Visited Ocean House after a friend's recommendation for its relaxed atmosphere, food, and drinks! We sat on the rooftop patio area that had a nice view of the ocean. Family and kid friendly space with interactive games and toys. Even with a good number of people around, it was fairly quiet and relaxing. The bartender was friendly, gave good food recommendations, and the drinks were perfect for a warm, sunny day out at the oceanfront. We ordered the crab dip that came with pretzel bites, a nice twist on the typical dip. It was a favorite with everyone at the table. As well as the Animal burger, Philly cheesesteak, and crab legs. Great bucket margaritas and piña coladas. Friendly service, good food with reasonable pricing, refreshing drinks, and chill ambiance. Will definitely visit again! read more

Absolutely terrible customer service. My friend and I ordered two piña coladas. Most drinks on the menu were listed around $8-$9, but there was no visible price for the piña coladas. We ended up paying nearly $40 for two drinks after taxes and additional charges. Expensive, but we accepted it and went back to the beach. A few minutes later, our friend opened one of the cups and found a hair inside the drink. Since both drinks came from the same pitcher, we returned to politely explain the situation and request a refund. What happened next was shocking. The employee who made the drinks processed the refund, then threw the receipt at us with an attitude. Not a single apology. No concern about the hair. No attempt to make things right. When we asked to speak with a manager, the same employee said passing by "I'm the manager" and demonstrated rudeness!!! Again, no apology, no professionalism, and no customer service whatsoever. One of the other servers came up and asked the issue and then she said "if there's anything else than this, we can help you". Finding a hair in a drink is bad enough. Treating paying customers with disrespect after bringing it to your attention is even worse. To the owner: please review the refund transaction and security footage. The authorization number on the receipt, along with the date and time of the transaction, should help you identify exactly who handled this situation. Server who claims to be the manager is an Afro American light skin girl :) I can overlook a mistake. I cannot overlook arrogance, rudeness, and a complete lack of accountability. We stopped in at Ocean House for a quick meal. We ordered the Shrimp basket for appetizers and they were fantastic. I love that it is a flour based coating and spiced just right. Loved it so much that I ordered the shrimp po'boy which was amazing. The fries and po' boys were fried perfectly and delicious. The burgers are served well-done which is less than ideal but still delicious. We had a picture taken by Sader Eddine from #HollywoodPictures to commemorate our visit to Virginia Beach. He is super friendly and courteous and we loved our pictures. Our waitress, azaliia,was friendly and accommodating. We will be back! We sat outside with view of the beach. It doesn't get better. While walking around the ocean front my husband and I decided to stop in here for dinner. We sat outside since the weather was nice. We were seated quickly and the music from the rooftop area was a great addition to vibe set. I got the crab cake sandwich and my husband got the combo basket which consisted of fried fish, shrimp and a crab cake. He let me have one of his shrimp and they were seasoned perfectly. I was pleasantly surprised by the crab cake and hush puppies. The crab cake was moist and did not have a bunch of filler. The hush puppies were cooked perfectly, with corn in it and had the sweetness that I grew up on. I also got the rum runner cocktail which definitely gave vacation vibes!! I loved Ocean House so much ! I'm obsessed with the rooftop view and bar area. Staff was outgoing and friendly. I got the crab dip and steamed shrimp. The shrimp was delicious and I enjoyed every bite. The server said the shrimp are local. We ordered drinks and enjoyed the views. There was good music playing and I saw some games in the back area. One of the worst meals I've had in a long time. The only reason I give them 2 stars is because the service was decent. I should have known choosing this restaurant was a mistake when I walked in and saw buckets everywhere from the numerous water leaks. But I decided to give it a try anyway. As a table, we ordered a fried shrimp basket, a house salad, Mac and cheese, corn on the cob and hush puppies with pimento cheese. The hush puppies were actually good and went great with the pimento cheese. However, the shrimp did not taste fresh and were clearly overcooked because they were quite tough. While the salad was ok, they only had one dressing (a vinaigrette) and it tasted like pure vinegar on the salad. The Mac and cheese was ice cold and dry and the corn had a very off smell to it, almost like spoiled seafood, so we sent it back. I would NOT recommend eating here. The food is just bad. There was one person on the list in front of us as we were told it would be a 30 minute wait due to a staffing shortage. We got a drink at the bar (which appeared dirty) and decided to wait it out. The view from the restaurant was nice and definitely the best part of this experience. When we were finally seated inside (where there is no view) the waitress hurriedly took our order and the food arrived about 20 minutes later. There's nothing special here. The food was just ok. The crab legs were very small and not steamed well so they were hard to crack. The peel and eat shrimp was ok, but honestly not flavorful. We also had salads which were fine. Was skeptical after reading reviews, but was staying next door so decided on rooftop bar for drinks. Entertainer was great, was on Americas Got Talent Kids years ago, great show, ended up eating there, burger and fries were top notch, stayed to drink and watch show. The girl taking orders was working on an order, taking an order and finishing mine but was very friendly and acknowledged everyone there. The Musubi was good. The salmon poke bowl I ordered with octopus and all the sauces on the side... didn't have any octopus or sauce on the side so it was rice, edemame, nori and salmon. Extremely plain and the quality of salmon just tasted like.. water. My other bowl was the spicy tuna with everything on it and was really good and enjoyed by my buddy. I was jealous. Wowie! What a gem of a place. Popped in after a few hours roasting on the beach...they have lots of seating options from inside to outside as well as an "upper deck" patio with a long line of barstools all overlooking the ocean (in which our fabulous server Carly pointed out the playful dolphins at sea). They have an extensive signature cocktail menu, and Carly made us delicious cocktails with fresh ingredients and hand blended the frozen ones! No swirling cocktails here that have been spinning around a frozen washing machine all day. Hooray! Carly was knowledgeable about the area and the menu (my land lubber sister does not like seafood!) and she made great recommendations. We tried the rum runner punch, the lemonade, and a frozen margarita and they were all DELICIOUS. The upstairs patio had fans going creating a welcome breeze. For lunch I had the crab dip and shrimp cocktail. The crab dip was blended smooth, served warm, and the flavor was the perfect amount of crabby, and it came with a generous amount of crispy crackers to dip. The shrimp cocktail was well seasoned, chilled, and served with cocktail sauce that had the perfect amount of horseradish. I also dipped the cold shrimp in the warm crab dip which was also a great combo of flavors. My sister had the chicken sandwich which came with fries AND hush puppies. They were crunchy fries and crispy hush puppies. The chicken sandwich was also cooked perfectly. All white meat and also well seasoned. Carly, our server was awesome. Super friendly and helpful, she also made us a to go cocktail, and I was going to refill my bottle of water that I brought inside, but she swapped it out for a new one instead. Much appreciated! The tab was $120 for 3 dishes, and 5 cocktails which seems about standard for VB, if not leaning towards a bit of a deal given the extra layers of service. I was staying next door & wanted a quick bite to eat. Made my way to the Ocean House to try it out. I ordered a coconut libation to start of with. Too damn sweet for my taste. For my main course I ordered the fish & chips. The best thing on that plate were the hush puppies, quite tasty & well fried. The fish was limp, slightly battered and completely lacking any crispness from the batter. It's been the worst fish & chips I've ever had. For what I paid for, I should've just headed down to Waterman's where the food is good as well as the drinks. Oh and you'll also get charged a portion of the credit card transaction fee as well as some employee retention fee on top of the overpriced menu. Prices are high and the food is ok at best and very expensive. The service can be a little slow at times. It's almost like they have the I will get to you when I decide attitude. Really no rush to help. Not all the staff but a lot. No parking lot so if possible walk or bike. They are seasonal so no winter hours upstairs. I'm going to go ahead and give this place 3 stars but its only based on our rooftop experience. First, the entertainment was the highlight!! The DJ can definitely bring the crowd in. But the drinks will make you want to leave (the bartenders couldn't make a drink to save their lives!), so I recommend sticking to beer or straight shots. The crowd is very diverse and fun. My husband and I chose this restaurant while walking down the strip! Both the food and service was great! I got the ribs and shrimps. It was good, just needed a little more seasoning. Not enforcing social distancing at all! We stopped by to have a drink on the rooftop bar. We thought since it is open air we would feel safe hanging out there during the pandemic. However, the waitresses were not wearing masks and were talking very closely to the customers, whom they did not ask to stay 6 feet apart. I had to ask the guys who sat right next to me to slide down, and they gave me a glare but acquiesced. Also, don't order anything besides bottled beer. First off, FANTASTIC VIEW!!! When I was here there was a slight breeze and it was lovely how you can see waves crashing and seagulls flying. Couldn't ask for a better location to be eating food. Unfortunately, the food was both expensive and not up to standard. I ordered a combo which included crab fluffs, fried chicken, and french fries. The crab fluffs were very obviously frozen and I am 90% sure they were warmed using the microwave. The chicken was perhaps the most dry chicken I have ever had, and believe me, I've had some terrible chicken before. See my picture to see what I mean! The fried were solid, but then again, you can't really mess up french fries. The waitress was very friendly and everyone in my party tried our best to enjoy the food. Unfortunately, the restaurant also automatically charges a gratuity, and combined with the 2 appetizers split among 10 people, the total cost of the meal came out to $30 per person for low quality food. If you're here for the bar, I am sure you'll have a great time with the drinks and the atmosphere. Just don't order food.
