Service is usually friendly here, just be prepared to wait in line. It does get busy. The restaurant is clean and I'm pretty sure all their locations have a patio option (at least Hilltop does). Who doesn't love that? The only bummer is the cost. It's on the bougie end of sandwiches. With that said, the Princess Anne sandwich (without aioli) is my favorite. The ingredients are fresh, flavorful, and vegetarian! I suggest trying it on different breads too. You really can't go wrong. To wash it all down, try their Morning Dew smoothie. It's so, so good. When ordering we have a new employee that is new to the area and a few of us were telling her all about Taste and how good it is, high quality, etc etc. After eating everyone said their sandwich was just ok. No one raved. I ate 1/2 of 2 different sandwiches. The Lynnhaven and The Bayville. The Lynnhaven is roasted chicken breast, pimento cheese, bacon, spinach, tomato and mayo. The chicken had no flavor and was very dry. The sandwich itself did not have a lot of flavor. I couldn't even taste the pimento cheese and they call it Sassy Southern Pimento Cheese. I would hope it had more flavor or had more of it on the sandwich. That sandwich is $12.50. The Bayville is roast beef, havarti, hot house dressing on French bread. That sandwich is $9.00 It was also just ok. Not a lot of flavor or meat and cheese. Someone in the office ordered the Chicken Caeser Wrap and she said it fell apart when she picked it up. The other person said there was hardly any chicken in her Chicken Caeser Wrap and it also fell apart. None of us made it a meal because it's an extra $4 for a drink and chips or an apple. Very pricy for the quality and the taste. Taste is a staple in Hampton Roads so I hope this was a random situation and they do well but personally if I had paid for this I would have been more unhappy. There is too much competition for me to actually spend my money there for food that is bland and just ok. I forgot to mention that they did not mess up a single sandwich. I had the Korean wrap yesterday. It was not very good. The seasoning on it was hot and it had no flavor. Putting pepper on something does not give it flavor. The service was so-so. The girl at the register did not ask if I wanted a drink. I had assumed a girl would come with the meal for the price I paid. It did not, and I definitely needed something for a wrap. The taste was good, but the sandwich only had one thin slice of the roast beef and they forgot to put on the provolone cheese - making an already skimpy sandwich ever thinner. Came here with the hubby before we did some shopping. He got a sandwich and I settled on the winter farm stand salad with a watermelon crunchy water. The water was interesting, but I really liked it. The salad was amazing. The whipped goat cheese was so delightful. I could eat a whole bowl of that by itself. I actually want to go back and see if they sell little tubs of it. I need it all the time, on literally everything. The salad also had candied pecans, pears, beets, candied tangerines maybe, and tangerine dressing. It was so refreshing and amazing. We ordered at the counter and the lady was helpful and friendly. They had a cold refrigerated section of drinks to choose from or you could get a fountain drink of boylans soda. I love boylans, but I wanted a fancy refrigerated drink so I chose crunchy water. It intrigued me. I liked it. We ordered and paid and then got our little number thing and went to find a table. They brought our food to us shortly. The cafe was so cutely decorated and was clean. I can't wait to come back here. I need tons more of that whipped goat cheese in my life. read more

I've been to other Taste locations many times, but never the Laskin Rd location. Every person we encountered at this location acted like we were bothering them. Went to the front counter to order. Seemed like the obvious place. Nope. A woman behind the counter, in a very annoyed voice, asked if we'd ordered yet. We said no and she told us we needed to order at the side counter. Both my daughter and I looked at each other with surprise because she was so rude and it made us feel like we had done something wrong. So we go to the side counter, where an older woman waits on us and again she was less than friendly, and we felt like we were interrupting her in some way. Interestingly enough, minutes after we had been told not to order at the front, two employees came up and started taking other people's orders there. Then we were waiting at the table for our order and a different woman brought it out to us and informed us that one of the things we had with our meal was not available so they had swapped it out for something else and even she was rather abrupt with us. There was no, "Sorry we didn't have that," or anything like that. What is up with the employees here? We were nothing but polite as always and honestly, I was sorry that I left the 25% tip. It just seems like everyone there needed an attitude adjustment today. And I am not exaggerating... Every. Single. Employee. we encountered was this way. I should say that it was not at all busy. We had an early lunch and it was not busy at all so it can't be blamed on that. Our food was fine. I went to Taste and had an excellent hot Turkey sandwich a couple of weeks ago. Yesterday I went back, it was TERRIBLE! . It had cold scraps of turkey and the French bread was hard, cold and they turned the bread over so you couldn't see it was the end of the loaf!!!! I went with a friend today to grab some quick dinner. We grabbed our cups and went to get lids and straws and whatever. It was my first time ever coming to taste and therefore unfamiliar with the layout, like where there may be other trashcans besides the ones right next to the drink fountains. I saw three trash bins with the two outer ones saying closed and the one in the middle said nothing. Naturally, I threw my straw and lemon into the trashcan unlabeled. Unaware that there were other trashcans to use, because I have never been there before. I used it and this elder lady with medium brown, shoulder length hair, that im guessing is the assistant manager or something came up with a disgusting passive aggressive tone and literally scolded me in front of everybody. I told her "it doesn't say closed on the middle bin." Never been there before had no idea I was supposed to use another trashcan. She continues yelling, then proceeds to say "how come everybody does that!" Clearly, I am not the only one who has done this. Regardless, I have never in my life been scolded like that by some random restaurant worker. If I was spoken to like a person I would've offered to throw the trash bag out myself. I have worked in the service industry for 8 years and know how frustrating customers can be and have never spoken to someone with such a disgusting, demeaning attitude. Its disappointing when you constantly pay extra for extra dressing or cheese or whatever and don't get it. Its even more disappointing when you find out after you get home and you can't do anything about it. My wife and I have attempted to keep coming back to get salads or sandwiches on a regular basis. Even during the pandemic, we tried. But on a regular basis, we have paid extra for more goat cheese or dressing and either recieved nothing or the wrong cheese or dressings. As I can read through other reviews, this has been an issue here for a while. We have complained before. But nothing has changed. Its very disappointing because we want to support a local business. I like Taste, I'm having lunch right now with my best friend. I haven't been here in a while so I decided to go with Potato soup because they were out of the Roasted Red Gouda soup even though they still had it listed on "today's soups." I got the Virginian sandwich and that was okay. My soup also tasted bland and didn't have much of flavor. However, I love their black cherry soda which is my favorite. This was my first time trying their food. My daughter got the Virginian sandwich while I got the Caesar salad. Both were really good. However, they charged 0.49 cents to add mayonnaise on my daughters sandwich. I get charging for meat or cheese but for sauce? She also took away the tomato's and banana peppers so it seemed like an excessive fee. But when we got home they didn't even add the Mayo so we had to add our own. read more

It is the most perfect option in the area for a casual meal. The spot is new, cozy and clean. People is very friendly and the customer service is amazing. The food is delicious, all kind of sandwiches, and other options as salads, bakery, ice creams are available to eat there or picking up. I am a huge fan of the Princess Anne sandwich with extra sauce, their delicious cookies are highly recommended and their healthy but super savoury ice cream. The price is very reasonable. They also have a shop plenty of fancy healthy good food and wines. Hiltop is a very good and safe area. Taste option is the healthier casual quicker option I can definetly recommend. My family and I love Taste! We are here at least once a week. The Northender is normally my go to sandwich it's amazing, but I tried the Turkey and Stuffing sandwich today and it was really good. Our wedding was at The Chrysler Museum in Norfolk, VA on August 20th 2022. We had started to plan our wedding April of 2021 so we had a lot of time to plan and pay for everything before the wedding. Taste was our first choice on the vendor list and we were so thankful for them because right from the get go they were able to help break down the pricing, helping us pick out our food for our guest, the taste testing was absolutely amazing as well! Our wedding was completely taken care of as they took care of changing over the venue from the ceremony to the reception and catered to all of our guest very professionally. I know all of our guest were highly impressed by them as made the change over look effortless and really took care of us all night long as the wedding couple making plates and getting drinks for us. Not to mention making plates for later and packing all of our leftovers and we really didn't have to do anything. They took care of our bars and had very professional bar tenders make all of our drinks for all of our guest. I will say you have to book Taste (and work with Amanda she's the best) for your wedding. We had 103 guest attend and everyone complimented us about the quality of the food served, drinks and service they received as our guest. read more

Sigh.... I spent $16 on a chicken salad wrap and a fountain drink. That's before a tip and without getting sit-down service. Is that ridiculous or is this just 2019? It feels painful, but I keep coming back again and again over the years so I have a hard time giving them less than 4 stars. If someone asks if I recommend Taste- I always have an enthusiastic "yes!" The prices are way too much for me to make this a go-to spot to visit knowing that I can get a hot meal with sit down service for the same price somewhere else- especially if I'm just looking for a sandwich. The good news is, I haven't tried something I didn't like at Taste Unlimited. Things are always fresh and made to order. Their menu is made up of wraps, salads, soups, and sandwiches. I even like their ordering process where they separate the ordering process from pick up. They always have a great retail selection of gift-able unique snacks to browse while you wait for your food. Another way they add value to their experience is by offering sustainable touches, like paper straws and greenware plastic cups made from plants. I smile when I see these touches and it is definitely one reason why I keep returning to taste every so often, knowing this is also one reason why it is out of my budget to return frequently. Going green comes with a pricetag! Their desserts are delicious (assorted cookies and bars mostly) )and they also have awesome catering options. When I was in charge of coordinating staff events at my last company, no one ever complained when I chose Taste. Their catering coordinators were also always easy to work with. read more

Todays trip to the taste unlimited at hilltop reminded me why I stopped going. I ordered a sandwich and without fail, they didn't include all the ingredients I paid for. And the sandwiches just dont taste that good - especially not for $12.50. I think the ingredients are too cold, the flavors are flat, and the gf bread is pretty bad. Even the bacon lacks flavor. Furthermore, the hilltop store location smells like bleach - just not appetizing. And although I was the only person in line, it took over 10 minutes for my one sandwich. I just enjoyed an absolutely fabulous Thai Salad at Taste. It was filled with fresh greens, diced chicken and crunchy noodles and a delicious spicy peanut dressing. The ambiance at the restaurant was lovely and they had all kinds of different beverages you don't normally find elsewhere along with all kinds of fresh homemade desserts and goodies to take on your next picnic. I entered the restaurant at around 12 on a saturday and my order was taken within a few minutes. The over all restaurant was very noisy but to be expected. After ordering I waited over 30 minute for a single sandwich after seeing people who order after me get their food before me. At around 30 minutes i asked one of the staff about the wait and she responded extremely rudely with a lot of attitude that the wait was 30 minutes. Would have been nice to know before i ordered in order to not waste my time. The make your own salad is gigantic. I doubt anyone can eat it in one sitting. I ate less than 1/3 and was starving. I think I won't be doing that again - it was about $13 and I def. ate my fill but there is just something that I can't stand about wasting that much food - if I were able to eat it that would be one thing - but knowing that I spent $13 for over half a salad I won't be able to eat gives me an eye twitch. Met a gal friend there and had a good experience. The salad was very good - the dressing was good - and I am a big fan of being able to select your own ingredients in salads (I love this at Y Not Pizza as well) but as mentioned, it's just too big so I won't be doing it again. If I need salad I'll either go somewhere else or I'll get one of their pre-made ones. I'll probably stick to the soups and sandwiches here which are AMAZING. This location wasn't crowded, at least not while I was there, and has plenty of parking. I love the little Hilltop location anyway with all the shopping. It's near The Melting Pot and Fire and Vine just for navigational reference. It's the same fare as any other Taste but I like the "grand entrance" with the two big palm trees. Very cute. I have never felt so invisible in a eating establishment. Upon my arrival to Taste I was excited, because the sandwiches and soups are delicious and they have a great variety of in house treats. I wish the customer service was the same. I walked in and was instructed to get my order taking at another register , when I get to the register the cashier walks away as if im not standing there and once she seen another person behind me is when she decides to greet me. I went to Taste for lunch during the week and it was absolutely packed. Nevertheless, this particular location had ample seating and we had no trouble finding a table despite the crowds. My boyfriend ordered their special sandwich of the summer, an Italian on sundried tomato focaccia, and I ended up ordering a custom sandwich, baked ham on French bread with Swiss cheese, arugula, tomato, bacon, and house dressing. In comparison to many sandwich shops I have frequented that offer the choice to create your own sandwich, Taste offers an ample selection of toppings, cheese, meat, bread, and spreads. This was both wonderful and a bit overwhelming, as it was my first time there and crowded. Overall, Taste uses very high-quality ingredients and bread to craft delicious sandwiches.
