This restaurant is very clean, the customer service is great, and the food is fresh and tasty. I ordered the falafel wrap with hummus, jalapeño cilantro schug, fried eggplant, onions with sumac, fresh parsley, and cucumber and tomatoes topped with tahini sauce. Everything tasted fresh. When my fiancé and I walked in we saw that the there were only a few pieces of falafel left and asked if a fresh batch was being brought out soon. The employee that helped start our order asked one of the other employees to make a fresh batch of falafel. That employee was sweeping the floors when she was asked about the new batch of falafel and when she finished sweeping she immediately changed her gloves to work on the batch. When the batch was finished they finished making my wrap and all of the ingredients tasted SO fresh. I have a dairy allergy and appreciated the non-dairy vegan options they had. All the tables were clean and the bathrooms were clean as well. They also have a pretty outdoor dining space. They are a bit pricey, so be prepared. A wrap for me and my fiancé without fries, a side or a drink cost $32. Overall I would recommend this restaurant and will go back again in the future. read more

We were downtown today so i decided to try out a couple different places. Mr. Shawarma was on my list. So i put it in my gps and we were on our way!! Upon arriving we found a parking lot across the street from the restaurant. Which was great. Free parking!!! We went inside to order. They were helping others so we weren't exactly acknowledged, but the staff was very nice once we got to the counter to order. Its a line you walk down and choose the toppings you want. The first thing i got was hummus and skug. I'm not gonna lie when he put that smear of hummus in the bottom of the bowl i heard the bowl suck it up.. Lol. It wasn't even a spoonful. The cardboard bowls aren't a good idea to put alot of wet stuff in because my bowl got super soggy and started to collapse after a few minutes.. I do wish they'd give you a scoop of hummus on top instead of in the bottom of the bowl. I also got beef and lamb and schnitzel with sumac onions, cucumbers, eggplant, and garlic and tahini sauce and a side of falafel. The lamb was gritty gritty. I don't like weird textures in my mouth. So chewing it had some strange moments. It tasted kinda bland even with all those different ingredients. I had to throw it in the pan and cook it with seasoning once i got home. There was alot of cabbage so it overpowered everything before i cooked it. The amount of rice they give you is very small. I wish they had more options for toppings. I did enjoy the falafel. It was fresh and hot. Mmmm. The garlic sauce and spicy mayo were pretty good also. The schnitzel was sincerely flavorless!! My sister had the chicken shawarma bowl and was really turned off because it was so much fat. Lol. I saw her gag and it almost turned my stomach to. Then she pulled a huge chunk out that looked like a small baby chicken.. I will not be trying that again. This wasn't my favorite place. But I'd give them another chance possibly. The concept is cool and the restaurant was clean. Staff is pretty friendly. The prices are kinda high for the portion you get. All in all it was ok. This place has always been my favorite spot in Ghent. It's a very spacious space and plenty of parking nearby. And the food is just Yummy! I love the easy menu and how you can create your own. There's something for vegetarians and the meat lovers. Like Chipotle but Mediterranean style, you pick a bowl or pita sandwich with your choice of meat, veggies, sauces, hummus and etc. I love the eggplant and my hubby likes their home cut fries. There's a side station that has the pickled carrots and jalapeño, so when you add that to your creation, it becomes a matter piece! HA! The only dessert I can remember them having was the baklava. The selections for your meal include hummus original or you can add jalapeno or Habanero chow to it, turmeric rice, lentils, red cabbage tomato salad with diced cucumbers, natural cut fries, seasoned lightly, sumac onions tahini, just to name a few. Wraps, pita, bowl. Fresh falafel flowed from the fryer. Fresh made but a tad undercooked where the center is still raw. The flavors were all on point seasoned well with coriander cumin, garlic and paprika. Shawarma is street food, each but was delicious and filling hubby said they reminded him of Bahrain. Having used to live in Norfolk when I was a poor student, I could only visit this place maybe 1x/month which I lament now that I no longer have easy access to this place. Nowhere else can compare to the taste that I find here. Recently visited Norfolk and just had to make a trip back here. Friendly employee gave me some free falafels as a welcome back gift and the food was amazing as always. Over the years, I have noticed they make small adjustments to their available items to put in your pita/bowl. For example, they swapped out lentils for chick peas which I was disappointed about as I felt the taste/texture of the lentils complimented the flavors better. Just a tip: always opt for the bowl as the portions will be much more than a pita! They give a complimentary pita with the bowl anyways so you can make your own and still have over 50% of the bowl's content to eat. This place is just wonderful. First off, every staff member I've interacted with has been notably pleasant and helpful. The environment is welcoming and comfortable. Then there's the food! I've essentially gotten the same thing every time--I'm not usually a creature of habit, but I constantly crave this same thing each time. I order a falafel bowl with light hummus, rice, and nearly all of the toppings, and I switch up the sauce depending on my mood. The falafel is always delightfully crisp on the outside and bursting with flavor. The vegetables are fresh and the meal itself is very filling. I honestly wish they served a slightly smaller portion size, perhaps for lunch, because I can never seem to finish my bowl. Sometimes I wish they had a few more options for different toppings, but at the end of the day I've been satisfied by their traditional and robust offerings. I don't know what has happened to this place. It used to be my absolute favorite. They have changed the basics. They changed how they put the bowls together, some days they give you a lot of vegetables other days they are skimping. They used to have amazing pickles and this amazing carrot and jalapeño Concoction that was absolutely incredible. I just went in today and that is gone. My husband and I were stationed in Germany for many years and we used to get Doner Kebaps regularly but since we returned to the U.S. we haven't been able to find any food that compares to what we had there until we visited Mr. Shawarma. We both got Beef and Lamb Shawarma wraps and fries, and I got a piece of Baklava. The flavors and spice were perfect!! We also tasted a piece of falafel and we both loved that as well.
