Cheese Steaks Hot Sub and French Fries

Oh my god, 12/10, best food I've had in a WHILE!! I get there around 2, and it's not busy really, so I must've missed the lunch rush. I get up to the counter and look at the menu, and see what sounded best for the day. I decided on their cheesesteak and fries, and was told it'd be about 10 minutes. Before I sat down, I looked around the shelves a little. They had teas, cookies, and other packaged items from out of the country. If you need a lot of lavender, they got it! The place has hole-in-the-wall vibes, but it is clean, and I like the fact that you can see the guy work in the kitchen to make your meal. They only have two tables with lots of chairs at each, which could be a problem if you wanted to eat-in. I got it to-go anyways seeing as I had been out most of the afternoon and wanted to be home. It took about as long as he said, put my food in a bag with some napkins, and was very polite the whole time. I opened it up to try a fry before driving home, and it all looked really good. Fries were perfect, hot and crispy, and covered in seasoned salt. When I got home, I grabbed a drink and could not stop eating once I got to it. The meat was cooked nicely, it was tender, juicy, and seasoned so well. The cheese had melted all over, and it was like heaven. I got onions with it, and while there wasn't much, I think it honestly didn't need them. What I need is more of that filling, I want it to be filled up, it's so good! Not greasy or messy, it was perfect. The bread was kinda just there, it wasn't my favorite, a bit squishy, and a little soft and chewy, but it held up well. I also got two pouches of ketchup, which wasn't necessary at all, but if you like that, you might wanna ask for more. It was so rich and filling I couldn't finish my fries, but I will 100% be back to try more. Definitely one of my top favorite places now, try it if you haven't!

Very casual, service is friendly and fast. They make it fresh when you order. No frills with the food or the establishment itself. Inside doubles as a grocery store with a small selection of ingredients for things. I got a gyro and fries, it was good.

SO GOOD. BEST GYRO EVER HAD. Service was quick and very friendly. Will be back!!!!!!!

    Lamb Gyro Platter

Delicious!! They did not come to play with the meat portions!! Fulfilled my pregnancy cravings

    Chicken shawarma

I ordered the lamb gyro and chicken shawarma with rice. The guy working there was really nice, and the fried eggplant was pretty good. But the lamb gyro didn't taste like lamb at all; it was more like a beef hamburger with mayo and pickles. The pita bread served by the restaurant tasted store brought and was tough, and the mayo sauce served on the gyro congealed quickly. The chicken shawarma was bland and lacked the spices I was expecting, although the yellow rice was decent. Also, I noticed that the prices on the hanging menu in the kitchen were different from what's shown on the updated menus at the register and on the tables. Overall, I felt like I wasted $25 on this food. I wouldn't recommend this place or go back.

Really good gyro, honestly the best I've had in the area so far. The meat was perfectly seasoned and cooked just right, tender with a little crisp on the edges. The pita was warm and soft, and everything tasted fresh. The sauce tied it all together without overpowering the flavors. Portion size was solid too, definitely worth the price. I'd come back again without hesitation. If you're craving a gyro, this spot is absolutely worth checking out.

Chicken and Beef Shawarma Platter = excellent flavor!

The food was flavorful and fresh. They have a lot of offerings, but you must walk into the establishment to view the menu on the wall. I hope many more patronize this location as it seems new - we could use more authentic eateries in this area.

Me and my boyfriend came here when we arrived Good Friday evening for dinner. We drove all the way…read morefrom central Virginia, and were very hungry. The Chicken Spot was one of two restaurants available that wasnt egregiously expensive, had seafood, and were still open late. Our experience was terrible. I am a young disabled woman. I have a few condition including some hearing issues and some mobility impairments (I use a cane). We walked in and it didn't look too busy. There were 3 people sitting at tables and the bar was a little crowded. When we walked in we immediately noticed the tables were all hightops, except for one 2 seater by the door that looked more like a servers stand than a table. Wheelchair users or other people eith PoTs beware. There was no signage and no one around so we got some menus and sat at the short table. We waited around 20 minutes then set a timer for 5 minutes to see if anyone would Show. We ended up going around the block to another restaurant that was also extremely busy aersalcoholfed. After waiting around 25 minutes at the other restaurant we went back to chicken spot. The bar cleared up slightly, but the 3 tables were still there. This time the bartender was there. We asked her if we could sit at the short table and she said we could sit anywhere, just come to the bar to order. So again, wheelchair users be warned. The menu was very unclear. Apparently there was a build your own seafood boil that started at $8 for a half pound of crawfish. There were your pickings of corn, potatoes, or boiled eggs for $1.75 underneath which I thought were extras. When I placed my order she asked how many potatoes and corn I wanted, this confused me since 1. She was speaking very fast and kept saying different things 2. There was music blasting and people talking all around 3. I have never heard of a seafood boil were you get to choose the amount. After I paused for a couple of seconds confused trying to collect my thoughts to ask her to clarify she finally snapped at me and said "Its per individual piece thats build your own." I absolutely wasn't about to pay $2 per vegetable so I changed my order to a shrimp basket and she got very fed up and rude. I understand it was busy and she was probably stressed, but the way she treated me was very unnecessary. I wasn't rude to her in the slightest, just confused and trying to ask questions, yet she treated me like I was the biggest inconvenience in her life and a waste of her time. We ended up ordering two baskets which came out to $35. We got our ticket but didn't pay yet. She did offer us drinks or water, which we accepted the water. (I can't drink because I'm disabled and my boyfriend had to drive). I feel like the waters just sealed the deal that we "weren't worth her time". We probably waited close to half an hour, and about 10 minutes into that, one of the tables that was there before we left the first time had JUST gotten their 6 drinks and food. There was a couple who was also waiting beforehand and they went to the bar to ask, and I guess they didnt get a good answer because they also looked unhappy. There was another person who left without his food, and the waitress ran out to chase him down, and multiple food delivery people came in to pick up orders. At one point the line cook walked out the front door, and came back in 10 minutes later reeking of marijuana. The waitress was also constantly running back into the kitchen. We ended up leaving without recieving our food and got dinner at 7/11. For atmosphere there are playstations at the bar, loud music, and an instagrammable sunflower wall if you're into that. They do also have games like giant jenga and checkers (thats missing pieces) at some of the tables too. For service is you're not a doordasher or single man, and if you're not ordering alcohol don't bother. For food, we unfortunately didn't even get to try it. But for the menu, pricing, and wait, it doesn't seem worth it at all. The waitress's attitude and treatment were awful, but the problems here definitely seem like they are mostly on management. The poor setup, the understaffing, the unclear menu, etc. My take is if food delivery is interfering with the quality of your in-house customers' experience you need to hire more staff or cut down on the delivery. They really need another line cook or two, and a food/drink runner at minimum. That bartender better be making more than minimum wage because she was doing the jobs of at least 2 different people. Overall, not disabled friendly, and poorly run. Maybe its better in the day, avoid at night unless you like drinking.

5 STARS -- A Standout Mediterranean Street Food Gem in Virginia Beach…read more My experiences with Mr. Sharma go back to their original Norfolk location, where I first met their personable owner, Avi and partner Tal. Both are incredibly skilled at what they do. Their passion for Mediterranean street food shows in every detail of the operation. I've now visited the new Beach location on Laskin Road several times, and each visit reinforces just how impressive this business is. Last year, Avi even gave me a tour of the back of the house. It's state-of-the-art--spotless stainless steel everywhere, top-tier equipment, and a layout that shows real thought and pride in the craft. Parking when busy can offer challenges, but I had no issue. They offer a clean dining room to enjoy your food inside, or on a nice day alfresco on their patio. Customers self bus their tables. On my most recent visit, I ordered Avi's favorite dish, the chicken shawarma in a pita pocket. Outstanding--easily one of the best versions I've had that's loaded with humus, slaw, fries and their in-house sauces. I also met the general manager, Melissa, who was warm, friendly, and clearly invested in maintaining the high standards of freshness that make this place shine. She mentioned that Avi is back in Israel but still travels often, which tracks with the care and consistency the team maintains. I also had samples of their amazing falafel and egg plant which is like candy...yum! The Virginia Beach restaurant itself is clean, bright, and incredibly well put-together. A detail most people will miss, but shouldn't--is the noise-reducing ceiling panels. It's the kind of thoughtful touch that tells you the owners think about every part of the customer experience. Mr. Sharma is one of the most overlooked fast-casual restaurants in Virginia Beach, and frankly, it shouldn't be. This is a long overdue review and it's an easy five stars from me. If you haven't visited their new Laskin Road location yet, you're missing out. Mr. Shawarma holds a special place in my heart and cannot recommend enough.

And the food only paled in comparison to the service. I'm not sure if Alvaro is the owner or related to the proprietor--it's obvious he LOVES his job, he was engaging and knowledgeable and his recommendations were spot on. He suggested the Mezze platter as our appetizer (I ended up eating it as my entire meal). He also was so animated and excited about the buttery sauce that was used in the process of making the lamb chops, we ordered both purely because he was so confident we would like them. And that is where he made his mistake--we didn't LIKE them; we LOVED them! The lamb was cooked to perfection. The appetizer platter was an explosion of flavors--and trust me, the falafel alone is worth the trip back. All too often, falafel is made with the premise that bigger is better. Falafel can taste gummy and dry if it made too large. Baladi had mastered the perfect falafel. They make them small, crunchy and flavorful. Hands down, it was my favorite. And then I tasted the babaganouush! Oh my, my, my! I didn't think the falafel had competition, but that babaganouush nearly melted in my mouth. Look for me when you visit here because Baladi is my new favorite restaurant.

Made the payment and headed into the store for pickup some 10 minutes later. Things turned really sideways from there with added 20+ minutes to resolve the issue. The cashier claimed the Bundle is just a regular poke bowl with a drink for $23. It comes in a regular sized poke bowl and not family size or anything like that. There's no mention of this or about the drink. So we requested we cancel the order and we place an order for 2 poke bowls with 2 proteins. He said no. No order can be canceled for refund. Just grab a drink from the fridge or buy a separate poke bowl and get $5 off if we spend $35. First of all, the cost of buying a 2 protein poke bowl and a drink is less than $23. It's not on the website that the Family Bundle is not a family sized entree with a drink. The man kept arguing until the manager trotted in. She attempted making things right by refunding and voiding the original order and allowed us to order two Poke Bowls w/ 2 proteins. I still didn't appreciate being accused of not wanting the issues to be resolved and that she's just trying to help by giving us a $5 refund. Um..... I'm not the one who came up with this problem. I don't care who the website administrators or UI / UX engineers are. I'm the customer. I thought I can just go in, pick up the order, and eat. The poke bowl itself had meager amounts of fish, too much ginger and seaweed salad, and not much rice. The fish tasted sour and overcooked. The man did a poor job packaging the sauces and the manager had to step in again to assist. The lack of proper utensils or napkins included added to its poor experience. I may try Domoishi again in the future but not anytime soon. I sure don't plan to return to the Hilltop location again. The complete lack of customers and empty parking lot should have told me something prior to entering.

The restaurant wasn't completely full but that soon changed with several families coming in right after us. The restaurant is on the smaller side, clean and decorated well. We went on a Saturday night and ordered off of their special weekend menu. We definitely over ordered. There were 3 of us and we had enough leftovers for a full meal the next day. We ordered the masala cheese dosai, butter chicken, nalli gosht biryani and malai lamb chops. The nalli gosht is the goat shank biryani, we got the order for 2 people, it comes with 2 goat shanks on a mountain of fluffy fragrant basmati rice. The goat was tender falling off the bone, seasoned to perfection in a spicy masala paste/sauce. We got it at level one spice but it tasted spicer. We didn't mind because the spice just added to the flavor. It was so good! We also got the usual butter chicken which turned out to be not so usual because like everything else we tried, the spice combo and depth of flavor just turned it up several notches. The masala cheese dosai was a great start to the meal and was fun to eat with our hands. The lamb chops were a last minute addition and so worth it. The chops were cooked perfectly in a flavorful sauce and served with a veggie slaw. Overall, we LOVED everything we tried and would definitely recommend Biryani Hub. The only suggestion we have would be to serve cold water or offer ice. Our waiter brought a bottle of water to the table with glasses but the water was more room temp. Other than that, it was a great experience.

Biryani Hub Delivers a Flavorful Introduction to Authentic Indian Cuisine…read more I finally made my way to Biryani Hub for lunch, conveniently located at 5745 Virginia Beach Boulevard, tucked just behind the Waffle House. For weekday diners, the restaurant offers a smart selection of combination platters--an ideal entry point for anyone looking to explore a range of traditional Indian dishes in a single sitting. I chose the Chicken Platter ($15), which features three distinct preparations, two generously sized pieces of naan, and a dessert to round out the meal. It's a well-structured offering that balances variety with portion size. The standout was the Chicken Dum (bone-in), prepared in the traditional dum style--slow-cooked and sealed to lock in flavor. The result is deeply aromatic, rich, and layered in a way that feels unmistakably royal. This is not rushed food; it's deliberate, composed, and worthy of the word "luxury." Equally impressive was the Special Chicken (boneless)--tender pieces marinated in a proprietary blend of spices, then cooked with fragrant basmati rice in layered fashion. Each bite carried trapped aromas that unfolded gradually, delivering both depth and balance without overwhelming the palate. One detail worth noting: the clearly defined spice scale (1-7). I selected level 4, labeled "Indian Mild." While approachable, it still carried a noticeable heat--enough to remind you that you're experiencing authentic seasoning rather than a toned-down version. Too often, restaurants rely on heat for its own sake--spice without structure. That's not the case here. At Biryani Hub, the heat is deliberate, built into layered flavor profiles that are difficult to fully describe and far better experienced firsthand. What stood out most was the depth of flavor across the board. Each dish brought its own identity, with spices working in harmony rather than competing for attention. For those already familiar with Indian cuisine--or anyone curious to step into it--Biryani Hub is a worthwhile stop. It's the kind of place that rewards exploration while supporting a local business doing things the right way.
