Chicken Salad Sandwich and Signature Salad

Amazing food! Fresh, delicious! Stuff is very friendly and kind! So glad I found this place. Definitely coming back :) Very nice and peaceful atmosphere.

Prompt greeting at the door. Perfect temperature. Good bookstore music. Perfect lighting. Good menu options. I have no regrets visiting. I'll definitely be back. In just the 30 mins I had til closing, my chicken salad sandwich was made fresh and tasted so good. I was actually embarrassed when I bit into it because I was caught off guard with the warm bread and cool salad. I had to take a look at it as if I didn't know what was going on lol. It was the temperature difference that I never knew could exist on one sandwich so well. There's window booths to sit at or tables, who doesn't love the option of a view. I came for the biscuits (hence my books and biscuits rave) but they'd sold the last one right before I came in. Good reason to come back, even if it's just to encounter the lovely chef and waitress. They were so friendly and seemed like they enjoyed serving up a good sandwich! I imagine they get a few regulars in there, considering the farewell by name I heard. LOVE THAT. So cheery. Prince Books, connected to the cafe is so cute. It's small and have a nostalgic feel with the wood and carpet picks on decor. Although the size makes for a casual amount of books, the category of books are satisfying enough. I want to say that I found a little gem, but I have a feeling it's a big piece of waterside.

What a wonderful experience at this adorable cafe! They were very busy but the employees worked super hard to make sure everyone got their food quickly! You can even order on an app through their QR code to save time ordering. We will definitely come back again!

Lots of choices!

Very cute/quaint cafe. It's sharing space with Prince bookstore on Main Street in Norfolk. Forget Starbucks at a Barnes and Noble - this is the real deal! This cafe has salads, sandwiches, soups and wraps. The chef is really nice. I ordered biscuit with ham and ham as I already had lunch but gotta try something! I was told the biscuit is a good size. I had mine to go so let me rush home to take a picture and enjoy.

Yay for eco friendly!

My favorite thing about this place used to be the obviously dead plant in the window that looked more decrepit with every passing month. Since April 2019, Brian has taken over and there has been a lot more to love since then. The sweet potato ham biscuits were good before but they're even better now. The Jefferson combo is my favorite. Obviously fresh baked biscuits topped off with apricot jam and delicious surry ham. PLUS two sides. It's a lot of food for a great value. Though I get the same thing close to every time I enjoy trying the new soup selections. Haven't been disappointed yet and I don't think I will be. Finally, I really appreciate that when I get an order to go Lizard Cafe provides easily recycled brown paper take out bags. Definitely a great place to check out when looking for a casual lunch downtown.

I have walked by this bookstore so many times on my lunch break, but had no idea about the cute and cozy café inside! I decided to go with the half sandwich and soup combo and ordered the egg salad sandwich with the Mediterranean chick pea soup. While waiting for my food I browsed around the bookstore, which is a nice selection! After a short time, the pleasant waitress signaled over that the food was ready. The egg salad was a little on the bland side, but the soup was very tasty with chick peas, tomatoes and zucchini. I would definitely come back for that. I heard that the sweet potato biscuits were to die for so before checking out, I had decided to order one to go. It was nice and flaky, topped with some peach jam. The prices are a little on the high side for lunch....but I would come back again and cozy up to a nice cup a soup and a good book!

A sample of the country soup!

Terrible experience. Never again so rude. With so many coffee places around he needs to get a better handle on customer service.

Street parking directly out front on either side of the street. Inside is very charming in an older home with a beautiful patio outside to sit with vines growing around, charm and tons of seats inside both tables and bar. It is simplistic in decor but clean and modern. They have upped the menu and have much more food than my last visit. My friend ordered the salad and it was amazing! I was jealous! Tons of savory goodies inside like sweet potatoes and greens. I went with the bacon, egg and cheese sandwich and it's like a foot long. Absolutely huge. I couldn't eat it all and ended up taking half home, delicious and wonderful portion. Absolutely big enough to share. Staff super friendly and my oat milk latte was delicious. Def. going to come back again after my last experience!

My boyfriend and I ordered: Hazelnut latte - Excellent flavor and notes throughout the entire beverage. He chugged this drink and he RARELY does that. Coconut latte - I really appreciated how this had true authentic flavors of coconut without the sugary additives that other shops use. This was a delicious drink! Goat Cheese Waffle - The sugar crusted waffle mixed with a runny egg and goat cheese in the middle was the best way to start my morning! I highly recommend this! Banh Mi - They were surely not shy with the protein in this sandwich and it was dripping in the delicious concoction of sauces from the chicken as well as the vegetable slaw that was added! Only downside was that the wait was over 40 minutes for both the food and lattes, in all else I may opt to come back another day it wasn't as busy.

Date of Visit: Tuesday, March 3…read more Sometimes the best discoveries are the ones you aren't looking for. I was actually on my way to Chelsea Bakehouse when I happened upon Vessel, and I am so glad I did. The Atmosphere: A Coffee Lover's Dream The second I walked in, I was hooked--they have their own roaster right there in the shop. There's something special about a small business that roasts its own beans rather than pulling bags off a shelf. You can tell they take the craft seriously, and as someone who has been diving deep into the world of small-batch roasting lately, it was an immediate win. The Order: Off-Menu Customization I decided to go off-script. I saw a Brown Sugar Espresso on the menu but was really in the mood for something chilled, so I asked for a Brown Sugar Cold Brew. The barista (I didn't catch her name, unfortunately!) was fantastic. She was incredibly informative about their coffee profiles and didn't hesitate to customize my drink. We even chatted about the roasting process--I'm really hoping they follow through with the idea of hosting classes on different beans and roasting techniques in the future! The Verdict The Taste: The cold brew itself was excellent. The brown sugar flavor was subtle and not overly sweet, which I appreciated. It let the quality of the coffee shine through. The Kick: Whatever they're roasting works. That cold brew hit the spot and kept me alert and productive for the rest of the day. Vessel was well worth the detour. If you're a fan of fresh, house-roasted beans and staff who actually know their stuff, this is a must-visit. I'll definitely be returning.

I learned quite a bit that was unexpected. For example they sent Norfolk tap water to France for testing and it received great ratings on its cleanliness and lack of particulates. After the class I spoke to the staff before ordering a drink. They close at 2 and it was almost that time so they were out of the drink I initially wanted to try. Instead I tried a blueberry lime espresso tonic which was different and I enjoyed it. (I have even started making them at home). Overall I recommend this shop it has a nice open feel and positive vibe. They also sell their own coffee blends, they roast beans in house and make their own syrups from scratch for the drinks.

The price of a large coffee was $2.00 about a year ago, now it's $2.35. And the coffee or breakfast sandwiches aren't even good. Unfortunately, the choices to get something for breakfast is either Dancing Goat, Auntie Anne's, Subway, or the NEX (which is overly priced too). The galley isn't an option anymore due to the Comfort being out. I think I will stick with my brewed coffee in my workspace from here on out.

It's not a sit down restaurant, it's more of a huge kiosk. There are few tables and chairs around though. I've had coffee here twice, and surprisingly, their plain $1.90 medium coffee was better than the fancy $5 espresso drink that I had last time! They provide a couple of different flavored (Coffee Mate) creamers and milk (self serve, and on the side.) They offer coffee, different Espresso drinks like macchiatos, cappuccinos, the usual. Their bagels are bomb though. Ask for them to toast it... it's got the perfect chew, and is still soft. I hate a stiff (too tough) bagel! My total today for a medium coffee, which I added French Vanilla creamer to, & toasted bagel with cream cheese was $5.10! Pleasant surprise. I already took $7 out of my wallet, thinking it would be that much. I'll just get this again next time. Good deal! (Hopefully there won't be a next time visit though.) The workers are hit or miss, some more pleasant than others. The Dancing Goat gets 3.5 stars from me!
