Today's special. Korean BBQ
Kaitlin E.

If you work in this area, this is a prime choice for lunch. The ladies who work here are excellent cooks. They also seemed kind and gracious. I've only been here once since I'm rarely ever in this office park for long. For that reason, I can't provide much info on their menu or daily specials. The day I was there they were offering a Korean BBQ. She described the dish to me in detail and offered me a sample which I declined because I knew I was going to love it, and I did. The beef was flavorful and juicy. It's served with white rice and a salad with vinegar based dressing. The meal was hot, fresh, and delicious. It was under $10 including the drink. At this place, you order at the counter then get your cup and grab a drink while you wait. The dining area is tiny, approximately 8 tables that seat 2 people. There is no restroom, however, just a short walk down the hallway toward the building's lobby, there are large, clean restrooms. I was there after the lunch rush around 2:00 so I don't know if space is an issue during lunch peak. Since it's in a office park, most customers probably work in the building or an adjacent building and can just go back to their office to eat. If I'm in the area for lunch again I'm definitely going back to see what other specials they offer.

Chef was very helpful. Bread for sandwiches was fresh, and they have small batch coffee. Look forward to going again.

Their regular pour coffee is also good. They are very friendly, but as it is very popular, it normally takes a while to receive your food/drinks. As for food, they have a lot of great options. My son loves their scones. I wouldn't recommend their avocado toast, as the avocado is packaged and not fresh. It doesn't have a nice flavor.

It has a very clean minimal decor vibe but is still very welcoming and comfortable. There are large tables, sofas, a nice bar and arm chairs to gather in and the music is loud enough to mute conversations but not so loud as to disturb the vibe. The menu is simple. Coffees, teas seasonal drinks, sandwiches and pastries. My husband and I were taking a quick break from. Hopping and decided on drinks and a pastry. We ordered the grinch matcha latte, a gingerbread latte and a spinach feta pastry. Omg both of us loved the grinch. I've been searching for a matcha I could enjoy and this is it! All the right notes: not too sweet, creamy and the matcha well blended in the milk-think no grainy residue at the end. If I'm in the matcha mood I'm coming to get this. The grinch was so good I think it made the gingerbread latte less exciting but it was still delicious! The expresso was strong so for a non Coffee drinker like me it wasn't my favorite but my husband thought it was great. The pastry came out hot and was delicious. Everything came out fairly fast so even with the crowd we were there less than 30 minutes. I want to come back and try more drinks and a salad that seems up my alley. Please check out this locals establishment. You won't be disappointed!!

Pale Horse Coffee is owned by retired military who I thanked for there service. Inside, the line moved pretty consistently with averages of 10-12 people waiting to order and pick up their beverages. For food, they only had some fresh made egg burritos pre-wrapped and in a warming display and a few fresh baked muffins. Their coffee selection and flavors to add are pretty tremendous and if you love coffee, you'll love this place because their service is so warm and friendly, just like their beverages. They offer free wifi which makes this place a great hang out for humans and their furry friends. On the morning that I stopped in there were 3 of the most beautiful and well behaved golden retrievers waiting patiently for their dog bone treat while their people waited for their drinks. Many other people were having business meetings and working remote. There is outside seating as well as plenty of seating inside and just as many electric outlets to keep the technology charged while the body charges from their delicious coffee. Parking is also free for up to 2 hours in the garage behind the shops. This is a wonderful well run coffee place!

A total nightmare to get to for logistically, but totally worth the hassle and the drive. This place is tiny so we lucked out getting seats. There are a few seats on a low top bar facing the street and a few more high top bar seats facing the kitchen. Not ideal for socializing, but we made it work, I found this place to be extremely kid-friendly even though it isn't necessarily catering towards kids. Tons of great food options - highlights being the strawberry french toast and the chicken bacon ranch wrap. Pretty sure these are both specials for February, but gosh they should keep them year-round. The gentleman cooking was great - from food to service. My coffee was good. Not superb, but hit the spot. My biggest wish for coffee shops is always homemade syrups but at least they use Monin. Overall, great experience and will definitely be back next time I stumble upon the area.

I love their options of drinks an biscuits, I've especially been craving their bacon and cheddar biscuit since I've last had it, and it's nice to go to a cafe that dos things a little differently than the standard! One thing I also adore about this location is how they will host small markets on the lawn outside the house! One time me and my friend finished chatting and having coffee and we unknowingly walked outside to see a bunch of vendors that weren't there before! It was so fun to walk around and speak with everyone, they were all so sweet and I ended up buying multiple things unplanned! I will say it can be a tight squeeze between the doorway and the counter when ordering as the hallway is small and the line can grow rapidly. But if it's not cold outside or busy there then it's not really an issue at all! I'm sad that they aren't open past 1-2PM most days, but that's understandable given the business they run and thier location! Overall, I couldn't recommend tho place more for anyone wanting a new study spot or place to try out in general in VB!

The decor has Polynesian touches, the drinks and food nod to Samoan flavors (like taro and Spam musubi), and you can tell it's a true family business built with a lot of pride and hard work. My friend and I first heard about this spot and literally drove about 25 minutes from Ghent Norfolk over to Bel-Aire Norfolk just to try it out, and it still remains one of our favorite coffee shops in Norfolk. Totally worth crossing town for. On my first visit, I got the Apelu Island Iced Latte, a Taro Cupcake with vanilla icing and toasted coconut, and a Spam Musubi with egg. That combo right there? Dangerous. The latte was smooth and lightly sweet with that pretty taro purple, the cupcake was super moist with the coconut giving it that little crunch on top, and the Spam Musubi with egg was the perfect salty-savory bite to go with my coffee instead of the usual basic breakfast sandwich. Second visit, I pulled back up for their Taro Pumpkin Roll Latte with oat milk (one of their fall specials), and I'm still thinking about it. It tasted like fall but with that island twist; cozy, a little earthy from the taro, and not overly sweet. Just really well-balanced and comforting. The staff has been warm and welcoming every time I've gone in; smiling, chatting with customers, and making it feel like a neighborhood spot even if you drove in from across town. It's the kind of place where you can sit, catch up with a friend, get some work done, or just enjoy your drink and snack without feeling rushed. If you're anywhere in Norfolk and haven't tried Apelu Island Cafe yet, go. From the lattes to the taro treats to the musubi, it's one of those places that makes you want to become a regular.
