness. This is like a take out - eat in restaurant. I opted to eat in and I ordered the shrimp hibachi with white rice. It came with miso soup. The soup wasn't hot but on the cooler side, wish it was warmer but had the same miso flavor you get every where else. The hibachi shrimp was good. The size of the shrimp was a nice size. It was deveined and cooked well. I always brace myself when it comes to hibachi or teriyaki sauces as places because sometimes it's just too salty but for me it wasn't here. It was good balance. The fried rice is one of the best I've found in the area. The shrimps are BIG. And their yum yum sauce is great. Overall the food is very tasty and well cooked. The shape, fried perfectly, creamy inside. Not a lot of places have mastered the rangoon, but Chi Chop sure has. I do wish there was a Thai chili sauce rather than the duck sauce. If there's any place I would recommend others for some really good Asian food after a Sunday Service, food before work, lunch break, family dinner-- It would be Chi Chop. One of the owners, Amy is one of the sweetest people I know & she really remembers her costumers from the back of her head. When I come in, she would ask if I want my original order which is Samurai Crispy Chicken combo with TWO Yam yam sauce. NO vegetables & miso soup as my side. I would add in Mango Calpis soda with mango popping boba from time to time. No other business remember's my exact order like Amy does! They have lunch specials that varies from $8-$13 which is so hard to beat! The atmosphere in this place is very chill. If I need to wind down before or after work or need to do some work on my iPad, I would come here. It's definitely my safe, food place to go to. They definitely upgraded the place from their last location & i'm so proud of how this business has come since 2019. They deserve all the love because their food here is amazing!!! While everything was pretty good, I was not blown away by the food. Perhaps, I've eaten too much Korean- and Tawainese-style fried chicken over the past few years. While I was not blown away by my meal, it definitely was good enough for me to visit again when I have a fried chicken craving. Although the restaurant appears to be take-out, they have about 7/8 tables for dining in. The service was great and fast. Since this was my first time at Chi Chop, I was very happy that the cashier took some time to explain the dishes and make recommendations. The gyoza are also good. I like that the steak is tender and cut into bite sized pieces. Beef at alot of places is chewy and weird, but not here. The meal is about $17 and comes with soup or soda. Was in the mood for Taiwanese popcorn chicken and after an obligatory Yelp search, I ran into Chi Chop. Reviews looked good, but a bit of a hike from here I live. Ended up making the trek and you know, it was worth it. Got the XL Ninja Chicken which is a ridiculous name but also a ridiculous size. It's the size of my shoe. Crispy, not too greasy either. The shrimp was well cooked and the miso soup was good as well. Didn't understand what was exploding in the exploding fried chicken cutlet. Halfway through, I was able to see a bit of solid cheese. It wasn't Melty and didn't have much taste. While the chicken was well cooked, it was a bit bland, but was improved when eaten with the curry rice or other dishes. The minced meat rice was ok. Once I decided on what to order, I noticed a large order being packaged for delivery plus a couple more tables being filled. It was a short wait for the XL chicken, a kid's meal and the ninja lunch combo. The samurai chicken came in a neat little package with instructions on the back. It was lightly breaded / seasoned well... the nuggets were a bit more tender. I was just enjoying the crispy, light batter, I forgot to take a photo of the seafood combo: calamari, shrimp & chicken nuggets on cute shell-shaped plate. I wanted more veggies, so I added the hibachi veggies with fried rice lunch special. The veggies were tender & the fried rice had just enough umami. Different, delicious and unique. We ordered the crispy wings, the ginormous chicken that feeds an army, the chicken with the cheese (the favorite) and the noodles (curry was sold out). The crunch and flavor was definitely there BUT because the seasoning was the same for all the chicken we got so we kinda got tired of it. I know, weird right? It kinda had a Chinese 5 spice flavor which to me, is quite powerful. Next time we will stick with the cheese chicken and pick a different flavor, like soy garlic, for the wings. I was pleasantly surprised that the miso soup was a bigger than average portion size AND it had real tofu, unlike some "fast food" Asian spots that give you the dehydrated stuff. My boyfriend ordered the ninja chicken nuggets, which was like a Taiwanese style popcorn chicken & the combo comes with several sides like hibachi veggies, seaweed salad, pineapple slices & orange slices! Judging from other photos, these may change due to season so your mileage may vary!! You could also choose a side of miso or a fountain drink! I also ordered a Mango Calpis Soda! This was a really refreshing carbonated drink with a sweet mango flavor. I'm not usually a soda drinker but I would definitely order this again! All of our food was served in less than 15 min, and while the restaurant was getting increasingly busy, the woman serving us took care of the counter and came around to check up on us to make sure everything was good! Since I moved to Virginia, I have been on a lookout on restaurants that serve Taiwanese fried chicken that is similar to Tapioca Express and Quickly's popcorn chicken. So far, I haven't seen one, until I found out about "Chi Chop" a few days ago from my coworker. Chi Chop serves deep fried & grilled protein, and hibachi. I ordered the house combination which includes the fried shrimp, chicken, and calamari. It comes with a free side of white rice or fried rice. You can also pick a dipping sauce, however I opted for the chili powder. The food was so good and tasty. The Taiwanese chili powder is not spicy, but it definitely adds flavor to my food. For drinks, I ordered the mango calpis soda. I enjoyed it so much since I never had one before. It's not sour like most mango drinks so that's definitely a plus for me. As for the service, everyone are so nice and helpful. I was kind of a mess when I was ordering since it took me a few minutes to figure out what I want. Even the owner's kids are nice as well and helped out their mom with taking my order. The wait time is less than 15 minutes so if you want to be in and out really fast. After tasting their food, I can finally say that Hampton Roads now have a legit Taiwanese fried foods. Finally a Taiwanese fried chicken place is here in VB! I had the authentic Taiwanese fried chicken in HKand this is so similar to the ones I had! I like Hot-Star better but there's no Hot-Star in VB so this will be the only place that you can get some authentic Taiwanese fried chicken. I ordered the Ninja Crispy Chicken with salt n pepper and yumyum sauce, and the Miced Meat Rice. The Ninja Crispy Chicken is so tasty, 9/10. The seasoning is a bit too sweet compare to the authentic ones but the flavor is just like the authentic ones. Dipping it with the yumyum sauce is a plus. Glad that I chose this sauce because it is not too strong so it won't take over the flavor of the chicken. (Ps: Beware there are bones in the chicken. Also, Taiwanese fried chicken tastes totally different than traditional fried chicken so don't expect it will taste like the ones you get from kfc or Popeyes.) The Miced Meat Rice is like 7/10 because the meat is too hard and dry.The authentic ones I had has more fat in the meat(pork). However, the flavor is authentic and tasty. Noticed this place just opened nearby our house. Decided to drop by late after work to give it a try! Looks very clean and modern inside. From my understanding it is Taiwanese style foods. The menu had a variety of fried food dishes and hibachi. But it looked like the fried dishes are the main attraction here. We decided to pick the Ninja Crispy Chicken XL, Exploding Chicken Cutlet, side of Fried Rice, French fries, and the Calpis Mango Soda. Besides the fried rice and French fries, I literally had no idea what the other items were or what to really expect here. We also got to select a few sauces, Taiwanese Teriyaki, Chili, and yum yum sauce. We ordered everything Togo so we were in for quite a surprise when we got home. The Ninja Crispy Chicken was inside of this Large Paper-Samurai- Sword packaging, with the chicken itself being larger than my face!! The "side" of fried rice was literally the size of a full entree. The Exploding Chicken was filled with at least two kinds of cheese. Everything literally tasted great, especially with the Sauces! The Taiwanese Teriyaki doesn't taste like any teriyaki I've had, it's very different and delicious! I put it on everything! The fried rice and fries were just like any other. Although I did like the fact that they used sticky rice instead of jasmine, but that's just my personal preference. Here's what really blew me away, that I didn't expect at all. The drink. That Calpis Mango Soda, I have no idea what they put in there or did with it. But that alone had me floored. I can't even explain it besides that it tasted so GOOD.
