This has been on the bucket list for a while and with today's perfect brisk weather, it made the perfect choice. We ordered: Rose Latte w/ Oatmilk - Delectably fragrant and sweetness the flavor choice added. Pumpkin Spice Latte w/ Oatmilk - Wasn't overpowering in the slightest which can be a hit or miss, but this item did not disappoint. Henry Anthony - Refreshing and filling choice to have this morning. Starving Artist Burrito w/ Sausage Gravy - The gravy makes an immaculate combination. The eggs were cooked to absolute perfection!
Great spot. Super cute. Loved the vibe. Chai Latte was delish. I had the breakfast burrito and it was really tasty. My boyfriend had eggs Benedict and enjoyed his food and said the eggs were really well prepared. We also shared the croissant French toast which was really good Service however was a little slow. We had emoty waters, coffees and sat for quite a while waiting for boxes/the check. All in all a great brunch.
Super cute shop! Love the local art work. Staff was very kind and offered us samples while we were making our order decisions. Green teas were delicious!
I've had this place on my list for a while now, and decided to swing by for lunch after a workout class. It was a Sunday around 12:30 and decently busy inside, but no wait! I ordered a pumpkin spice latte that was delicious, and their lunch special which includes a half sandwich, cup of soup, and a side. The soups and sides rotate daily! Today it was chicken noodle and a pasta caprese salad. The soup was okay, a little heavy on the thyme and light on the salt, but still pretty good. I really enjoyed the B.L.A.T with dill mayo. Inside was cosy, nothing special but has a very hometown vibe to it with (of course) lots of local art. Will return and try the pastries next time--they seemed to be out of a lot, but I won't fault them for that on a Sunday!

They sell jewelry and stuff. I don't know if the artists are local, but probably. I'm not opposed to a restaurant that also sells jewelry, but I go for the food. The menu is not super extensive, but they have some variety. I went for brunch and ordered the biscuits and gravy. The sausage was bland, and the gravy was thin. Also, the gravy looked to be separating. The biscuits were nothing special, but the gravy and the sausage were not good, as is said, bland. I don't think I would go back.
Love the cute decore outside and inside very artistic! The waitress we're very nice and very attentive, but my dish I feels the dish over priced. I ordered the French scramble it was tasty, but could have added 1 more egg for the price you pay $13.50. You can't tell from the pic cause it's spread out. Other then that not to bad.

The thing that surprised me is the burrito was just a burrito: no salsa, sour cream or a side. A side of potatoes, fruit, or salad would be nice. It just needed more. The $5 peach mimosa was fine. I'd prefer if the juice was made in house. I think everything could just be a little bit more.
Starving Artist is a great brunch place in the ODU area. I tried the breakfast bowl that consisted of scrambled eggs, potatoes, spinach and Turkey sausage. However, you can build your own to your liking. Despite it being almost a full house, the food was served pretty quickly and our server check on us quite often. I must say, I was still left hungry after eating my dish that I ended up ordering their croissant French Toast. It exceeded my expectations and it's something I must have when I come back. The texture was perfect, where there was decent crunch and not too soft/soggy after applying syrup. The taste balance between the croissant and the toast was amazing. As an artist I do like that they actually have local art up for display and purchase. There's a duality of supporting local businesses within the establishment. The only negative I have, is that they were out of oatmilk. Other than that I highly suggest Starving Artist if you're in the area and looking for a good place to eat!
Brunch is the best! I don't do brunch often but this place had a fancy vibe to it. It had a bar and the music was nice. The service was awesome and friendly, they serve fresh OJ and refilled my water without asking which is a plus. I'd like to come back The menu isn't extensive but just enough for the size of the establishment Love their storebrand hotsauce. It wasn't so hot, just enough spice to notice what I was eating.

Sweet and small, but inviting! Very nice staff, great specials, good cocktails. There's a small outside area, too, to enjoy the accommodating weather. We had great service, I had the chicken salad croissant, good chunks of chicken breast with a great, not too creamy, mayonnaise blend. My daughter and son-in-law had eggs and pancake breakfast. Hot and fresh. There is a good selection of baked goods, on display, to order or take home. A lot of paintings, that make up the decor, are available for sale. read more
We popped in for breakfast today and got the Chorizo Breakfast Bowl, the croissant French toast to share, and the Monte Cristo. Not only was our food ready so quick, the ladies working were so sweet and welcoming. The food was pretty good. The star of our meal was the French toast. And the Monte cristo was a close second. This cute cafe also has pastries that you can see as you walk in! I will definitely be back for more! read more

Small and cute in atmosphere with a decent amount of seating given its size. Staff was friendly. I ordered a mimosa ($5= awesome price). I ate the Vegan Sausage "hash" which was really a salad, an overpriced salad for the small size that it was. My friends both got the Starving Artist Burritos. Both underwhelmed. All three of us left as Unsatisfied Artists. read more

Cute place for brunch. I was in the area & decided to stop for brunch. The name of the restaurant lured me in. I parallel parked on the side street, but I also saw a parking lot. I'm not sure if the parking lot was meant for the restaurant or not. I noticed there was art work(paintings) on the wall with sale prices. Pretty dope that you could purchase a painting to take home if you liked it. I was seated immediately. I ordered eggs Benedict, 1 chocolate chip pancake, orange juice, & a matcha latte. Took 25minutes for my food to come out. I don't know maybe it's because I ordered Benedict? The table next to me ordered breakfast burritos and their food came out fairly quick. read more
It was a rainy Sunday and we were able to grab seat at the bar. The inside isn't fancy but it's clean and the staff was friendly and attentive to us as soon as we entered. The food was very good! We both bowls and a half order of the sausage biscuits and gravy to share. The carnitas bowl was very good, my only note is that carnitas (to me) is more like a pork shoulder/butt that's often shredded. The carnitas in this bowl was more like sausage. It still tasted good but it wasn't what I expected. My husband got the daily special, a brisket bowl. He really enjoyed it. Last but not least, the sausage gravy was delicious. I'm used to gravy looking more white so when it came out I was skeptical but they really delivered on flavor! I would 100% order that again! read more
Another fabulous brunch find as brunch continues to be my favorite thing in the history of ever. I've been driving past this for years and most recently, very aware of it as I've started going to nearby Daphne's Salon for my hair. My friend and I arrived at 1:30 for brunch and they close at 2. I asked if we could eat and they said sure so we sat at an empty patio table. We ended up being the only people from then on. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful with menu questions. I chose to go with the french scramble because it sounded amazing, and it was. It's a generous portion for the price: $11. It comes with probably 3 scrambled eggs, red peppers chopped really fine, avocado, spinach and goat cheese. Two strips of bacon and a toasted english muffin. The eggs were to die for - so delicious - they didn't even need any extra seasoning or sauce on them. I almost licked my plate. Soooo good. My friend chose a Womlette which is basically an egg omelette made in a waffle maker. She loved it as well. We sat for a bit but didn't wanna stay too long, although we were offered gelato and told kindly that we didn't need to rush because it was OK while they cleaned up. I love that they have local artists work on the walls, it's for sale, and that it changes. I loved the menu and I LOVED my scramble. Yum yum yum. A new fav for brunch in this area for sure! read more

My wife and I came here on a beautiful Friday morning after a fantastic workout at CycleBar in Hilltop. We saw this place in a post on Instagram in which the poster claimed Starving Artist Cafe has the best brunch in Norfolk, VA. Given that one of our favorite brunch spots, Cure (also reviewed on Yelp for you), is also in Norfolk, we had no choice but to check it out. For starters, since times are tough for a lot of people right now, here are the average prices per category on the menu: "Breakfast Anytime" - $10.61 "Handhelds" - $10.16 "Lunch Sandwiches" - $10.20 "Salad/Soup" - $10.87 "Coffee/Tea" - $3.85 As always, I included photos of the menu with prices included. Between my wife and I, we ordered the following items: Drinks: Irish Coffee, Caramel Latte Food: Breakfast Grilled Cheese, Starving Artist Special Starting with drinks, my wife said her latte was simple yet great, not too sweet and also not too strong. My Irish coffee was PHENOMENAL, made with Jameson (and not poured lightly either, which was surprising for $7). It was warm on the chest, not too strong but strong enough to know you're drinking a good Irish coffee. For food, I had the breakfast grilled cheese. I was stuck between the two, and waitress recommended the grilled cheese. It was a great sandwich, with bacon, avocado and some other things. The toast wasn't too crispy or too soft/soggy, it was not very greasy, and it was light yet filling. My wife really enjoyed her starving artist special, a simple breakfast plate. The shop doesn't have much for parking, but at the time we were there, there was sufficient street parking right in front of and right down the street. They have a very cute outdoor patio area with 3 or 4 tables. The inside has some tables and some booths, as well as a bar area. The drinks were priced fair enough that I would definitely sit there and have a couple lunch time drinks. I included some photos of the inside of the cafe for reference. The staff was very friendly, attentive, but not overcrowding. If you're looking for a nice breakfast / brunch / lunch spot, I definitely recommend this place. We live in VB but made the drive to check it out, and it was well worth it. We'll definitely be going back! read more

The service was beyond spectacular !! Even with a full house and one server, she was sweet, kind , and super fast. The mimosas we really good. I recommend the peach pear. However, I would only come here for the ambiance because the food was not the best. I got biscuits and gravy, super watery, under seasoned, and honestly smelled a little weird. I had to drown it in hot sauce, salt and pepper. Also got croissant French toast and it was burnt and had a weird strawberry filling that tasted like nothing lol. The chorizo bowl was good tho. So 1/3 meals was a go lol. read more

This place is very cozy! I love the food and their Mimosa with fresh lemon juice is our favorite! It's a small place but so cozy! Also the service is good and the serving, waiting of the food is not a long wait! We definitely gonna come back here!. read more

Stopped here for some brunch and wasn't too busy when we arrived. The inside was nicely decorated and gave off a real homey vibe. I ordered a mimosa and I think they used freshly squeezed orange juice because there were some pulp bits in there which I didn't mind at all. We ordered our food and it honestly did take awhile for it to arrive to us. A couple had came and sat next to us about 40 minutes after we ordered and they received their food shortly after we did. Other than that everything else was great. The french toast is actually croissants just kind of smashed down but honestly they were perfectly flakey and super yum as well. The Starving Artist special was good too! Nothing too wow but it sure did hit the spot! Can't wait to come back to check out their other items :) read more

Solid 3.5 overall dive. Why the 4 star? Wordplay'd name and motto, literally "painted" on the wall - "Where Palette meets Palate." Cool chill vibe, like you're eating in a local art gallery, with a full service bar. Breakfast and lunch menu offerings are reasonably priced especially for the fair portions. Outdoor seating, gender neutral restroom, typical Ghent street parking. Good for singles, couples, small and large groups. Lunch on Wednesday. Server was friendly and informative, gave popular menu suggestions. My lone gripe was the pace/speed of attention. Place was just under half full and it took my friend and I nearly 90 minutes for start to finish meal experience; way too long for working folks! Frida Kahlo sandwich (Turkey, Brie, cranberry jelly, strawberry) was good; swapped out sourdough for croissant with no pushback; coleslaw side had an odd consistency, almost like they added hollandaise? At any rate, I wouldn't get it again. Friend ordered a French Dip sans bread and a side salad. In his words, "deconstructed sandwich was good, salad was average." As our last brunch before we left Virginia to head down to Charlotte, we wanted to get something quick to eat before the drive. Starving Artist Cafe popped up and we decided to check it out and see what it was all about. When you walk in, they have a full bar here and might I say that it's a very artist thing to do. Alcohol and drugs right? Haha. Anyways, let's just get to why you're reading, the food and is it worth it? In my opinion, the food was just okay. I think part of the 3 star review is because of how long it took to serve it too. Something that caught my eye was the womlette, which is what I got. It was basically an omelette that was shaped like a waffle, get it? The womlette itself was okay, there wasn't really anything exciting about it but it was unique in that it was shaped like the waffle. I'm guessing they just made it in a waffle iron. It was also served with some potatoes and your choice of bread. It was okay, nothing special or exciting, but it filled me up. Overall, takeaways from my experience was the wait time, and the average quality when it came to the food. If you're an artist though, I think to always support your local businesses, and this place seems like an awesome place to hang out and drink as well. read more
