My lunch experience this weekend at Chi-Chop was "pretty good." First, I absolutely adore how they have transformed their space for COVID-19. It's now a take out window so you don't go inside to order. I don't love being in indoor spaces, so this was perfect. They do have one two-top table outside so we choose to eat there during our visit. We tried the ninja chicken nuggets combo and the house combination (shrimp, chicken, and calamari.) For sides we got curry rice and the minced meat rice. My ninja nuggets also came with a side of soup and veggies. We both loved the ninja nuggets. Taiwanese fried chicken is their thing, so I guess it makes sense that this was by far the best part of our meal. The fried shrimp was okay, and the calamari was pretty good. We both agreed that we would just stick to the fried chicken next visit. Both styles of rice were great! I preferred the curry rice, but wouldn't hesitate to get the minced meat rice again. My vegetables were underwhelming. I'm guessing they were not cooked to order and had been sitting in the sauce for awhile. No real texture and the vegetables all tasted the same since they absorbed so much of the sauce. Maybe this is how all fast casual hibachi is though. They weren't for me. The miso soup was good and I really liked the orange slices they included. I got a thai tea boba as my drink and won't be getting boba from here again. The pearls were old and were falling apart in the cup. I've been making my own boba at home during the pandemic so I recognize that it is a labor of love - making boba properly is way more time consuming than you would expect. I tried to drink it, but I just couldn't with the texture of the boba. I ended up using a skinny straw to drink as much of the tea as I could and tossed out the pearls. So yeah, it was good enough where I'm sure I'll return if I'm in the area. But not so good that I'll go too far out of my way to get it. Maybe I just came on an off day, but I will avoid the boba and probably the veggies next visit. Stick to the chicken and have a better overall experience. read more

In the next takeout episode of the Coronavirus chronicles, we took a trip to Chi Chop for the 3rd or 4th time and boy they did not disappoint us in the midst of this crisis. Impressively splendid service all around. They're lunch combos are appropriate with the amount of food matching the prices for them. They have a chicken hibachi special for only $6.95! Plus it comes with rice, vegetables and miso soup. The makeshift takeout wooden box they created on the door is absolute genius and wish all restaurants had this two way takeout window. So let me tell you about the food: Fried Calamari Combo for lunch is served with vegetables , miso soup and white or fried rice for only $8 - great size calamari compliments the miso soup pretty well in my opinion. I also got the sweet potato fries and Takoyaki (not pictured) which are my favorite sides I get almost every time I come here. I love that I don't have to go to some fancy restaurant for some decent sweet potato fries. I can just hop on over to Chi chop. They don't need over the top seasonings. With their special yum yum sauce, I dip these sweet potato fries like there's no tomorrow. 4 Takoyaki is about $4 here so same anywhere else I would say. My fam rates their Hibachi Chicken and Ninja Crispy Chicken 9/10 and 10/10. The workers/owners are so nice, they even gave me a complimentary grapefruit green tea on the house! Quick take-out order on my travels north. Because of COVID, the doors were completely blocked off and all service was completed through a series of pass through windows. One might think it odd. I found it rather innovative! I ordered a shrimp hibachi with fried rice and a miso soup for myself and a steak and shrimp hibachi with fried rice and a drink for my Dad. Everything was cooked fresh to order and served piping hot. GREAT since we were travelling and eating on the go! The portions were quite ample and we both had leftovers for day two of travel! Chi Chop will definitely be on my go-to list for a hot "healthy" meal since we travel through this area every couple of months. read more

UPDATE ** This is now my second visit and actually getting a full meal. I came here around 1 on a Saturday for lunch and the place was not very busy; probably only two other occupied tables. I got the combo #8 which comes with fried chicken pieces, calamari and fried shrimp- I chose fried rice as my side. Everything on my plate was absolutely delicious. The batter was light and fried to perfection. All my proteins were cooked well and still juicy. The lady who took my order also provided me some Taiwanese chili powder and it paired well with my meal. The serving was very generous and I was very satisfied after my meal. I got the mango calypso drink which was really refreshing and tasty. However, I paid about $16 for my lunch which was a little too expensive for me but the food was enjoyable. They serve the food on Styrofoam plates and bowls so it feels a bit cheap but gets the job done. Food came out quickly and the service was friendly. I am not entirely sure what makes this food Taiwanese but I did enjoy it. read more

Wow! I've been wanting to check this place out and so glad I finally did. What caught my attention was their infamous XL Ninja Crispy Chicken and Calpis drinks. Family owned franchise and I just adored how the 2 little boys help out their parents at their restaurant. When not helping customers they were happily doodling in their notebooks versus being face down in some type of electronic gadget. I was super impressed by how they both would stand up as soon as a customer came in as they were ready to help. They each made my son and I's Calpis drinks - his the mango and mine the Passion Fruit (mine tasted just a tad bit better). After we took our first sip we both agreed it was the best tasting soda ever. Ever! We both said we shoulda ordered another one to go! Yes, it's that good sooooo GET ONE!!! He opted for the A8 Combo with fried rice and I chose the Lunch promo which is the Hibachi Chicken with soup and rice for $6.99. We also shared an order of gyoza. Everything tasted great and fresh except I felt the fried rice was a little bland, coulda used more seasoning. My son was tickled to find shrimp chips at the bottom of his "happy meal looking lunch box" as he called it. Very clean fast food restaurant with tons of parking and even though in a decent location, it's kind of hidden but it's there! Definitely will come back and I think you should, too! Chi Chop! This place is known for its Taiwanese fried chicken! It is located in the Fairfield Shopping in the Providence area. It's close to Rita's and TJ Maxx, that area. So, we first saw Chi Chop in the food court of Ala Moana Center (mall) in Honolulu a couple months ago. Curious but didn't try it. A month later, here it pops up in VB! We came on a Wednesday night, not crowded at all. There are about 8-10 tables, not a big spot. You go up to the counter, order, pay, and in about 10ish minutes, your food comes! What did we have? I had the Steak Hibachi combo and it came with chopped up, medium-rare, almost "medium" cooked steak, veggies, and upgraded my white rice to curry rice for $1.50 (curry served on the side), and the combo comes with Miso Soup. Meat was tender and very juicy but lacked seasoning. The Yum Yum sauce definitely added a good amount of flavor though. The curry sauce was good, wish it was a bit thicker, but it had good flavor. Hubby chose the "House Combination," which comes with fried shrimp, calamari, and chicken. Very delicious, all 3. It also came with rice. The items they serve here are: Ninja Crispy Chicken Fried Chicken Wings House Combo (chicken, shrimp, calamari) Exploding chicken *Cheese stuffed chicken cutlet Fried Calamari Fried Shrimp Ninja Chicken Nuggets You can get most of these "single" or as combos". Prices vary. From the Hibachi section: Chicken Steak Shrimp Combo meats (Just like any hibachi restaurant, but here you get it minus the show.) They also have many options for appetizers and drinks. Will try these next time. Price wise, not the cheapest- tonight's dinner, with just water, was close to $28. A bit steeper than I expected it to be, for super fast casual dining, but altogether I guess it was a good amount of food, I'd say satisfying meals, especially because we shared and ended up with "surf & turf" type dinners. Ok so! Do you like fried chicken as big as your head? Sure you do! I stopped by here today having noticed they were only open a week and I was not disappointed. The staff is really nice and accommodating. I placed a to go order for a bunch of items all of it traveled well and tasted great. The miso is wonderful and I loved the flavor. My steak and shrimp dish was cooked perfectly and had amazing flavor. The yum Yum sauce and red pepper sauce was great to spice it up with. The lime black tea was so good I had a 2nd one. If your used to eating hibachi but don't want all the fan fare of the dinner and a show of most places this is your stop to flavor down ladies and gents. I came here after my mom suggested we try it out for lunch. We ordered ahead of time to pick up our order. We tried the calamari and samurai chicken entrees which came with veggies, orange slices, seaweed salad, and our orders of minced meat rice and curry rice. The food was tasty and warm, and fried pretty well. I don't know how often I'd eat here, but it made for a nice lunch with my mom and if she likes it enough, I'll be bringing her back and won't mind more Taiwanese fried chicken! I also really enjoyed the flavor to the veggies, the meat on top of my rice was tasty too! If you come by, be sure to try out one of the sodas! We ordered the mango and the passion fruit and both were tasty. I have no idea how much sugar these things had but who cares, it's cute looking soda and it has real fruit floating around for #health. We've heard about this spot from friends and who doesn't want to ever try a new Fried Chicken! First impressions, clean establishment, modern decor... and I could tell this is a family owned business with the 2 young boys (10 & 11) handling the drink station. Quite honestly, I was sooo impressed with the brothers working closely together, no fighting and with a system down getting all the drink orders - they were hyper aware of the environment , heard my drink order and were 2 steps ahead ("another honeydew green tea" one of the boys said). With how kids are so absorbed on tablets and games (my own kid included) I appreciate seeing very young kids working hard and working together. On to the food, how could anyone deny an 8x14 size fried chicken in a super cool sword box? And the taste was delicious. I was a little worried from reading other reviews here, but was pleasantly surprised. I tasted the five spice on there and it was plenty flavorful. We each got Hibachi, mine chicken and husband steak which was good nothing to rave about, but good. I had spring rolls that were ok, they were just veggie. I like my [spring roll, egg roll, lumpia] with more meat and umph to them. Miso soup that came with the meal was really good in my opinion and I loved my Honeydew Green Tea. I ordered the crispy wings with the minced meat rice. Unfortunately, I read the menu wrong because I thought the wings came w a side of rice, veggies, and soup or soda. The sweet lady at the front explained to me that only A1-A5 had the combo option. I was lightweight heartbroken lmao Anyway, she asked me if I still wanted the rice since it'll be an extra charge. I said why not cause I did wanted to try it. Along w/ the wings and rice, I also ordered the mango soda which was GOOOODT AF btw! Waited for about 10 min and she brought my order out to me. We came to eat here because the pictures from the other yelpers were way cute. The restaurant is nice and clean and you're welcomed immediately upon walking in. The pricing is pretty fair for some items, others I thought could have been a buck or two cheaper. The main items they had were fried chicken; I ordered the ninja chicken and my fiance ordered the exploding chicken. We started with gyoza. It was yummy, it didn't give that frozen taste. However, it had a slight burn taste like they don't clean their grill (also, in my photo you can see that they aren't so much burn marks, but residue from other food cooked on it.) We had an order of curry rice, and it was alright. It could of been just a tad bit thicker as well as flavorful, they put a little too much water when stewing it. Good amount of vegetables though. My fiance's exploding chicken wasn't good. It was stuffed with processed cheeses and the chicken was rubbery. The coating had no flavor, it was like a basic tempura. Regardless of the rest of the meal being subpar, I really enjoyed my ninja chicken. The packaging was adorable, and I like the way it allowed you to comfortably hold the food to eat. It reminds me a lot of Asia. The chicken had that nice Asian taste to it, cooked in peanut oil and spiced right. It was huge! And it had a good crunch. I dropped some sriracha onto it for spice. I ate half and was able to fold the holder to save the rest for later. We decided we wouldn't really come back after this. This place is definitely picture worthy, and maybe the ninja chicken would be awesome once in a while, but as for everything else on the menu I would prefer other restaurants. **Edit: be a little careful with the ninja chicken. So uh wow. This place has reallly good fried chicken. I got the Ninja Crispy Chicken (XL) with a miso soup and curry rice and my girlfriend got the Fried Chicken Wings. The Crispy Chicken was huuuge with tasty breading. With the curry rice (delicious btw), it was definitely filling. My girlfriend's Fried Chicken Wings were, in my opinion, even better than the Crispy Chicken. Imagine taking the breading from KFC's Crispy Chicken Wings, Pollard's, and Popeye's and tripling the crispiness while adding Asian Seasoning. It was just superb. I have been by Chi Chop twice since they opened. It's really good! It's a little more expensive than fast food Chinese food, but much cheaper than hibachi you'd get at a full service restaurant. The menu is a little big, but I think the dinner combos are the way to go. They run you about $10, depending on the protein you choose, and come with a small side of seaweed salad, pickled radish, hibachi veggies, rice, fruit slices, big bowl of miso soup, and your meat. There's a ton of dipping sauces like yum yum and teriyaki. I find the hibachi vegetables the best, they're best eaten at the restaurant. My first time there I tried everything in my combo, but liked the veggies best, I ate them straight away! The sauce was better to dip my chicken in than the other dipping sauces. Everything was cooked or prepared just right. Both of my visits had consistent quality. They have fountain drinks and some fun drinks you can get. There are some the clapis ones in a few flavors, these have yogurt mixed in, but come in 4-6 flavors. The teas are definitely my fav, no dairy and they are HUGE for $3.50 in grapefruit green tea or lime black tea. They're sweetened with honey, so if you don't want sweet, ask for less. The staff is really nice and they keep the front very clean. I saw the tables getting wiped down and straightened as soon as diners left. Chi Chop is a new go to place for me! read more

Nice and clean little joint that just opened. If your expecting large portion and heavy oil, this ain't your place to eat. I order the samurai chicken with curry rice. They gave me a bowl of miso soup for free. Their lunch entrees is 7 days a week, not just weekdays. They haven't got any BOBA Tea yet, but they are expecting to add it on the menu if your wondering. This was my first time at Chi Chop and they did not disappoint. I'd been hearing about them for a few months and decided to give them a try. I ordered shrimp and chicken combination with sweet potato fries ($1 upcharge) I ordered in front of the store as you cannot go in they have a window you pay and pick up your food through. My food was ready in less than 15 mins. It's was hot, crunchy, I got the teriyaki and house made hot/chili sauce. It was so much food I ate in three times! The customer service was very friendly (for our brief interaction). I'm just sorry I didn't get pictures I was too hungry the day I ordered! I will be returning though :) read more

Chi Chop seems to be a family owned business and as far as I can tell, the only place in the area that serves this HUGE piece of fried chicken that is similar to Taiwanese fried chicken cutlet. Order chicken and you will not be disappointed. The samurai is HUGE and served piping hot. It easily can feed three people. We also ordered the hibachi chicken and chicken fried rice and they were good too but I am still all about the samurai chicken. Portions are decent for the price, we did end up with leftovers. They have great pick up service with minimal contact between the restaurant and customers. Their lunch combos are good portion sizes and mine lasted me about 1.5 meals haha. The location is in a strip mall and the outside may not look the best, but don't let that turn you away. The size of the restaurant isn't too big, but it wasn't busy when we came so we didn't have to worry about waiting for table. The menu was above the cash register where you order so it was easy to decide on food. We ordered the crab rangoon, ninja chicken, and combo with chicken/calamari/fried shrimp. My favorite was definitely the chicken. The instructions how how to fold the box and cut off a piece were cool and we were able to easily cut off a piece. My mission was to tackle the ninja cutlet and I completed that tasty mission with flying colors. If you haven't had Taiwanese style fried chicken, Chi Chop is the perfect place for your first exposure. There is an inherent sweetness that makes every bite more addictive than the last. If you aren't hungry I would shy away from the ninja cutlet since it is fairly large. It also doesn't come with any sides, but you can get that same delicious crispy Taiwanese flavor if you go with a lunch combo or one of the other fried options. They're more than fried chicken here though, the Hibachi items are also very flavorful and the lunch combos are the perfect portion size. If you find yourself in the mood for some delicious fried chicken or some food straight up the hibachi, I would recommend stopping by Chi Chop and trying out they're assortment of fantastic Taiwanese Style food. read more
