This is a very special place, although it is not for everyone. Not recommended for children. It is not large, most seats are at the bar, and the few tables are all tall and not spacious. Not recommended for people who do not appreciate basic bar ambiance. Do not visit if you want to drink spirits. Do not visit if you object to sports bars. For those newer to Yelp there is indeed a specific category for "Dive Bars" and it's not easy to have Yelp bestow this on your business. I would go so far as to call this a "Dude Dive Bar" Or is there more than what meets the eye at this small watering hole. So what makes this place such a dive? Is it the fact they literally are a hole in the wall, pretty much a bar, few tables inside that's it. The restrooms are so small there is no room for a sink and for that matter no TP in the Mens room. I guess the women are just lucky to have one and hopefully for them they have TP. Layers of paint hide most of the graffiti... DARN! Hands are washed behind the bar. Maybe it's the fact half of the customers were sporting awesome looking ink, proudly displaying in a tank top. The filthy foul language could win a few of these dudes an Oscar winning performance in the category of best MOTHER FU**IN dive bar dialect. So what else ya got !!! Well how about a signed publicity photo of no other than Ron Jeremy America's favorite porn star. YEP, they have it prominently hung behind the bar. I did find one woman brave enough to belly to the bar with a room full of loud foul mouthed jaber jawin Men. She was with her BF and is a regular per the bartender. I sat beside them and looked over the lunch menu. They recommended the pastrami, or brisket knowing it was my first time. There was a single employee ... YES a dude! He was so busy he could not even acknowledge me for a bit. As a matter of fact I had to ask for a seat at the bar from a few guys standing up. I quickly decided on the brisket and a local Beach Brewing Saigon from the tap. It does not take long to figure out this is a regulars hang out. The brew was fantastic! I'm talking one of the best tasting beers I have ever had. Upon discussing selection in bottle and tap I learned from the bartender they switch out taps ever two days and bottles of IPA and Crafts every two weeks. This is not the place you should order a Bud Light, NO WAY! They have a methodology, a goal if you will to educate their customers on the beers they serve. So hold on one MF second here... EDUCATION! (insert Scooby voice... hu) Maybe they are more than a dive for dudes, I mean Women and Men alike enjoy some suds while getting educated at the bar admiring Ron Jeremy. Let's wrap this up... Brisket was huge and incredible melt in your mouth deliciousness. It came w/ a side of chips and fresh pickle. My beer washed it down nicely. Even the woman setting beside me was impressed I polished the GD thing off and the pint was soon after. Service was friendly, not over the top. The guy was totally slammed by himself, so I get it. For those interested in shooting pool, they have a table very masculine red felt. Juke Box for tunes, but I heard no music on this visit. Also an overflow beer garden in back that is quite spacious. I can see this being a rowdy SOB on weekend evenings. Beer education in a dive bar setting with awesome food who would have thug it. This has to be a place I embrace. This is a small, but fantastic bar. When you walk in, there's a bar on your left and a single pool table in the back (it's $1.50 per game) and there's also an outdoor section with a smoker. Everybody seemed to be a local and I understand why. It's tucked away and it has cheap and TASTY drinks. The beer is very flavorful and has a wide variety. Had a really good lunch here a couple of Sundays ago. I stopped in with a co-worker and the main bar was packed from front to back for the game. We ordered a couple of beers and seated ourselves at the very last table before the back door and commenced to watch the game. It turns out the bartender was by himself as everyone else was at the Green Flash brewery event. We eventually managed to score some menus and ended up ordering the Pub Club. It took a while to get our sandwiches, again Kudo's to the bartender because he was busting his butt, and really enjoyed them. The clubs were cut in half, not quarters and came with chips on the side. They definitely hit the spot. I'm gonna have to get back in here again soon. read more

Our bartender was amazing. He was also the cook and cashier and probably janitor. He probably saves kittens in his off time. We came in around 2pm, and it was decently quiet. We ordered beer and food, of which options were plenty. I mentioned I was vegan to my friends, and he overheard me. He proceeded to prepare my food separately from theirs and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and comfortable. All I can say is WOW! I had to stop by this place and see what all the hype was about after hearing about all the different craft beers they had here. It's a little off the beaten path in a small commercial area. I walked in and was greeted by the bartender (I feel bad for forgetting his name) he was extremely knowledgeable about the beer they have and about any other beer questions you had. Their menu consisted of 90+ bottles of different beers, WAY Awesomeness! I enjoy coming to smaller places like this, it's what makes the experience as a whole so unique. I ended up grabbing a seat at the bar and ordered the Founders Breakfast Stout and man it was soo freaking good. However after looking at their menu I did notice that some of the beers on their list I've seen at "Total Wine" for half the price. Not to distract from any business just be mindful that it's possible to sample that beer you want at a cheaper price. But then again there are several other beers I've never seen or heard of so it's a win-win for this place either way. Visited VB from the west coast with my boyfriend who said this was his go-to when he lived here. If you love a good dive bar, then this place is absolutely for you! It's small, always has customers any time of day. Small outside portion, one pool table, and TouchTunes so you can control the music. All that is great, but the best part about this "hole in the wall" type of joint, is the FOOD. Holy sh**. The brisket is smoked off-site, homemade bread, etc. We went 3 times in a week vacation just to get the brisket BLT. Can't wait to go back! read more

Lynnhaven Pub is an oasis in a desert of crappy Virginia Beach Bars. These guys are the only ones who are truly passionate about bringing high-quality microbrews to VB pub-goers. These guys GET IT. They have the BEST variety of microbrews in Virginia Beach because they have beer from all over the U.S. If these guys can acquire these beers, then others should do the same. The atmosphere is nothing fancy, but that's OK. Even the bathrooms are less than desirable, but who cares when you can get such amazing beer on tap or in bottles. For a little hole in the wall this bar is fun and cozy. Now it is a little cramped and small inside, but don't be discouraged yelpers because... They have one of the best beer selections I have seen in that area!!Not to mention that they are well priced. And by beer I mean craft beer.. Not bud light, but they do have that if you like cheap beer. Usually the bar staff are cooking up rum ham (glorious), or some other delicious bar food for you to munch on, while you gulp down bubbly beer. I just happened to end up in the Hampton Roads area one day (it happens, you get in your car and the next thing you're 100's of miles from where you started for no apparent reason). While in the area i decided to look for some good beer places and i was directed to here. And i wasn't disappointed. It's a small place to (or at least what i took in of it). A bar that seats about 15 maybe, some tables further on, and another section in the rear. The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming. I got the impression that it's more of a locals place, but being a non-local i didn't feel out-of-place. Has a bit of a dive bar (dive as in good not trash) vibe to it as well. As drinks go, for a smallish, neighborhood like bar, i was impressed. The tap list was small, 7 i believe, but was all craft, a couple of local brews intermixed with some of the regional and bigger crafts plus a couple of seasonal. They also had a pretty good selection of bottles. My impression is even though this seems like a local / neighborhood type bar, this isn't the place where you're going to come to drink swill macros. The curve ball for me was the food. You know, your having a couple of drinks, been a long day, want to grub down, so you ask the barkeep what's the story with your food service. Answer: Hot Pastrami on Marble Rye. My response, Yes Please. Before i asked, i didn't see anyone eating or anything of the type being ordered. afterwards (and it might have had to do with me sitting near the entrance or the smell permeating throughout) it seemed like everyone and their brother ordered one. Well I got here at about 6:10pm. Waited. Waited. Watched your bartender not even acknowledge me 8 times walking back and forth not even filling orders just organizing bottles. Then someone comes in after me sits on the end. And they are helped immediately. 15 minutes goes by- still not one look at his surroundings to see new guests - not even a hey I'll be with you in just a moment. Just some kind of acknowledgement..You do not feel welcome here at all. So I walked out because obviously no one was going to serve me. There's one bartender who actually pays attention when I've been here before he's never ignored me like these other two employees and I guess he wasn't working today because I spend a lot of money when I do finally get to sit for a refreshing drink. But unfortunately couldn't spend any money here. I actually come here more Often then not and never had issues I even suggest it to friends to try in the area. I won't come back unless they can be some what nicer or acknowledge others existence just because I'm not a every day wasted regular in there doesn't mean I'm not a local. The food is good while inexpensive, along with the cocktails. They also have an excellent selection of beers.
