This is another staple in VB that I've visited many times before. They used to have an amazing brunch that's sadly discontinued :( so we decided to try them out for a nice casual dinner and the flavors were beyond what we could have hoped for. Our server was attentive and quick to help us find recommendations. We ordered their beer battered fish and chips that came out fresh and crispy! That's the best combo. The other entree we ordered was the black and bleu burger (I'm a huge bleu cheese lover) and the crumbles added the perfect contrast with the savory patty. Also, those sweet potato fries are to die for and I couldn't stop eating them! We went on Friday when they had live music, so it created a nice cozy feel for really anyone that wants an enjoyable night out with some good eats!

Came here with higher hopes honestly. It's a nice, chill location with modern vibes. They weren't that busy but it took a while for us to be served. The food and drink menus aren't extensive by any means. When we finally got our food, the only thing hot was the kids meal. The fries are delicious! They do have happy hour.

We were at Union Alehouse recently for a friend's retirement party. The staff was very accommodating to help with setting everything up. The food was excellent and everyone had a great time here.

I stopped by Union Ale House on a Monday night because I had a craving for a really good burger and let me tell you, I am so glad I did. We were seated right away and I couldn't help but notice the rustic vibes and decor in this place, it was very nice. After looking over the menu, I was torn between the Elote Burger or the Whiskey Row Burger. The server mentioned that both were great but recommended the Whiskey Row Burger. All burgers are served either 'traditional' or 'smashed' so I chose the smashed option with Truffle Fries. As we waited, I ordered the Union Margarita which included fresh, squeezed orange juice and it was great! Once the burger arrived, I was shocked to see how big the 'smashed' patties were. The Whiskey Row included bourbon bacon jam and blue cheese crumbles on a brioche bun! It was absolutely delicious and the burger was cooked perfectly!!! The sweetness from the jam mixed with the saltiness of the blue cheese created the perfect combination. The truffle fries were good as well but I feel lacked the abundant, truffle flavor. I highly recommend stopping by Union Ale House to try their drinks and their amazing burgers! The staff was nice and checked on us to make sure we had everything we needed. They offer great, Happy Hour specials and have live music on the weekends. Definitely check them out!!!

Everything was amazing! We had a couple of beers, the nachos, and burgers. It was fresh and super flavorful. The restaurant is clean and tastefully decorated/inviting. The service was on point & we will definitely be back!

Came back to give this place another try and asked about not filling the beer glass up and was told they have a two finger rule, where the glass is supposed to have "two fingers of foam" at the top. Honest question: Is that a real thing? I really want to like this place but I do not like paying for a pint and getting a smaller portion. The food is decent and the ambience is nice, but if you are going out with a group for drinks, you may want to consider my experiences when choosing.

    Quite the selection!

Yesterday evening was my 3rd visit to Union and they just keep getting better. If it wasn't such a drive for me, I'd probably be here weekly. Parking here is private lot and is a little tricky to access if you're eastbound on the Blvd. You'll have to turn onto Great Neck, turn into a shopping center and wind your way around to the restaurant. It's easy to access if you're heading west on the Blvd. Last night, it was just hubby and I, so we sat at the bar. It was a fairly quiet Sunday evening and it looked like half the restaurant was not in use, but the bar was lively. They had a few games on, which is always a plus for us. Of note, they have music bingo on Sunday evenings, which is a good opportunity to try to win a gift card. The bartender was engaging and super friendly. She had great recommendations for us. Hubby opted for steak tacos. He liked the flavor, but the portion size was more like a small tapas or non-shareable appetizer. There was plenty on the menu he wanted to try and will opt for something else next trip. I had the Med bowl with grilled chicken. This entree, on the other hand, was huge! I loved the pita wedges and the hummus was a great addition. All ingredients were really fresh and tasty. I've always had a good experience here and I look forward to returning!

I had to sit in a booth because the bar was full. Slightly cold atmosphere when you're alone but the service, drink and burger was great! I'd recommend bar area if there's room!

Visited this place on a Saturday just in time for brunch... too late to Calle breakfast too early to call it lunch. Lucky us they had a special for mimosas so we started the day right. I follow with a flight of beer from their selection and all 4 choices were great. Free verse, tangerine wheat, Jai Alai and ghost rider. For appetizer we had the "fried deviled eggs" never had battered and deep fried eggs before so that was a first for me. They were delicious!! For my meal I had the Elote burger with street corn fritter and cheese. The fries were DELICIOUS, make sure you get the fries, don't get those other sides, unless you get them in addition. Don't be like those people who ask for pickles in their burgers... The service was adequate and the ambiance was relax and chill but welcoming and warm. Plenty of tvs playing a variety of sports so this makes it a great place to come and hang out, have a beer or two while watching a game and spending time with friends and family. The wait time for the food is a little on the loooong side but that just gives you the opportunity to get some more beers, chit chat or just watch the game(s). Just a little something to keep in mind if you are limited on time, this may not be the place for upu at the moment. Definitely would return and recommend to everyone I know.

The last time I set foot inside their Pleasure House Rd location was at least 10 years ago. I celebrated my birthday there as my friends were kind enough to take me out. It was a Sunday morning and I sought out a place that offered brunch. I noticed 1608 was open and decided to head over, especially since I haven't visited them in ages. When I walked in, I noticed their dining room is dimly lit - much darker than I remember. I was greeted immediately by a kind hostess and she proceeded to sit me at a nearby table and provided me with menus (one food, one alcohol). I took my time looking over the food menu, and in the meantime I ordered a pint of Center of the Universe's Bald Irishman and a bottle of Boylan's Black Cherry soda (they do not have a soda fountain). What made this visit memorable was that 1608's bartender, Hunter, was an old acquaintance from back in my restaurant days. He spotted me and came over to say hi. After my meal, I continued to catch up with him at the bar. His presence made a pleasant experience even more fantastic. I thought I was hungry, so I ordered 2 dishes - Smoked Ham Fried Rice and the Breakfast Burrito. According to Hunter, every item is made fresh in house. After biting into each, you could tell that's true. Both the fried rice and burrito were delicious and boasted lots of flavor. Although I prefer my fried rice a bit simpler (if you give me just garlic fried rice, I am SET), 1608's fried rice (veggies, garlic, soy, basmati rice, 2 runny eggs, smoked ham) had a lot going on, which made for a flavorful dish. I liked the rice and the burrito (Korean style fried chicken breast, scrambled eggs, cilantro lime, cheddar, pico de gallo) a lot. I didn't finish either because it was a lot of food (I really thought I was hungry, haha). But these leftovers turned into a fantastic dinner later on. 1608 looked clean and organized, although I thought it was a little too dark inside, at least for brunch service. That's not a dealbreaker since everything from the food to the service was as excellent as I remember. I hope to return soon with my mom. Regardless, I'll find my way back eventually. Thank you, 1608 Crafthouse! And great seeing you again, Hunter! JV

Each time I drive south on Kempsville Road I have tried to locate it but failed. Today after visiting my favorite ice cream spot I decided on an early dinner and set my GPS for the restaurant's address. To my surprise it was extremely visible, sitting right at the entrance to Kemps River Crossing Shopping Center. Turn into the entrance from Kempsville Road and you'll see it sitting directly on the right. It was early. So we were able to immediately get a comfortable table and extremely prompt service. Our server remembered all my special needs. She answered my fiend's questions about her preferred wine choice. Our drinks were served very quickly. The menu was extremely interesting. There were different sections for differing tastes. The Lunch/Dinner Menu has sections for Sandwiches, Soups & Salads, Small Plates, Signature Burgers, Tavern Pizza & European Comfort Foods. The latter was where my interest lay. It was a really hard choice since I could easily have ordered many of the dishes on the menu. How could I choose between the British, German & Irish entrees? After much agonizing I finally chose German. My Jägerschnitzel, a German classic, consisted of hand-flattened pork loin fried and topped with traditional onion and mushroom gravy. It was served with kraut, warm potato salad, and green beans. The large portions were perfectly prepared. I was pleased with the choice. My friend ordered the other dish I had considered: Magners® Corned Beef & Beer Braised Cabbage which consisted of Magners® cider marinated USDA corned beef brisket, slow-cooked and thinly sliced in house, paired with braised cabbage and bacon, chive whipped potatoes, and whole carrots. This will be my choice the next time I visit. The food came very quickly. In fact, too quick. I like a little time to linger over my cocktail before the food arrives. I've now learned that next time I'll wait a little longer to give the server my order. Park Lane Tavern exuded the air of a happy place. I'm not quite sure how to describe it. It's a cross between a restaurant, tavern or very large comfortable diner. The closest restaurant I've found to this was a large cozy similar type establishment on the Jersey Shore, which was obviously a hangout for locals in the off season. The only thing missing at Park Lane was their roaring fire. But Park Lane has the better menu choices. There are distinctively different sections. We were in a section that consisted of regular tables and chairs, which is ideal for those of us with bad backs and titanium knees. :). But there were no televisions in the area. There were sections of high top tables, booths and large inviting looking bars. Televisions showing sports were visible in most sections. I'd like to try one of the different sections closer to the bar rather than to be immediately taken to the more comfortable section, obviously their section in which to seat people my age.:) After dinner I did a little research on the tavern. The establishment was designed to feature the elements of a European Tavern or Pub. It has succeeded well in replicating that feel. It offers the best of both American and European cuisine. The group, which also has Taverns in Hampton & Fredericksburg, features unique beverage offering with an extensive selection of draughts from around the world. In my opinion they have completely succeeded in their goal of providing atmosphere, design, cuisine and comfort. I can't wait to return and try the Corned Beef & Cabbage.

Literally perfect timing because no one was waiting before us and about 10-20 minutes later the waiting area became packed for that 3 o clock happy hour. Side note: happy hour is from 3-7, 7 days a week! The service was phenomenal, the whole staff was so nice and accommodating. We also had a baby with a stroller and they made sure we had plenty of room once we were seated at our table.
