Boba runs don't get more reliable than this. Gong Cha Virginia Beach nails the basics: consistent drinks, smooth ordering, and pearls that are always chewy with just the right bite. I went for the classic milk tea with boba -- creamy, balanced, and refreshing without being cloyingly sweet. What stood out here is the setup: the clean, organized counter and the option to order through the self-service kiosk makes the whole process seamless. Even on a busy afternoon, the line moved quickly and my drink was ready in minutes. The staff kept things moving while still being friendly, and the space itself feels bright and uncluttered, a nice break from some of the more chaotic tea shops around. At just over $10, it's pricier than your corner boba spot, but Gong Cha delivers on consistency and quality -- plus I lucked out with a surprise freebie today (always a mood booster). Whether you're a seasoned boba fan or just need a dependable milk tea fix, this location hits the mark. Solid drinks, efficient service, and no stress. That's worth five stars. read more

I placed a mobile order for one milk tea and came in to pick it up. The store was empty, and three employees were behind the counter. The door has a bell, so they should have known a customer walked in, but no one greeted me or acknowledged me. They seemed to be looking at their phones or watching something. I called out a few times at the pick-up area, but no one responded until I walked to the front and faced them directly. This showed a lack of professionalism and customer service. I hope the store takes this seriously and improves the staff's work attitude. read more

We haven't been here in almost 6 years and it seems that they recently changed ownership. The usual drinks that we normally get was the Dirty Brown Sugar Milk with Boba. Now it tastes noticeably different. Instead of the rich flavor, it now tastes incredibly diluted and watered down. The boba is not as fresh and bouncy as it used to be. We tried to ask multiple times to see if we had the correct drink and I guess the owner said it's the right drink and recipe but the name was changed. Which I find extremely concerning and doubtful. Unfortunately will not be returning. read more

It's day three of the 2025 snow-pacalypse and we just had to get out of the house. Thankfully Gong Cha was open! It's been a while, so I was pleasantly surprised to see they renovated a little bit. It looks like there is more seating for groups and they have new touch screens for ordering. One down side to having a self serve option, the people behind the counter acted like they couldn't be bothered to stop their conversation to answer my question. They just did not give friendly vibes lol I ordered the dirty brown sugar milk tea, and unlike most boba shops, this does not come with boba - you have to add it bringing the total for a large close to $8. It was fine, very faint tea taste and not very creamy like a milk tea should be. I also ordered a mango yogurt with star peach jellies. This was pretty sweet but a good, non caffeinated option for my daughter. Overall, I think their drinks are decent but not somewhere I frequent. It cost $27 for two large drinks (one topping each) and one medium drink (one topping) read more

Since my daughter and I were in the area, we decided to stop in and grab something to drink. The store was very clean and I loved the cute paintings on the walls. Thankfully, there was no wait so my daughter ordered the Dirty Brown Sugar Milk Tea and I ordered the Passionfruit Sparkling Tea. I asked if the boba pearls would be good in the Passionate drink and the lady stated that it probably wouldn't be so I really appreciated her honesty. The Dirty Brown Sugar Milk Tea was probably the best I've ever tasted in the area. It was absolutely amazing and even though we didn't modify the sugar level, it wasn't overly sweet at all. The Passionfruit Sparkling Tea was pretty good. Their Sparkling Series consisted of a variety of other drink flavors as well. The passionfruit flavor was strong, which I liked but it was very sweet. I'm not sure if I would order it again but if I did, I would request less sugar. Overall, I would definitely return for the Dirty Brown Sugar Milk Tea and would definitely try their other Milk Teas and drinks as well. read more

Absolutely love Gong Cha. I've always been meaning to write my Yelp review but it always slips my mind. I always go to my go to which is a Caramel Brûlée Black Tea with 50% sugar and 30% ice and to me that is DELICIOUS. The service is average to good, as it's a very popular store. There are 2 ways to order at a register or at the kiosk, but most likely you will use kiosk instead of talking to a store employee. The best thing about using the kiosk is that you can customize your drink and look at all the options and pricing. It's very convenient; however, it can take a while to order as there is only 1 kiosk while the other employees make the drinks. The music here is K-POP oriented. I was not a huge K-POP fan but my husband is. He plays it in the car everywhere we go, so I've started to enjoy listening to K-POP, so it's nice to listen to some songs I know while waiting for the order. The downside (jk) is my husband finds more artists and his K-POP music library expands. The store has a cafe type feel and contains board games so it's a good place to hang out with friends. I highly recommend trying Gong Cha, also this past Christmas holiday they had Gingerbread styled drink cups! They were super adorable ! read more

DRINKS I ordered the brown sugar oolong tea with 30% sugar and pearls. It was a great drink overall, but not worth the price tag it was set. It was a whole dollar or two above what I would get ordering up in the DMV area, which was surprising. SERVICE We ordered via ToastTab, and went up to the pickup window to get our drinks. We did not interact with the staff much otherwise. You do order by Kiosk if ordering in-store. AMBIANCE Inside the store has a good number of tables to sit and drink with friends or just relax in general. The wall decor is aesthetic and matches the theme of the store. There are also a good number of board games available should you want to play. PARKING There is ample parking available in the lot before the store that is shared with neighboring vendors. read more

Always is a 5 star experience. The staff are so friendly and amazing and just acknowledging of everything. Every little bit of information for your order. Darcy is just fun and loving and sweet. While quiet she is just a ball of energy and I love hearing her conversations with the other staff. Azariah or Azzy is just so sweet and full of life. She's easily a beacon and takes note of everything Including when I asked for extra sugar in my teas. She's super friendly and knows me as well as my fiance on a personal level and even asks how we are doing etc. it's amazing having a friend to talk to. Josh is just fantastic! He's sassy and sarcastic but in a professional and fun way. Always making jokes and even asked us how our game progression is going on a common game we all play. Merry Christmas guys. You are so amazing and dearly cared for and this staff team is out of this world. (The entire staff team but this will be a mile long if I talk about each person) read more

Can I love all boba tea shops ? Yes. YES I CAN!!! Gong Cha is tucked in the corner of Salem Crossing shopping center. I found it while going to Fish Safari. Their menu is HUGE. Love that. They also have a kiosk to order from. Love that. You can choose all kinds of great things even how much ice and how sweet you want it. My go to favorite is the Earlgrey milk tea 100% with coffee jellies. Sometimes I get 70% ice. I like mine sweet. My husband only likes his 50% sweet and 70% ice. He loves the coffee milk. read more

I used to work at a small business boba shop as few years ago so I have high expectations for every boba place I go to. I usually like authentic flavors that rely on the tea leaf for flavor and I'm less into powder/artificially syrup flavored stuff. Although the drink I got was made with an artificial syrup flavoring it is actually really good. I got the pumpkin pie milk tea with boba and milk foam. I like my milk foam to have a very slight salty taste and this place nailed that. The pumpkin flavoring is very present but not overpowering. The boba consistency was very good as well, it wasn't too hard or too gooey but perfect. I got half sugar and it was the perfect amount of sweetness for me. The seating has cute couches and the bathroom I used was very clean and cute. It's definitely a place you can take a casual going out for boba pic! read more

My kids usually love Boba tea, but my recent visit to Gong Cha near Lynnhaven Pkwy (Near Walmart) was a nightmare. While my 9 year old daughter enjoying her drink, She discovered a sharp piece of copper metal in her tea! I was horrified and immediately brought it to the staff's attention. They admitted that it is a cleaning wire part. whatt???? Instead of a sincere apology or assurance that this wouldn't happen again, they seemed dismissive and just offered to replace my drink or refund. I expected much better, especially when it comes to food safety. I can't help but wonder about their cleanliness standards in the shop/kitchen. I won't be returning after this experience. I recommend anyone to stay away from these places where they don't care about the cleanliness and safty of customers especially kids ! read more

Gong Cha is a decent boba tea shop that is on the pricier side. I wanted to order a taro milk tea, but they ran out. I ordered a brown sugar ginger tea with 50% sugar and pearls by accident for ~$7-8 [I wanted to order a regular brown sugar milk tea]. The drink's flavor was kind of disgusting ngl. But that was my fault for ordering the wrong item. I've had other boba tea drinks from them, and they were all average in flavor. The pearls were soft, but nothing spectacular. The drink was not worth it because of the high price--one to two dollars above what you would normally get in NOVA. Overall, Gong Cha is just a normal boba tea shop that gets the job done. It's nothing special, nothing horrible--just good ole' boba tea. read more

Shout out to fellow yelper Timmy T. for putting Gong Cha on my radar. Was looking for a boba place that has crystal boba and Gong Cha delivered! I honestly had no idea what I wanted to order, but went with a drink from their milk foam series, a creme brûlée caramel black tea. The do have crystal boba aka white pearls, for an 85 cent up charge, which I recommend you try. My husband got a Vietnamese iced coffee and he was really impressed with it as well. I think it's really interesting you can control the level of sweetness and amount of ice in your drink. The first time I went, I got 50% sweetness and it was pretty sweet. The second time I went I tried 30%. I wish they could do a little less than 30% for sweetness as it's still fairly sweet in my opinion, but the employee said they couldn't. They do offer discounts and they're listed on the back of the register for Monday thru Wednesday, so check before paying! Also, follow their Instagram, they had a little Thanksgiving special today. Can't wait to come back and try something new. read more

I've been wanting to go to Gong Cha since it opened, but we never had a chance because we live far. We also go to the next door boba place because they have food (and rice). After a year since they opened, we finally decided to try it. On our first visit, we ordered the Chocolate Marble and the Mango smoothie. For our second visit, we ordered wintermelon tea and wintermelon milk tea. We enjoyed all our drinks, however when I was drinking my wintermelon tea, I noticed that there's a tap water aftertaste in my drink. I'm not sure if they use tap water and I really don't mind if they use tap water but it would be nice if my drink tastes more wintermelon than tap water. I love the ambiance of this place. It is bright. While the place is not huge, it does not make me feel claustrophobic. It is also clean and has a couple of table and chairs if you decide to eat there. We will definitely be back. read more

I have to give this Gong Cha location major props. I'm not from the VB area, but I have family here and I was visiting. Their menu is more extensive than the Gong Cha locations I've seen in NJ. In my opinion, their menu is also nicely organized and easy to navigate through. I wished my Gong Chas offered the same :( Purple yam smoothie was so good!! Highly recommend if you are an ube or taro lover. The matcha marble latte was also very smooth. Honestly wish I could've tried all their marble latte series.. The space itself is very spacious. It's currently closed due to COVID-19, but there is a table outside. They have a bunch of games available. I could definitely see this as a nice place to hang out. The music playing gives it a nice chill vibe as well. Employees were all helpful and pleasant. Total side note but the way to get inside the plaza was a little chaotic with these weird angle turns and stop signs. It's located next to a Walmart. Will definitely return here again when I'm back in the area! :) missing that purple yam smoothie.. read more

Update as of 7/23: I never got a response from the manager Victoria so I had to reach out to her asking for a refund again. She contacted me and she said now the refund was sent back to my sister in law and I and it should show up 3-5 business days. Since they got a new system, I think they need to make sure how to use it and make sure the gratuities aren't automatically added. As for the drinks, this location has more than the ones I'm used to in NYC Gong Cha. They have taro slush and purple yam slush. When I inquired about the difference on the two, no one could answer me. The purple yam slush didn't even look like the one pictured as the one we got had milk foam swirled in and the picture on their wall didn't. The early grey milk tea with 3 j's was ok and the passions fruit was alright too. The prices are higher than KFT which is across the street. Update as of 7/22: I like how fast they respond back after I msg them but still no confirmation of her refunding us on 7/22 and she said not to worry that she will take care if it. Update as of 7/21: Speaking to the manager and waiting for her to refund us. Gong Cha should be ashamed of themselves, they add TIPS to the transaction even though your receipt only shows the total without it!!! Everyone keep your receipt and check your bank statement on your credit card. Call them and complain and get your refund. Not sure how many times it happened to others but it happened to me and my sister in laws. See images I posted for proof. read more

Well.... it was ok for me. I tried the milk tea with boba. The boba was perfectly chewy and soft. The milk tea was weak though. It did not have a strong tea flavor. I was so hyped up when I heard Gong Cha is finally coming to Virginia Beach because this place is where I get my bubble tea supplement when I was in Hong Kong and New York The Gong Cha in VB has totally ruined their brand because it tasted nothing like the ones I had in other places. I usually get the chocolate milk tea will bubble (or some call them pearl) when I was in Hong Kong but I'll always get the original milk tea with bubbles for my first visits in all bubble tea places because if they can't make their most basic, fundamental product right, I won't be trying their other stuff. I've been waiting for half an hour in line but only couple minutes for the drinks so I think it's the customers who's making the waiting time slow. I ordered the Pearl Milk Tea, 30% sweet and less ice. By looking at the color if the tea I already can tell it's different than the ones I had in other places. The brown color does not look like tea. It looks more watery and light. The taste, as what it looks like, no real tea flavor all. It taste like the already-made fake tea, and just brown sugar. The 30% sweet didn't taste like 30% too. It's too sweet compare to the 30% sweet from other places, for example, Kung Fu tea. The bubbles are good however, which is the reason I gave them two stars instead of one. Also the service are ok. I asked for less ice and they did it right too. Not a fan of Korean music but they're playing those in and outside of the store, if you're interested. Imma give them one last shot because my mom hasn't been to there yet and she wants to try it out. I hope this bad experience is just because it's their first day and haven't get their stuff right. read more

This was my first time trying Gong Cha. I've had almost any other boba place in the area. I love how you can customize pretty much anything on the menu - toppings, sugar levels, and ice. They have a HUGE menu which was pretty overwhelming to me because I'm pretty basic and just get a taro smoothie with bubbles. Just comparing the taro smoothie, it's pretty standard and nothing special. I always get 50% sugar and it was still fairly sweet. I also tried the taro green tea latte with bubbles which was different. I like how there's bits of taro chunks in it but I don't taste the tea and it seemed pretty watered down. I got my nephew the mango smoothie with 50% sugar which he thought was good and couldn't tell the difference. I do like the texture of the bubbles - it's firm but has a good chew and a sweet taste to it. They also have a variety of games which is nice if you want to hang out there. Overall I think this place has decent bubble tea especially if you like variety. read more

Gong Cha had been on my list for quite some time now, as I was told it was the best, and that may be why it lost a star. When you walk in you order on a kiosk instead of with the cashier which is perfect for all your introverted needs. The inside is cute and clean, a good spot to catch up with friends or do some school work if you're into that kind of thing. Now for the important part: the drinks. I had the wintermelon milk tea and the brown sugar milk tea, both with "dirty pearls", and I have the same opinion for both. The boba balls were fantastic, great chew with the brown sugar flavor really coming through. My biggest gripe is that I wish the tea flavor was stronger. Even with 30% sweetness, the flavor of the wintermelon and the black tea was a little washed out. It's probably my fault for hyping this place up so much in my head, but it just didn't quite hit the way I thought it would. Overall, it's a super solid choice that I would definately recommend to anyone in the area. Hopefully I'll find that one drink that catches my heart and I can come back with that missing star. read more

I really love coming here after sushi dinner or for social hour with my good friend. Gong Cha is always a quick and easy stop for my Boba needs, and they offer punch cards for us frequent flyers. They have different types of drinks like milk tea or smoothies, warm and cold, so they'll have your drink one way or another. I do wish they had Taro flavor, for it's my favorite, but I enjoy other flavors they have paired with toppers for extra fun. Under non-pandemic circumstances, the dining area includes tabletop games to enjoy with your company. They do have waffle items if you're feeling snacky while you're here.
