Sophia and I ate lunch at this Mr. Shawarma location last Saturday in Virginia Beach. This was actually a Plan B since our 1st choice had a 35-40 wait time to where we had to leave. I've been wanting to try them out ever since they opened, so let's see how the visit went. We were both greeted by staff after walking inside. Generally, this Mr. Shawarma is (was) a great establishment. My family has eaten there nearly every Friday since it's opened. While there's been a high employee turnover, we have noticed a decrease in consistency and quality. Yet, today, I decided to pick up the order since my daughter is still recovering from a sickness. So, I ordered our food online and specified each particular item to be added to wraps. When I arrived, I patiently waited as they put the order together--I should have watched them make them--this order was completely unacceptable. For both of the wraps ordered, I paid for extra meats--that never happened. In actuality, that was all that was inside the small wraps (just a bit bigger than a Taco Bell burrito)--very small amounts of protein. For the beef and lamb wrap, they completely forgot the humus, eggplant, fries, hot sauce, cucumber salad, onions, cabbage, and parsley--it was dry and maybe 1.5" wide (compared to their usual 4" wide). Unfortunately, the other wrap was the same with only chicken but a few pieces of onion. No sauces were put on the wraps, only placed in the to-go bag. The bowl, while sort of adequate, just didn't match their quality at all (see picture). I'm not a complaining person, to the contrary, I usually go out of my way to encourage staff, tip each time I order inside, even though there's no reason to tip. Tried Mr Shawarma the other day for the first time when in Virginia Beach to visit my parents. Ordered pick up and got two chicken shawarma wraps, one each for me and my mom. A couple of months ago, I had a chance to try the Chicken Shawarma Wrap and it was absolutely amazing. Since then, I've wanted to return to try the Beef & Lamb Shawarma and I'm so happy I did. I arrived around 8pm on a Friday night and was happily greeted by all the staff. Unfortunately, they seemed to be running low on a few items, including the chicken and falafels, but since I was there for the Beef & Lamb Shawarma, I didn't mind. The lady making my bowl was very nice, she even let me try one of the last few falafels they had and it was great. My Beef & Shawarma Bowl consisted of sliced beef, hummus, jalapeño cilantro schug, fried eggplant, rice, chickpeas and veggies. They offer a variety of sauces as well so I asked for the garlic sauce and the harissa aioli on the side. The food was delicious! Everything paired so well together and the sauces enhanced the flavors even more. Mr. Shawarma offers pitas, wraps and bowls with fresh and flavorful ingredients. I went to try Mr. Shawarma I ordered the beef and lamb bowl asked what else i wanted ask if I wanted hummus I declined twice. I like the beef and lamb, but I can't tell which from which. If it was just lamb it would have been nicer. The basamati rice is good, are nice and the garlic and tahini sauce was nice as well. The fried eggplants and pickled cabbage and cucumber tomato salad was fresh. The fries were ok. I would have like a larger size drink. Overall I thought this was a good meal. The customer service was really friendly and helpful. I like that and the inside was very clean and nobody were there at 11:01am. I've had plenty of shawarma in my lifetime, and this was nowhere close. The beef was dry and tasted old, and seeing it sitting in the buffet before being served should have been my sign to walk out. The portion they put in the tray was very small, and I had to ask for more repeatedly, which felt uncomfortable and unnecessary. I am an adult and expect a portion that allows me to enjoy the meal and not leave hungry. Cute little place. Reminds me of Chipotle with how everything is set up. Loved all the different toppings you could add, and I loved how my wrap turned out. They even made sure they put on fresh falafel for it. The fries were also a hit. Great amount of salt, and while they were a bit soft, they still had a little crunchiness to them. Their ranch was also quite nice, good flavor and was liquidy. Will be trying more Mediterranean places, but this was a nice quick and enjoyable lunch that I can see myself eating again. read more

This is the newest location for Mr. Shawarma and I don't think i've ever been to their original location. This new spot is soo convenient b/c it's literally right off the highway exit. I told the workers there that it was my first time and they gave us two free falafels to try! Customer service here is ON POINT!! I got the beef Shawarma wrap and they actually shaved some fresh beef for me right then and there since there wasn't much left in the pan on the hot pass. The beef Shawarma was DELICIOUS - the flavors all worked well together and the beef was beautifully seasoned. I would 100% get this again. My wife got the chicken bowl and she enjoyed that as well. Restaurant is open and bright and has plenty of tables for indoor dining. Restaurant was also very clean as well as the bathrooms. I am afraid to get a different type of protein next time since I really enjoyed the beef here. Can't wait to come back on my next visit! read more

I have been a fan of Mr. Shawarma in Norfolk for a while so I was excited to see them open a second location in Virginia Beach. When my friend Super Yelper Fox E told me he was coming to the area I thought it would be a great opportunity to try the new location. We rolled in a little after 6 PM on Friday evening and enjoyed every minute of our visit. Staff is friendly and attentive and everyone looks like they really enjoy their jobs and working together. The space was neat and clean. We placed our orders at the counter and watched while our food was being prepared. We both had the beef and lamb shawarma, his in a pita and mine in a wrap. We got them loaded with most of the available ingredients and sauces. We also ordered the falafel appetizer. Complimentary pickled cucumbers, carrots and pepperoncinis were also provided. Our orders were ready in a couple minutes so we took our trays to a table then went to the self-serve soda fountain and filled our cups with water. We went back to the table and settled in to enjoy our meals. All I can say is WOW! The food was authentic and amazing. The shawarma was heavenly with all the flavors mingling together in joyous harmony. The shawarma at both locations is the best I've ever experienced in this country. The falafel is equally flavorful and amazing with the perfect texture. My only criticism is I wish the falafel appetizer had six pieces instead of five. As it is you find yourself staring at the lone remaining orb of delight and wondering who is going to eat it. I guess you can always just purchase a second order. When we first arrived there were a few customers taking advantage of the outdoor seating. I was very impressed when I saw an employee immediately come outside to clean the tables that had just been vacated. That's not something you see every day. As you can tell, Fox and I really enjoyed our fabulous meals and some great conversation in the comfortable confines of the dining room. I am happy this new location has a considerably more favorable parking situation than the Norfolk location. The small parking lot shared with the other tenet of the complex seems adequate. One of my favorite spots for mediterranean cuisine in Hampton Roads. I've been to their Norfolk location and was thrilled to see they were opening another location in VB. This one is much more accessible for me personally and I made sure to go check it out pretty close to when they opened. Just as good as location 1. Atmosphere at this location is nice, very clean with a decent number of tables. They also have some outdoor tables. I love their falafel, their beef and lamb shawarma and their chicken shawarma. I always get a bowl and load it up with all of their delicious toppings. Service is always consistently friendly and I find pricing to be fair. You get great portions. I've been so excited to try this place since I saw their grand opening sign. So glad I got to try it tonight. I got the falafel bowl and hubs got the beef and lamb wrap. Mine came with a generous portion of falafel, which was great because it's so good. I got all the toppings and added the spicy harissa (which is legit spicy btw but so good) and then I added some eggplant. For my sauces, I got tahini, garlic aioli and then a spicy one the guy picked for me. I added a spicy pepper too. I also got a hot and fresh complimentary side of pita, which was delicious. I was especially interested in lunch here after all the hype I'd read on Facebook foodie pages and here on Yelp, that piqued my interest. Unfortunately, it just wasn't good. It wasn't super busy, so maybe it had something to do with the food sitting for a while? I had a bowl and the hubs had a wrap. The meat was very dry and incredibly salty in both our meals. My rice wasn't cooked through. The selection of add-ons was on the weak side. To top it all off, the side of hummus was just horrible - very thin and rather tasteless. The only thing good about the meal was the warm pita. Overall, we were really let down. Maybe the Norfolk location is better, but not sure we'll be making the trip to find out. read more

When I worked in Norfolk I would frequent the Norfolk location. I was so happy they moved a location to my side. It is nicely decorated with plenty of natural light and they even have outside seating. As many times as I went, it's always intimidating with all the different ingredients.
