Seafood platter

I love this place....Great customer service and food is great and fresh, I definitely recommend this place I've been going here for years.

When entering the restaurant the decor is plain and simple. Seems like a local favorite in the area due to the decent combo prices and portions. I tried the 2 piece fish with jumbo shrimp and 2 sides (streamed broccoli & corn) and comes with hush puppies. Also order side of oysters, onion rings and complementary Cole slaw. And when they brought out the order its was no wonder its a local fave. Big portions on everything! Everything was tasty except the onion rings. Didn't taste much like anything. I couldn't finish everything! If you want a good deal and big portions this is the spot. I would definitely come back and try other dishes.

Rotten russet potato

This place has fallen in quality. I received tiny crabs and huge rotten russet potatoes chopped up. This is unbelievable. I used to love this place.

This place came highly recommended and I understand why. Extremely inexpensive and the food is good. The service was good as well. Nice place.

Snow crab leg boil with extra corn
Carla N.

Ocean blue is my favorite seafood whole in the wall!!! I love their fried crabs. Jimmies only please and thank you. Norfolk has crab boil places popping up everywhere but Ocean blue is local and has been here forever!!! Now getting a boil bag on your lunch break is a bit risky but sometimes you have to over indulge!! I love the snow crab leg bag with extra corn because (it's ohhh sooo Juicy!!) In mild boil special sauce. Swirl your potato in that butter sauce and you'll be drooling!!!

Cajun booklets with lobster! It fed 4 large men and my sister!

We got the Ultimate Cajun Boil with a huge lobster and sausage, it was awesome! We also got several of the fried lunch specials but the Cajun boil was the star! It's located off of Azalea Garden Rd and Krick Rd.

The fried shrimp dinner.

I came here twice on my lunch break and the first time I ordered the shrimp and fish dinner, but I didn't get any shrimp. My second time was today and in the mood for fried seafood, I was willing to give another chance. I ordered the fried shrimp dinner with 2 sides. The steamed broccoli was the best part of the meal. The shrimp were small and few (maybe 10-13 shrimp), and an abundance of French fries. I'm so disappointed again. I'll maybe try a boil or some steamed crabs since that seems to be the best thing based on the orders I've seen and heard about when I went there those times.

Let me start by saying: I walked into Stony's Dockside feeling like a stressed-out adult, and I…read morewalked out feeling like a seagull that just stole someone's french fry--victorious and oddly proud of myself. The vibe? Pure waterfront bliss. It's the kind of place where you half expect a dolphin to pop up and judge your drink choice (which it absolutely would approve of, by the way). The staff treated me like I'd been coming there every summer since 1998--even though this was my first time and I kept accidentally calling it "Stony's Dockyard" like I was boarding a ship. Now let's talk food. The crab cake.samdwich? So good I considered writing it a personal thank-you letter. The fries? Crispy enough to make me briefly question whether I should propose. The drinks? Let's just say after the second one, I was convinced I could parallel park a boat. Service was fast, friendly, and only mildly concerned when I said, "I'm ready for my transformation into a dockside legend." By the end of the meal, I was ready to move in. If they'd handed me a pillow, I'd be sleeping next to the deck like a happy barnacle. 10/10 would absolutely return, and next time I'm bringing more sunscreen, fewer responsibilities, and maybe a bib for the crab feast.

Good location, average experience!!!!!!…read more I stopped by Stony's Dockside Bar and Grill and found the experience to be just okay. The waterfront setting is nice and definitely the highlight, but the food was hit or miss. Some items were tasty, while others felt overcooked and lacked flavor. Service was friendly but a bit slow, especially during busier hours. The atmosphere is relaxed and casual, making it a decent spot to hang out, but the overall quality didn't fully match the prices. It's an alright place to visit for the view and drinks, but there's room for improvement when it comes to food consistency and service!!!

We recently went back and had an outstanding experience from start to finish. We ordered raw oysters, the Oyster Americana, French onion soup, the pimento cheese burger, and the rib & Swiss sandwich -- and every single dish was spot-on delicious. The burger especially was back to the fresh, juicy, flavorful quality I always loved. I also want to give a big shout-out to our waitress, who gave us excellent service all night. She was friendly, attentive, and made great recommendations. She helped make the meal feel relaxed and enjoyable, and we really appreciated how well she took care of us. Staff were accommodating and friendly. The restaurant has a nice ambiance fit for an enjoyable fun night of drinks and food. To drink, I tried their $5 Cranberry Crush (7/10) it was refreshing and slushy, but not strong at all really just a slushy juice and the Georgia Peach (10/10) loved the flavor and was a decently strong drink. To eat, we started with the Pork Rinds appetizer (10/10) they were definitely fresh and flavorful; I loved the sauce that came with them. I also ordered the Catfish basket (5/10) I was excited when this came to the table because it looked as though it would taste good and was a great portion size; however, it didn't meet my expectations at all. There was no flavor to the fish or batter and the Mac and cheese was very much the same way, bland. Though I am giving a lower rating, I would come back for drinks and to possibly try a different food. Feel like I must've ordered the wrong thing or the cook was having a bad night? I have no clue, but I'm open to returning in the future. My overall rate of experience : 6/10

This local favorite has maintained a loyal following since opening its doors in 1987, and after one visit it's easy to understand why. Having grown up in Norfolk, I still make the trip over from Chesapeake from time to time because some places are simply worth returning to. Our favorite bartender Lauren is always friendly, attentive, and helpful with menu suggestions if you're undecided. She also happens to make a fantastic drink, which certainly never hurts. My wife ordered the Sesame Shrimp Salad consisting of fried butterflied shrimp, organic mixed greens, fresh vegetables, mandarin oranges, crispy wontons, and their house Red Dragon dressing. The presentation alone was impressive, but the flavor balance is what truly stood out. In fact, she enjoyed it so much that I never even managed to get a taste myself, which is saying something. I decided on the Shrimp Platter and the portion size alone was enough to get my attention. The shrimp were fried to a perfect golden brown, served piping hot, and properly seasoned throughout. The crinkle-cut fries delivered that ideal contrast of crispy exterior and soft potato center, while the coleslaw brought a refreshing balance of sweetness and acidity that tied the entire plate together beautifully. No Frill continues to prove that you do not need unnecessary gimmicks when the food, service, and consistency speak for themselves. If you enjoy well-prepared comfort food served by people who genuinely care about the experience, this Norfolk institution remains well worth the visit.

The last time I set foot inside their Pleasure House Rd location was at least 10 years ago. I celebrated my birthday there as my friends were kind enough to take me out. It was a Sunday morning and I sought out a place that offered brunch. I noticed 1608 was open and decided to head over, especially since I haven't visited them in ages. When I walked in, I noticed their dining room is dimly lit - much darker than I remember. I was greeted immediately by a kind hostess and she proceeded to sit me at a nearby table and provided me with menus (one food, one alcohol). I took my time looking over the food menu, and in the meantime I ordered a pint of Center of the Universe's Bald Irishman and a bottle of Boylan's Black Cherry soda (they do not have a soda fountain). What made this visit memorable was that 1608's bartender, Hunter, was an old acquaintance from back in my restaurant days. He spotted me and came over to say hi. After my meal, I continued to catch up with him at the bar. His presence made a pleasant experience even more fantastic. I thought I was hungry, so I ordered 2 dishes - Smoked Ham Fried Rice and the Breakfast Burrito. According to Hunter, every item is made fresh in house. After biting into each, you could tell that's true. Both the fried rice and burrito were delicious and boasted lots of flavor. Although I prefer my fried rice a bit simpler (if you give me just garlic fried rice, I am SET), 1608's fried rice (veggies, garlic, soy, basmati rice, 2 runny eggs, smoked ham) had a lot going on, which made for a flavorful dish. I liked the rice and the burrito (Korean style fried chicken breast, scrambled eggs, cilantro lime, cheddar, pico de gallo) a lot. I didn't finish either because it was a lot of food (I really thought I was hungry, haha). But these leftovers turned into a fantastic dinner later on. 1608 looked clean and organized, although I thought it was a little too dark inside, at least for brunch service. That's not a dealbreaker since everything from the food to the service was as excellent as I remember. I hope to return soon with my mom. Regardless, I'll find my way back eventually. Thank you, 1608 Crafthouse! And great seeing you again, Hunter! JV
