I've been wanting to checkout this restaurant for awhile and today was the day. The restaurant layout was clean and simple. The staffs were kind and friendly. I got a bowl of chicken and lamb with everything in it. I saw a a few customers before me ordered the falafel and thought it must be something I got to try, so I ordered some as well. At checkout I couldn't decide which sauce to choose and ended up with four different sauce to try. The food was fresh and the flavors were just right. Also, found out the falafel would not be something I personally will crazy for. The four sauces I tried and describe as... 1) Garlic - similar to ranch 2) Harissa Aioli - similar to ranch yet a tad spicy (My favorite) 3) Tahini - similar to light ranch with a very light touch of sesame butter 4) Amber - tangy and a bit bitter with turmeric Either I was already sleepy when I had the food or the food had me feel sleepy afterwards. Overall, it was worth a try.
Sophia and I ate lunch at one of our favorite spots on the Southside this past Saturday. For years, Mr. Shawarma has been a place to enjoy Middle Eastern food for a decent price. It has been a year since I posted an updated review so it was time for a revisit. Foot traffic was decent with a big set of folks who were from ODU eating inside. And the staff was quite busy when we walked in. It didn't take long at all for us fo place our orders. I selected the beef and lamb shawarma including hummus and jalapeno for the base, eggplant, cabbage, the tomato/cucumber salad mix, pickles and garlic sauce along with a side of fries. The pita was really good with the protein and veggies. I must say the jalapeno added much needed spice to the meal. All of this came together as usual. Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed with the fries and so was Sophia. They tasted hard and a bit stale. I wondered if they just had a batch standing there for a good while. I did finish over half of it, but the rest I couldn't eat. Besides the fries situation, the meal was good enough to be full. We will back for more, hopefully at their Virginia Beach location next time :)

Chicken falafel portion pretty big even the gave soda on the house it's nice touch people are soft and polite lady explains things very nice . Chicken shawarma bowl was good chicken falafel taste good as well only one problem lamb or beef meat smell off that's why 4 star other wise overall it's good place to enjoy middle eastern food. And Ambiance just okay I wish them lots of good luck .
When walking in the atmosphere is cafeteria style with modern decore seating. You know I love the concept cafeteria style! You get to chose what fixings you want in your bowl, wrap or pita. I chose the pita with beef & lamb, and so surprised how huge the it was. Definitely tasty! I also ordered the fried eggplant, but was just a little salty for my taste. The side peppers was nice added bonus. I would come back if ever in the area, but sorta spoiled at my local spot.
Food is Amazing!!! I had been a regular customer for past few years never disappointed!!! The Staff are very friendly and super active... Hope they continue the Quality of food!!! Missing the pickled carrots.. hope they bring back soon... There is a parking right opposite to this place so it's very convenient...
The food here is amazingly good, but it is a little expensive. I am a big lamb person, and the shwarma was extra juicy. They gave us a good amount of hot peppers, which were a lot saltier than I thought it would be: more salty than pickled vinegar flavor. The hummus and grilled eggplant and vegetables were amazing with the lamb and beef. The fries on the side were a lot more greasy than I like and less crispy, but it went really well with the bowl. I really appreciated the pita bread that came with the bowl because it paired really well with everything combined. I can eat the whole bowl in one sitting. It's a good size bowl, and they stuffed my fiance's wrap. It was wrapped pretty well. The staff is very nice, and they are more than happy to give you more of something if you ask. Parking is across the street, just a minute walk.
Finally I was able to swing by this past weekend and it was exactly what I thought it would be. I got the lamb and beef shawarma bowl with everything on it. Even the eggplant which I was nervous about was pretty good. I may tell them light eggplant next time because I'm not a huge fan of the larger piece's texture. The falafel was the best I've ever had! The outside was crispy but the inside was so moist, fragrant, and just a great addition to the meal. All of the food was fresh, and flavorful. Speedy service, clean, simplistic atmosphere; I can't wait to come back!
This restaurant is very clean, the customer service is great, and the food is fresh and tasty. I ordered the falafel wrap with hummus, jalapeño cilantro schug, fried eggplant, onions with sumac, fresh parsley, and cucumber and tomatoes topped with tahini sauce. Everything tasted fresh. When my fiancé and I walked in we saw that the there were only a few pieces of falafel left and asked if a fresh batch was being brought out soon. The employee that helped start our order asked one of the other employees to make a fresh batch of falafel. That employee was sweeping the floors when she was asked about the new batch of falafel and when she finished sweeping she immediately changed her gloves to work on the batch. When the batch was finished they finished making my wrap and all of the ingredients tasted SO fresh. I have a dairy allergy and appreciated the non-dairy vegan options they had. All the tables were clean and the bathrooms were clean as well. They also have a pretty outdoor dining space. They are a bit pricey, so be prepared. A wrap for me and my fiancé without fries, a side or a drink cost $32. Overall I would recommend this restaurant and will go back again in the future.

I came because my friend is addicted to this place and swears by it each time they went.....I might be a believer too now! I love shawarma and have been trying to find some for a LONG time and I was excited to find out this place existed!! Off the bat, super upbeat and vibrant environment, good music, it's a very spacious restaurant! The service was amazing!! Super personable and friendly! When my friends and I were asking about the menu, they took the time to explain every detail of it. MOST IMPORTANTLY, we were waiting for the rest of our group to show up and they offered us free falafels while we waited. It was definitely an unprompted gesture and I'm grateful to them for that. Food quality? You gotta hurry over there and find out ASAP! The meal tasted great, you definitely get good portions and if you get the meal option....expect quite a good amount of food on your plate. As good as it was, I couldn't finish my meal - thankfully they do take-out. **If you're military, they do a 10% military discount** 10/10 would definitely recommend!!!!
Service was outstanding, friendly staff. Food was equally great. Perfect for keto or low carb diets. I got the beef and husband got chicken. Did splurge on hummus, veggies and pickles. All were delicious. Plenty of food. Also kudos for very clean bathroom! Will visit again when in area!
I may have found my new favorite quick and easy lunch spot! Luckily for me, this location is right near an area that I come to often for appointments so it's an easy spot to stop at. They don't have their own parking, but it is easy to utilize the parking lot across the street. I came a bit after opening, around 11:30am to grab lunch to-go and was greeted with a very warm welcome. Right away, I was impressed by the hospitality and service that every employee provided. Smiles, suggestions, samples of their specialties. Service was seriously top-notch. For food, I ordered a bowl. You can also do a wrap or a pita, but figured I would get the best of both worlds with the bowl since it comes with a pita on the side. I was right. I got half chicken, half lamb/beef gyro. Although there was some in the tub available, the staff went above and beyond to shave some off the skewer in front of me, providing a very hot, fresh meal! Both meats were delicious, but I preferred the lamb/beef, as expected. I am not picky at all, so got a bit of all the toppings and sauces. The flavor combos were out of this world. I also got a side of falafel, which was fantastic and super reasonably priced. Don't skip on Mr. Shawarma!

Oh yeah this has great hummus. The shawerma-- both lamb/ beef and the chicken-- are super flavorful and lean. I love all the toppings and sauces. They have the fried eggplant, different pickles and veggies. This is healthy and delicious Fluffy pita Clean and friendly read more
I will be honest and say I see why it's never busy inside. It's over priced, I can literally go to Cava and get the same thing but cheaper and the people are a lot nicer. Food is mid and they really didn't give me an experience where I would want to come visit again. read more

Got the beef and lamb bowl with the tahini sauce. Decent amount of protein. Rice portion was on the smaller side ended up ordering an extra side order. Sauce tasted great over the lamb. Staff provided great service as well as information on the different flavor profiles. read more
Fantastic food, really great for a change of pace. Service is very nice and fast. Having the meat on a vertical spit that they shave off in front of you really lets you know you're getting quality ingredients. Coming back here absolutely! Ambiance is casual nice. read more
This is by far the best falafel i've had EVER! We read the article on their wall about the restaurant and i'm so glad to have been able to eat here twice.. thus far... and we're only here only 3 days. I was just telling my Hubby this morning that... i changed my statement.. this is actually THE BEST chicken shawarma ever! Upon entering the establishment I was greeted with the biggest smiles. I love the aesthetics of this restaurant is colorful and very inviting. The staff was very accommodating and super friendly. It is so hard to pick a favorite. The falafels were robust with Flavor. I can't believe that chickpeas could taste so good. The chicken Shawarma wrap was full of meat, and it was very juicy and tender. The sauce added an extra pizzazz. They also carry soup, which is Hardy and filling. The serving sizes are exceptional. Also had the beef and lamb pita. The meat was succulent and definitely hit the right spot. And of course I had to finish with their Turkish coffee. Same big flavors in bigger dining space. Outdoor spots too. Still my favorite falafel in 757. My fam LOVES that warm pita, served alongside any bowl meal...like a puffy heaven cloud complimenting the other fresh Mediterranean ingredients. Restrooms available, no dedicated parking so grab a spot in nearby p lots/streets. read more

For the area, not terrible and probably one of the better options around but still a little underwhelming unfortunately. Their falafel is a little dry and could be greener - a good falafel as I've learned from my middle eastern friends is crumbly, with plenty of green inside to signify thoroughly added herbs to give the chickpeas fragrance. Their meat (particularly their chicken) is well flavored but could be juicier. I like the variety of sides/authentic additions like hummus, eggplant, cucumber/tomato salad. Their fries aren't crispy but I actually kind of like it as it mixes with the hummus rice and meat well in this way, blending nicely texture wise. Since the area is hurting for good and authentic middle eastern spots I can see why it's so popular but there is def room for improvement and I'm rooting for that! read more

Loveeee this place! If you're not familiar with shawarma, it is roasted meat that is shaved off a spit into thin slices. I usually like to get half chicken and half beef & lamb in a bowl! You get to pick what goes in your food, similar to how Chipotle or Subway is set up - all the ingredients are in front of you and you can say how much or little of each ingredient you want! The food is always fresh and the different toppings bring crunchy and refreshing elements to the filling meat and rice base! Their pita is SOOO fluffy as well! This just made it to my list of favorite fast casual places to eat in Norfolk! I only wish I lived closer & my only regret from my first visit was that I didn't take a picture of the foood (I was too busy enjoying my shawarma bowl). Javi (I think that was his name) was the epitome of customer service and offered us some free falafel to snack on while we waited on some more of our friends. I was starving by the time I hit the line so sent it on a loaded beef & lamb shawarma bowl with a side of fries and a drink. Spoiler alert: every bowl comes with a full-sized pita pocket - perfect for making a pita if you are so inclined. Needless to say, I was sooo full by the end of the meal and walked out feeling very satisfied. In the future, I'd probably be more than fine with just the bowl...but loved my first experience and I will definitely be coming back! read more

I was shocked that I haven't rated that place 5 stars long time ago!! My bad!! This is one amazing Israeli Falafel & Shawarma joint!! The owner told me his family owns Mr Shawarma in Israel too!! Honestly it's obvious!! They are very authentic!!! REAL BEEF!! Shawarma !! Well spiced & balanced !! Juicy and have the right amount of healthy beef fat!! Chicken Shawarma is also AMAZING ! Hummus is very authentic too! Creamy and tasty!! Now, Falafel!! They really should claim themselves as Mr Shawarma & Falafel ! They do the Falafel the way it should be made and they serve out the way it should be served!!! Real Falafel is green from inside ( green like avocado) anytime you found yellowish Falafel from the inside , be careful .. you might like it but it's not the real Falafel that meant to be! At Mr Shawarma they only do Real and Good Falafel! Build the Falafel Sandwich my way and I promise you, YOU WON'T REGRET IT! Pita , Falafel , French Fries (Yesss, just listen to me!) , fried eggplants , tomato cucumber salad , onions & parsley and only tahini ! Take anything else you want but only on the side ( hummus , spicy sauce, cabbage, pickles, etc..) For Shawarma : Pita or wrap ,Beef Shawarma , onions , parsley and tahini , get a side of hummus and pickles Pita or wrap, chicken shawarma , onions, parsley and garlic sauce or tahini! Get a side of hummus and pickles Now will take about what make this experience UNIQUE!! The team and the owner!! That make you feel the most welcome! Hello Yelp Fam! Soooooo....this place was overall good. Good quality food. It's definitely Mediterranean Food! I just pointed and nodded so I can't really tell you what I indulged in. It was good though. Service was awesome and the waiters were very patient with me when they were building my pita. It's not food that I must have but it is food that I enjoyed. Hope that makes sense. Try it out for yourself! read more
