Pendulum Fine Meats is a butcher shop first that just happens to offer food. I wanted a charcuterie board which I found out is a problem because they make them to order in advance. They don't make charcuterie boards on the spot, you have to order them 24 hours in advance. So I just ordered some meat and made the best of it. In the end it was great. There is all kinds of meat, cheese, lunch meat and things to go with them like bread, nuts, honey, etc. They also have a decent craft beer selection. The service was exceptional except for the charcuterie hiccup. The young lady who was cutting my meat and I were having some communication problems. Not because we spoke a different language, but because I was kind of asking for something off script. In my ignorance of visiting here for the first time, I didn't know the rules. I will know for next time. So my overall impression as a first timer is a 3.5 stars, but will round up to 4 because the other patrons were having a great experience.

Pendulum is truly a gem. It quickly jumped up to one of my favorite spots for lunch in all of Hampton Roads, but definitely in Norfolk. I do love the quaint feel of Ghent in general, but love this specific spot that is just a bit off the main road. They do have their own parking lot, which in theory, is wildly convenient but it is often full. We came on a Friday for lunch and it was definitely busy but we were able to snag a great table outside to enjoy the weather. They offer some great draft beers, wine and house sangria. The sangria was delicious and refreshing. Food was superb. Truly incredible. Both sandwiches that we had (The Butcher and the Cuban) were 10/10 and would absolutely order again. Fries were also phenomenal.

Almost forgot to take a photo because we couldn't wait to dig in. The Shepherd burger in the front, house burger in the back.

Pendulum is an amazing neighborhood butcher that also has PHENOMENAL sandwiches. It's a favorite lunch spot I go to whenever I can. it boasts an impressive menu of burgers and sandwiches in addiction to the butcher counter staples and any meat cut you can think of, homemade sausages, and interesting products like tinned fishes, lard, rilette, and local goodies. Today we tried the house burger and The Shepherd, a lamb burger. Both were delicious and on par with the other sandwiches we've had there. The star are the house fries that come with a savory aioli. Honestly, nothing here is a bad choice!

Butcher shops with amazing lunch options! Arrived here on a Monday and didn't have a long line + the employees were very friendly. They have the menu in chalk when you first walk in. Remember, this is a butcher shop sk you can also just come in and order your quality meats. A good variety. I got the Big Tex with a salad. Brisket was tender and melt in your mouth - exactly what you'd want in your brisket. Sauces and toppings complimented each other really well. Highly recommend. They have a good selections of beers, wines, and non alcoholic drinks - you can pay for everything upfront or after you finish eating or drinking. Interior is nice and rustic. Seating available but it seems more like a take it to go type of place. It's right off Colley Ave so it walking distance to other restaurants, shops, and things to do.

This place is always such a treat whenever I get the chance to visit. Never have had a bad experience here. The staff is super nice, the building is cozy, food is in delectable- just make sure to get there before their garlic aioli runs out!

Upon arrival you wouldn't expect a front store inside with the home vibes it gives. But the outside definitely mimics the inside. Dana, her husband and staff are super friendly and make you feel comfortable like you're at home. Took the sausage making class with my husband and would recommend the class to everyone. It was hands on but not overwhelming. Absolutely loved the tasting of the sausage meat paired with the made from scratch bread. It was definitely a great class to learn something new to try at home. Thanks again for having us!

This is one of Norfolk's gems. This butcher shop also doubles as a luncheonette throughout the week and I loveee it. The staff are super friendly and charming, there's a large array of cool products to try like juices teas and wine. There are also homemade desserts that are always in rotation (one of my faves is the apple cheesecake). My favorite thing to order is The Shepard, which is a Lamb Burger that has goat cheese, peppers and fresh greens. I also love their fries that come with the most amazing garlic aioli. Coming here is always a mini adventure as there's so many books and signs etc. to look at and browse as you wait for your food. They also sell pre-made pasta dough sauce, pepperoni and cheese which is perfect for a build your own pizza night with your family and friends.

The Butcher- I don't really even like roast beef and this was the best sandwich I've ever had. Don't walk, run.

A brief view of the outside seating...it looked like fun!

Amazing roast beef sandwich...great service...great selection of meats! We bought Serrano ham, fresh ground beef from local cows, guanciale, fresh baked bread sourdough. Great experience and service! Thank you! The prices are worth the select cuts of meats! The atmosphere was calm cool and I love the music! Everyone seems so helpful no matter what we had to ask! I wish every restaurant and service industry would be as in tune with true service! You cannot beat excellent and I think they did!

The burgers are just awesome and consistently delicious and made well and cooked perfectly. Ordered the cleaver burger with The fries are chef's kiss with perfect and the garlic dip aioli is great for dipping and on the burger. The price has gone up some but that's just across the board.

I selected The Veil as the spot for my UYE and enjoyed an evening of talking shop with the great J David H. while we drank those great beers. The Veil is a comfortable spot in the Railroad District and we were sitting in their dining area on the ground floor. Big tables and plenty of room this afternoon. Which we needed because that burger and fries needed elbow room to enjoy. I'd only suggest a pump-based ketchup dispenser as the packet thing is tedious. They opened here in 2019 - well after I was done with my projects in Virginia Beach and Chesapeake - transforming this three-story space into a family-friendly taproom and restaurant. The full kitchen specializes in indulgent smashburgers and Neapolitan-style pizzas that pair perfectly with the brewery's bold stouts, hazy IPAs, and seasonal sours. We didn't have the opportunity to enjoy the Only You Bar & Lounge upstairs. Maybe that's the next visit to Hampton Roads. [Round number review 1500 in Virginia - 911 of 2025 - 24467 overall]

I only experienced the downstairs on my visit with Yelp friend Bruce K. The Happy Hour pricing was a draw as well as stellar reviews. Parking in their own smallish lot on a weekday was no problem. They also have free off street parking too! No debris in sight on my walk up. The signage is the building itself which is darn cool. They also offer outdoor seating. I started off with a Blend which is a Pale and Pilsner if I recall and it was tasty. The counter service was excellent. You can cash tip or card. Customers can also leave a tab open. The seating is wood bench type that comfortably seats six. The aesthetics of the first floor is high ceilings, concrete floors and walls. The kitchen has a garage door over the front. The space was previously a restaurant, but before may have been a factory, or warehouse. Only negative was music was a bit elevated for talking. Prior to Happy Hour concluding I ordered a $6 on special smash burger that comes with fries. No other dudes are available. The regular price is $12, so this is a deal friends. In about 20 minutes burgers and fries were delivered to the table. The look was downright amazing, so pretty much knew this bad boy was gonna be a hitter. The burger comes with double patty, cheese, Dukes mayo, lettuce a pickle. If something else I'm sorry I forgot. The first bite was phenomenal! Fresh bread, perfectly cooked 80/20 beef which was not greasy. The construction was a masterpiece. The thin fries were cooked crispy and seasoned well, yum! Honestly I could eat that burger everyday. The whole experience was exceptional and worthy of a full 5. Totally recommend checking The Veil Brewing out.

I went on a Sunday around 6:30pm. It wasn't crowded, but there was still a good crowd if that makes sense. It felt lively without being packed. Their drink selection is great. They have plenty of beer options, but also serve wine, seltzers, cider, and non alcoholic drinks, which I really appreciate since I'm not much of a beer person. I ordered the frozen rosé slushie in wild raspberry and it was strong. I also had the black cherry fruited cider, which was delicious. For food, I ordered The Hive pizza and it was excellent. The crust was thin-ish and tasted homemade, and the ingredients were clearly high quality. No complaints at all. Service was friendly and efficient, and the bathrooms were very clean. Random detail, but the toilet paper was noticeably better quality than what you usually find in bars. It was not plush, but strong and not paper thin. There is also a number of different beers, seltzers, IPAs, and wines to try. Tonight I had the White Cranberry Sangria from Water's Edge Winery (also in Norfolk) and the Downeast Black Cherry! While both were really good, I prefer the Downeast because it was sparkling and just more refreshing. We also had the bacon Gouda pizza and the Hive pizza with hot honey. Both were great! I had never had a hot honey pizza but would definitely get it again! Tonight was trivia night and they had a good size crowd come out. I like that you could actually hear the questions despite so many people. A lot of times I can barely hear! Also inside the same place is Voyager Coffee. They're only open 7-4. I would love to give them a try. Oh and Elation does offer military discount but only on their to-go beers! The ONLY reason I did not give Elation five star is because I wish they had actual servers. You have to go up to the counter to order each time, and the lines get pretty long. Being able to order from the table, even if from a QR code where you could order and pay online would be a plus. Lastly, for such a large space, the parking lot is tiny. You'd either have to find street parking or there is additional parking at the CEO building on Colley.

Every dinner I've had has been a bit lackluster. Not bad, but not great or memorable either. I tried the blackened chicken tacos this week which were a bit dry and I found the cucumber salad a strange side dish for tacos. Also had a smash burger which was overcooked.
