She had been to this Taste numerous times, as well as to some of their other locations in Virginia Beach and Norfolk. Our visit was for a late breakfast/early lunch on a Sunday morning in mid-April, 2023. For a first-timer, I found the layout of the store/restaurant to be a tad confusing. When you enter, there's a wide variety of take-out items -- refrigerated packaged sandwiches, salads, juices, bakery items, wines, pantry items, and more. My daughter thankfully directed us to the counter where we could order fresh sandwiches, salads, and soups. I ordered the Thai Salad ($12.99), which features house-roasted chicken breast, red cabbage, shredded carrots, cucumber, roasted red peppers, and crushed peanuts on romaine with a Thai peanut vinaigrette and topped with crunchy noodles. It's served in an eco-friendly bowl with a bread end. My daughter ordered a Princess Anne Signature Sandwich ($8.99). This is a meatless sandwich which features Havarti cheese, avocado, roasted red peppers, romaine, tomato, and roasted red pepper aioli on multigrain bread. We both also "made it a meal", which added a small bag of Route 66 chips and Boylan's fountain drink for an additional $3.99 each. Food quality. 5/5. Our food tasted fresh, and was very tasty. The quantity was also good. I had leftover salad for lunch the next day and my daughter had half of her sandwich. Atmosphere. 4/5. The restaurant/shop is large, with plentiful seating on the 2nd floor. As mentioned, it is a bit confusing with options for eating in or take out. Tables were clean, as was the restroom. Service was fast and efficient. Value. (3/5). We found the restaurant to be a bit a expensive for a sandwich or salad, and even more once you add chips and a drink. However, the quality of the ingredients used was good as were the portions. Parking was also easy on a Sunday morning in April. I could imagine though that it might be tight in the summer. We had lunch at Taste on Shore Drive. It is their flagship location and it's huge. It was a beautiful day and we sat outside where there was plenty shaded seating. Not only is it a very nice sandwich shop but has a grab and go section , gifts, assorted wines, beer, and all kids of delicious food (dinners, snacks, cheeses, deserts etc) to take home. I my favorite and go to sandwich is the Northennder but today I tried something different, the Inlet. Everything is good so you can't go wrong. The kids got Turkey bento boxes They have a rewards program and the first cashier did not ask me for my number and I forgot as my grandkids were in a mad rush to play outside in the fenced in yard. My go-to sandwich is always the Virginian, which is a signature sandwich made with prosciutto, turkey, baked ham, provolone, romaine lettuce, tomato and banana peppers on ciabatta bread! It's simply perfection! I also purchase the Tortellini Salad to go with it which is also just as great. My daughter always builds her own sandwich which consists of meat, cheese and lettuce on ciabatta bread, simple but very tasty. I tried the Chicken Pot Pie Soup for the first time and it was different due to the slight sour taste but very delicious. It consisted of pot pie ingredients just without the crust but it was great! First time here and the food and ambiance was great! I ordered the BYO sandwich and got blackened tuna salad, on French bread, lettuce , cheese , onions, and house dressing on the side. I loved it! The house dressing made me want it in the bottle. Now for a beautiful Sunday morning, the wait time was long-- 30 mins when we arrived and about 45-50 minutes by the time the crowd started. We sat outside and it was nice and pretty clean (it rained the day before so a little muddy but not too bad). The Taste Unlimited on Shore Drive at First Court Road is always packed. It's a long time "go to" spot for those of us living in the Shore Drive corridor. Expansion a number of years ago has added to the lure. Upstairs & outdoor seating is now available, although a large part of outdoor seating has now been overrun by Christmas tree sales. Outside is an unaffiliated booth where local fresh fruits & vegetables are sold in season. I consider them to be a bit overpriced. Entrance is easy via First Court Road. But parking can be a problem, especially in the summer. The shop is clean, airy and appealing. One can be in and out in a short period of time if you pick up a preprepared sandwich or items such as their yummy quart containers of Brunswick Stew. Ordering at the counter can be much longer, especially if they are super busy. I must admit that I'm not terribly impressed by the sandwiches. I believe the problem is the bread and condiments because they sound very appetizing on the menu. Available for bulk purchase in the deli cooler are a plethora of salads & entree choices. The Curry Chicken Salad is awesome and my favorite. The few grocery aisles contain an eclectic collection of jellies, crackers and such that could add to your sandwich or salad choices. They are pricey. Catering is a specialty. Their boxed lunches for a club event can't be beat. And did I mention that they also offer a selection of bottled wines? Everything you could want for a nice afternoon picnic is available is one location. During the summer, Friday late afternoon features food with live music outside. Once begun, it immediately became a popular event. Delivery is available except on the weekend. Taste has helped me when I was sick and without prepared food. During my most recent visit, I tried the summer curry salad with chicken and their signature lemonade--an extremely delicious combination! Their berry sorbet is always a classic favorite as well!
