After coming back for that Breakfast Carbonara, I'm updating my review to say Met Back Bay has earned a straight 4/5 stars! I could eat that Carbonara for days ... so creamy and cheesy - you can't stop even if you wanted to. You'll be like "I'm full" but find yourself with another forkful of pasta in your mouth. Get your reservation in though, this is a poppin' brunch spot! I also came in for a bite one night after work. The Boy and I grabbed 2 seats by the bar. They have daily deals and Monday night is $5 burgers so we both ordered the Mexico City burger topped with jack cheese, jalapenos, guacamole, cilantro, fire-charred salsa. We also ordered Buffalo Wings. These were large wings, but they were also connected - so the flats and the drumsticks you had to separate yourself. My one gripe is I wish they came split because it's difficult enough to pick up a pipin' hot wing but to have to split them is just an extra difficulty.
My girlfriend surprised us and brought us to the met back bay for a hOt chocolate flight. I have to say that the spiked hot chocolate flight was delicious. My husband got the regular hot chocare flight and it was ok. I am giving this place a 4 start because we couldn't just have the flights without ordering food. Didn't love that we had to buy food!
LOCATION: 5 STAR... step down the stairs to a below the sidewalk level (AKA hidden from your spouse) outdoor deck with benches and umbrellas for shade. (Speaking of shade, Cheaters...this one's for YOU!) SERVICE: 4 STAR...our waiter was friendly, but not chatty about the menu items... and I'm one of those food lovers that has questions.) FOOD: 3 STAR...My "Back Bay Chopped Salad" was...NOT GOOD. The lettuce was not truly chopped, but pretty large. The minced texture of a chopped salad is the whole allure. The bacon was the biggest disappointment. It was about a half an inch thick. Sounds great, right? Every single piece was 100% fat with no pork meat on it. To make matters worse, it was not well done. So, it maintained a chewy, fatty texture that was gag-worthy. (See photo) My dining partner's chicken stir-fry Bowl was full of gourmet goodness. The truffle fries were mouthfuls of oily, salty goodness...whose flavor fullness surprised us. HINT: Have the truffle fries. Skip the salad!
Great brunch option but they cannot serve wine until 11am due to an ordinance because they are located so close to a church. You can put your order in and they will bring once they are able. Good brunch menu. Avocado toast is delicious and as it was served on a wooden plank instead of a plate, the bread did not get soggy from the plate sweating. Nice outdoor seating section in the summer and the staff is attentive. Note, they will not seat you until your full party arrives, even if there are open tables (which is the norm for the area).
This place is great for lunch or dinner! The waiters are very nice. They are always attentive and very nice. The food is awesome and the rice bowl is incredible! They also have amazing salads and fish. It is a bit pricey but the food is very good and worth it. Beware the chicken parmigiana! It is meant for 3+ people and it is an enormous piece of chicken that you cannot possibly finish alone. The bathrooms are also very clean. The place is kept very very clean and everything looks very classy.
Went for the flatbread Sunday and let me just say, I'm very into a good flatbread! This was more just pizza, a thicker/chewier flatbread rather than thin and crisp but still very very tasty!! Why cut it into 5 pieces though? Why make my boyfriend and I stare at the last slice with a silent battle for the pizza? But very good. I've had their bloody Mary's many many times as well which are out of this world and I blame for a big part of my brunch addiction! Only thing is they run out of whole drinks, early in the night. We went at 6 pm and were told that they were out of the kind of white wine we ordered for the day? Which seems weird for such a nice spot. But nonetheless, a great place!
I went with a friend for brunch and we were seated in a room by ourselves. It was nice to have the privacy, as no one else joined the room during our meal, but the larger open area with windows looking over Newbury Street would have been nicer. I would recommend asking for seating with windows. The service was quick, not a lot of waiting as we were the only people in our area. We split a sweet and savory-Nutella French toast and white egg scramble. Nutella ft has ricotta cheese in it, FYI. Food was average, we expected better for the price.
I planned a weekend trip to Boston months in advance. I do not travel without a list of at least 10 restaurants and bars (burgers & dives to the destinations fanciest) and since our hotel was nearby, I had the MET on the list. MET Back Bay in the heart of Boston's posh Back Bay neighborhood, MET Back Bay occupies an historic 1877 brick townhouse on the corner of Newbury and Dartmouth Streets. The space has been meticulously renovated and is modern, elegant and comfortable while paying homage to the classic style and timeless beauty of the building and surrounding neighborhood. MET Back Bay's menu blends new American cooking with contemporary continental cuisine and embraces quintessential New England ingredients. Had Sunday brunch at 10am on a Sunday. It was quiet, not a lot of customers. Waiter was very friendly....hostess..MEH..maybe not awake yet..... I cannot stress enough that a Hostess has a VERY important role as it is the 1st impression of the establishment (other than outside decor) Bad hostess and the establishment is already in the cross hairs before the guests are seated. The Brunch menu is too limited and should have more of the breakfast items on it (breakfast is served MON-FRI) Would have killed for the Capt. Crunch French Toast with real maple, whipped butter or more omelette options Brunch menu looked more geared for the "day after a heavy night of drinking: burgers & heavier fare) It had a nice, (although small) bar in the "Library" room. We had these items that were very good --Eggs & Biscuit Benedict--north country black forest ham / red eye hollandaise --Red, White & Blue Pancakes with blueberries, strawberries & whipped cream Good website They have a HAPPENINGS page chock full of nightly events they have (Wednesday lobster Night, Craft Bloody Marys. They have a PRESS page chock full Foodie-centric things happening throughout Boston
Best place to get truffleFries and a damn good Cosmo. I've been coming here over the years and never have been let down by the tasty fries. They're also known for their cold cuts and cheeses. It's a nice cozy location in the back Bay. Nice neighborhood restaurant. Good place for taco Tuesdays for 6 bucks.
Following a rather unenjoyable brunch at Met Nantucket, I felt hesitant to dive in for an early dinner at The Back Bay location But, she wanted French onion soup (of all things) and they fulfilled the need. Who am I to argue with a pregnant woman?! Only the downstairs bar are is open prior to 5p, so we snagged a pair of stool at the charcuterie side bar. There's something both enthralling and terrify about watching salamis thinly sliced within arms' reach. Not that you should; a whirling blade is not the most explorable device. To the food, her $9 cuppa soup definitely covered the onion quota, with a savory, salted beef broth disappearing quickly, and 2/3 of a crock still swimming with stewed onions. I went all-natural turkey burger ($18) LA style, cooked a bit dry and thankfully slathered with smashed avocado, bacon, alleged sprouts (there were none), lettuce, tomato and a mild garlic aioli. A wee mound of crispy fries on the side, and we were golden, although with all those textures, fats and flavors, the final product was one-note. Should have waited for Monday night, when the more slight version of three different burger offerings run a paltry $5 each. Pair it with a $6 beer from a decent bottle run, and you've got yourself a little platter of affordable luxe. I just wish the burger sent me swooning, instead of riding the A-OK train! Til next time, I reckon.
Enjoyed a simple burger on toasted brioche and gin martini on the patio for lunch, hit the spot. Burger was perfectly grilled but otherwise is served plain. Martini was well-made, served in a pre-chilled glass, for those who appreciate their drinks icy. Spacious outdoor seating is a plus, though service can be spotty/slow.
LOVING THEIR COCKTAILS!! they were all refreshing & not syrupy or overly sweet as many cocktails can become!! we were even able to enjoy our drinks at a table in the bar area, which was nice and relaxing ---cucumber gimlet (my favorite) ---pimm's cup ---grapefruit fizz NOTE: they have a restaurant and then a bar side w/ a charcuterie bar & let me just say the food smelled amazing!!! i think i'll be coming back to try the food!
What a nice surprise! I didn't have much expectations coming in to Met Back Bay. Seemed like most of the reviews were either really high or really low. Well folks, I'm going with the high! We came here for a late dinner and were seated at the Library Bar. Nice little area that wasn't too loud and we could still hear each other We decided to share 3 plates which was just enough for the 3 of us! -LOADED fries. Let me tell you.. these were definitely loaded. We didn't actually see them on the menu, but my friend saw a picture on yelp and they were happy to serve it to us. SO much on it! Cheese, hamburger patty, green onions, mayo, lots and lots of cheese, a fried egg on top! The fries were just ok. By the time we got ate all the toppings and got to the middle/bottom of the dish where the fries were just plain, they were pretty oily.. Good thing we had leftover pasta sauce to dip it in! These were good, but not awesome so I think I'd pass -BRUSSEL SPROUTS mmmmm! It's small, but pretty packed. They serve it 2 ways: roasted and shaved with spicy caesar. I've recently found a love for brussel sprouts and this dish totally reinforced it! -Short rib gnocchi with brown butter squash, brussel sprouts, and pecorino. OMG I'm a huge fan of this one!! We got the half order for $14 but we all wished we got the full order. Everything about it was delicious. The gnocchi was so tender, the butternut squash had the perfect sweetness, of course the brussel sprouts were nicely roasted and seasoned, and the sauce brought it all together. I could eat this for dayz. There's still a lot of items on the menu that I want to try so I'll be coming back!

One of the best brunch spots in Boston if you're looking for chill vibes and great food. Not to mention the Bloody Mary bar is insane you get to pick anything you want off if a list to put on top of your Bloody Mary. Perfect location, you can be seated right away either downstairs, upstairs or outside and they can overall accommodate their guests very well. read more
Went there for brunch with my friend after seeing it on Instagram. We ordered the egg Benedict, avocado toast, fruit bowl and a hot chocolate flight. The brunch items were pretty average, and I've had better ones. Since avocado toast is an appetizer/side order, the portion wasn't very big, so maybe order something else together. The fruits were good, but this is the first time I had it like this. The fruits, granola and yogurt were usually layered nicely in one bowl in other places I went to, but for this one the bowl is too small to put everything in, I guess the purpose was to eat it by dipping? The best part was the chocolate flight, it was in a separate dessert menu which we had to ask for. All of the flavours were really good, would def recommend the flight! read more

My friends are I were very excited to try MET for brunch, we made reservations for a Sunday. We arrived on time, but the host was very cold to us and we had to wait for an extra 10 minutes. It seemed to be a very unorganized and unwelcoming hosting stand. Ordering was fine. Waitress was nice but not very attending. I ordered the Eggs Benedict. It came out quickly but I was disappointed by the appearance of the food and the portion size. The biscuit on the bottom was stale and dry. It came with potatoes that looked like they were thrown on the plate and also dry and bland. The appearance was not appetizing. I was very disappointed. My two other friends plates came out fine, much more of a bigger portion. It's an ok place. Clean and nicely decorated. read more

Came here on a random weekday afternoon with a friend and got seated on the second floor. Loved it! So spacious and the couches were really nice. Since it was just for a midday snack, we ordered the appetizers only. We ordered the tuna/salmon tartare appetizer. I have to say, it came pretty warm as if it had been sitting there for quite some time. The fish tasted pretty old in my opinion. The quality of the fish was pretty meh. However, the sauces for the tartare were pretty good and I loved the taro chips that came with it. But just disappointed in the quality of it. We ordered the flatbread (came with asparagus, eggs, cheese, and mushroom) which arrived with such a nice presentation. We probably enjoyed this dish the most. I felt like it needed a kick though. I would have liked if it was dressed with something bolder. We also ordered the calamari. Favorite part of the meal! Crispy, chunky, fat pieces of squid. Yum! It came hot. Definitely the best part of our snacking. Definitely want to try their regular dishes in the future. read more

Came here for brunch with a couple of friends while we were out shopping. This place is kind of interesting where if you want to sit outside you have to make sure you have a reservation that is specifically for outside patio. We didn't know that so we ended up sitting inside even though it was really nice out. Our waiter at first was a little interesting and cold not very friendly. It wasn't until after we ordered a bottle of champagne and appetizers that he started to come around when we ordered our entrees and made a joke. The food was pretty good I would suggest starting with the avocado toast. I had the green guru for my main and probably would have added protein if I get it next time. There was something about the salad though that was a little too course and crunchy that made it a little difficult to eat. So although I only ate half I would probably give it another shot. read more

I have never before experienced so many employees standing around doing nothing in a restaurant! I had a coffee cup and water that was empty for my entire meal. Even after I asked for both to be refilled!!! I am not even going to comment on the food because it couldn't be enjoyed until it was cold because I didn't have silverware! Currently staring at three people with there fingers up there ***** while I am trying to get their attention to ask for my bill! USELESS! Grrrr! read more
An excellent place for an old school drink or some really good food. First of all, you have a choice when you walk in here...you can go downstairs to the relaxed bar area, or you can go upstairs for the prohibition type bar. Both areas have the same prices, but I prefer upstairs at the bar with a great bartender. I was fortunate enough to have Jay as the bartender that night, and he knows how to make some serious drinks! He also has an extensive wine knowledge, so if you are in the mood for a great drink...GO UPSTAIRS. The food was delicious here too. Fresh cheeses, and one of the best pasta dishes I have ever had. I am not kidding. As them what their recommended pasta dish is and you will be in heaven. read more

As part of my ongoing saga to try every burger of note in the Boston area (see ranking and link to photos below), we recently made it to The Met Back Bay, which features a number of fancy burgers on it's various menus, particularly for brunch. Since this was a weeknight dinner, we had only one choice, although it sounded intriguing, if a bit over the top: SALTIE GIRL PRIME BURGER: Wagyu beef, fried lobster, avocado, Angry special sauce, BLT, and fries ($24) [BTW, "Saltie Girl" apparently refers to a Barcelona-inspired seafood spot that will be right next door to The Met, from the same owners, soon to open.] Don't you love how everyone has to have some sort of "special" sauce for their "special" burgers these days (sing along with me: "Two all beef patties, "special" sauce, lettuce, cheese...")? "Special" or not (I can't really remember), this was was a complete disaster of a burger. Please repeat after me: THE 1ST COMMANDMENT OF BURGERS: "Thou shall not pile on more than 4 ingredients on top of your burger, lest it explode all over your shirt." Not only did this just have too many disorganized ingredients stacked on top (including slippery slices of avocado that never had a chance of staying put long enough for me to take a bite), but I couldn't even taste the lobster. I could see it (particularly when it would shoot out onto my plate, after I had stuck it back in), but just not taste it. How about leaving it out next time? For $5 less it still wouldn't be a very good burger, but at least I would feel less used. While the Wagyu had a good chargrilled flavor, it was pretty dry (but at least cooked to med rare spec), although at first bite I actually thought it was a pretty juicy burger (the fat drippings from the bacon tricked me). Oh, and the fries were also over cooked and not very good. $24 is pretty extreme for a burger, even this era of high-end burgers (by way of comparison, the brilliant Craigie is $19). But frankly, I wouldn't pay more than a fiver for this one. Not recommended. Bostons Best Burgers: 1) Craigie on Main's Bar Burger 2) Alden & Harlow's Secret Burger 3) RF O'Sullivan's Black & Blue Burger 4) JM Curley's 5 oz. natural beef patty burger 5) Strip-T's burger 6) Bar Boulud's Classic Burger 7) Post 390's Tavern Burger 8) Washington Square Tavern's Burger 9) The Met Back Bay's Saltie Girl Prime Burger (not recommended) http://tinyurl.com/BostonsBestBurgers We also had a few apps including charcuterie, which were OK nothing special, and some pretty good wine (2012 Robert Foley Griffon). read more

4/5- The Met Bar Back Bay, Rigatoni Bolognese. Confession: I've never gotten another dish at Met Bar other than the bolognese! Truly this is my favorite bolognese I've ever had. EVER! And I've eaten my way through Italy! The Met Bar's Rigatoni Bolognese is light on the tomatoes and much more cheese focused, which is right up my alley. The only thing I wish they didn't add was the onions. Just a personal preference! Will be back many a times to treat myself to this decadent pasta dish. read more
I've come here several times for drinks and apps, but never a full dinner. BRUNCH For weekend brunch, they have BYOBM: Build Your Own Bloody Mary's. This is great for those adventurous friends who you want to top as many things on your Bloody Mary with. YOU CAN ADD A WHOLE SLIDER AS A GARNISH ON YOUR DRINK. I have never seen this done anywhere else, so if you come here try this at least. Everyone will be staring at you in awe. People will ask you if that's a real burger on your drink. You'll nod and they'll watch as you drink/eat your Bloody Mary. The Bloody Mary itself is very pulpy and spicy of the peppery kind. I'm not sure I liked it. The cocktail onions added a nice touch, but the Bloody Mary itself was too savory for my liking. I did like the slider, though. APPS Salmon/tuna tartare is okay. The taro chips are really interesting with a flaky, light, crunchy texture and a little oily. I could eat those chips all by itself, honestly. Orange miso duck wings are almost a little sour? Very interesting with the flavor of kimchi. DRINKS Grapefruit fizz (+) ACK the Nantucket (+) Blackberry bramble (sour) Tip: If you are trying to sit on the patio, you need to order food with you drinks. Boston law. Next time I'm trying the entrees! read more

My friends and I visited the Met sunday morning for brunch (because Stephanie's had an hour long wait). When we got there, there was an hour wait for a dining table but we went downstairs to the bar area and there were a ton of empty tables and seats and room at the bar! I recommend coming to the downstairs area if you want quick service. It was an expensive brunch.. I heard about their bloody mary's from a friend so I had to order one. They give you a clipboard with a check list of condiments to put into your bloody mary. I went a little over the top and ordered one with lobster, shrimp, an oyster, bacon and made it extra spicy. It was an expensive bloody mary that is for sure. My friend got a bloody mary with a SLIDER on it! The slider was actually so good.. the bloody mary could have been my full meal. The California hen house hash was a good choice for breakfast, but it was a big meal I could barely finish 1/3 of it. It had avocado, eggs, peppers and cheese. It didn't look that appetizing but it sure was! All my friends went with the breakfast burrito which came out great. I will be back. read more

A decent brunch spot. The nutella-stuffed french toast was okay - I knew I'd probably regret it, but my curiousity won out. It was like a combination of a cider donut and funnel cake, with some nutella (not nearly enough to qualify as "stuffed") in the middle. Two pitifully small pieces of banana on top. Not quite what I envisioned from the description. Delicious enough, but a few bites was all I could manage - it's fried and coated in sugar. The "build your bloody mary" option was fun, though they forgot a couple of ingredients for mine. I guess that's what happens when five other people at your table also order bloody marys. You can go crazy and order everything but the kitchen sink, including sliders, shrimp, cheese block, etc. as my friend Danny did.... read more

I was visiting Boston with a friend of mine a couple weeks ago. We stopped in here on our last day after reading such wonderful reviews. We decided to split the three cheese omelet and Nutella French toast. The three cheese omelet came with home fries. It was okay but nothing super great. It want bad just not great. The Nutella French toast was pretty good, but also not the greatest thing. They had a really awesome build your Bloody Mary menu which I think is what makes this place so popular. I don't drink bloody Mary's and we were leaving to drive home the same day so I didn't want to drink for brunch. I would definitely recommend this place for brunch it is perfect. The drink selection is wonderful and the food was good. read more
Food here is 3 stars but the Blood Mary Bar is easily 5 stars! I definitely would recommend this restaurant if it is your first time in Boston or if you never have been here before. I like the avocado toast and the salmon flat bread. I usually don't order healthy for brunch but I get those two items with a Blood Mary (with the hamburger) which is a meal in itself, and naturally the best way to start your day. PS. If you are thinking brunch, they get busy very fast so I would make a reservation. read more

I love this place. The interior is bright and the staff are friendly. Their portion sizes are massive so just be aware. I've gone here several times and I kid you not, they have the BEST nachos I have ever had. It isn't listed on their menu anymore but they still have it and seriously it is amazing. Their appetizers and fries are also nice but the nachos.. I dream about them sometimes. They also have a bar downstairs for if you didn't make reservations and have to wait a bit. read more

I would like to give this restsurant a better rating as the food is 4.5 to 5 stars. The atmosphere is 5 stars. The services is at best 3 stars. The drinks are very bad most 2 stars. No shots, no bottles nothing you would expect from a bar. Bur I would come back again for the food. read more

A little bit overrated. Went during a weekend and wasn't crowded at all. Quickly got seated and served drinks. Very very pricey. Eggs in benedict were cold unfortunately but otherwise a good meal. A little smaller than I'd expect for the price. read more

I really enjoy sitting at their downstairs bar for some cocktails and food. I am in love with Met's chopped salad which has cut up broccoli, beets, corn, avocado, cucumber, tomatoes, and huge chunks of bacon! The dressing is nice and light, and the portion is huge! Even the half size portion is large enough that you will have leftovers. I usually top off my salad with salmon, that is fresh but be prepared the salmon portion size is on the small side. I also love their truffle fries! The drinks are good and they usually have a few good beers on tap. Overall my go to when I am craving an awesome salad! read more

I went to the Met Back Bay for brunch with my friend. The hostess was super nice and let us sit early. Usually the food and service is great but today it was kind of slow. Also, my home fries were kind of burnt which wasn't the greatest. But usually everything is amazing so I still recommend it read more

I finally went in to give this place a shot with the aide of restaurant week. The highlight of my night was our waiter Miguel. The drinks where well made, a little pricey but I expected that based on the location. The appetizers where delicious except for the artichoke hash, it was prickly and not in a interesting culinary experience way but painful and I'm not touching this plate kind of way. The place was packed so service reflected as much. The meal overall was delicious and despite visiting on a cheaper menu the bill was still pretty high at the end(totally my own fault) . I'll visit again for a really nice celebratory evening but sadly not for more regular dining. read more

Came for a friend's birthday brunch and it was good. We had a reservation so we were seated after a couple of minutes. They had a menu to create your own Bloody Mary which seemed fun, but I'm, unfortunately, not a fan. I got the Boston burger, which was good. I'm a sucker for french fries, but I wasn't a big fan of the fries. Two of my friends got mimosas and a friend and I got cappuccinos. The vibes seemed great there and it was busy. It's a great location and central to everything. read more

Had been craving pancakes all day, and MET Back Bay was one of the few places that had pancakes and did not have a massive line out the door. When we were seated I ordered the ONLY pancake option on the menu: 2 Buttermilk Pancakes. Aesthetically, they looked great, but they had about as much flavor as a piece of cardboard. They were accompanied only by butter and syrup, because it costs an additional $2 (a whopping $16 for TWO pancakes) to add strawberries, blueberries and whip cream. Maybe the redeeming qualities are their famous bloody Mary's, the savory food items, or the great staff like our kind waiter, Colin, but I would NOT recommend the pancakes. read more
Perfect for comfort food if you're interested in a burger, grilled cheese, or mac and cheese. The patio and private dining rooms are the best part of the space to sit and chat. The main space can feel a bit formal if you're looking to grab a quick bite. The real gem of the place are their custom Bloody Mary's where you can add any ingredient you would like. read more
