Just want to shoutout their frozen yogurt cakes! I really wanted to support a local business for my birthday this year, but I wanted to get a cake under $30, especially because I only celebrated with my family. After some online searching, I found out Yo Mama has cakes! I've enjoyed ice cream cakes in the past, and I've enjoyed Yo Mama's frozen yogurt in the past, so I decided to give it a try! At the time of writing (3/2024), their frozen yogurt cakes are $25, and it came out to $27.88 with tax. You can pick two flavors to be layers on the cake. The flavor options they had available were taro, cake batter, vanilla, chocolate, coconut, mango, pineapple, and strawberry. They also told me I could pick either brownie pieces or pound cake for the middle of the cake and pirouline crumbs, sprinkles, Oreo crumbs, and mochi for the top of the cake. I opted for a mango and taro cake (I love both of those flavors), and told them they can choose what they think is best for the rest of the cake. Looking back, I kinda wish I requested for taro for the top layer because I love the color purple, but it's all good! It was absolutely delicious, and my family very much enjoyed it as well! Much better than expected. Everything was so fresh!!! The family really enjoyed the treat, but service was somewhat lacking. Surface parking is plentiful and nearby their door. The cares was clear of debris. The set up is pretty cool with a lot of wall decor and a comfy couch. Several fro yo flavors to choose from that's self serve. I decided on cake batter. They offer two size cups. Then comes the fun part, picking out your toppings. Everything you can imagine is on the bar. Candy, fruit, brownies it's all fresh too! Then top it off with a syrup Checkout is weighed and that determines your price. Three cups can $20+ including tax. They do not have a tipping option which was refreshing to not have that awkward moment at checkout. They also offer Boba tea. Star of the show is the dairy free coconut flavor! I am only writing this review to rave about that and that only, because nothing else matters. I mean I did enjoy the taro and mango but it didn't compare to the coconut. And as a lactose intolerant girlie my husband also appreciated the dairy free coconut option! First timer here! Was pleasantly surprised by the vairety of the place, it's almost like an Asian-American mini mart infused with froyo. Super cute store, lots and lots of topping choices for froyo, more options than Sweet Frog and The Skinny Dip for sure. Upon walking in, you'll see they sell different kinds of ramen on the left and drinks. They also make cakes with froyo and sell pre-packaged cups of froyo in their fridge. Service was quiet but friendly, they seemed to enjoy working there. They were playing Bluey on the TV, as this store is clearly kid-friendly. Apparently if you guess the exact weight of your cup, you get it for free! Definitely would be back, next time I'll take a closer look at some other trinkets and plushies they sell too. Went here after another place could not accommodate us for dessert. I have to say "WOW' on their toppings bar, there was so much to choose from. And it was all nice and neat and fresh looking. Dessert in Virginia Beach, Virginia... After lunch, my friend really wanted to go to Yo Mama. I was stuffed, but I wanted to check out this place that she really likes. Yo Mama is run by a very polite Korean gentleman. He sure kept himself busy by refilling the toppings containers, wiping down the tables, mopping the floor, working the cash register, making our smoothies, etc. My friend said that he considered other franchises, but decided to open his own place so that he could make his own ideas a reality. We noticed more Asian flavors such as taro soft serve and different types of popping boba - besides little mochi balls. My friend's husband and I are lactose intolerant, so, we both got a Strawberry Dragon Fruit smoothie. My friend helped herself to the soft serve and toppings. She tried to get it free by guessing the weight within 0.53 ounces... Shucks! She was close! Haha! The decor is colorful and the environment is clean and bright. They really need to train their employees better! Stopped by this afternoon while in town to get some froyo. My wife saw the "snowyo" sign and wanted to try it. The employees said they were new and were never trained how to make it. He offered to make a snow cone and then she could add ice cream to it. Well, he ended up filling up almost an entire large froyo cup with red colored shaved ice, leaving maybe 20% room left for her to add ice cream/toppings. Since the cup was nearly full, it ended up costing nearly $14 just for that one! Add in my modest cup of froyo and our tab was $24!! What really pissed me off was after we paid, I noticed a sign near the menu saying a snow cone was only $2.50!! They need to train their employees better so they actually know how to make things on the menu instead of letting them make whatever they want. We basically paid for a snow cone by weight!! Pretty sure a snoyo is supposed to be a little shaved ice with a little froyo or ice cream mixed in... I do not recommend this place at all and definitely don't recommend getting anything on the menu besides froyo and toppings because you're able to make it yourself and control the weight/price! read more

Friendly staff, clean location. I admit they are often playing Peppa Pig on a TV for kids, but they do have a nice seating area with a mix of chairs and couches. They often have the radio playing with Peppa Pig and I admit the overlapping can be a bit odd, but since I'm usually chatting with a friend, it isn't too jarring. They have boba, smoothies and snow cones, but the star is the froyo. They rotate flavors weekly, I'm a basic witch and like the vanilla, which is always on tap. Despite the good reviews, I don't really have much of anything good to say. The only good thing I can say is that the female working was friendly and quick to get my order completed. Upon walking in, there were two customers or what looked to be friends of the female working that were not wearing masks. Despite feeling uncomfortable with the lack of health precautions, I placed my order anyway. I ordered the taro coconut milk tea. The tea was extremely powdery, over sweetened, and the boba was hard in the center. To top it off, the cup was almost all ice. Even if I had enjoyed the tea, I was barely able to get any. The staff does an amazing job at keeping the toppings well stocked and very clean. If someone spills, they are on it to pick up the dropped bits and keep the toppings full to the top. This is my favorite frozen yogurt place in Virginia Beach. They always have great flavors like lychee and mango, and their fruit is always fresh (unlike the mushy strawberries or canned stuff they serve at places like Skinny Dip) They even have board games out for you to play with if you're with a group of people, which is a plus :) Their bubble tea, on the other hand, isn't very good (aside from their Thai tea!) The boba is very inconsistent. I've had it undercooked some days, and way too soft others. The last time I had it, it had a strange coffee taste, which was pretty gross in my white peach drink! It's been awhile since I've visited Yo Mama (I was a KFT addict when they first opened, I'll admit) but Yo Mama has proven that they strive to stay ahead of the competition in the boba tea game. When I walked in, I was impressed by how everything was so neat and clean. The toppings bar were nicely stocked and the counters were spotless! Though the variety of toppings looked so pretty and tempting for me to get some froyo, I opted for what I came for in the first place and ordered a taro boba tea. Once it was done, the lady who prepared it walked over to me and handed it. Wasn't expecting that, I've been so used to just having a number yelled out at the other side of the counter. Every time I go here I half expect Wilmer Valderrama to come and serve me (for you Millennials, look up 'Yo Mama' on MTV to get the reference). This place has some of the best froyo in the area. Not as big of a selection as Skinny Dip, but the variety changes constantly. I think strawberry and mango are mainstays, and mixing them together is so good! Add some of the many toppings they have to make it your own! To top it off, guess the weight within 0.53 ounces {I think} of your cup and you will be able to role out with a free cup. I took my little diva here this afternoon to try bubble tea. Of all the flavors, she chose cotton candy; I had pineapple. My daughter said she liked hers, but I could tell by the look on her face and the pace at which she was drinking that she really didn't. Overall, I enjoyed mine...it was different, but it was good. It was kind of like a pineapple frappe with the addition of tapioca balls, popping pearls (little juice filled balls), and strawberry jelly pieces. I honestly didn't care for the tapioca or the jelly. If it was only the pineapple tea and the popping pearls, it would've been perfect, especially if it was a hot day!!! The "only" place I go for Bolba Tea. Luv this place, owner is always kind and friendly, and the place is spotless.

We live a bit away on the far end of VB but every time we make the drive over here (especially since they open early) we're always welcomed by the nicest owners. It never fails, we always feel so welcomed every time we walk in. My daughter loves it here because they'll always offer a tv show for her to watch and they have games for her to play with. The menu is so varied that there's something for everyone. And the owner is always making sure the toppings for the fro-yo is always fresh and well stocked, always making sure the tables and chairs are clean and presentable, and always checking on his guest. Stingy. Icy. Overpriced STINGY! I asked for sample cups: dude gave me ONE. The norm is 2, some places it's 3-4, other places just have them out for you to use at your discretion. At Yo Mama, you get ONE, so pick your sample wisely, cause you only get ONE! ICY! The froyo itself is like ice and water. No creamy soft serve cloud like froth, but rather watery sugary ice that melts into a liquid mush. OVERPRICED! Only three sizes to chose from: Large, Extra Large and Extra Extra Large! No medium or small cups, just exaggerated Styrofoam monstrosities (and bad for the environment too by the way!). I took the smaller of the cups and put a small serving inside it. Price: $4.75!!!! Serious?!? That's the equivalent of a tub of froyo at some of the more reputable frozen yogurt shops throughout the country. I'm giving it two stars instead of one because there is free parking, location was clean, comfortable (though gaudy) sofas to sit on and plenty of toppings to adorn your watery mess! Update: With the rise of Boba Tea establishments in the area .. There's no doubt that Yo Mama has been inundated with competition. Not so long ago, Yo Mama was THEE place to go for boba. This is not the case anymore. I paid a visit after the height of KFT and when I did, Yo Mama FINALLY redid some parts of their menu for a more organized and finished looked (finally!). They also added new flavors that I was eager to try. It was a valiant effort but the drink I had was very powdery. I'm not really picky with boba tea but I couldn't finish the drink. Still a good place for Froyo though. Still clean with friendly service as well. I'd just get my Boba elsewhere but I definitely won't knock this off my list of places to go especially if I want froyo or am feeling sentimental. We got another Groupon for this place and came back to try another boba combination and found our new favorite. Make sure you try the guava flavor with mango jelly!
