Looking for an Italian restaurant and came across Sorella's on Virginia Beach. They were very busy with over an hour wait. Luckily they had a few open seats at the pizza bar and jumped on it. The restaurant was bright, modern and clean. Service was spot on. To start off we order an eggplant dish which was crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside. I ordered the chicken Parmigiana super flavorful and delicious. My husband ordered fried flounder with orzo. Fish was flaky and creamy orzo and cooked to perfection. We happened upon Sorella's on a Saturday night while trying to find dinner in Virginia Beach, which can feel like a competitive sport. First good sign? Valet parking. In that Shops area on a weekend, that alone feels like a small miracle. The restaurant was busy (always reassuring), and the ambiance is beautifully upscale without feeling stuffy. We were seated in a booth behind the bar, which ended up being a great spot. Our waiter was knowledgeable, pleasant, and confident with the menu. We started with the Italian chopped salad and the eggplant. The eggplant was absolutely delicious. The chopped salad gave me classic, old-school Italian restaurant vibes -- the kind you'd find back in New York. Nostalgic and well done. My husband ordered a version of linguine with clam sauce. He said it wasn't traditional Italian-style -- more like a creamy ramen-style broth -- but he genuinely loved it and basically slurped up every last drop (shells and all). His only complaint? It could've used more pasta. I ordered the spicy pork ragu, which was also delicious, though it had an unexpected hint of Indian-style flavor to it. Not a bad thing -- just different from what you might expect from a classic ragu. I ended with the pomegranate sorbet, and that was the perfect light finish to the meal. We bring the kids to Virginia Beach every summer and along with us comes the tourist hat for the heck of it because why not? As I travel a lot, I dine at Italian restaurants across the whole country and my wife is from New York City so our bar of expectation is ALWAYS high when it comes to Italian food, We originally had intended to dine here on our first night but when we were told it was an hour wait, we decided to pursue another nearby eatery. We arrived 10 minutes prior to our reservation just to give ourselves a little window. The restaurant itself is very nice and aesthetically pleasing. Our waiter Brad was also equally pleasant and hospitable so we expected good things. Unfortunately we were disappointed; the bread and appetizers took ages to come out. The pity of it was that the octopus was actually very decent. The olive dip was also good albeit drowning in too much olive oil which overpowered its natural flavor. For the entree my wife and kids got pizzas and I opted for the rigatoni. The entrees took absolutely goddamn ages fo come out; we were seated around 7:50pm and our entrees didn't arrive till about 8:30pm. Now I don't normally do a blunt review but I have to in this case. The rigatoni was goddamn rubbish, watery and had zero flavor it was as bland as a rock. I had to add salt and chili flakes give it some flavor. The pizza was just meh...and no fresh mozzarella on it? Come on guys. The side of mashed potatoes tasted good but the dish was drowning in butter/oil. The killer of it? Service was abysmal and extremely slow. Enjoyed another wonderful evening with friends at Sorella's! Daniela was our server and was very enthusiastic and helpful. The food was amazing and everything was beautifully plated. We enjoyed the Oysters Sorella, the brochette, and the fried mozzarella for appetizers! The Oysters were the favorite with the brochette a close second. For entrees two people had the Crab Pasta special which was so good it just was outstanding with large pieces of crab meat in a creamy sauce! It's not dim lighting but just enough to have a clear viewing experience My friends took me for my birthday that evening. The server was attentive and knowledgeable. He was both personable and prompt. The food was very savory. You could definitely tell the pastas were made in-house. We ordered a few dishes to share. The Peach & Porkbelly pizza had drizzle of honey with a peach jam. My only suggestion is that it needed to be more balanced. There wasn't enough peach jam and honey to elevate the savory taste. The mushroom pasta was also savory, but I'm not a big fan of dense pasta. Although I respect the freshly made noodles, it wasn't as delicious as the breaded chicken over the wide pasta. Our appetizer was Bucatini with shrimp and bacon. It was also savory and rich but I enjoyed it the most. Lastly, I liked the Spumoni dessert they made into my birthday cake but not anything special. The pasta themed Wallpaper in the bathroom is pays tribute to the magic of what they do and a true testament to the craft. And believe me that dedication pays off! The in house pasta is incredible- so incredible that I'm pretty sure the lumanche is one of the best things I've ever eaten in my life! We hit up happy hour and tried a bunch of different dishes. The martini espresso, house made limoncello, and tiramisu were also outstanding! The staff went above and beyond to celebrate a few birthdays on the group. They even made a custom sign for us. Walked over here from the hotel we were staying and enjoyed a glass of wine while I waited for my food to be ready. Was kind of disappointed to arrive back to the hotel and learn the bruschetta I ordered was made with meat, when clearly on my receipt in big bold red letters with exclamation marks noted "NO MEAT!!!" By this time it was after 10pm so I called and the manager on duty Vincent not only remembered my order he tried to remedy the situation and I appreciated him for that. My salad was ok...the pasta was delicious. Simple and tasty. Full of flavors. The restaurant was busy, bar area was full and there were plenty of patio outdoor seating. If I wasn't on auntie duty I would've loved to sit out on the patio and enjoy the evening. This place seemed perfect for a date night, wine night, girls night out. So glad we were able to have dinner at Sorella's. Our reservation was on a Friday night and it was definitely busy but service was still great. We ordered Oyster Sorellas and brussel sprouts. I was worried because I saw another review saying the brussel sprouts were bad but they were perfect. The whipped ricotta base was a perfect taste against the crispy chili Brussel Sprouts. The oysters were also really good. I was surprised how much I liked them in comparison to other restaurants in the area. I ordered chicken Parmesan and my fiancé ordered the veal Parmesan. Both came with spaghetti. Mine was a perfect size but we were shocked at the veal cut. It was such a large sized portion. Both were very delicious. I can see why the veal is a favorite. First off get the vodka pasta. It was AMAZING. 10/10. We ordered a lot we had the 4 cheese pizza, the peach and pork pizza the kids cheese pizza, fried calamari, the chicken parm sliders, and the fried mozzarella. All of the food was good but we loved the vodka pasta. Our service was great no complaints. The restaurant itself is very nice on the inside but we opted for outside seating which was fine. To start, I ordered a glass of the Barbera D'Alba from Collina San Ponzio, which was smooth and balanced, tasted like a cab. It was a great choice to pair with my meal. My friend and I both opted for Caesar salads. A nice touch was that our waitress let us know the salad included actual anchovies (good to know if you don't like anchovies)! She also brought out some bread and oil. For appetizers, we ordered the bruschetta, which had prosciutto, pesto, ricotta, fig jam, and pistachios on focaccia. The combination of flavors was a great balance of savory and sweet. We also shared the mussels, which were served in a spicy tomato broth with Italian sausage and fennel. The broth was super flavorful, and the grilled bread on the side was perfect for soaking up the broth. Absolutely loved sorellas, a warm rustic atmosphere with friendly staff. The most important part though is the food! For appetizers we had Brussels sprouts which were 10/10, the whipped ricotta which were 15/10, and the mozzarella balls which were 20/10, everything was delicious. For the enter I got the vodka pasta with braised short rib and wow it was amazing, the pasta was fresh, plenty of sauce and the short rib was so tender. My husband and I love this place! The owner here also is part owner of The Atlantic on Pacific and Eurasia. We love all three of the restaurants, but if you're in the mood for Italian or pasta, this is the spot! Super attentive, offered great suggestions (I basically made him pick every course for me LOL) and really ensured we had a great time! BLUF: good, but didn't meet expectations. A group of four of us went out for dinner on a Sunday evening. The service was friendly, including bringing rest plate of a weird women's and Alliance to go with our water and soft drinks upon request. Appetizers included whipped ricotta, beet salad, stuffed squash blossoms, beef carpaccio, and seafood misto. The whipped ricotta was definitely a winner, although it needed to come with a little more bread. The beet salad was also tasty and quite fresh. The squash blossoms were kind of a let down. It is a relatively heavy breading and it's deep fried so that you really kind of it get more taste of fried breading than of the actual blossom or the goat cheese stuffing. If it had a little lighter coating on it so that it maintained the texture and colors of the squash blossoms they would have tasted a lot better. The carpacio was just fair, with most of the flavoring being on the outer crust. These Seafood misto was good, but really nothing more than you might get at a bar with deep fried calamari and shrimp. For entrees we had a margarita pizza, a tartuffo pizza, and raviolis. The tartufo pizza was actually pretty good. Margarita Pizza had a sauce that was quite bland, and for some reason they placed pearl onions on it. I've never seen a margarita pizza with onions, let alone pearl onions, on it. The ravioli was good in a deconstructed way. It came out literally smothered in a meat sauce so that everyone of the table looked at it and basically had as the waiter what it was. It turned out and underneath the meat sauce were the raviolis. If you ain't the sauce with the raviolis the sauce flavor pretty much drowned out the goat cheese and ravioli flavors. What I ended up doing was basically eating the meat sauce off the top until there was just a little bit left and then eating the raviolis and in that way I got the best of both. It's not that it was bad it's just that each part actually tasted better by itself and the Ravi always just don't need to be smothered like that. One dish in our order was completely forgotten about as the food was brought out. When I realized it hadn't come out it was too late and so I didn't want it anymore. They did apologize for it and they took it off the bill. For dessert we had pomegranate for Bay and olive oil chocolate cake. The sorbet was excellent, the cake was very good but a little bit dry. Was the pasta supposed to be made in-house? Spaghetti was soggy, tasteless - boxed spaghetti or spaghetti from a chain like Fazoli's is even better! The real issue was the meatballs - the center was still frozen! So don't kid yourself that you're paying for made from scratch food. The only saving grace was the response from management- bill was on the house. But here's the thing - the free take home Tiramisu wasn't good, tasteless and no hint of coffee. I've seen so many good reviews and even asked a friend for recommendations and was told about this place. My friend and I came here around 5:30pm and were sat immediately. We were also greeted immediately so that's a plus, granted we came to VB during the off season. After taking some time to think about what to order, we decided on the bucatini (cacio e pepe) and the linguine con vongole. Food didn't take long, and they do offer bread and olive oil too. The portions were perfect and filling regardless of how small it looks. The interior is very classy and fancy, but the restaurant itself is very casual, or can be so don't worry about having to dress nice. The crispy mozzarella balls are hands-down one of my favorites for dessert. I ended up ordering affogato with hazelnut Gelati and a side of amaretto. My friend ordered the pasta with sauce the spaghetti she absolutely loved it. She said you can tell that it was fresh made pasta. My other friend ordered the bone and ribeye with potatoes. She said it was the best ribeye she has had. She said it was so flavorful cooked to perfection and seasoned just right , she had for chocolate olive oil cake, which she absolutely loved.
