Stopped into Java Surf Cafe & Espresso Bar on a Saturday morning and ordered the Mediterranean Breakfast Sandwich on a bagel. The cafe was busy, but not overwhelmingly so. The line moved quickly, and while the food took a little longer to come out, it was clearly made fresh and was flavorful and worth the wait. One thing I appreciated was how dog-friendly the atmosphere is, with dogs welcome both inside and outside. The seating is very much community-style, with shared tables and a family/neighborhood feel. We didn't mind it, but if you prefer more personal space or private seating, the close quarters may not be for you. Breakfast sandwiches were reasonably priced, generally in the $13-$15 range. My only real complaint came when I watched the top of my sandwich fall off while a crew member was moving plates around. The employee picked it up and placed it back on the sandwich with their hand after touching several other items behind the counter. It wasn't enough to ruin the experience, but it did bother me and left an impression. Charming cafe. Interesting too as they have a ping pong table and merchandise section in the middle of the dining area. Service was friendly. I ordered their Mexi Melt, a recommendation from the staff. I'd love to give it higher than a 3 stars but I couldn't ignore that the cream cheese on the everything bagel was half inch thick, making it too rich. Then with the guacamole and the very generous melted cheese just made it over the top. Sometimes you can have too much of good things. The turkey sausage was not a whole piece but just slices not enough to cover the surface of the bagel, making the proportion of dairy/fatty to protein to carbs disproportionate. read more

I don't why it took me forever to visit this place because it's pretty amazing. This is my third time being stationed in the area and today was the day I wanted to go here. I was a little confused on the parking. I parked behind the building so I had to ask if it was ok so I didn't get risk getting my car towed. Everything was worth the wait. The big kahuna was exactly what I needed for breakfast after a long night and early morning. The sauces were perfect with the crunch of the wrap and the ingredients inside. The bagel had the perfect texture, it was a bit crisp on the outside but chewy inside. Grabbed takeout from Java Surf at the Oceanfront! The place has such a cool beachy vibe--laid-back, colorful, and just a fun spot to be in. I made my own burrito with egg, cheese, avocado, turkey sausage, and their sriracha. It was so good. The sriracha added just the right kick, and everything tasted super fresh. Next time, I'd throw in some pico for a little extra flavor. The staff was really chill and got my order together quickly. Even after the ride home, the burrito was still warm and held up perfectly. Decided to grab lunch and give them a try. I've had coffee here before failed to write a review. But here we are writing a review for lunch! Placing my order was easy I ordered a sandwich I wanted no meat so I ordered a chicken pesto sandwich with no chicken. I asked the girl will they still charge me for the chicken she said yes. Maybe the owner will consider doing a vegetarian version of that sandwich. I will say it was very good! This breakfast hit the spot and was actually so good it was our favorite meal all weekend. Now THIS is a breakfast burrito. I am actually in the process of trying to recreate it at home and felt like I had to leave a review. The cafe is so cute and in an artsy part of town where every building has a mural on it. There is a parking lot right outside of it (thank God) and they have indoor and outdoor seating. It's a cute cafe, one of those cafes that sell clothing, sauces, and other items inside too. They have various breakfast items but we all opted for a breakfast burrito. It was big, stuffed, and super tasty. We practically inhaled our food. They have good coffees and smoothies and we got a smoothie and 2 toasted marshmallow lattes which were so delicious. The servers were friendly and the food came out nice and hot. I've been to a lot of cafes but this was definitely one of my favorites by FAR! We were instantly greeted and staff were kind and attentive. While we waited, had a lovely conversation with who I assume was the owner. Waited maybe 2 minutes for our drinks which is amazing! And food was out in about 10 minutes PIPING HOT! And let me tell you this SANDWICH!!!! Brought tears to my eyes lol it was so good (the northender.) My husband got a breakfast burrito and said it was the best he's ever had. I love Java Surf! They have a great, laid back ambiance that fits perfectly at the oceanfront and in the vibe district! They are a great little local coffee spot and in the summer they have an awesome outdoor area that turns into a bar. Very cool vibe. I tried the toffee nut specialty latte and loved it! They lose a star (and it would only be a half star if that was an option) for charging more than their local peers for nondairy milk. read more

What a fun little cafe and coffee spot! The cafe is decorated to theme with vibrant colors and lots of signs and art to look at. We were immediately greeted and instructed to take a seat and order at the counter when ready. Everything sounded delicious! I ended up building my own breakfast sandwich, and my husband got the Big Kahuna. We also got the iced Coconut Blondie latte, and a hot Flat White. The ladies working were so nice! The drinks came out almost immediately, and the food wasn't far behind. I really enjoyed my iced latte, and it had the perfect amount of sweetness. The food came out hot, and was just a great as the coffee! We also enjoyed their Surfer's Heat, Island Hot Sauce! The inside had a good amount of seating, and it looks like the outside transforms to a big seating space during the warmer months. We'll have to check that out this summer! read more
