One of my favorite brunch spots. I had the biscuit egg benny for brunch with an Iced Lavender Latte. They no longer serve alcohol here at this restaurant. I am going to miss my sorbet mimosas. They were so good. The lavender latte is my be of my favorites. The service is fast and reliable. If you like farm to table style this is the place.

Stopped by Commune with some friends for brunch over the weekend. I haven't been here in probably a year or so. The hostess was sweet when we walked in and guided us to the bar tops. One thing about commune, is their seating is community. So odds are you'll sit with another party, unless you take the bar tops! I started with the iced peanut butter and honey latte with oat milk. What a great way to start my day. It was so tasty, and you can see the natural peanut butter they use in every sip. Highly recommend. We ordered the hash tots to share. They are fried sweet potato "tots" drizzled with local honey, served with honey mustard aioli. Incredible. We devoured them. The honey mustard aioli was to die for. I ordered the classic breakfast sandwich. A sausage patty, sunny side up egg with pimento cheese and greens on a brioche bun. Would absolutely order this again. Overall, I left feeling satisfied and so, so full. Can't wait to go back.

Farm to table establishment. Plenty of seating inside and outside for a casual potentially communal eating experience. Staff is super friendly and service is timely. Food is flavorful - vegetarian options. The portions are also plentiful.

Visited on a whim this morning when we stumbled upon open seats outside while riding our bikes past headed to a coffee shop down the road. It's been on the must try list for quite some time! I opted for the waffles and fried chicken, it was very good. First time having cornmeal waffles, while different they were great. The fried rice bowl was tasty and HUGE. The coffee and service were also on point. Not sure why we waited so long to try it...excellent! The ambience outside is nice however it's along a busy street so expect typical VB strip vibes.

a sweet potato bowl w/ pickled onions, mushrooms, topped with an egg over easy plus a side of fried boneless chicken thighs for brunch. you could taste the freshness in the sweet potato, but not all of the cuts were cooked all the way thru and chicken lacked seasoning. all i tasted was the oil that the chicken might've soaked up and the fat that the chicken already holds. the sweet potato bowl was good to have to offset the grease i guess. overall, food service was great. always a good time eating near the beach, but not close enough to enjoy scenery or to be by the boardwalk. just a few blocks from the Vibe District. the restaurant is only so big and seating is pretty scarce. they have outdoor seating, but that was pretty limited as well. otherwise, expect to be sitting near another party.

Stopped in for some brunch while walking our dog. Thankfully there was patio seating! The inside had a cool vide, but with our dog - we stuck to the patio. I have extensive allergies and I'm so grateful for the staff and kitchen talking through the menu with me. I was able to safely eat a number of items with only minor modifications. I got the cornmeal waffles and they were quite yummy. My husband got the friend chicken sandwich, which he enjoyed. We would gladly return.

Commune has been on my radar for awhile. I was attending an event nearby and my friends wanted to meet up for brunch before going and I suggested Commune since it was so close. - Parking - If you come early enough, you can snag a spot in their private lot shared with neighboring businesses or you can also find parking on the street. - TLC - The service at Commune seems to be a more shared experience, where we had a main server, but had other servers brought our food and take other requests. They were all really kind and sweet. - Noms & Sips - Yaupon matcha latte - I am familiar with yaupon after having lived in Savannah, where this medicinal plant used by Native Americans comes from. The latte was tasty, but a bit more grainy and earthy than what habitual matcha drinkers are used to, so FYI. Gold milk latte - My friends each ordered a golden milk latte, with different milks, but both slurped it up and expressed how they were tempted to order another because it was so delicious! Hash tots - this is a shareable dish! We ordered this dish thinking it was an app size, but the tots were huge, almost like a giant donut hole. The texture is interesting because it is both a soft and mashed-like texture, as well as shreds of sweet potatoes. It is served with this delicious sweet, mayo-like sauce. Not sure if I would order it again, only because it was so filling, and we barely had room for the three other dishes we ordered, but it was tasty! Farm grit bowl - I've never been a fan of collard greens, but all that changed at Commune! I'm also not usually a fan of grits either, but I would definitely order this again! It was comfort in a bowl with a little bit of fancy sprinkled in. The grits were nice and creamy, accompanied with a chicken sausage patty, topped with a poached egg, microgreens, a slice of watermelon radish and a generous helping of collard greens. Normally, the fumes of the vinegar that is used to cook down collard greens, go up my nose, which in turn, throws me off, so I've never really been a fan of the preparation at the majority of places. However, at Commune, I could have eaten an entire bowl's worth. I did taste the vinegar, but it wasn't as overpowering and just really paired well with the grits! So good. Cornmeal waffles - this is their interpretation of the chicken & waffle dish. The waffles were a lot more dense, and hearty since it was made with cornmeal, but I liked the grittiness and was definitely more filling. The chicken was battered and seasoned nicely and the fact that they used thigh meat was a bonus! The chicken was juicy! Biscuits & gravy - This was my least favorite dish, but it was still good. I felt like the biscuits were just a little flat and not as tall and puffy. It still tasted good, an egg makes everything better, and the salad added a nice healthy balance to a heavy plate. Overall, the vibe is stellar. Lots of wood and plants as decor, with art from a local Virginia artist D. Kane on the walls and his signature black and white design on their menus. This is a farm-to-table concept, cooked with produce grown in their garden out back. I've heard that the rest of the ingredients are sourced from as local as possible. This all means, it is a bit more pricey, but I would definitely return knowing that they are using quality ingredients and putting so much care. Enjoy, Friends and never stop exploring!

I will start with, I don't know if this place has any parking, but thankfully someone was pulling out from the side of the road and we were able to park there. So if parking is usually something that will hold you from going somewhere this place is probably not for you. But if you do not care and you're here to try a good brunch spot, this place has a pretty good size menu with multiple protein options, and I think I saw vegan option too. My favorite item is a beet latte I know sounds weird beets in a latte but it was so delicious. I went with my partner and daughter and we all agree that we will be going there again. The server was nice it's a small location it was a bit busy but I never felt like I wasn't getting what I needed. Again, if you're looking for something new to try and want to get out of your comfort zone. This place is it.

The place is faux trendy. The AC could not keep up. The employees seemed stressed and on edge the whole time. Sure it was busy but there were plenty of empty seats. The $20 eggs Benedict was just okay. The ham on it tasted off. Def wouldn't order that again. Food took 30 min to arrive even though I could see 3 chefs in the kitchen working fast. It's just bad vibes when the employees look like they hate their job.

Everything tasted extremely good! It was a little pricey but everything was very tasty. I will definitely be back it's a great vibe.

Came here for brunch on Easter Sunday and had a wonderful experience! This review actually sits at a 4.5/5 because adding honey to your tea is $1.50 and a side of bacon is $6.50, which I think is quite literal highway robbery. But, the food and service were very good. We started with the fruit fritters and didn't expect so many and for them to be so large, but were pleasantly surprised! The fresh cream was a lovely touch. I had a chai latte and my husband had a macchiato, both of which were very nice. For brunch, I got the Tidewater Mushroom benny and my husband had regular eggs Benedict. The flavor of mine was amazing. My husband's meal was also very delicious, though the ham didn't even keep one full day (as leftovers, not sure why). For a $65 meal, I would expect you could definitely add some other kind of sweetener to a chai latte, so that was disappointing (to have been told I could add honey....at $1.50 a scoop). The ambiance is simple and tasteful. We sat outside on a sunny day and that was lovely. I do wish their spot was closer to the ocean!!

Wanted to try someplace new before heading over to Plant House for a class and so glad we picked here. Like the name suggests they are communal tables and they had a full house. Loads of plants and the service and food were great. Ordered; Veggie Fritters Crispy Potato Bowl So tasty

Farm to table at the oceanfront. Private parking. Solid 4 overall, mostly because of the creative and diverse lunch menu appealing to my vegetarian friend. Fried rice bowl was heat hot, made with fresh ingredients, and very filling. Service was very friendly but tad on slow side. You may want to be forward if you're in a rush.

[Late review. Visited September 2025]…read more We visited Virginia Beach and found Esoteric due to its good reviews online. We reserved for an early dinner and we somehow were able to order items from the happy hour menu. We ordered wings from the Happy Hour menu along with cocktails. From the regular menu, we had poutine, black garlic caesar salad, and duck tacos. The food was delicious! The duck tacos were really amazing that I wish I had more space in my stomach to eat more. The poutine was amazing along with the wings. The cocktails were not as great as we hoped. The ambiance was great - quite modern and perfect for a laid back dinner. The service was okay. I think the staff was a little distracted that day.

Chill vibes, hipster/cool ambiance, delicious if not a bit pricy food, hit or miss service. Came here most recently to celebrate a combination of the end of the shutdown & date night on a Friday night round 8pm or so. Maybe should've gotten a table instead of sat at the bar. Service other times have been great during Last Meeting of the Day (their HH), specials nights (went during Wing & Whiskey Wednesday), & an after shifty cocktail but spending $100 between two people left a bit more to be desired hospitality wise. Like I said, hit or miss... sometimes you feel like you're bothering someone for a check other times they're pretty friendly. Food was tasty. $35 catch of the day was rockfish; cooked perfectly, on a bed of wild rice pilaf (?) & sautéed squash & apple. Licked that plate clean. Extra dirty gin martini, though I'd recommend ordering from their fun seasonal cocktail menu. My partner got the $19 chicken sammie with truffle fries with the house root beer. Rootbeer was flat so was taken off the check but had nothing but good things to say about the sando. Either way.. great for a chill but kinda fancy, IYKYK kind of experience.
