Been there, drank that, I'll be back, again, and again, and again, and again. Came in randomly one Friday and Shelly remembered my order the next week.

Okay - if you like hole in the wall, dive bars - this is a good one! My girlfriend and I go here often. The drinks are ALWAYS cheap and strong. There is a jukebox to play some tunes, plenty of T.V.'s (that they will totally let you turn to Saturday Night Live on Saturdays) and there are plenty of things to keep you entertained while getting inebriated. They have Golden Tee, darts, pinball, bar-top video games, pool, etc. If you're hungry, they will fix you something greasy to eat. Best of all - my friend Dena and I are there! That's worth five stars in itself!

    Snack stand, great idea.

Our server was attentive and quick to help us find recommendations. We ordered their beer battered fish and chips that came out fresh and crispy! That's the best combo. The other entree we ordered was the black and bleu burger (I'm a huge bleu cheese lover) and the crumbles added the perfect contrast with the savory patty. Also, those sweet potato fries are to die for and I couldn't stop eating them! We went on Friday when they had live music, so it created a nice cozy feel for really anyone that wants an enjoyable night out with some good eats!

Unfortunately, the experience fell far short of expectations from the start. Our reservation was at 5:45 PM, and after nearly two hours, we left at 7:30 PM without ever receiving our entrees, and some of our drinks never arrived either. What made matters more frustrating was the lack of communication. Our server came back 3 times to tell us they were out of ingredients for drinks we had ordered, but never offered alternatives or clarified what was available, leaving us stuck and repeatedly restarting the process. We were never checked on and he only came by to tell us our food wasn't ready or they couldn't make what we ordered. To make matters worse, several tables seated around us, many with larger parties were fully served, finished their meals, and left while we were still waiting. It was incredibly discouraging and made us feel completely overlooked. Overall, this experience was extremely frustrating, poorly managed, and not at all what we expected. We will not be returning.

The last time I set foot inside their Pleasure House Rd location was at least 10 years ago. I celebrated my birthday there as my friends were kind enough to take me out. It was a Sunday morning and I sought out a place that offered brunch. I noticed 1608 was open and decided to head over, especially since I haven't visited them in ages. When I walked in, I noticed their dining room is dimly lit - much darker than I remember. I was greeted immediately by a kind hostess and she proceeded to sit me at a nearby table and provided me with menus (one food, one alcohol). I took my time looking over the food menu, and in the meantime I ordered a pint of Center of the Universe's Bald Irishman and a bottle of Boylan's Black Cherry soda (they do not have a soda fountain). What made this visit memorable was that 1608's bartender, Hunter, was an old acquaintance from back in my restaurant days. He spotted me and came over to say hi. After my meal, I continued to catch up with him at the bar. His presence made a pleasant experience even more fantastic. I thought I was hungry, so I ordered 2 dishes - Smoked Ham Fried Rice and the Breakfast Burrito. According to Hunter, every item is made fresh in house. After biting into each, you could tell that's true. Both the fried rice and burrito were delicious and boasted lots of flavor. Although I prefer my fried rice a bit simpler (if you give me just garlic fried rice, I am SET), 1608's fried rice (veggies, garlic, soy, basmati rice, 2 runny eggs, smoked ham) had a lot going on, which made for a flavorful dish. I liked the rice and the burrito (Korean style fried chicken breast, scrambled eggs, cilantro lime, cheddar, pico de gallo) a lot. I didn't finish either because it was a lot of food (I really thought I was hungry, haha). But these leftovers turned into a fantastic dinner later on. 1608 looked clean and organized, although I thought it was a little too dark inside, at least for brunch service. That's not a dealbreaker since everything from the food to the service was as excellent as I remember. I hope to return soon with my mom. Regardless, I'll find my way back eventually. Thank you, 1608 Crafthouse! And great seeing you again, Hunter! JV

Each time I drive south on Kempsville Road I have tried to locate it but failed. Today after visiting my favorite ice cream spot I decided on an early dinner and set my GPS for the restaurant's address. To my surprise it was extremely visible, sitting right at the entrance to Kemps River Crossing Shopping Center. Turn into the entrance from Kempsville Road and you'll see it sitting directly on the right. It was early. So we were able to immediately get a comfortable table and extremely prompt service. Our server remembered all my special needs. She answered my fiend's questions about her preferred wine choice. Our drinks were served very quickly. The menu was extremely interesting. There were different sections for differing tastes. The Lunch/Dinner Menu has sections for Sandwiches, Soups & Salads, Small Plates, Signature Burgers, Tavern Pizza & European Comfort Foods. The latter was where my interest lay. It was a really hard choice since I could easily have ordered many of the dishes on the menu. How could I choose between the British, German & Irish entrees? After much agonizing I finally chose German. My Jägerschnitzel, a German classic, consisted of hand-flattened pork loin fried and topped with traditional onion and mushroom gravy. It was served with kraut, warm potato salad, and green beans. The large portions were perfectly prepared. I was pleased with the choice. My friend ordered the other dish I had considered: Magners® Corned Beef & Beer Braised Cabbage which consisted of Magners® cider marinated USDA corned beef brisket, slow-cooked and thinly sliced in house, paired with braised cabbage and bacon, chive whipped potatoes, and whole carrots. This will be my choice the next time I visit. The food came very quickly. In fact, too quick. I like a little time to linger over my cocktail before the food arrives. I've now learned that next time I'll wait a little longer to give the server my order. Park Lane Tavern exuded the air of a happy place. I'm not quite sure how to describe it. It's a cross between a restaurant, tavern or very large comfortable diner. The closest restaurant I've found to this was a large cozy similar type establishment on the Jersey Shore, which was obviously a hangout for locals in the off season. The only thing missing at Park Lane was their roaring fire. But Park Lane has the better menu choices. There are distinctively different sections. We were in a section that consisted of regular tables and chairs, which is ideal for those of us with bad backs and titanium knees. :). But there were no televisions in the area. There were sections of high top tables, booths and large inviting looking bars. Televisions showing sports were visible in most sections. I'd like to try one of the different sections closer to the bar rather than to be immediately taken to the more comfortable section, obviously their section in which to seat people my age.:) After dinner I did a little research on the tavern. The establishment was designed to feature the elements of a European Tavern or Pub. It has succeeded well in replicating that feel. It offers the best of both American and European cuisine. The group, which also has Taverns in Hampton & Fredericksburg, features unique beverage offering with an extensive selection of draughts from around the world. In my opinion they have completely succeeded in their goal of providing atmosphere, design, cuisine and comfort. I can't wait to return and try the Corned Beef & Cabbage.

5 stars - May 14, 2026 - Virginia Beach, VA…read more Stopped by The Atlantic during happy hour and this place absolutely lived up to the hype. Between the atmosphere, service, location, pricing, and quality of the food, this was an easy 5-star experience for me. It's only about a block from the beach, and to top it off they offer complimentary valet parking, which was a huge plus in the Virginia Beach area. We ordered the happy hour raw oysters ($12 for 12) and the "Oysters Rock" ($12 for 12), and both were outstanding. The Oysters Rock were very similar to Oysters Rockefeller and were perfectly done -- rich, flavorful, and cooked just right without overpowering the oyster itself. The East Coast oysters on the half shell were also excellent. I'm not exactly sure where on the East Coast they were sourced from, but they were a good size with deep cups and loaded with oyster liquor -- fresh, clean, and briny in the best way possible. The drinks were one of the biggest surprises. A generous-sized martini for $4 and a large mojito for $4? In a nice restaurant this close to the beach? That's almost unheard of these days. The well rum was only $2 and the well gin was $4. Incredible happy hour prices all around. The hush puppies ($20 for two orders) were very good too, although I would've liked a little more crab in them. The only real markdown of the meal was the Hamachi sashimi/yellowtail ($12 happy hour price). It tasted fine, but the portion was definitely on the small side and didn't really feel worth the price compared to everything else we ordered. We also tried the calamari ($12), shrimp flatbread ($9), and elote ($14), and overall the food quality across the board was very solid. Service from Leanon was excellent -- friendly, attentive, and professional throughout the meal. I live in California but travel to Virginia Beach frequently, and this place has officially moved near the top of my must-return list every time I'm in town. Great seafood, great vibe, amazing happy hour pricing, and a perfect beach-area location. Hard to beat.
