It was set up perfect. With a slight smell of nothing except the food. The bathroom was very pristine, cleaned to % waiter was very relaxing to talk with. Pictures were set up nicely. CELIAC PEEPS SHOULD RAEDS THIS. Well, So here goes. I visited this place with my Wife, Mom, and Niece on a Saturday. My mom has Celiac. We asked if they have a gluten free menu and they said yes. We sat down and then talked to the server and asked they can accommodate my mother with celiac and prepare the food with no cross contamination. In most kitchen this is a matter of basic cleanliness. In bakeries and place that have a lot of air born flours this is nearly impossible even though there are some pizza places that take extra steps to do this and succeed all the time. Now with celiac you cannot have any gluten what so ever, a crumb will send you into a several day nausea and puke fest just like food poisoning. So in setting the stage we asked the server about cross contamination and she cut my mom off interrupting her and rudely saying " we cannot do that we have a totally gluten kitchen" so MY mom urged us to stay and eat since this was one several place we have tried and so on her insistence we did. My mother had a glass of tea and my wife and I split a brat sausage platter and had asked for regular free but got sweet potato fries instead and we didn't complain just ate them the sausage was alright the sour kraut was terrible and dry and bitter instead of sour. The fries were a bit over cooked and the bread that came with was an after thought on the dish. Now the serve comes back and tried to tells my mom that she has had celiac people in there before and that she 'should' be ok and suggests the French fries that the oil gets so hot to kill the gluten. Well we let he say her bit I could see she regretted being so harsh on the first encounter about the gluten and was trying to make up for it now. If my mother was not so well versed in celiac and the do's and don'ts she would have been glutened and sick for days. I've had some pretty bad restaurant experiences in my day but I'm pretty sure this takes the cake. Disclaimer: they did comp the meal so they realize at least a little bit how much they fucked up but that doesn't make up for very much in my mind. I went in with a big group, which does make stuff slightly more difficult on the individual server but absolutely should not throw the entire chain of command and order into shambles. 15 meals are ordered. 11 get their full meal right away. One of those meals had to be sent back to the kitchen to be re-heated because the bratwurst was barely cooked. One person gets her salad but not her soup. Three people are left sitting there waiting whilst everyone digs in. The waitress refills people's water glasses with Sprite instead of water. We laugh it up at first but that's just a sign of things to come. 30 minutes pass, nothing happens for the three of us waiting. At the 45 minute mark, as everyone in our party is more than finished with their meal, our waitress comes back to inform us that our food is JUST THEN being put into the kitchen. We ask to see a manager, who isn't on site; he's actually sitting at home because it's a Monday night, their usual slow night. I don't care what your business trends are, you always have a manager on staff ready to deal with things. He comes over and apologizes to us and apparently to at least two other tables of people as well, because the kitchen staff is so incompetent that they're messing up everything. After being in McNellie's for almost two hours myself, my father and my sister finally get our meal and my mother gets her soup. I ordered a chili cheeseburger without onions to be served open face on a piece of Texas Toast with a side of fries. Fries are cold and there are onions liberally sprinkled on my burger. Fuck. Then the best part of all, after I start to actually eat this thing, I realize "wait a minute, this is just a goddamn meat patty without bread." Repeat. They served me a goddamn meat patty. At this point I'm barely able to contain my rage and just by the slightest bit am able to keep my composure because I'm with family. I toss my plate in front of me, mutter a few not so nice words and reach for a menu to point out the fact that my sandwich is supposed to be served on a fucking piece of Texas Toast. The called in manager gets me one eventually and I eat my mediocre, onion coated and cold chili cheeseburger. We walked in at 5:15 and left at 7:55. I have enjoyed several evenings at South City in Tulsa. I have had the meatloaf, shepherds pie, a burger, and I can't remember what else. All exceeded my expectations. I was highly disappointed taking my father out for his birthday dinner. We went to the second floor only to have to put up with unsupervised children running and screaming everywhere. They had broken the shuffleboard pucks, all the darts were broke, the pool sticks were being thrown on the ground. We even had to tell another persons child to quit touching our shuffleboard pucks because they hold our license for them. I did order through GrubHub which is the only way we can visit these restaurants. I had a significant problem with my order but not sure if it was McNellies or GrubHub's fault. My wife ordered the salmon, it was suppose to come with Colcannon but was not sent. I order the brats platter which was suppose to come with mashed potatoes and gravy and that also was left out. With the brats I ordered the seasoned green beans which were greasy. The marble rye bread was also too soggy so basically all I got was brats with sauerkraut, Unfortunately first impressions are important and it is not likely that I would order or go there in the future. read more

McNellies' has so many drafts and bottles to choose from it's somewhat difficult to pick one, and to me, that is a great problem to have. There's the main restaurant, the side-bar, and upstairs (be warned, upstairs is smoking). I usually go on Wednesday cause it's Burger Night, $4 for a burger/fries, heck yea! The servers are always nice, if not a little overwhelmed by the crowds from time to time, and the food is pretty solid, too. I've been here a few times and look forward to going back. My favorite meal is the Jimbo's Grilled Cheese Sandwich. It is super cheesy (2 pieces of American and 2 pieces of Swiss cheese) and I order it with bacon. You have a choice of adding bacon and tomato, turkey, or ham. I like to add the sweet potato fries with ranch to go with it. If your looking for choices in beer, you'll also be in the right place. They have a ton of beers on tap. McNellie's was a-ok, but I'm definitely willing to try it again when I'm not trying to fit into a dress for a certain event. It definitely has a pub feel, inside and out, and I bet it draws a lively crowd on the weekends. Unfortunately I don't have the opportunity to test that theory out, but it was fine for dinner on a Tuesday. There were many, MANY options that were calling my name (garden burger! fish and chips! grilled salmon! caesar wrap!) but I settled on the cajun style meatloaf. My coworker ordered the fried pickles for an appetizer and wow. I mean, I've had them before, and they are just so simple and delicious, but McNellie's gave me a reminder of why I should have them again. The meatloaf was fine, but unfortunately nothing special. I liked the sauce with the mashed potatoes but when it was combined with the thick, slightly dry meatloaf, it lost its oomph. McNellie's is one of my favorite places in Tulsa. Best beer selection around, and the food is awesome. Try the Memphis Burger, Take me Back to Tulsa Club, or Chicken Caesar Wrap. You have to get sweet potato fries with ranch at some point. Their tabouli is surprisingly good as well. They recently opened their side bar which gives a lot more bar seating. Upstairs is the smoking area and they occasionally have a band on weekends. Plenty of beer specials and the bartenders know their beer. read more
