The service was exceptional, which always makes for a great experience. We most recently had family visit who wanted crabs so of course we came here! My husband and I had dinner last nite. My girlfriend recommended Wickers to us because of the good seafood. It's our go to place when we visit VA Beach 1-2 times a year. Not fancy. Very clean. Good service. We ordered their delish hush puppies to start us off. They're still delish. They were greasier than last year's so we wrapped them in a napkin to remove some of it. Still delish! My husband had his usual, the crab boil-crab legs, steamed shrimp, red roasted potatoes and an ear of corn (halved). He went to work as soon as it hit the table! There was enough food for 2 people to share. I decided to try a crab cake. I ordered the crab cake dinner with green beans and red potatoes. A large helping of well seasoned green beans and roasted potatoes and 1 crab cake. (You can also order the dinner with 2 crab cakes). My sides were very good. The crab cake was decent. It wasn't as moist or seasoned as i hoped it'd be. I won't order it again. Last year, I tried the salmon which was delish. When you're in the area, you must go to Wicker's! I came in on 3/8, I was #46, I ordered 2lbs crawfish, 1dz female crab steamed, and crab balls. Only 4 out of the 12 crabs were edible, the rest was mushy and soft. Beautiful service and clean restaurant. My soft shell crab on a hamburger with a small 2x3" bowl of coleslaw was not worthy of 18.00. I sat with 4 other people so I had to pay another 4.00 gratitude, 75 cents for using a credit card, tax this tiny sandwich with coleslaw cost me 27.00. Way too pricey for the small amount I received. My friends had fried chips with real potatoes (cold as ice and not seasoned). She crab soup I tasted was tasteless. It's really not worth the money at lunch time when you can go to other restaurants and get a 10.99 special for 3 items. It is our first time and it was good. We ordered the seafood basket (crabs, shrimp, corn and a lot of potatoes) not flavorful if you are used to seafood boils, the shrimp were so good. I had been wanting to try the food so I finally did, but I will not go back. I arrived and had to be seated downstairs even though I saw 2 empty tables upstairs. As soon as I was shown to a table and was going to sit down at the table, I was asked if I would be ordering crabs. So I told her I didn't know because it was my first time there and needed to look at the menu first. She said if I was going to order crabs and be there for over an hour, I would have to sit at the bar because that table and two other tables were needed to be pulled together to seat a party of 16 scheduled to come in an hour. So I agreed to move to the bar but had no choice if I wanted to eat there. I ordered a cup of the chowder, the fried deviled crab and the fried flounder/shrimp combo plate with corn and dirty rice. The chowder was ok but had a different unique taste that I just couldn't figure out what it was. It may have been a splash of sherry. The fried deviled crab was very dry and lacked any real taste because there was no seasoning in it. The crabmeat was so dry that it was actually crumbly. The fried flounder was ok, the shrimp were fried so hard, but there wasn't any taste in either item. I sent the dirty rice back because the rice grains were undercooked. I chose coleslaw as the replacement, but it was just shredded cabbage with shredded carrots. There was no mayo, no vinegar taste, no sugar and very sour because there was nothing added to balance or give it any taste. I ate just a small piece of the fish and asked for a box to go. Because I didn't want to take the coleslaw, the waitress asked me if I wanted some hushpuppies to go. None had been offered with the fish combo. You can tell that it is a local hangout with familiar patrons because more attention is given to them about their drinks and food orders. My waitress (Brittany) was all over the place serving them passing by me. I specifically asked for just tartar sauce when I placed my food order. The food came with no sauce or condiments so I had to repeat my request for tartar sauce. A young guy brought 1 small container of tartar sauce, cocktail sauce and ketchup. I had to ask for salt and pepper because none of the food had any seasoning. The best thing I had was the arnold palmer drink. When it was almost gone down to just ice, my waitress finally noticed that and brought me another one. The entire time, she was going back and forth pass me because the locals were sitting at the bar beside me ordering tequilas and cherry sunrise drinks. My total bill was $55, but because of the lack of taste of the food, I can officially say that I tried Wickers, but I won't be back. I did find it interesting that the sign outside said crabs are cooked, but you can't place special orders. Does that mean they cook the crabs all times of the day, keep them hot until somebody orders some, or if they are already cooked and you don't know when they were cooked, they might have been sitting for hours, cold or reheated when you get them? I love hot steamed crabs, but like to get mine freshly steamed when I order. Oh well. Wickers is Wickers, just not for me. read more

She was very attentive and even took back a drink that someone at our table didn't like. Both bartenders were friendly, knowledgeable and patient with us since one person couldn't decide on which beer on tap they should get. The bartender brought us a few samples. I visited Wickers for the first time Sunday afternoon and got a dozen large crabs with heavy seasoning. Maybe 2 out of the dozen were large, the rest were medium and all the seasoning was at the bottom of the bag. However, none of that bothered me because the crabs were buttery, fresh, and delicious. I also ordered a one crab cake entree which came with 2 sides. I chose the green beans and French fries. The green beans had to be the best I've ever tasted. I mean it was just seasoned with butter and garlic but it was done well! The French fries were spot on, with a crisp exterior, but soft on the inside. My crab cake was good. I had a peppering of crab shell in the she crab soup & crab cake, but that's expected with those types of entrées. This is my second visit in two weeks. I forgot to review my first visit but this one did not fall short at all. The atmosphere downstairs was a little more nosier than upstairs but probably because of the bar area. I love the option of the outdoor seating. The hostess immediately worked out seating for our party of five. She was very pleasant as so was our waitress. Service time wasn't super fast but good came out in a decent time. We ordered different meals and shared. I am so disappointed in my to go order. We drove from Chesapeake to visit this place. I don't know if the food was bad because they were closing soon or what. Long story short I spent $109.26 on tasteless, thick, and hard food. I wanted to try the seafood macaroni. It was dry and it appeared that they made a crab cake and stuck it in the middle of the macaroni and chopped up maybe one to two shrimp. Cheese was not gooey and the overall dish was bland and dry. I also ordered the Rockefeller Oysters . Presentation was in a to go box were the toppings just glided right off the oysters. It was definitely not a Rockerfeller it was more cheese and bacon. I had to ask for lemons, like come on. Now to my husband's order. He had the Dirty Rice and added sausage. His food was in another brown takeout box that was not suitable for the meal. He said the rice was flavorful but the sausage was hard and over cooked. It wasn't what he expected either. He ordered 3 baked devil crabs that were not baked. My daughter said it looked like cat food. He also ordered She Crab soup. Looking at the take out menu it has a cup/bowl for size options. I don't know how she upsold him to a quart of soup. Lots of good options on the menu. We went for lunch on a weekday. There was only one server working the upstairs dining room. She was as busy as she could be but she never lost her smile and worked as quickly as she could.
