Another gem I tried while visiting my niece. We arrived about 15 minutes before closing, and there was quite a line. But it moved quickly. They also had a drive-thru. You order at one window and pick up at another. I ordered a small turtle sundae which included pecans and caramel. I always opt for no whipped cream. Calories I don't need lol. The size was larger and the price cheaper than the custard spot I frequent in Jacksonville. This made me very happy. And the number of pecans blew my mind. I also enjoyed the christian music playing on the patio. I will absolutely ask my niece to bring me back on my next visit!

Yummy ice cream. Good prices. Kids love it, and we really enjoy coming here year after year. :)

Rick's is a Portsmouth gem. So many options to choose from and the staff are patient and will answer all questions. My niece and I got super sundaes. Flavors: vanilla custard, strawberries, and Oreos Vanilla custard, strawberries, and vanilla wafers The sundae was really good and filling. The Oreos were crunchy and provided a good balance with the glazed strawberries and custard. We sat in the patio area as there is no indoor seating and enjoyed the breeze. I love it here. There is a swing for the kids to play on. We will be back!

My husband and I went our first date alone since we became parents. We started with dinner, then checked out the casino and ended with custard. Let me tell you, it was the best hidden gem on this side of town. It was packed, even at 9pm. The drive through line was wrapped around the building. Yet, the teenagers that worked there were both kind and efficient. We ordered and it was ready lightening fast. To top it off, it was delicious! If you are ever looking for a super affordable dessert- highly recommend Rick's Frozen Custard.

My kids and I were having lunch at Chick N Roll and as we were finishing up, my kids asked if we could go for ice cream. The server overheard our convo and suggested we go to Rick's Frozen Custard (RFC). I had heard the buzz about RFC from fellow Yelpers last Summer and had forgotten it was out in P-Town. Well, thanks to the server at Chick N Roll, my kids and I got a treat after lunch! It's an old school joint. It opened in the 19XX's LOL. You know it's old when it opened in the last millenia. They have a pick up counter on the outside or a drive-thru. That drive thru was pretty consistent and cars kept coming in and pulling up. There is only outdoor seating, but it is covered. They are obviously known for their custards, as their name suggests, but there are other items on the menu like no sugar added ice creams, super sundaes (huge), banana splits, dipped cones, sundaes (smaller, in a bowl), concretes (custard with mix-ins), malts/shakes, and smoothies with a plethora of toppings and extras to choose from. As for savory items, under the "Rick's Eats" section on their menu, they also have hot dog/chili dog, BBQ sandwich, nachos with cheese and chips. I wanted to start off my first visit with the basics, so I went with the classic dipped cone and my kids each went with an Oreo concrete (it's the DQ blizzard equivalent). Holy wow, the custard was so creamy. I'd be in deep trouble if Rick's was anywhere near my house. The kids really enjoyed their concretes and found joy in finding huge chunks of Oreo. It was pretty large (even though it's one of the smaller cups, as compared to most other things), so they were struggling by the end. Next time, I'll have to get one for both of them and get an extra cup or something. Had I not had a large lunch prior to our visit, I would have probably polished off their concretes too, but I behaved. Haha. This was a great way to wrap up our tour of P-Town. We most definitely will be back to indulge in their sweet and creamy custards. Stay safe, Friends!

This is one of my favorite places to get custard and the flavors are exceptional. Every time I visit the service is amazing everyone is friendly and patient. My go to is the turtle custard. It has pecans, hot fudge, caramel, whipped cream, and a cherry. The custard is so smooth and rich. I love the freshness of the custard. It's not too sweet it definitely hits the spot. The caramel and the hot fudge as a great balance to the custard. It is so filling and addicting. I actually prefer custard over ice cream. To me it's tastes so much better. The custard is thicker and to me taste more authentic. I absolutely love this place. The prices are very affordable as well.

Ricks is a staple in Ptwn and rightfully so. It's a classic, with the classic ice cream flavors & combinations. I tried the banana pudding concrete because how can you go wrong with two awesome desserts?! It was a 6/10. Bananas weren't ripe enough so they were a tad bitter, and no where near enough cookies. When I go back again- i fully intend on amping up the cookies and making sure the bananas are on the riper side.

What a lovely little mom and pop shop that can get pretty busy! It was pretty hot out and a bit windy, but we were able to enjoy at one of their 5-6 tables and I believe there's a swing seat too. I really couldn't decide on what I wanted but I was in the mood for whatever was closest to a Sonic blast so I opted for the concrete with an add in. Now. I never save ice cream of plan on having leftovers but this was something else! Abut 1/5 left and I just couldn't finish all this goodness! Would definitely visit again to try all their different pairings

Best quick stop dessert spot in the 757, arguably. The Banana Pudding Concrete eaten outside is something I dream about daily. Prices are super great, service is friendly and there's an option for drive-thru OR cute outdoor seating.

Looks dead now, but there was a line out the parking lot.

Why are there only 3-5 workers when there's a line of cars outside and a line of people standing and waiting?

Once we were greeted (after at least 5 mins of standing in front of the window where we visibly made eye contact with workers) we placed an order for 4 snowballs. Just snowballs, nothing elaborate. We waited by making use of the hula hoops provided by the store (nice touch), interacted with others who were waiting, chatted amongst ourselves and still our snowballs were not ready. We asked what appeared to be the older of the three young ladies working if we can have a refund and were told our orders were being finished. I said but the workers are back there eating a snowball. No acknowledgement was made that the workers were not using their time well to prepare orders. About 5 more mins and the worker we spoke with poked her head inside the shop and said something to the other 2 that resulted in our snowballs being finished and handed off a few mins later. I understand summer employment jobs and having fun while at work in an environment like a snowball stand, however, in total we probably waited around 30+ minutes for 4 snowballs while we watched the workers eating a snowball, chatting with each other, and moving at a snails pace. Snowball is ice and flavor. Training is needed to make sure the workers understand how to maximize their efficiency so they can get customers out of their face and they would actually have more time to do the things that young summer workers like to do when working with their peers.

After an afternoon at the Children's Museum in Portsmouth this seemed a logical choice to get ice-cream. The museum offers no snack area and everyone was ready for something to bridge to dinner. Parking is by street, or nearby parking garage that's free. I utilized the garage and found it clean. The walk up to the business was tidy Scoops offers ice-cream, pizza and bottled drinks. So it's kinda perfect for the location. Their are a few tables and a restroom. Everything was clean. They offer Hershey's ice-cream which to me is low quality. They had a nice selection of around eight flavors. You can choose from two types of cones and different bowl sizes. Prices for the quality are steep in my opinion. My order a waffle cone of Birthday Cake. My daughter same with Chocolate. Total $5.96 w/o tip. The ice-cream was overly soft to the point of close to melting immediately. The cashier was nice enough. He worked with a female who scooped. Assuming a husband/wife operation. I would return if in the area, but there are better area alternatives.
