This has become our new regular. We have been coming almost weekly since my last review and I wanted to update. Old fashioneds are still great! They are my husband's go to drink. I usually get a martini, also great! and add in Gluten Free offerings and I'm sold! The wait staff are always so friendly and helpful. They have lunch specials which I have tried a few and have never been disappointed. I don't have a go to but the last time we went I enjoyed the Spanish chicken & rice and it was amazing. You get a decent serving so it usually ends up being a few meals for me. My husband got the crispy chicken sandwich with pickles on the side. He may not like them but I do! They are some of the best :D And we always get some of the homemade honey mustard sauce on the side for their fries. We have never been disappointed and I have not had an issue with their gluten free offerings. This is one of our faves and we will continue to come back over and over :) read more

I loved the entrance and the playlist, and the appetizers were exceptional--the hush puppies and fried pickles were highlights, and the mashed potatoes were delicious. I did find that the chicken could have been baked longer and might benefit from a different sauce to better complement the dish. Visited & got lucky that it was Wednesday - 10 for $10 wings. We started with pimento & tater tots appetizer. The pimento was just okay - I wouldn't order it again, the texture wasn't quite what I expected. The tater tots were quite garlicky & very crispy! For entrees naturally we had to get wings. This was my first visit so I wasn't sure what to expect but the wings plain without sauce are so good and flavorful. I actually love the idea of the sauce served on the side! We came for a late lunch. It was a beautiful day so we sat on the patio. The patio was a nice area with shade in the afternoon. The service was good but it could've been better. The food, we started with the Chicken Fried Cheese Curds which were delicious. I had the Spicy Pimp with fries and my wife had the Hot Honey Caesar Wrap. The fries were almost under cooked on both our meals. Both our chicken tasted burnt almost like bad oil in the fryer possibly. I have never seen fried chicken cutlets before but, It was disappointing. Drinks: I had the Love in a Trash can which tasted fine but, it was expensive for a small amount. My wife had the Starboard Drift and you couldn't taste the coconut. It was okay but also expensive for a small drink. Overall it was a bad experience for us. I would not recommend. Minimal to no flavor, came cradled in 2 pieces of toast that overpowered the meal. I took the chicken out of the toast just to eat it. Thought the wings would be the savior. Came in a dry rub that was... dry. No juice, no flavor, even with sauce barely finished 3 wings. Waited over 60 minutes, and the food we got was disappointing. You're better off going somewhere else, for chicken (at least the sandwiches). This is one of my favorite restaurants, mainly because of the roasted chicken and the roasted carrots. That meal alone is one of the best I've had in a long time. The restaurant is a little on the pricey side, but some of the items are absolutely worth it. On my last visit, I ordered a 3-piece chicken to go, all white meat, and it came to about $11. I received one breast and two very small wings. In hindsight, I should've just ordered the 2-piece white meat fried chicken for around $9 if I had known the wings would be that small. For me personally, some items are hit or miss, but there are a lot of things on the menu that I really enjoy. I don't care for the sweet tea or the Arnold Palmer, but that's just my taste. You really have to go and try the menu for yourself to see what you like. Overall, I love this restaurant. The wait staff are always friendly and welcoming, and the owner is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. His personality truly reflects in the restaurant. The ambiance--from the entrance, to the dining area, to even the bathrooms--is top notch. The crowd is always pleasant, and it's never a loud or uncomfortable atmosphere. This place is definitely a must-try. My taste buds may be different from everyone else's, but that's exactly why you should go and experience it for yourself. Always a great experience eating at this place! A group of six of us came to dine around 5/5:30 and there was no wait. We were seated quickly and our waitress was amazing !! Their chicken is always perfectly tender and perfectly seasoned. I opted to get the house salad, which comes with various toppings. Eric and the crew also have more than just chicken, my favorite app is the fried cheese curds (think mini cheese sticks with a fantastic dipping sauce). I ordered the strawberry chicken salad which was fresh just a couple of wilted leaves but it was still good. The basalmic glaze added to the flavor. I ordered a two piece friend chicken platter. Not bad but was kind of sweet, probably to mask the cheap whiskey. Bartender was friendly and we were served quickly. Breaded to perfection, seasoned underneath that breading, fried to PERFECTION, juicy and the hot had heat and the honey is sweet. Fresh house made pickles, and delicious soft n chewy bread. The sandwich is 5 stars. I also had the cheese curds, (delicious), the deviled eggs (delicious), and the banana pudding (delicious). Everything hit the way it was supposed to! The food was fresh, the menu is plentiful with all sorts of dishes and drinks to compliment them. I got a vodka drink with a melon soda mixer called a slime ball which was refreshing that I would drink that again too. Parking is scarce on the block, but there's a parking garage across the street so it was easy getting a spot. I will DEFINITELY make it back to this place again to experience more of the menu. I'm really happy I found this new gem. My boyfriend was looking for gluten free options in the area and when we saw GF fried chicken options, we knew we had to try it. First thing I noticed when I walked in was that the music was great. I loved the old school hip hop. Gabby the bartender was amazing! I picked up to-go order and when I had to Come all the way back because some of my order was missing, Gabby made it right. I'm a fan of her and the restaurant for life. This is the best I've seen a restaurant handle a mistake in a while, and it's greatly appreciated. The gluten free BLT+C was amazing. It's hard to find gluten free fried chicken, so I'm so excited we found this spot. The GF bun was soft and the chicken was crispy. I also appreciated it was a big piece of chicken. Came here with a big group for a bday dinner. This was my first time here. The restaurant is nice and modern and the reception area reminded me of an art gallery. We immediately went to our table and our server was already taking drink orders. He was very good especially with our big group. He already had a system going and had us by numbers so he wouldn't mix up orders. They had a pretty good menu with fried chicken, chicken sandwiches, salads and apps. To start we ordered the deviled eggs and for our entree we got the apple cheddar salad with 2 chicken tenders and the 3 piece dark. The food came out pretty quick. The deviled eggs were a tad bit on the salty side for me. The fried chicken was crunchy and flavorful there's also dipping sauces, my fave was the hot honey. My salad was pretty huge but came drenched in dressing as I forgot to tell them to keep the dressing on the side. I typically don't like a lot of dressing and it defeats the purpose of having a salad lol. I would like to come back to try their chicken sandwiches. Others at our table ordered them and like them. Service and atmosphere were both great. Our server was super enthusiastic about the menu items and gave some good recommendations. As should be the case, they do chicken extremely well. We ordered a few different chicken items and they were all fantastic. Not quite as expected.. the cheese curds. FANTASTIC. I didn't realize I was a cheese curd snob, but apparently I am and these are the best I've ever had. The seasoning was pristine. We got the Cobb salad which was much more wedge-like which we didn't love. We both wished that it was served more like a traditional Cobb, just personal preference. It matches the energy of this new "Summit Point" area (basically, Chesapeake wanted a Va Beach Town Center and a Norfolk Granby street of their own). And keeping with this posh theme of the other eateries and spots in this area, Near Bird fits right in. The music is sleek, the seating is not quite plain but it's not exactly upscale either. Water is served without ice--it's giving very "California" (but you know The food gives this "fusion" vibe. My husband ordered Pork Belly Burnt Ends which was served with Chinese spice cured cherry, toki BBQ and pickled veggies and turikake. I don't even know what this is. I know he said it was DELICIOUS. He would come back here just to eat this again. The waitstaff is friendly. I like that. Their attire, however, does not match the setting. The staff have this "wear whatever you want/grunge/casual" vibe going on. And with no name tags, they don't even look like they work here. They gave decent portions but we couldn't finish because of the saltiness. There is a difference between seasoned and salty. These were almost inedible. Also, I'm not sure if they're short staffed but there was a man there waiting tables who looked like a customer off the street. No uniform or neat attire. The establishment wasn't very clean either.
