Tuna tartar... I should have taken the Pic before I started eating, hahaha.

What a GREAT meal. The service was amazing. The site is beautiful. Thank you to the staff and thank you to Chef T who recommended the chef's counter for our special evening. Every course was delicious. The tuna tartar was luscious. The burrata salad was rich. The duck was succulent. The octopus was crispy and delicious. And, the desserts.... I couldn't eat anymore but there was no way I was leaving any behind. The cocktails were delicious- the green and amber were our favorite. Would recommended, 5 out of 5.

    Still celebrating my birthday

I have received so much positive feedback from close friends about this establishment... so I had to try it for myself! I was able to make dinner reservations fairly quickly via Open Table. Street parking can be a bit challenging but there are many Public Parking garages within walking distance. 6:45 pm on a Wednesday will give you a feeling of having the restaurant open just for you and your special occasion. As the night progresses they seem to have a healthy flow of guests. I was celebrating my birthday this evening! The host greeted up and sat us promptly... Our server was Monet. She was very friendly, gave great menu suggestions which made our experience more pleasant. The menu was limited but we managed to get a decent meal. We ordered the Seafood Pasta and Pork Chop. I enjoyed the pasta very much. The pork chop was juicy but nothing to write home about. For dessert ordered the Flourless Chocolate Cake which was lovely. We ordered Chardonnay by the glass. Overall my experience was decent and the service by Monet was probably the best part of our experience. I am undecided if I will be rushing to go back but not a bad experience. I do want to book a night stay to experience this Boutique Hotel and perhaps when I do I will try another dining experience.

First impressions very art forward for anyone who interested of a special night out with nice glass sculptures pieces to dine in. This was very special and unique my husband surprise me with this place for a date night and service was nice and pleasant. We did get there closer to there close time of the kitchen time but first walking in to start our date night we were please to have a handcrafted note to start the date night and have sweet note to take home to remember the night and celebrate us. Our service was very nice and very helpful of helping us decide to share an appetizer and an entrée, and both delivered in equally proportion. We start with truffle &cheese croquettes very rich and sauce that was perfect to pair well with richest and we also got the seafood pappardelle had both a nice kick to it with the various of seafood and vegetables mixed in to complement every bite and the portions for both dishes were good for if you wanna share or solo. And the I love how the service was engaging and making sure we enjoyed the night for what is it and that's always key to going to a new spot you want to continue to come back for more and more new things. She did mention more about what they have to offer in the evening time a chef table experience where they have the chef give a course menu and guide you through each dish and learn the ends and out and we definitely will try that out for the next visit. The vibe in the evening is nice and quiet and very relaxed atmosphere with nice glass art to view throughout the night and the cocktails were nice and smooth with them handcrafted everything and making it sure it's made to perfection. This is definitely going on my top hot stop for 2025 and this I would consider a hidden gem and I been to spot that are in hotel and this is like no other and if you want to experience dinner in a elevate way this the place to go to and have night to remember this place have lots to offer including parties that include dinner parties in the art gallery itself.

Well I finally made my way to this beautiful exhibit , hotel and restaurant . I had a slow morning and decided to stop for breakfast . My omelette was cooked perfectly , my mimosas were great. They also allow you to walk through the exhibit with your drink , this was niccceee. The service was great , two staff members helped me . The front desk lady was super friendly and so was my waitress. Service was quick. I am excited to try dinner next . They also book events and dinners here. I actually was looking into booking a birthday dinner in the gallery for 10 and it was totally doable. Just beautiful !!!!

You know the drinks are good when the guests know the bartender by their first name. Ask for Amanda, she's happy to deliver hand crafted cocktails.

We enjoyed a date night at Glass Light in the Marriott, downtown Norfolk. We recommend parking at the attached Boush Street Garage for an easy walking path to the restaurant, or the hotel does offer valet. Our meals were the seafood pappardelle, with a rich, buttery sauce that perfectly complemented the mussels, clams, and shrimp. We also ordered the Berkshire pork chop, cooked to a tender and juicy medium. We sat further in the back near the kitchen, and that added a special touch. We got to see the different culinary creations as they came out. Every server was helpful and we didn't have to wait long for anything. Highly recommend!

After the Spring Wine Festival, my friends and I decided to stop by for dinner and check out some art. This place did not disappoint! The service was outstanding, the food was absolutely delicious, and the drinks were to die for. I highly recommend this spot--especially for a date night!

    Christmas Eve Menu

So I realize this rating is will be at odds with others posted on OpenTable but this was a very disappointing Christmas Eve dinner. We love the property--hotel, bar and gallery. And each time we stopped for a cocktail at the bar, we told ourselves we really need to try the restaurant. Plus almost all the reviews were positive. Perhaps we should not have made a reservation on a special night like Christmas Eve. After moving here from (cuisine-centric) New Orleans in 2021 we've had 3 terrible dinners on Christmas Eve (Leone's, Byrd and Baldwin and now at Glass Lligh)t. This is, after all, a hotel restaurant but I have to admit we had higher hopes for the evening. We were early for our reservation and were seated right away. Our server was collegial and promptly took our cocktail orders. She returned 3 times asking if we were ready for our meal order. Maybe she knew something we didn't know. We had the cocktail, ordered a bottle of wine and finally ordered. It was a special menu and we had a good view of the kitchen. I'm no kitchen manager but it looked a little dysfunctional at times. Nearly 50 minutes later our appetizers came. That's nearly an hour. The soup was flavorful. And cold. When the server asked how things were, I was honest with her. (They took the soup off the bill although I didn't ask the to do so.) The entrees arrived nearly 45 minutes later. They were okay. And although visually appealing they were forgettable. The chicken lacked flavor and the prime rib, although tender, was a meager cut. For the price the dishes should have been spectacular. It seems the dinner had gone from bad to worse. Although we had originally order deserts we cancelled them because we didn't want to wait again for food. We had long ago finished our wine. The restaurant wasn't packed the entire duration of our visit. It isn't very large and it seems that a well managed kitchen could have plated the appetizers and entrees more efficiently. And it wasn't just our table, it appeared the everyone else was waiting for food as well. I could tell the server was embarrassed about the delays in service as she stayed completely away during the last hour. (It did not affect her tip, however.) I wasn't sure who the front-of-the-house manager was, perhaps a young well dressed African American male who seemed to wander the floor. I never once saw him stop at a table to check on diners. Not once. It seemed he was a little distracted by his mobile phone to be bothered. Maybe they had a bad night. Regrettably, so did we. And we had to pay for it.

I wish I had taken more (and better ) pictures of the food, but everything was so delicious that I dove right in without thinking. We did the "chef's tasting," so they seated us at this countertop that overlooks the kitchen. It was really cool to get to see the chefs at work, plus the head sous chef, the executive chef, and the pastry chef each told us things about each dish as it was placed in front of us, which was also really nice! I felt like a VIP with the service we received, and the head sous chef even sent out extra rice crisps for us for our tuna tartare, which was really nice of him. He suggested we take a walk around the gallery between two of the courses, and we decided to go between the third and fourth course to try to make some room in our stomachs for the fourth and fifth courses. Everything was much more filling than I'd anticipated. The gallery is free, and it has a lot of really cool pieces, many of which look completely different when viewed from different perspectives, which is neat. Our server was super friendly and knowledgeable about each of the wines that came with the wine pairing add-on option, and she kept our water glasses filled and replaced our silverware for each new course, which was an unexpected and fancy feeling touch. She also reassured us that it was absolutely acceptable for us to take some leftovers home, and she packaged them up really nicely for us, too. I think my favorite dish was the duck confit, even though I couldn't finish it because I was so full. The duck was SO flavorful, and the crispy potato rösti cubes were a great textural contrast on the plate next to the melt-in-your-mouth red cabbage and squash rounds. The cipollini onion slices were also a unique and delicious addition. We had an epic night and an absolutely delicious dinner. It was such a special experience that I'd gladly do again!

We tried the Chef's Counter tasting experience for a special occasion, and it was a fantastic time! You have to call ahead to reserve, but it's well worth the effort. First off, the food was on another level. We were blown away by the presentation and detail put into each of the 5 courses. The chefs combine a lot of interesting flavors together to create some very unique dishes. The standout for me was the seared scallop, which combined apple, pickled carrots, and cumin. We also enjoyed getting to chat with the chef as he came around on each dish and explained his influences behind them. Overall a great experience!

This place keeps its vibe! Friday night cocktails were amazing and the bartenders made our just over 21 guests feel welcome at a craft cocktail Very approachable and the drinks amazing too

The first time we went here, it was a wonderful dining experience, with perfectly prepared culinary creations. We went again, but by the second time, we'd already explored more of Norfolk and realized that it was a bit pricey compared to some other wonderful dining establishments in the area. DON'T BE FOOLED BY THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE RESTAURANT AND THE HOTEL. The glass museum is a fun and common feature, but the HOTEL IS TERRIBLE! Do NOT STAY THERE.

This was my first visit but definitely not my last. From the servers, chefs and ambience this was an amazing experience. The beverages, and dishes were top tier and served with expert timing. My friends and I truly enjoyed being able to meet and watch the chefs as they prepared the dishes. We will definitely be returning!

The lemon drop martini was one of the highlights of the night -- smooth, refreshing, and perfectly balanced between sweet and tart without tasting overly sugary. Definitely one of the better lemon drops I've had lately. The Black Spice wings were packed with flavor. Crispy on the outside, juicy inside, and coated with a sauce that had the perfect mix of sweet heat and Caribbean-style seasoning. They were addictive. The lobster egg rolls were another standout. They were crispy, stuffed generously, and paired with a sauce that complemented the seafood really well without overpowering it. The lobster flavor actually came through, which isn't always the case at a lot of places. The cabbage was tender and seasoned with a tasty spice which was delicious. On top of the food, the atmosphere was stylish and energetic with great music and a fun crowd. Perfect spot for date night, brunch, or drinks with friends. Service slowed a little once the restaurant got busy, but overall the experience was worth it. The chef even blessed us with a sampling of a new catfish egg roll he is thinking of putting on the menu, and like everything else it was amazing and worthy of menu placement. It's the kind of establishment that understands both execution and consistency--two qualities that are increasingly rare and always appreciated. The shrimp and grits remains a signature highlight. The Creole sauce offers a restrained heat, balanced by a layered depth of flavor that speaks to careful preparation rather than excess. The shrimp are properly cooked, retaining a delicate snap, while the stone-ground grits provide a well-seasoned, creamy foundation. Each component is thoughtfully prepared, and together they form a cohesive dish that feels both composed and satisfying--an authentic nod to Cajun tradition without unnecessary embellishment. Gershwin's stands as a reliable fixture in the downtown dining scene. For those seeking a refined take on Southern and New Orleans classics, it is well worth the visit--and a strong example of the quality found within Norfolk's local restaurant community.

I swear I'm not making this up, this actually happened: 1) it took over 2.5 hours for the entrees to come out. One came out so early that by the time the second set came out they were already done. 2) The only appetizer that was ordered that actually came out, arrived after the entree was done. 3) One person's order had to be changed 5x because the waiter kept coming back to say they're out. This place is very solid feeling, you just feel safe and tucked in. Service: was fantastic, we met the executive chef named Ty who greeted us before we even sat down, just saw us sitting in the foyer bar and came over to say hello, very cool. We were greeted and seated by an absolute sweetheart upfront named Jackson and our server couldn't have been nicer, her name was Casey. Food: the food is all served tapas style, smaller plates, but well curated with interesting and innovative ingredients with beautiful presentation. Unfortunately, they were out-of four things that my wife wanted, she didn't want all of them simultaneously, she wanted one and they were out, and that happened three more times. Apparently, they often order in smaller batches and buy locally so sometimes they don't have as much as someplace buying in bulk, that's as much a positive as a negative, not a bad thing, just a bit of a bummer that she didn't get her first few choices. She ended up with the duck tacos which were good. We started with the brussels sprouts, which were also good and had nice presentation. We also started with bacon wrapped tots, the dish came with four of them and chili ketchup, beautifully presented, and rich, creamy, crunchy and yummy. I ordered the braised beef and fry bread and it was my favorite thing, very beefy flavored, warm and rich on soft pillowy fry bread with some cool crunch and crispy, thin plantain slices, very good. We started with a Chocolate Cherry Old Fashioned that was delicious. Overall the food was very good and the value was decent at around $12-$16 per plate. Overall: this was a really good experience and I'd go back to try some of the things they were out of and enjoy the incredible bar and stellar, considerate, thoughtful service. Definitely recommend!
