Needed a spot off of the freeway to eat a quick breakfast and after spending too long searching yelp I finally decided on McDuff's. I am so happy to say that this was thee perfect choice. I ordered the two egg breakfast and my wife ordered the breakfast burrito and holy wow - both meals were incredibly tasty and filling. The burrito was super good and the potatoes were perfectly cooked. Service was 10/10 and while no you can't get an espresso here, you sure can get an amazing breakfast experience. read more

We arrived with a party of five and were told to wait outside; the cashier responded with an attitude. I waited while the rest of my party walked around to pass time. A different waitress walked out and stated when the rest of my party was here she would seat me. About 1-2 minutes passed and the waitress seated a gentleman and he stated "oh my wife went to pay a bill, etc." The waitress said "oh she's in the same vicinity, it's fine, I'll seat you." I walked in to tell her something because clearly that wasn't the same response I received. My whole party arrived, we walked inside, and were rudely told to step outside again while they cleaned a table. If you're planning to go there and you're clearly a different ethnicity from them, you'll be treated differently. We didn't bother staying and went to a different location. My parents -- myself and family have gone to McDuffs for years. Every Sunday -- however no longer because of the lousy customer service and lack of compassion. Last two times I was refused to be able to take out my order. Waitress was harassing me over the amount of food I was ordering. I've always been allowed and received to go boxes to take my food home. McDuffie with no compassion towards elderly people took away one of the few things my 2 82 yr old parents look forward to. Shame on you. I've been in food service for almost 40 yrs and this place is horrible in regards to customer service not allowing me to order or take food to my elderly parents. Customer is always right. It is a very small place, so getting a table right away really just depends on the time of day. I love there french toast breakfast. I lie how it comes with just one egg, I find two eggs to be over the top. I always get the sausage patty with it. Really salty, really good. The omelettes are also a strong way to go. It comes really fluffy and very filling. Reasonably priced for how big it is. (The home fries are heaven) The only thing I had here and was disappointed with was the waffle. Just really thin, not fluffy, and it was hard. But if a thin waffle is what you like, then maybe this will be the best for you. You really can't go wrong here. Just be patient for a table. read more

Redlands is full of great cafes and foodie spots. This place has all that plus that home feel cooking. Coffee is great, just good ol black with your basics, sugar and cream. Full disclosure: It's been a few years since I've eaten here. I went through a phase a while back of being enamored of American diners with a focus on heavy, good and greasy breakfast food, bottomless mediocre coffee, and a whole lot of syrup and sugar. While I've moved on from that era of my life, I still think McDuff's deserves some respect. It maintains that small-town feel with decent food, a clientele with a many decades age range, and friendly waitstaff. This place is great I'm becoming a regular. Megan is great she is the one that serves my wife and I. We have pretty much tried everything on the menu the food is delicious. The cook gots it going back there never disappointed my favorite is the McDuff's salad and a side of chili with cheese and onions. The wife loves the egg white omelette with spinach and cheese. Megan does a great job helping us. Comes and checks on us every few minutes and is very helpful. Sadly this review has everything to do with the staff since we weren't able to try their food. Their attitude was so horrible we didn't even make it into the restaurant. We opened their door at 1:10pm and hear one of the waitresses whispers to her coworker "Oh my god! Seriously? People are still coming in?!" The look of annoyance on her face was more than enough to make us feel uncomfortable and unwelcomed. For all they knew maybe all we wanted was to try their cinnamon rolls and drink a cup of coffee. Sadly we won't be coming back here, I'll find a brunch place that not only has good food but also a welcoming staff. We ate at McDuff's Saturday morning. we got there around 8:30 so we did not have to wait for a table. If you get there anytime after 9:30 you will have to wait for a table. This is the first time we have ate at McDuff's. I ordered a bacon and cheese omelet, home fries, and a short stack of pancakes. The pancakes seem to be a wheat type pancake, they didn't seem as if they were buttermilk pancakes. If you are looking for a simple breakfast this is the place to go. I did enjoy my breakfast and the price was not bad. The service was fast and the server was kind. we paid about $26 and some change for to breakfast. read more

I ordered steak and eggs for breakfast and asked for the steak to be medium. It came out well done and dry. I asked for a new one and the steak came out rare. I just told the waitress that I didn't want another one, not disrespectfully or rude. Because the place is small, I heard her tell the cook, "She doesn't want this one either". This is mom and pop restaurant food done well. I've been coming here for breakfast for years and the food is consistently good. The oatmeal, cooked with a sprinkling of flax seeds, is an unexpected surprise. The cinnamon roll is like something from grandmas kitchen. The scrambled eggs here taste amazing. The chili is excellent--just spicy enough--so my favourite is the chili and eggs breakfast. It would be practically perfect if they would serve cream instead of milk with the coffee. WARNING: This is a very bad and long review: I was hesitant to write a bad review on McDuffs. I've lived in Redlands 30+ years, my husband is a native, and we've been to McDuffs many times over the years and the food has always been top notch and great service. However, after a long absence from going there, my sisters (there were 4 of us) and I decided to go there today for brunch. (And I'm going to be honest, we had our mind set (and stomachs) set on going to The Eating Room, but they were closed due to a water leak). Upon our arrival, we were told to sit wherever we liked. When the waitress took our drinks order, I thought I detected a "not-so-friendly" disposition from her, but decided not to over-think it, and she was wearing a mask so I couldn't really tell. When she came back to take our food order, we all ordered a breakfast plate, and also decided to split one order of biscuits & gravy between the 4 of us. I ordered Eggs Benedict and I was in the process of telling her that I would like to substitute the Canadian bacon for something else, but before I could say that I wanted avocado instead, she blurted out, "Substitute with what?" in a VERY unfriendly manner. I remember thinking to myself, "Wow, this waitress is kind of rude and not very nice." My sister-in-law decided to order only a bowl of strawberries as she thought the shared order of biscuits & gravy would be enough for her. After the waitress left to go put in our order, we talked her in to ordering a plate as sharing an order of biscuits and gravy would not be enough food for her. She agreed and attempted unsuccessfully to get the waitress's attention before putting in our food order, so my sister-in-law got up from her seat and went over to where the waitress was to inform her that she wanted to order an actual plate of food instead of the strawberries. My sister-in-law walked up to where the waitress was standing and said, "Excuse me, I decided that I want to order a plate of food .... " and mid-sentence the waitress turns around with a very mean and perturbed look on her face and tells my sister-in-law, "Return to your table and I will be there" in a very stern and "scolding" voice! I watched the whole thing from our table and I was shocked at her demeanor and the way she treated my sister-in-law. When waitress was done doing what she was doing, she still didn't come right over to our table to take my sister-in-law's order. After she did a few things she came over and my sister-in-law ordered the Chinese Chicken Salad. The waitress asked her "what dressing" in a snotty tone. We eventually got our food and enjoyed. The food was very good. I am a very slow eater, so we all talked and enjoyed each other's company while I was finishing up my meal. She came over in a little while and asked if she could get us anything else ... we replied "no". We then noticed that our coffee cups needed to be refilled and it then occurred to us that not once while we were eating did she offer a refill of our coffee. Also, by this time, as I stated above, everyone was done eating except for me. She could clearly see this, and didn't even offer to clear our empty plates/dishes, etc., so my sister-in-law cleared them and stacked them all up nicely, including the silverware, so that we could all visit/chat without all the empty dishes on the table. When we got her attention to ask her to refill our coffees, she got ALL perturbed and reluctantly brought the coffee carafes over to give us refills. When she poured my coffee she spilled it and then my coffee cup was sitting in a coffee puddle and my paper coaster was soaked in coffee. She then reached OVER my sister-in-law to pour my sister's coffee refill and she held the carafe approx. 8 inches above her coffee cup! Imagine if the hot coffee spilled/splashed onto my sister! Then my sister-in-law was looking for "real" sugar for the coffee and didn't see it on our table, so instead of "bugging" our waitress again, she got up and went herself to look on an empty table. The waitress saw this, and literally yelled across the room, "There is sugar on your table!" As we were sitting there, other customers (men) were leaving and we could overhear our waitress happily saying goodbye to them with a very cheerful voice. We couldn't help but notice she was very nice and pleasant to the male patrons. It was obvious that for some reason our waitress did not like us from the start. Maybe it was because she is young and we are "boomers"?? We are shocked and perplexed as to why we received such bad service. As the old saying goes, "I'd rather have bad food than bad service". In this case, I'd have to agree with this statement. After our experience at McDuffs today, it just ruined our outing and left a bad taste in my mouth all day. Receipt says it was "Server #2" - blonde girl. I hope she reads this. read more

There are just times when you crave breakfast! and McDuff's is the place to get some good grub! I started coming here a few years ago w/ my best friends. It definitely has the great "hole in the wall" and "family ran" type of environment. I've been stuck and constantly crave their biscuits and gravy!!! BEST I've ever had in my life, and I've had quite a few. Their biscuits and gravy come w/ pouched eggs on top, perfectly runny, for those who like their yolks that way. Also comes w/ AWESOME home fries, always perfectly seasoned...crisp on the outside & tender on the inside. Consistency is always key when coming to any restaurant, and I've gotten the same great food each and every time I've gone back. I've always had their McDuff's Scramble, didn't disappoint as well! and last, get their waffles! Great batter, w/ fresh fruit on top, or honey butter! Absolutely love freshly made waffles. I've been to Belgium before and have tried authentic Belgium waffles, these aren't quite the same, but still have the thickness and heartiness from a Belgium type waffle. To go along w/ your breakfast, I recommend you order their Orange juice!! talk about utilizing the Orange groves that surround Redlands/Loma Linda. Orange juice is always freshly squeezed, definitely cuts through all the delicious, but heavy food this place serves! LOVE this place! read more

Been here about six times now and more or less enjoy it every time. The McDuff's hash is one of their more popular items and I really do recommend it. It's very tasty and hearty, just don't expect to be doing aerobic exercise later in the day after eating it though. Hot sauce really makes this dish a winner. The pancakes are also really good. I can't recall perfectly, but I think they are buckwheat pancakes which are a bit heartier than your normal IHOP fair. They are still quite fluffy and just pleasantly chewy due to the higher protein content flour used. We usual order a stack of these a la carte in addition to our individual food. I've also had some of their lunch items which ... are lacking. Standard cafe sort of stuff like sandwiches, nothing terrible but nothing close to impressive. Service is average, but sometimes curt. I don't think a server has ever been outright rude to us, but sometimes they act as if they haven't slept in three days or are just over it all. That all being said, I recommend this place over Carolyn's by a long shot. You won't have to wait either. read more

My husband had been here before years ago and enjoyed his breakfast so we decided to give it a try today. We walk in and (they can clearly see we have a baby with us) tell us it will be 10 minutes. When they call us in she directs us to a table and then says " I'll have someone clean it off" Great. And guess what? No high chair either. So we ask for one and they say they don't have any but have booster seats. So we ask if they strap to the chairs and they say they don't. A baby just a few months old can't sit down anywhere without being secure, come on people. Seeing as we came in with a baby, wouldn't the best thing for them to do was tell us they couldn't accommodate to us? At least we would've went somewhere else! Shady people. Now the service: Also sucked. We had to wait forever for a waitress to take our order and after she did it took even longer for us to get out food. We had to ask for our toast, we were starving. So my husband is walking around with the baby as we are waiting and they bring us our food and we had ordered the Chili and eggs, and the Eggs Benedict. Chili and eggs: the chili was good but it was not hot. Warm at best, which doesn't make any sense seeing as we had to wait so long to get it. The potatoes were ok. Eggs Benedict: Were as the pervious reviews have stated, bland. And just covered in the sauce that didn't taste like anything. Not only that but throughout our whole meal the service was horrible. The girls that work here don't even deserve a paycheck they don't even ask if you need anything and make a face when you wave them down for something. All of these things we read in past reviews, but had come in hoping the service was better. Never again. I mean the chef was even pushing the plates out of the slot for the girls to grab and almost knocked things over doing so. The girls would just walk past him. Aware that it was there but doing "more important" things like putting dishes away. The only good thing here was the toast and the chili, had it been hot. And that's saying a lot about this place. When my husband paid he told the lady that they really should invest in some high chairs. The lady in response said "yeah that would probably never happen" I mean really? Who doesn't accommodate to families with small babies? This place obviously on top of horrible work ethic has poor restaurant management skills. I just have to say, today was AMAZING. The three girls servings, the cooks even the dish washer. All of them were moving so fast and so in sync. There was no table not sat and not dish sitting. We come here every week with our two roommates and it never cease to amazing us! The crew you have working today in this Saturday was AMAZING! I don't have any other words. Wanted to pay for my crappy coffee and leave but hubby said let's give it a try. I asked if the cinnamon roll was fresh, waitress said I think they are frozen. Pass. This is without a doubt my favorite breakfast spot in all of Redlands. The food is all awesome and it's such a cute little place. I always feel like a regular. The eggs benedict and biscuits & gravy are AMAZING. Top those off with your mimosa split and you are set for your weekend nap! On the lunch note, their chicken salad with rice vinegar is GREAT. Perfect little hole in the wall for brunch or just breakfast or lunch. My friend brought me here recently as we were in the area to hit the antique malls and vintage shops. The place was busy with no more than a 15 minute wait. It reminds me a little of Mel's Diner.. The old TV show. This place exudes an old charm. Simple menu and if you enjoy a Mimosa for brunch they offer Cook's splits here. Obviously a crappy champagne but at lest they have it. The OJ here has to be fresh squeezed it was amazing. Brunch was brunch.. Simple and good. The coffee on the other hand was the worst coffee that I have ever had, It tasted like burnt grounds with a smokey taste to it. Gross just really sick.... Everything else was great.. This place seems to be frequented by a cast group.. Both young and old gather here making this an interesting people watching place. read more
