I'm surprised I haven't written a review before now. My husband and I have been going to Azar's since they first opened. We have always had great service. Friendly greetings as soon as you enter and we are always quickly seated. 5 star-Gyro and fries are tasty and like comfort food. 5 star- burgers. Full of flavor and the bun is perfect and the fixin's are fresh. 5star- kabobs. The steak is trendy and juicy. The salmon is cooked perfectly. Azar's is close to where I work so I stop in a couple of times a month. The service is always friendly and the food is delicious. My favorite items on the menu are falafel and their gyros. On this particular day I noticed that they had a salmon gyro on the specials board. Decided to try it and now I'm sat here wishing that it was alway on the menu. I started with the Pick your Pair and ordered the Chicken Tawook Wrap and the Greek Salad. My friend had the Chicken Kebab Platter. The food came out so fast!!! I am sure that's because it is lunch time and people have to get back to work so I did appreciate the speed. So good! The Chicken Tawook Wrap was crispy on the outside with such fresh ingredients on the inside. There is a reason why it is a "Customer Favorite." Greek salad was fresh and delicious. We did order a turkish coffee and a baklava since November 17th is National Baklava Day. That is some strong coffee and will keep you up for hours! This place is the real deal Middle Eastern their flavors are wonderful their menu is easy and well done. We have their sample platter which is hummus baba and tabouli and it was fantastic we also had the baked kibbi dinner and the stuffed eggplant dinner we also had dessert and coffee service was fine the place was clean and there was plenty of people there enjoying food and the prices were Fair all in all it was a wonderful enjoyable dinner and I would definitely go back since it's the only true place and it's only competition as a place called Baladi and that place sucks read more

First time for this Azar location which was added after their original off Prescott. They are located in the Hilltop Shoppes. Surface parking is plentiful and was debris free. I was greeted by the hostess at lunch and asked about the bar for food. Bartender Alex said typically bar is drinks only for lunch, but they were not busy and allowed. The bar is tiny so I understand. Service was strong and friendly with Alex getting me a water and order of Lamb Burger & fries. The wait was no more than 20 minutes. It was nice to chat with Alex about the business and family history. Their baked goods are made in-house at the other site and transported to Hilltop. They have a display case up front. My sandwich was good, not sure I would get again. I also ordered a carrot cake for desert which was yum! Recommend! Strong service and above average sandwich with scrumptious desert. While the food was okay, the service wasn't great. My friend and I met here for lunch and it wasn't very busy. The waitress took our order and after bringing drinks and the food in a decent amount of time, she never checked back. EVERYONE START WITH FRIES they are awesome. Following the super awesome fries we ordered up a tofu wrap with a peasant salad (delicious) , tuna wrap with house salad (excellent) and a falafel wrap with a Greek salad, (delicious). Azar's never disappoints, every time I eat here I am amazed with the quality and consistency of the food and the generosity of the portions. Again I have to compliment the staff. This was a first time visit for me. I must say it was the most I've eaten in one sitting in a long time. Everything was amazing and I am definitely looking forward to visiting again. Our waitress was soooo kind, so helpful and really friendly. She was great and I hope to get her again. Stopped in for girls dinner! We all split the grape leaves which are by far the best I've had in the area. Two of us got the "Choose 2"- which was choose 2 of soup, salad or wrap. A lot of choices a little overwhelming if you don't have something particular in mind. The other chose the Chicken Tawook which was a lot! I've been going to Azar's for about a million years now and I don't know that I've ever critiqued the restaurant. It was really a "broke down palace" a few days ago when we stopped in for early dinner. Let's take it from the top: 1.) Lose the fake flowers and plants. They're awful. It's 2023, you can pay a service to maintain your plants if you can't manage. You can also choose to have no plants, which is better than fake plants. Upon MY visit, the fake plants were laying on the ground outside. Nothing says, "We care!" Like fake plants littering the walk outside your restaurant. 2.) Make sure your fountain is working or get rid of it. When we came in last week, the fountain was in disrepair and oh my, is it ever ugly. Personally, I think you need the fountain as it's the only ambience in the place; I mean that's it, a fountain. Fix it, please. 3.) You may be lacking in ambience but the food is delish and very reasonable, until last week. Are you kidding me guys? You DO know that "Baladi" is just across the parking lot?? I had the braised lamb at Azar's for 22. a plate and it was so very bad. Seriously, I'm not trying to be mean; I like this restaurant and would like to see you back in the saddle. Nothing has been good there since COVID. My lamb was so sadly under-seasoned, veggies were clearly frozen (maybe even canned?) and bulgar wheat was thoroughly dried out. Nothing on my plate was even hot. The only thing that gave me solace was the "Ugly Duckling." It was heavenly per usual but, let's face it, you didn't make that. 4.) No bar. If you're not going to have a bar, you best pick up your food game. Again, there's "Baladi" across the way killing it with amazing food and craft cocktails to die for. It's as though "Azar's" just doesn't care! Like you're depending on your stand by locals and they don't matter enough for you to even buy fresh, sweet corn. Where's your pride? Put some fun, sparkling spritzers or something on the drink menu. Better still, get your ABC license. I have to say, with a heavy heart, I won't be going back to this restaurant unless they have a special or a Grand Reopening or the like. I really felt kinda used at my last visit. Just appalling really. I'm very sad. You just cannot hide it when you don't care and right now, for whatever reason(s), "Azar's" doesn't care. read more

This is a hidden gem in Virginia Beach. They have a great menu, but also a to-go counter with desserts and other items! I love their fries they are seasoned with Za'atar and come with an amazing garlic sauce!! My kids and I love the lentil soup, chicken soup, and chicken salad wrap. The chicken soup is not chicken noodle soup, it does not have noodles in it! But it is so comforting and delicious! I ordered a falafel wrap to go, and maybe that's just not their thing ... but it was really bad. The falafel was dry and crumbly, and the toppings inside were very unremarkable. Actually I would say terrible. They literally put dill pickles in it. What ??? Dill pickles, sad romaine, a few tomatoes, and bland hummus. I was looking for traditional flavors, as one would expect from a Mediterranean restaurant. I asked for hot sauce, thinking I would get some sort of harissa... no. I hadn't been to this Azar's before, it was pretty good! My waitress, Mary, was really nice and knew the food very well. Food came out really fast and tasted great. I had an appetizer where I got to pick 3 of the other appetizers, called taste of Azar's. The tabouleh was good, but the onions were a little strong. The dolmas, those grape leaf wraps with rice inside, were amazing! The hummus was nice and smooth, tasted like hummus. It didn't blow me away. I thought the portions of hummus and tabouleh were a little stingy for the price ($10). I tried a dish I never had before, called chicken tawook. It's the chicken kebab with lots of spinach, some squash, zucchini, tomatoes, onion, red bell peppers, and baby carrots all covered in tahini and a vinegarette with basmati rice. It tasted really great together and I absolutely killed the veggies and chicken. The rice was cooked just right, I took most of it home. The inside of the restaurant is nice and clean. It's wide open with lots of Windows to look out and a waterfall "wall" in the middle of the dining area. Despite a pretty dining area, the cutlery was cheap, like cafeteria utensils. There is ample parking, though Hilltop has several annoying turn areas and it's confusing where stuff is. Azar's is in "Hilltop West." They have 1 bathroom for men and 1 for women. Bathroom was clean when I visited, but almost out of toilet paper, and completely out of paper towels (they have a lackluster blow hand drier too). read more

This place gets a bad rap and they shouldn't. Their other location across town is considered better. But this place is just as good. After all, it's the same food. The only thing is hummus and a few cold items are made at their original location daily. Other things like their middle eastern inspired pizzas, burgers, wraps are made here. This place is actually Lebanese, but when you mention Middle Eastern foods, part of Italy, Palestine, Greece, Turkey are extremely close in menu items but their spice are slightly different. After all it's the Middle Eastern region. Just because some of their items are made at the original ( that kitchen is bigger), and from my understanding. Azar's started out as a catering business, was super popular then moved to Hilltop location, because their dining room at their original location can't handle heavy traffic. From my understanding it's an order, pick up and take it to go. To be honest, since the foods the same, and this place definitely has the indoor and outdoor seating, give it a try. read more

This is not Mediterranean food not even close, we started with the server (Mary or something like that) hurrying us along. Came with my two friends for a leisurely lunch on Sunday. We said we hadn't looked at the menu and she said "well look" umm what? Started with the falafel(dry, dry dry), spanakopita (tasty best thing we had) and the sampler (not worth it) For lunch I ordered the beef shawarma but it definitely wasn't that, it had mince ground beef like how is that a shawarma. My friends had the veggie pizza and it was ok, it was just toppings on a prefabricated pita not a fresh dough. Disappointed. The ambiance in both restaurants is very fitting for a Mediterranean themed restaurant. The location on Prescott Street, off of Bonnie Road, has a little retail area. This allows you to purchase some of your favorite Mediterranean foods and bring them home. Freshly made hummus is a favorite. The restaurant is family owned and has a warm welcome to it. Their grill produces some delicious chicken kabobs, the wraps are tasty, also. The chicken tawook wrap is one of my wife's favorite dishes! Their seasoned French fries are a great addition if you have a craving for a delicious snack/side to your meal. They offer many vegan and gluten free options. Open for both lunch and dinner. The parking is directly on the premises, it tends to fill up at peak mealtimes! Clean and easily accessible parking is available. The Presscott Street location is a bit hidden -it's directly off Bonnie Rd, Recommend turning as soon as you see a gas station. The first time I went to it, I missed the turn, but now that I know where it is, it's "easy-peasy" to get to it. The dessert that's should be saved best for last is their homemade baklava! Pistachio baklava is a favorite! Walnut baklava is a second favorite. Great place my wife and I truly enjoyed this restaurant and will recommend highly! Just a few steps from my office is this awesome restaurant that serves Mediterranean food!! I came with coworkers and was seated immediately. They started taking our drink orders and gave us a few minutes to look at the menu. I ordered the Greek salad with a chicken kabob on the side and a pita. It was very good and huge! I couldn't even eat the whole thing. The staff is so very friendly and accommodating. They checked on us every few minutes to see if we needed anything. So I was talking to a customer at work who kept bringing up their Mediterranean travels so I wanted to get some Greek food and sate my hunger. So I walked in placed my order for a hummus appetizer, a gyro, and some fries. This is the first Greek restaurant that I have ever been to that only does a wrap instead of the platter. First questionable thing. So I pay go out to my car to wait because the place is dead and I don't want to be the awkward guy just sitting there. Food comes out fairly quickly. Best part of the experience. I get home open everything up and notice that the hummus, while a generous portion, came with exactly 1 pita triangle, 5 tomato slices, and 6 pickles with no plastic ware in the bag. Well, that's depressing. So then I move onto the gyro. This is the smallest, saddest gyro I have ever seen. Every other Greek place I've eaten at piles on the meat. This was more tzatziki than meat. One of our fave food spots; so good! I've only discovered this place recently, so haven't dined in (Covid) but the takeout has been super delicious! Just for clarification, they do have outdoor seating available and you can eat indoors as well, but based on my personal comfort level, I haven't yet explored these options; I'm still more comfortable with takeout. One of the main draws for me: they have a large vegan menu. Worth noting: this location has a separate vegan specific menu, their other VA Beach location does not (though the other location still has a few vegan options). As I am vegan and my SO is not, we love finding places where we can both eat and be happy and this is one of those spots. We both agree that the food is so good! My fave is the Beyond Beef Shawarma platter; my SO loves the regular Shawarma platter with lamb and their chicken soup. Even if you're full, don't pass on dessert; def get it to go! For vegans they have amazing chocolate chips cookies and a dessert called the ugly duckling (chocolate and marzipan). My SO swears by the lemon cake! Rude. They do the bare minimum. I have placed three large orders around $200 or more over the last few months. I have done this at both locations. When I came to pick up an order at the Pembroke location, which had been sitting on the counter, the girl gestured with a nod, not even offering to help me get it out to my car. Thankfully as I struggled at the door, another kind of patron came in and offered to help me carry it out to my car. Azar's at hilltop is really no better. I recently placed a very large order and asked if they could add extra information to the delivery that would help the driver, like the name of the recipient in their phone number. The Azar's girl told me that once the delivery is placed it goes to a third party and there's no way to add information. I asked if she could just write on the order the name of the recipient? She made it seem like a big deal. The doordash driver did end up having to call me because she couldn't get a hold of the recipient. A little customer service would go a long way!!
