I wish I could give more stars but it just wasn't what it used to be. This review is based on a To Go Order for an office. About 9 sandwiches. When ordering we have a new employee that is new to the area and a few of us were telling her all about Taste and how good it is, high quality, etc etc. After eating everyone said their sandwich was just ok. No one raved. I ate 1/2 of 2 different sandwiches. The Lynnhaven and The Bayville. The Lynnhaven is roasted chicken breast, pimento cheese, bacon, spinach, tomato and mayo. The chicken had no flavor and was very dry. The sandwich itself did not have a lot of flavor. I couldn't even taste the pimento cheese and they call it Sassy Southern Pimento Cheese. I would hope it had more flavor or had more of it on the sandwich. That sandwich is $12.50. The Bayville is roast beef, havarti, hot house dressing on French bread. That sandwich is $9.00 It was also just ok. Not a lot of flavor or meat and cheese. Someone in the office ordered the Chicken Caeser Wrap and she said it fell apart when she picked it up. The other person said there was hardly any chicken in her Chicken Caeser Wrap and it also fell apart. None of us made it a meal because it's an extra $4 for a drink and chips or an apple. Very pricy for the quality and the taste. Taste is a staple in Hampton Roads so I hope this was a random situation and they do well but personally if I had paid for this I would have been more unhappy. There is too much competition for me to actually spend my money there for food that is bland and just ok. I forgot to mention that they did not mess up a single sandwich. Nothing was forgotten or wrong on our order. That was a plus.

    Peter's Pick

Ordered the May-June Peter's Pick sandwich. The taste was good, but the sandwich only had one thin slice of the roast beef and they forgot to put on the provolone cheese - making an already skimpy sandwich ever thinner. Have been coming to Taste for years but lately the portion size has just not been worth the cost. Not sure if I'll return after this experience.

Came here with the hubby before we did some shopping. He got a sandwich and I settled on the winter farm stand salad with a watermelon crunchy water. The water was interesting, but I really liked it. The salad was amazing. The whipped goat cheese was so delightful. I could eat a whole bowl of that by itself. I actually want to go back and see if they sell little tubs of it. I need it all the time, on literally everything. The salad also had candied pecans, pears, beets, candied tangerines maybe, and tangerine dressing. It was so refreshing and amazing. We ordered at the counter and the lady was helpful and friendly. They had a cold refrigerated section of drinks to choose from or you could get a fountain drink of boylans soda. I love boylans, but I wanted a fancy refrigerated drink so I chose crunchy water. It intrigued me. I liked it. We ordered and paid and then got our little number thing and went to find a table. They brought our food to us shortly. The cafe was so cutely decorated and was clean. I can't wait to come back here. I need tons more of that whipped goat cheese in my life.

I will NEVER understand how this little bit of meat is worth the $10-15 you're paying per sandwich. Ordered the Virginian and removed the tomatoes and banana peppers. Was supposed to have prosciutto on it but mine did not. Had the smallest, thinnest piece of lettuce. Truly not worth the money

Great for Wine, Not for Dinner (Unfortunately) I don't know…read morewhy my Bestie and I keep doing this to ourselves -- we love Cooper's Hawk for the wine tastings, but every time we try to give dinner another chance... it ends the same way. After our tasting, we decided to sit down and order one of our longtime favorites: the short rib with mashed potatoes and vegetables. We hadn't had it in a few months because the last time was an epic fail, but we figured we'd give it another shot. As always, the pretzel bread and butter were a highlight -- that part never misses. The entrée, however, was another disappointment. The vegetables were noticeably undercooked -- still hard and crunchy -- and the dish came out with barely any sauce, even though I specifically asked for extra. For a short rib dish, you expect that rich, flavorful gravy to tie everything together... and it just wasn't there. A manager did come over after I pointed it out, and she genuinely tried to make it right, which I appreciated. We were offered another meal to take home, but at that point we were honestly just over it. To end on a positive note, I tried the Banoffee Pie for the first time (recommended by the manager), and it was actually really good -- rich, sweet, and worth trying. I also ordered their chocolate cake to go (which I usually love), but when I got home, it wasn't in the bag. I had to call for a refund, which they did handle -- but it just added to the overall frustration. At this point, it's become a pattern. When I first started coming here over a year ago, everything was consistently great. Lately, though, the dinner experience has been more miss than hit. We'll absolutely continue coming back for the wine tastings -- those are still top-tier. But for dinner? We're done trying.

We were the only patrons for much of our visit. My birthday daughter and I ordered wine sample flights and chatted up the owner. Wife shopped the gift area and picked out a nice bauble. The good: the owner was very engaging and told us about the wines (and wine slushies) they offer. We asked where the grapes came from and she explained that some came from Chile, some from California (I believe) and other places, and that she blends them here. (This would be expected with no attached vineyard.) The place was very clean, and the restrooms were easily accessible and spacious. The price of the flights was a mere $5 for six communion cup sized samples -- you choose 6 of I guess 12 - 15. Mulled wine is a welcome option on a winter day. The disappointing: While there is a good assortment of wines, and many were on the good side of okay, none stood out and said BUY A BOTTLE OF ME. The fruity sweet wines were VERY sweet, not really good for dessert wine or sipping. (Sorry.) But again, the reds especially were drinkable and pleasant. Verdict: a good stop if you need a break and a glass or two to go with your conversation. Just don't set expectations too high and you'll be fine.

In the summer I tend to gravitate toward lighter, sweeter wines, so the flight felt like the perfect choice for the day. Not surprisingly, my taste buds traveled straight to Italy. The Italian wines on the flight ended up being my favorites, with the standout being La Doria Moscato D'Asti. It was light, slightly bubbly, and perfectly balanced -- sweet but still refreshing. If you enjoy Moscato-style wines, this one was definitely the highlight of the tasting for me. The winery itself has a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere that makes it easy to settle in and enjoy a glass (or a flight). They also offer a selection of light bites if you want something to snack on while you're tasting. I ordered the house biscuits with jam and butter, which are made in-house, along with an order of fries. Both worked well as simple bites alongside the wine. If I had been with a group, I probably would have ordered the charcuterie board -- the one at the table next to me looked very generous and easily shareable. Service was friendly and welcoming, and since it wasn't overly crowded when I visited, it made for a relaxed afternoon tasting experience. Literally perfect timing because no one was waiting before us and about 10-20 minutes later the waiting area became packed for that 3 o clock happy hour. Side note: happy hour is from 3-7, 7 days a week! The service was phenomenal, the whole staff was so nice and accommodating. While we waited for our table, we were able to order a cocktail from one of the waitresses. We also had a baby with a stroller and they made sure we had plenty of room once we were seated at our table. The food was amazing, I'm a fan of cooked oyster but i decided to be a little spontaneous and try them raw. I was pleasantly surprised at how fresh and clean tasting these oysters were. It reminded me of eating sashimi. My wife and father in law had the lobster rolls, they both loved them! My son had the double cheeseburger from the happy hour menu, literally cannot beat this deal. $6 double cheeseburger with fries on the boardwalk is unimaginable lol. I had the Nashville hot chicken, which was good but maybe could've used a little more flavor. But the quality of the sandwich as a whole was spot on. I really don't have any complaints, this was the highlight of our day. My in laws live in Wisconsin but they travel a bunch and they said that these oysters were some of the best they had ever had.
