Dined here last night 8/2/26 around 8pm. 8:17 your female bartender was eating behind the bar directly across from us. At 8:25 she had a cheese curd with her cleaning gloves on and never changed them. Mind you she was cleaning the bar and stopped to eat but I dunno. There was more focus from both bartenders in getting ahead on their closing side work then conversing with customers who had never been there - and sadly won't be back. Too bad. Seemed like a nice spot.

The vibe was great! The staff was very friendly, and the food and drinks came out quickly, which I really appreciated. Our waitress gave us some great suggestions for new drinks to try, and the mac and cheese was so good. I also appreciated how kind they were when they were trying to kick us out so they could use the table again I kept ordering wine because I was really enjoying the place. Just a heads up: the speakeasy inside requires a separate reservation. I accidentally booked a regular in-room reservation instead of the specific area I wanted within the restaurant. If you want the speakeasy/book club area, make sure to select that option when making the reservation. Now I know for next time, I'll definitely be trying that! Either way, it was a great night. The prices aren't high and are very reasonable. I'll definitely be back.

First time here for brunch after church and before our movie at the Harkins this afternoon. Plenty of street parking in downtown and also a parking garage available. Love the interior decoration, the dark walls, high ceilings, dim classy lighting, the indoor and patio seating. I like it when restaurants use mirrors to create the effect of making it seem longer or more spacious. The bar was stellar, prettily backlit, with a rolling ladder needed to reach the top shelf! We were greeting warmly at the front door and seated right away at 12:30 which was fantastic considering all the foot traffic in downtown Redlands on a Sunday afternoon. Our server, Savannah, was super prepared for our question of the most popular dishes on the menu, including her personal favorites. We ordered the pesto chivjrn sandwich with side salad of mixed greens and lemon vinaigrette, as well as the chicken and waffles. Only waters on the side (which Savannah refilled hot is a couple times) because we wanted to stay wide awake for the movie. While we waited for our brunch we had the perfect vantage point to watch the bartender with a shaker in each hand, making two simultaneous cocktails and pouring ambidextrously. Cool!! The chicken and waffles were delicious (5/5)-- both crispy and flavorful, maple syrup already on the waffles, chicken tender enough to cut with a fork. The pesto sandwich was yummy but I wish that the garlic sauce and pesto was between the chicken and the arugula rather than between the arugula and the bread--reason is I got tired of bread by the second half but then eating the chicken and arugula was slightly bland because the garlic and pesto had completely absorbed into the bread. (4.5/5)--still satisfying, maybe I'd ask for extra pesto on the side next time. The side salad was scrumptious--no notes! Highly recommend!!!

We came here for dinner. It's for a nice and modern ambience. We ordered two appetizers and three main entrees to share. Honestly, they were all ok, nothing really stood out to me. The meatballs weren't good at all the meatballs themselves got no taste. Beignets were the best out of all the items we ordered. With drinks, our bill was close to $250. I don't think the food and drinks they offered worth that price.

I came here during happy hour and was very happy about the food and whiskey options. What a very cool vibe kind of place and very relaxing. The server was outstanding. I'll be back for their tacos and truffle burger again.

Where do I even start!? 1. Great service 2. Great environment 3. Great great food!! The fried oysters, absolutely delicious. The beignets, yumm!! The steak and mashed potatoes, perfect. I am definitely coming back.

Nice vibe with fancy mirrors on the inside that make it look bigger. The food was solid. I was denied a booth even though I had a reservation and the reasoning was "it's for reservations". Watched a party of my size sit there soon after. Aside from that the service was decent.

Dined on October 7, 2025 - but eat here often!! This place is always a great option when in downtown Redlands. Large restaurant with a large patio and large bar area. SERVICE: Service was great today. We were seated right away and our server was very nice. They seem to get a lot of new servers, but they all must train well! FOOD: As always, food came out great! I had their street tacos for Taco Tuesday, my wife had their meatballs and bruschetta; and my daughter had the avocado tempura wraps and some fries. You can not go wrong here. The food is Fab! And their prices are reasonable. And if you want some great drinks? This is the place too!

Our first time at The State and will definitely be going back. We made a reservation and were seated on our arrival. The staff is friendly and welcoming. Service with a smile :) By far one of the best burgers I've had in a while. Cooked to perfection with fresh ingredients. I opted for a side salad and accompanied it with a Crispín Hard Cider. The restaurant has a good vibe with mixed seating that can accommodate different group sizes. There didn't appear to be a bad seat in the house. It is located in the historic downtown area which makes for a nice evening out.

Always luv a visit at the state great service. Waiting area in front with bench seat. Front area with large open space, bar or inside seating booths or bar height tables. Luv a good poutine! This is one to try. Melty cheese please. Drinks are great with mocktails also available. HH menu during the week. Limited parking right in front along the downtown strip additional parking a block or two away.

My son and I went on a dinner date here. The food was delicious, but the portion size were a little small. The lighting is done dim and that can be a little bit undesirable. If you're not ready for it they only had two TVs in the bar and you couldn't see them really from the patio and there was a dodger game on. overall we had a great time and Sierra was a great server!

Cool spot. First time visiting and it was on NYE, without a reservation. Other spots were too full but we were able to get under and got seats at the big window looking out at Downtown Redlands. They weren't open due to the rain and cold but still a great view to people watch. Our waitress was super nice and attentive and the food was delicious! Can't wait to visit again.

Stopped here to grab a bite to eat with the family on Saturday close to 3. The location has a small front with patio seating to watch foot traffic, and then a long lengthen dining hall inside with bench seating and a couple stand alone bar height tables in the center. We were a party of 7 and while booths were not available we were able to grab one of the two bar height tables which can accommodate up to 8 people. I posted a picture of the kids menu as I could not find one in previous post. Service was a bit slow in taking orders but they made up for it by giving *unprompted* waters to the entire table and a cut up strawberry/couple slices of green apple to each kiddo in our group. This was amazing to me because when dining with kids they always get cranky waiting for food if hungry, so this "kid appetizer" given to them beforehand took away the stress of getting them orders in quickly.

Hello, yes the full menu is available

How good are the oysters here?

    They are amazing

Is the ribeye still $36 with 2 sides?

    Yes.

Can I order your delicious Poutine at brunch?

    Hi! You most definitely can!

    Outside dining available?

Not really. They have like an open area that's facing outside but it's not a patio.

So is are y'all open again? Tried coming here a few months back and all the window and doors were boarded shut

The State did a soft re-opening on 7-26-21. They have been steadily ramping back up with staff, etc. It is fully open now and BEAUTIFUL! Go check them out.

What are some good Vegan options?

There is a vegan burger and vegan pasta.

    Are you "dog friendly"?

Nope, keep rover at the crib.

How is the outside seating right now during the pandemic?

The outside seating is available, but spaced out. There's two tables for groups of 3 or more, but other than that, there's bar stool seating for four groups of 2 each.

How many grams of sugar are in the zoodle and meatball dish?

Probably best you just eat at home.

Do they do take out orders?

Yes we do. But, all take-out orders must be done in person. No phone orders.

From the pictures it appears there's only two televisions, is the State a good place to watch Sports ie. Sunday Football?

Good morning, Yes, we only have two TV’s. We will definitely have the football games on. Unfortunately we do not have the Sunday Ticket. The games that we will be…

Does this restaurant take reservations? We would be a party of 8.

Hi Michelle, It is first come first serve but you are welcome to call 45-60 mins ahead to be added…

Does this location serve bottomless mimosas on a Saturday?

Both locations serve “almost bottomless” mimosas sat and Sunday from 10am-2pm. We have a limit of 6 per guest for $15 for the safety of guests and to comply with ABC laws.

Do they have any vegan options for brunch? Like a tofu scramble?

They now have lots of Vegan options!

Does this restaurant accommodate rehearsal dinners?

Hello, I'm sure they do. I saw them accommodate a large birthday party when I was there once. I'm sure you have to call in advance to let them prepare.

    Do you serve Sunday brunch?

Yes, we serve brunch on Saturdays and Sundays: 10:00 am to 2 pm

Question for you all. If you arent 21 are you still able to eat here?

We seated ourselves at our favorite raised table in the corner on the far side of the bar. My husband and I stuck to traditional cocktails, and old fashioned and a Negroni. Our server explained to our friend that he should sip a little of the drink, then chew the Szechuan buzz bud for about 15 seconds, letting it coat his whole tongue, then enjoy the rest of the drink which would taste different afterwards. Our friend went through all those steps and said it was incredible, like all the flavors were enhanced along with different sensations in his mouth, kind of numb and tingly. His wife was not satisfied with his description of the experience, so she bought a Szechuan buzz bud for $2 and she said it was kind of like pop rocks. We decided on weekend brunch, especially since there were endless mimosas. Our kids have a recollection of being down the class umbrella alleyway, so they were amazed when they saw it. A short while later, we were in front of the restaurant and were quickly seated by the staff. They didn't ask if we preferred outdoor or indoor seating, but we were seated inside right next to the kitchen. We heard that indoor seating was better for service anyway. The interior of the restaurant was "very fancy," and my daughter thought we were in a date spot. We knew we wanted French fries and opted for the garlic Parmesan fries. At first, the kids were weirded out by the arugula, but my daughter ended up enjoying it, noting the bitter and salty notes. My son devoured the entire plate (not the arugula) and asked for another round. We also ordered the lemon ricotta French toast, made from Brioche bread, lemon blackberry butter, whipped lemon ricotta cream, blackberries, mint, and maple syrup. They perfected the crispy exterior, which contrasted well with the fluffy bread. My wife ordered the breakfast pizza--a focaccia pizza topped with marinara, ham, spinach, fresh tomato, red onion, a sunny-side-up egg, and herb-infused maple syrup. This was really delicious with the tart, fresh tomatoes, the salty ham, and the sweet maple syrup. I ended up eating the sunny-side egg by itself, so we didn't get to try the pizza with the egg. Lastly, I ordered the steak and eggs, but it was sadly a small portion. I ordered it medium rare, and it came out medium. The seasoning was a bit strange and would have been better with simple salt, pepper, and garlic. The mimomas really made my wife happy. She started feeling it pretty quickly. She chose the pineapple juice while I got the traditional orange. Not sure if the alcohol made the food better or the other way around. I was brought to reality when I saw the expensive bill, though.
