I liked the look and feel of this restaurant. It went well with the barrel theme. At the entrance they had barrels that also doubled as ash treys and on the were placed all over the restaurant and even used to as light fixtures from the ceiling. The waitress and bar tender were super nice and helpful with menu recommendations. I order their fried shrimp appetizer which came with 8 large shrimp and a side of tater tots. It was tasty but lacked seasoning. When I sat down, I noticed a lot of salt on the table....i understood why haha as I found myself sprinkling salt throughout out. They were crunchy and tender on the inside. Getting to this location was super easy and they own their own parking lot which is free for patrons. If you're not able to find parking, they have plenty of paid street parking. I also want to add that they do offer discounts but to service members who are in uniform. Service members rarely ever wear their uniforms just to dine out unless they are on official orders or are working full time. I find that a bit unfortunate because the value veterans and military service members bring should be honored while they are and are not in uniform so I hope that the management changes that policy someday. They offer no other forms of discounts as I asked about teachers and emergency personnel too just to give people something additional when seeking this place out. I ate at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront location on a busy Friday night. Originally I had gone to try Frank & Patty's but there was a two-hour wait, so I walked here instead. Now I wish I had waited. I love the wall upon entering Barrel. It says "I'd rather be someone's shot of whiskey than everyone's cup of tea" or something like that. Very cute. There's a huge horseshow shaped bar in the back too, which I probably would have enjoyed twenty years ago. I was sat immediately with my party of four and our server was friendly, but again, very busy, so we saw him maybe twice throughout our meal. Onto the worst part: my meal. I ordered a "create your own burger". I love menus that have a create your own option because I'm pretty darn picky. I got their regular beef patty in a lettuce wrap with grilled pineapple. Tater tots on the side (which always remind me of the character in Napoleon Dynamite, ha). You guys when my food came I couldn't believe what I was looking at. An overdone burger ON TOP OF some flimsy lettuce and, I kid you not, five bits of pineapple no bigger than my thumbprint. What?? Not to mention the tots tasted sweet. It's a newer restaurant that occupies the old Mermaid Winery location in Ghent, and it's a burger bar! I really like that they have a decent variety of burgers to choose from. You can even build your own burger, which is what I chose to do. I loved that they had at least 3-5 options for every category, except for the bun. The temperature of the burger and egg were cooked perfectly to my request. They also have a decent-sized drink menu with a variety of cocktails. The one thing they could improve on is including drink prices on the menu; the only pricing I saw was related to happy hour. The service was good, too! My waitress, Cat, was able to give good recommendations. It's a cute little restaurant tucked away on the backside of the plaza, so it can be easy to miss. Overall, I liked it, and they also had ample patio seating. My only complaints were that my fries were lukewarm, and while the burgers were slightly pricey, the pricing wasn't terrible. HOWEVER, they asked us for temps when we ordered and all burgers came out medium well. 3 of our 8 orders arrived incorrect and had to be either augmented or re-made. Vibe is lacking... place felt very bright and stark and sterile and lacked character. Between the lack of ambience and what seemed to be kitchen problems, I won't be rushing back. Great bar service with a fun atmosphere for a Saturday night. The food was amazing. I got the double bacon cheeseburger and my fiancé ordered the BLT hotdog (which was fantastic). The pimento cheese and fried pickle appetizer was to die for and I will definitely be ordering that again. Looking for lunch last Friday and thanks to Yelp, we found this hidden gem! It's in a beautiful location, but not visible from the street. Look it up and. Heck if out - you won't be disappointed. The menu is straight forward pub kind of fare. We started with the soft pretzel, because that's what we do when there's one on the menu. It came out soft and hot with mustard and a cheese sauce. The cheese sauce was done well, definitely not canned nacho cheese. The burgers are waygu beef and they are amazing. Cooked the way you order (mine was the perfect mid rare), there are lots of interesting creations. Since this was our first visit, I did the build your own - cheddar and pickles for me. The side salad was fresh and the blue cheese dressing had plenty of blue cheese chunks. It was the perfect size for a side. Hubby had the Philly chicken - he raved about it. Chunks of grilled chicken and plenty of cheese on a soft tasty bun. His side was tater tots, and we enjoyed them as well. They were served piping hot and well seasoned. I was visiting Norfolk for work and all of the restaurants in the vicinity of my hotel were mediocre 's' . I pulled up Yelp in the parking lot and decided a burger sounded good. Off the beaten path but sooooooo worth it. Jess is an amazing bartender and server and makes you feel like you've known each other forever. The name implies a dark, oaky, speak easy vibe but it's more industrial, hipster microbrew. The food and service more than make up for the hostile man bun persona. Been here a bunch of times, food is consistently delicious. They have a small patio at the side so my little dog can come tag along which is a big plus for me. Beer selection rotates and they usually have a tasty hazy beer which pairs well with the burgers. I've had bites of my friends plates and I've enjoyed everything, but my go to is the jammin GOAT, their "award winning" burger. Idk which award, but if I were a judge on the panel I'd probably give the jammin goat an award too. Service is always very friendly and attentive, Katie and Jimmy are fantastic.
