Sundae Scoop has quickly become one of our favorite spots in the Kempsville area, and it's such a great addition to the neighborhood. Knowing it's veteran-owned makes me even happier to support them. The ice cream is consistently creamy without being overly sweet, which is harder to find than you'd think. Every flavor we've tried has been fantastic, and the staff is always genuinely kind and welcoming. The prices are reasonable, too, which makes it easy to stop by whenever the craving hits. My wife is always getting an "ice cream itch," so she'll randomly decide to "go check out the flavors" and somehow always comes home with ice cream for both of us. I'm certainly not complaining. My go-to order is the ube ice cream mixed with cookie dough, and yes, as a grown man,I still get rainbow sprinkles every single time. No shame. I don't eat ice cream often, but I was sooo glad that I had the opportunity to try some from Sundae Scoop. I was impressed by the number of different flavors that they had available and they all sound delicious!! I ended up getting a Salted Caramel Butter pecan scoop in a waffle cone and my girlfriend got the banana pudding in a cup. Both were smooth and creamy and not overly sweet. I can't wait to go back and try some of their other flavors. Our total was about 12 dollars. Sundae Scoop is really amazing! I'm not an ice cream lover. But I love Sundae Scoop. Leaving a doctor appointment in Chesapeake early this week I was excited that I would pass Sundae Scoop on the way home. I pulled into the shopping center & found a locked door at the shop. Peeping into the window I saw that it was definitely closed. Disappointed I turned to leave. A man wheeling in what must have been today's prepared ice creams asked me if I wanted ice cream. When I answered in the affirmative he unlocked the door & turned on the lights. I learned that during the winter they don't open till 3. Asking if he was the owner, he confirmed that he & his wife were. Going to the back while I got my two pints of Ube Ice Cream from the cooler, he returned with three complementary containers of flavors that I hadn't tried. Sharing with him the fact that I wasn't an Ice Cream person but loved his, he asked if it was the Ube. I told him that flavor was my favorite but it was because his tasted different & so much better than other Ice Cream. Mentioning that other Ice Cream was just too sweet. He confirmed that was the biggest mistake people made preparing Ice Cream. He certainly knows the best way to prepare the deliciousness. Somehow we also even got on the topic of NFL Football. Don't I always? It's wonderful to learn that one of my favorite spots is owned by such a friendly & nice person. He didn't have to unlock the door so I could buy Ice Cream. But he did. Love this place and the ice cream is amazing. The staff is just so friendly and welcoming. We took advantage of their buy 2 pints, get a free scoop. Who doesn't love free ice cream?!! My free scoop was brown sugar butter pecan and my Friend chose Ube. Perfect afternoon treats and such an inviting and brightly decorated place to sit and enjoy our ice cream. This ice cream shop is my bias of all ice cream shops, so much that we're thinking about having them cater our wedding (LOL). The ice cream is clearly made from scratch and in no way lacks in delicacy. Each flavor that is meant to have chunks really packs it in, I can essentially get a pistachio in every bite of that flavor. They rotate flavors to keep the lineup fresh. There are containers in the freezer by the register to take the goodness home to the family. The shop is cozy, inside and out. And I love that I've seen them at local events within Hampton Roads. What makes them unparalleled to any dessert joint I've been to is their service. The owner is often there, and he is so remarkably friendly. There is a young woman that usually mans the counter (I think it's his daughter?) that is incredibly warm and bright. Everyone that works there loves the ice cream game. We had a craving for some ice cream on a warm evening and since this shop is right around the corner from our home, we decided to give them a try. The shop itself is small but welcoming. Staff were friendly and patient while I tried different flavors to find the one I wanted to order. As a dairy intolerant sweet tooth girl, I 100% approve this place for amazing, creamy vegan options and a vegan waffle cone! I didn't realize they had so many options. The day I went they were heavily advertising their sorbets on their flavor board as the dairy free options. I tried one but I wasn't feeling it. I really wanted something creamy... and I got exactly what I wished for. The person working brought out the goods once I told her that I'm dairy free. She said, "oh we have chocolate and butter pecan"... I said I want both! lol. Then, I was amazed that she offered to make me a vegan waffle cone!!!! Because wow! I wasn't expecting that. I ended up getting a vegan waffle bowl. It was lovely to watch the process of my waffle bowl being made. I got 0 toppings because I didn't want any. But I loved my vegan waffle bowl so much that I crumbled it on top of my scoops! The scoops are huge... so generous... and I hope that never changes. lol. My vegan choices were super creamy and you couldn't even tell you were eating dairy free ice cream because the texture was very similar to regular ice cream. Trust me, I've had my fair share of vegan ice creams and they don't always impress like Sundae Scoop did during my visit!!! Additionally, the vibes in here are absolutely my style. It has been over a year since Sophia and I stopped by. The previous visits have been really good with ice cream made just right. Since we were in the area, it made sense to catch up and see how things were going. When we walked in, it wasn't a lot of foot traffic. And the decor was kept neat and clean. Even though there weren't a lot of customers, the staff seemed ready to serve. I chose a single scoop of salted caramel butter pecan in a waffle cone. Very good stuff. The ice cream itself wasn't overly sweet. The cone was a little hard, but good enough to digest. Sophia had ube ice cream in a cone and enjoyed her selection. Once again, another great visit. Hands down my favorite ice cream shop in the area. I don't know which is better, the flavors or the atmosphere. Philip and the family that own the shop are amazing. Great story. The staff reminds me of a time long ago where teenagers worked in businesses like this and provided amazing service. You can tell they really enjoy being there. I love supporting black veteran-owned businesses. The fact that they rotate their flavors and never seem to come up with a bad idea is key. I love trying new things but also love going with my favorites. If I could recommend anything would be the mystery bag. Six scoops at an amazing price and it gives you a chance to try something that maybe you wouldn't at first glance. I love this place! I've been 3x with my son once, both kiddos and with extended family. The owners are awesome and very friendly. The ice cream is superb! The incident is clean, beautiful and engaging. The options to choose from rotate and all of them are great! I make the drive from the Haygood area deep into Kempsville to grab a seat. Wow, the unique flavors that Sundae scoop offers are just out of this world. The three rich flavors we got were banana pudding, butter pecan, and cinnamon coffee. My family really enjoyed the generous ice cream scoops with the flavored chocolate and vanilla cones (extra charge). The store is very clean and inviting with plenty of parking. Been want to try this spot out! Loved the variety of options and loved the flight!!! We got the ube, roasted coconut, mint fudge, and cinnamon coffee for the flight. Cherry for the little one, Birthday cake for our daughter and hubby got the pistachio. Out of all the flavors our faves were the pistachio, cherry, and cinnamon coffee. Love the modern clean setup and you walk in and smell waffles freshly made. Cool how you can see them make it too. Signed up for their rewards program. Hubby wants a shirt and after spending $100 he can pick one. Love everything about the new place! Only downside were a few flavors of Ice cream. Yay!! I finally get to have an ice cream shop close to me! It's right off of Kempsville Rd in the Walmart Marketplace shopping center. I met the owner and he was cool and he said they will be working on getting Ubers eats as part of their service so stay tune! I was able to sample a few ice cream before choosing the Cookie Monster. I really wanted the ube but it was sold out. The Cookie Monster had chunks of cookie dough and chocolate chip. It was really yummy! But it didn't have that dark blue color like you will find at other ice cream shops. I believe I heard one of the workers tell a customer it's due to not using artificial dyes. And that is great!! We don't need that in our food and I felt happy I was eating something that was somewhat healthy!! I did return a few days later and got that ube!! But it was a little too sweet for me. Like too sweet...I didn't really get that ube flavor. This place is for sure a great place to come and get that ice cream treat with plenty of ice cream flavors! read more

There was one woman up front taking care of us. She wasn't very friendly, and I got the vibes that she didn't want to be there, but she was quick with samples and patient with the kiddos. I got a pint of ube ice cream and the amount for a pint really hurt my soul. I told myself that it's okay because I'm supporting a small business, right? My kiddo got their red velvet cone and vanilla ice cream. I nibbled the cone and tried the ice cream too, and it was pretty good actually. Cone was nice and crispy, not old and stale. The vibrant red color against the vanilla was very pretty if you're looking for an instagramable photo. My husband got their mocha and while I love coffee, I did not love this flavor. Ube though? Ube was the cat's pajamas. Flavor was pleasant while the texture was firm yet creamy. Overall, I liked the ice cream, I really did. The service however leaves a lot to be desired. read more

My sister has been raving about this local family owned hand made ice cream shop like she has been here before. We finally stopped by for some scoops and it was wonderful!!!! When we (4 of us) walked in the young lady said, "I have plenty of tasting spoons". I thought that was so hospitable because most places don't really like to request too many tastings. I really enjoyed the decor, mural, and how pretty the actual ice cream was. Pro tip: first and last scoops in the tin are the best because you get the most chunks. I got the moose tracks ice cream and it was delicious! I loved the chunks.
