We heard about the extensive wine selection and we had to see what they had . We chose a bottle of Mercury Head . It was delicious. For food we did the crab rangoon egg rolls( real crab btw) , lamb lollipops, lobster Pad Thai , and a ribeye. They were all fantastic and the Pad Thai was a recommendation from our server Hope. I dined here back in January and I really enjoyed myself! The food was decent, the drinks were a work of art and the ambience gives very grown and sexy. I didn't make a reservation and when I walked in, the host told me that she would have to check to see if they could squeeze me in. She came back a minute later and said yes, but when we went around the corner, they were completely empty so I was kind of confused on that... and then, she proceeded to seat me in very back by the bathroom where it doesn't have a good view of the restaurant. -1 star for that boo The rest of my experience though was a true 10 out of 10! Vinny, my server was amazing, knowledgeable and sooo friendly! I wanted a drink but wasn't sure what to get so he asked me a few questions and had the bartender design me a drink based on my preferences and it was honestly the best drink I've ever had lol.. We went out for a date night looking for a good place for food, drinks and dessert. We tried three different places stopping for drinks and seeing if it was worth staying for the rest. I wish we would have started at Honey and Hooch. The location was great, with lots of cute restaurants around. It was clean and seemed safe. I would feel comfortable walking alone here. The two ladies behind the bar were so friendly and helpful as we looked at the menu. We ordered an old fashion and it was perfect and not too sweet like the two other places we tried first. Their bourbon selection was good and they offered lots of cocktail options. We ordered Brussel sprouts, wagyu sliders and Oyster Rockefeller. Each bite was great. Oysters were my favorite. We will be sure to be back. We will have to try the social hour which is half off everything at the bar from Tuesday to Friday from 4:30-5:30. Sit at the bar! I felt like my husband and I got so much more attention this way so service was absolutely fantastic. Decor is so much fun and I love the moody black walls with the fun lights and gold/bronze animal decor. Drinks: * Tap water - normally I don't comment on this because it's just water right? Wrong. The water and ice cubes they served us were very fresh and crisp. I drank two glasses with my cocktails which was perfect to stay hydrated. * Gentleman's - very refreshing and delicious this was a very interesting cucumber like experience * Martini La Poire - so so good! I personally did not think it was too sweet. Please never get rid of the sugar rim. This made the drink what it was in my opinion * Cranberry Martini - this was a suggestion from our bartender and it was delicious... probably my favorite from the night. This place is a hidden gem. I came here with my husband a few friends. We all really loved the sort of speakeasy vibe that it had with the blacked out windows and decor. We ordered a few cocktails which were all delicious. We also ordered a bunch of the tapas and were not disappointed with a single one. My husband and I decided to celebrate our 12 year anniversary and he made a reservation here. We always like to try new restaurants, especially ones that aren't a chain. This one was also close to us which is a plus. Be prepared that it is very dark inside. VERY dark. I understand they're trying to give it a speakeasy vibe, but it was so dark it was almost hard to see. Also, it was freezing in there. Our drinks were great! I ordered a dirty martini and my husband ordered an old-fashioned. My dirty martini was one of the best I've had so big plus there. The appetizers for the most part were good. We ordered the scallops. $38 for three is a bit steep, BUT they were really tasty and well-made. We ordered the Wagyu beef sliders and the truffle fries. Both were good. Probably my favorite appetizer of the night. The sliders needed a little bit more seasoning and more of the jam though imo. Then we ordered the charcuterie board, which was terrible. I love a charcuterie board. I make them and order them all the time. This one had a bunch of stuff on it that was just NOT good. The grapes were mushy, the wrapped grape leaves were off tasting and there were a few things on the board that I had no idea what they were...and our server didn't know either. You should 100% know your menu please and thank you. I tried the unknown items even though I didn't know what they were lol and they didn't taste good at all. Our server was really great. She was friendly and polite and we enjoyed her Now...the bill. We ALMOST left a 40% tip. Not because the service and experience was so great that we felt it was needed... but because a 20% gratuity was automatically put onto the bill. As I stated above, it was just my husband and I. Two people. Not a large party... just the two of us. I don't mind tipping 20% for good service and I will always tip 20% unless the service is excellent and then I will put more. It just feels a little ballsy to automatically put 20% onto my bill and nowhere does it preface that is the case. It's not on the website. It's not on the menu (that I saw) and it wasn't on the receipt. Had I not noticed that it was already on there I would've ended up leaving a $60 tip for three drinks and four appetizers. Also the credit card fee is shifted to the consumer so be aware of that as well. That was an additional $10. These 2 things shifted my entire experience of the night to be honest. The bartenders are very skilled in their craft showcasing a lot of very good cocktails and mocktails. We tried a variety of small plates to include steak bites, seafood ceviche, lamb chops, truffle fries, Wagyu sliders, oyster Rockefeller, guacamole and deviled eggs. All of the dishes were amazing my favorite had to be the Wagyu sliders, guacamole (has chorizo in it) and the oysters. They have a regular menu as well. What a delightful evening celebrating our sister's birthday in a speakeasy ambiance! The service and fare were impeccable! As you enter the establishment, it has a moody atmosphere with a bit of mystery! They play nice background music not too loud but just enough to complement the atmosphere while dining and conversing with friends. Jeff was an absolute personable server with terrific stories to tell and great recommendations for what to order as it was our first time dining at Honey & Hooch. My friend NH and I ordered the special for the evening which was lobster pad Thai (or their very unique take on pad Thai) and trio of cheesecake for dessert. There was generous serving of lobster, the noodles resembled more of buckwheat noodles so combined with well seasoned and fresh ingredients, the dish was fantastic! The cheesecake trio had creative flavors: cannoli, lemon berry and vanilla bourbon. We were told that the tiramisu crene brûlée is to die for, something to try next time for sure! This restaurant is seriously good! We tried the charcuterie board, the wagyu sliders, and marinated olives for starters. I tried the heat and holler drink, which was served with a semi-melted marshmallow on top! How cool! I had the Springtime Chopped Salad and my brother had the Ribeye. We truly loved everything here, but our favorites were the olives, ribeye, and Salad (sliders were also up there). The salad was just delicious and I would have finished it had I not eaten so many of the appetizers! I also tried a bite of steak and it was cooked perfectly and the sauce it came in was delicious! This restaurant is in the corner of a shopping center in Chesapeake. I'm sure if you don't know it's back there you wouldn't know it was there. When I walked up, someone came to open the door for me. The door is super dark so you can barely see on the other side of it, but they can see you. I had already made a reservation so thankfully, once i arrived we were seated immediately. The restaurant is pretty dim. I'm not sure if we were sitting near the speaker or not, but the music was a little loud i could barely hear myself think lol. The restaurant itself is very cute though. Once seated, the waiter immediately came to ask for drinks. They have a good selection of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks, and wine. I enjoy the tapas style restaurants, as I don't have to only get one meal and can try different things. We got the Brussel sprouts, calamari, oyster Rockefeller, and salmon cakes. Unfortunately, the only picture i got was the salmon cakes (sorry, was hungry) lol. The calamari came with a very interesting dipping sauce; but it was good! The Brussels were mostly skin/the outside instead of full Brussels so I would be sort of iffy getting those again, but they were still tasty. (The lighting is verrrrry low in some areas so be mindful. No one wants to use a flash or camera light when taking pictures and videos.) We were seated towards the back of the restaurant past the bar. Perfect for a quite date night dinner. We started our dinner of with cocktails and appetizers. I had a lemon drop martini made with Ketel One vodka and Carmen had the Leatherman . Both drinks were just okay. 6/10. Next l enjoyed the Jake Walker. Pomegranate and grand marnier! 8/10! The wagyu beef sliders with gouda cheese and bacon name were okay. I would have like more bacon ham but I still thought that they coul have used some seasoning 6/10 After chatting for a while and waiters recommendations I chose the Lobster Pad Thai and Carmen chose the whole red snapper. I also really enjoyed the crab Rangoon egg rolls which is shocking because I don't like seafood. The calamari was ok, but I didn't care for the sauce to dip it. The prosciutto wrapped meatball was good and had a lot of flavor. Unfortunately none of us liked the brussel sprouts. To us they were roasted too long and didn't have good flavor. We love discovering new restaurants in Chesapeake, and we were excited to make Honey and Hooch a regular spot. After four visits, however, I think this may have been our last. The bar itself is beautiful, and we enjoy sitting at the bar when we go out. That said, requiring reservations for bar seating--especially when seats are open--is unusual. The owner has stated in responses that the bar is open seating, yet the front desk staff consistently tells guests it's reservation-only. This inconsistency is frustrating. We decided to return after seeing an Instagram post about the new happy hour. When we arrived during happy hour, the hostess immediately asked if we had a reservation. I explained that we were there for happy hour drinks and appetizers before heading elsewhere for dinner. She informed us the bar was full and that one couple was ahead of us on the waitlist. We were welcome to sit at the small cocktail tables and order drinks--but not food. We sat with the other waiting couple and were handed food menus to review (despite not being allowed to order). There was no drink menu available, and when we asked, we were told it was "under construction" but that they had "all the liquor choices." A swanky bar with no cocktail menu during happy hour feels like poor planning. We ordered martinis--something simple we could easily make at home. It was my friend's birthday, I wanted a WOW cocktail. After 20-30 minutes, we were told two bar seats had opened up. I asked if there were four seats, as the couple ahead of us still hadn't been moved. The hostess hadn't realized they were waiting--despite the lengthy, formal check-in process at the front. At this point, we were going to miss happy hour pricing, and I was uncomfortable being offered seats ahead of another waiting guest. Our server (who was wonderful) later informed us that our drinks had been given a "courtesy discount" because we were there for happy hour, but that next time, cocktail tables wouldn't qualify. The entire experience felt disorganized and mismanaged. Honey and Hooch has the potential to be a top-tier spot, but the inconsistent policies, confusing bar reservation system, and lack of attention to detail make it difficult to justify returning. read more

What an unbelievable and unforgettable experience at Honey & Hooch's Social Hour Experience! Every T-F they offer ONE HOUR at the bar seating only where everything is half off! Yes, there is a line outside the door at least 10 minutes before they open the doors but for good reason!! You can get gourmet food, drink, and amazing service without breaking the bank. Not only is the staff so friendly but they are also very knowledgeable on the menu and the ingredients! Our server Jeff was so pleasant, attentive and took great care of us. You can enjoy well made cocktails and gourmet food in mood lighting with speakeasy vibes here. We started off by ordering Amaretto Sours, my favorite drink. They were made to perfection, ratios were right and they did a beautiful egg white on top. Now let's get into the food! First off, there is not a seafood place in the Hampton Roads area that beats these perfectly cooked medium rare Colossal Scallops. oh my WORD they were amazing (I'll come back to these) We started off with the Blackened Goat Cheese, Marinated Olives, Charcuterie Board and Pimento Cheese Deviled Eggs. I will definitely be ordering the goat cheese and olives every single time. Loved eating them together too! The Charcuterie Board was arranged with different meats, cheeses, dried fruits, peppers, and such. Wonderful assortment, all complimented each other very well. The Pimento Cheese Deviled Eggs sadly lacked the pimento cheese taste I was looking for but still light and pickle-y. For round 2, we ordered the Blue Crab Rangoon Egg Rolls, Warm Grilled Shrimp, and the incredible Bronzed Colossal Scallops. If you like crab, you'll LOVE these rangoon egg rolls. They pair them with their black bean dragon sauce which reminds me a a Szechuan sweet chili sauce, delicious! The Warm Grilled Shrimp was good, very large grilled shrimp served with refreshing tzatziki and bulgur wheat salad that reminded me tabouli. Now, our favorite of the night, the Bronzed Colossal Scallops. AMAZING. When you first bite into the scallop they start to melt in your mouth almost immediately, then you start to taste the char that's covering the top of the scallop. If you get everything in one bite you then get a burst of fruitiness from the mango-strawberry melody which I LOVED. The most unique part about this dish is it's served on a bed of chorizo and arugula. The chorizo adds this wonderful flavor of spices to the mix but doesn't overpower the simplicity of the scallop. This dish will be my go-to every time now! Lastly, we finished off the meal with the cheesecake flight (our dream dessert). They served us a flight of three house-made mini cheesecakes. I recently had family visit for the weekend from New York and Atlanta areas and as part of our itinerary, I reserved a table at Honey and Hooch before the theater. Both being from well known foodie areas, I looked for a unique dining experience with good food and service. We received both. Vincent was attentive and accommodating and because we were all celebrating something, we were treated to an unexpected treat. Beautiful ambiance, reasonable pricing and I love the option of ordering "sharing" plates so we could try different dishes. The Wagu sliders were juicy and tender. Definitely will be back. read more

It was our first time at this restaurant and it was amazing! The food was incredible, the selection of options was great, and the drinks yummy. The best part of our experience was our waiter, Vinny. The service was impeccable and he made us feel like family. Our only negative was the dark decorations and lighting made it hard to read the menu. After seeing this amazing establishment on TikTok a friend and I met here for small plates and cocktails. When they say it's a culinary and mixology experience, it is truly just that. We had the struggle fries, lamb lollipops, Brussel sprouts, wagyu sliders, and blacked goat cheese and everything was amazing. Cocktails were just as amazing! We had an amazing dinner with a group of friends over the weekend, drinks and food were phenomenal! A few things I loved were the size of the small plates and how they were shareable. We came as a party of 6 and ordered a few plates and drinks to start. The group loved the sauce that the fries came with. The cocktails were great, they have a wide selection for all palettes. We finished the dinner off by sharing the red snapper and Pad Thai and had the cheesecake as a celebratory dessert. Service was attentive and carried us all the way through. I want to start by saying that this is the first "upscale" dining establishment I've ever been to. This was a completely new and original experience for me; I was very excited about that reason. With all that being said, I'm very happy to say it far surpassed my wildest expectations. I'll start with the food. I ordered the crispy half chicken and the blue crab rangoon egg rolls. The egg rolls were fantastic! They were prepared wonderfully, giving them a perfect crunch, and they did not skimp out on the filling either! Also, the black bean dragon sauce that accompanied the starter was the perfect balance of sweet and heat. It paired amazingly with the egg rolls. The crispy half chicken was a wonderful surprise as well! It truly lives up to the name and has some of the crispiest skin I've ever had on a baked chicken! But, they didn't have to sacrifice the tenderness and juiciness of the chicken itself for that crispy skin whatsoever. It was cooked perfectly, and you can't go wrong with that chimichurri sauce! Now, I must talk about the amazing service! As soon as I walked in, I was met with the warmest and kindest greeting possible. I felt welcomed right off the bat! The lovely hostess Elyssa was beyond fantastic and walked my friend and me to our seats in a manner that was efficient but not rushed whatsoever! She also made sure that we were happy with the seats and settled before she departed. Plus, she recommended those amazing crab rangoon egg rolls to me, which was very sweet of her to do. The staff behind the bar was extremely present and ready to help. They always made sure my friend and I were enjoying ourselves and comfortable. The other fantastic staff member we encountered was our server, Danika. She delivered our food as kindly and respectfully as possible! It all felt extremely smooth and not overwhelming at all. Also, I had a few egg rolls leftover when it was all said and done, and Danika kindly boxed and bagged them up for me without me having to say anything. This place is the definition of knowing exactly the kind of experience your customers want! Lastly, the decor and ambiance were out of this world. I wouldn't call myself an expert in interior design by any means, but whatever this fine establishment did, I absolutely adored it. It all felt so enticing and hypnotic in the best way possible. My friend and I could not stop looking around us, taking in the beautiful room around us. It had a super calm and quaint atmosphere, which made everything feel super relaxed. Words can't begin to explain how much I loved my time dining at this wonderful establishment. First off, I was greeted by the dream team of Heather and Amanda. They were so attentive and were armed with the best recommendations on the menu. The food was AMAZING!!! The flavors, the concepts, just a great experience. The wine selections were excellent and the presence of the resident sommelier was a huge bonus! To top off my visit, the clientele and the beautiful speakeasy vibes made this the perfect place for me!!! I will definitely be visiting whenever in VA (Chesapeake/Hampton area)!!!
