Had a chance to visit both the State in Rancho and Redlands. This review will be for Redlands. To put it simply- Amazing spot in the heart of Redlands. The quality of food was fresh, prepared just right, and the service was fast and welcoming. It's in the nice down town Redlands area so never too busy or loud, in the small city. Our server, Aubrey, was also AWESOME so definitly give her a raise lol. My buddies and I were wanting some steaks and drinks after work, and we were not disappointed. 100% will be back. The only thing to be weary of is if you get outdoor seating. Many folks downtown tend to smoke marijuana so sometimes the smell will make its way into the patio area. read more

Dined here last night 8/2/26 around 8pm. 8:17 your female bartender was eating behind the bar directly across from us. At 8:25 she had a cheese curd with her cleaning gloves on and never changed them. Mind you she was cleaning the bar and stopped to eat but I dunno. There was more focus from both bartenders in getting ahead on their closing side work then conversing with customers who had never been there - and sadly won't be back. Too bad. The vibe was great! The staff was very friendly, and the food and drinks came out quickly, which I really appreciated. Our waitress gave us some great suggestions for new drinks to try, and the mac and cheese was so good. I also appreciated how kind they were when they were trying to kick us out so they could use the table again I kept ordering wine because I was really enjoying the place. Just a heads up: the speakeasy inside requires a separate reservation. I accidentally booked a regular in-room reservation instead of the specific area I wanted within the restaurant. If you want the speakeasy/book club area, make sure to select that option when making the reservation. Now I know for next time, I'll definitely be trying that! Either way, it was a great night. First time here for brunch after church and before our movie at the Harkins this afternoon. Plenty of street parking in downtown and also a parking garage available. Love the interior decoration, the dark walls, high ceilings, dim classy lighting, the indoor and patio seating. I like it when restaurants use mirrors to create the effect of making it seem longer or more spacious. The bar was stellar, prettily backlit, with a rolling ladder needed to reach the top shelf! We were greeting warmly at the front door and seated right away at 12:30 which was fantastic considering all the foot traffic in downtown Redlands on a Sunday afternoon. Our server, Savannah, was super prepared for our question of the most popular dishes on the menu, including her personal favorites. We ordered the pesto chivjrn sandwich with side salad of mixed greens and lemon vinaigrette, as well as the chicken and waffles. Only waters on the side (which Savannah refilled hot is a couple times) because we wanted to stay wide awake for the movie. While we waited for our brunch we had the perfect vantage point to watch the bartender with a shaker in each hand, making two simultaneous cocktails and pouring ambidextrously. Cool!! The chicken and waffles were delicious (5/5)-- both crispy and flavorful, maple syrup already on the waffles, chicken tender enough to cut with a fork. The pesto sandwich was yummy but I wish that the garlic sauce and pesto was between the chicken and the arugula rather than between the arugula and the bread--reason is I got tired of bread by the second half but then eating the chicken and arugula was slightly bland because the garlic and pesto had completely absorbed into the bread. (4.5/5)--still satisfying, maybe I'd ask for extra pesto on the side next time. The side salad was scrumptious--no notes! Highly recommend!!! read more

We came here for dinner. It's for a nice and modern ambience. We ordered two appetizers and three main entrees to share. Honestly, they were all ok, nothing really stood out to me. The meatballs weren't good at all the meatballs themselves got no taste. Beignets were the best out of all the items we ordered. With drinks, our bill was close to $250. St Patrick's day was my first time here. Would I come back? Maybe, just not in a group. 1. Only 1 bar tender on a big night. 2. Food (taco Tuesday) was meh. 3. This is the biggest reason for 3 stars-we had a large group 20ish people. Not once did the servers, manager, etc say that they would split the bill 3 ways, period. Reservations were made in advance, nothing about splitting the tab three ways. I was one of the firsts to be seated at the tables, no mention of splitting the tab evenly. I was the first to order and the first to cash out- that's when the server said something about splitting three ways. If this is the policy then that is fine but SOMEONE HAS to say something ! read more

Our first time at The State and will definitely be going back. We made a reservation and were seated on our arrival. The staff is friendly and welcoming. Service with a smile :) By far one of the best burgers I've had in a while. Cooked to perfection with fresh ingredients. I opted for a side salad and accompanied it with a Crispín Hard Cider. The restaurant has a good vibe with mixed seating that can accommodate different group sizes. There didn't appear to be a bad seat in the house. Cool spot. First time visiting and it was on NYE, without a reservation. Other spots were too full but we were able to get under and got seats at the big window looking out at Downtown Redlands. Stopped here to grab a bite to eat with the family on Saturday close to 3. The location has a small front with patio seating to watch foot traffic, and then a long lengthen dining hall inside with bench seating and a couple stand alone bar height tables in the center. We were a party of 7 and while booths were not available we were able to grab one of the two bar height tables which can accommodate up to 8 people. I posted a picture of the kids menu as I could not find one in previous post. Service was a bit slow in taking orders but they made up for it by giving *unprompted* waters to the entire table and a cut up strawberry/couple slices of green apple to each kiddo in our group. This was amazing to me because when dining with kids they always get cranky waiting for food if hungry, so this "kid appetizer" given to them beforehand took away the stress of getting them orders in quickly. read more

My family and I stopped by downtown Redlands for lunch on our way to Joshua Tree. Honestly, The State was unexpectedly so good. I ordered the Caesar salad ($12) and it may have been the best Caesar salad I've ever eaten. What really elevates the salad is the blackened romaine lettuce. The char on that romaine gives the salad an added layer of flavor. Delish. Highly recommend this if you love a good Caesar salad. The pesto chicken sandwich ($16) was also quite good. It comes with a chicken breast topped shredded Asiago, chopped applewood bacon + arugula with roasted tomato basil sauce on a ciabatta roll. I'm really motivated by anything pesto related, so naturally I found myself ordering this sandwich. The chicken breast is not only proportionally very generous - it's incredibly moist. The shredded Asiago and bacon give it so much added flavor. It's a very good chicken club sitch. While I often find ciabatta bread to be dreadfully chewy, I was pleasantly surprised with this one - it was soft and the pesto seamlessly fit into all of its nooks and crannies. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious and service was incredible. I thought this place would be yet another overhyped suburb restaurant, but I was wrong. Been here quite a few times- food is consistently good. Drinks are also nice and strong. It's dark inside, the vibe is slightly upscale and attracts young & old alike. We were just strolling Downtown Redlands on an early evening on the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend. I thought it would be busier but luckily for our party of four it seemed like people had either left town for the long weekend or they were all hanging out at the Mountain Grove and/or Citrus Plaza areas. Good for them! Better for us!! We quickly looked at the menu and found dishes we would be interested to try and when I asked about the wait they said there was no wait! We were seated quickly and had time to relax and enjoy the ambiance. You feel like you've almost stepped through a space time continuum with the low lights of antique style bulbs along the walls and overhead. I unfortunately did not take any pictures but I imagine if I had, the members of my party would have looked even younger than they usually do because of the soft lighting. The bar looked really classy--almost like an old European tavern. The server was Erica and she was friendly and had a great smile. My husband's brother in law wanted to try poutine for the first time and he called it "proteineo" when he ordered it and Erica laughed gently and said it was great and she would be calling it that from now on. I abstain from beef but the others really liked the appetizer. My husband and his brother in law had the brisket tacos and agreed they were flavorful and filling. My sister in law had the grilled cheese with spinach and artichoke and enjoyed it as she shared the other half with her husband since the portions are generous. I ordered the shiitake mushroom risotto which was also filling but not very flavorful (because of the lack of protein, I'm sure). I've been wanting to try the State for a while since it's one of the more well known spots in Downton Redlands and was intrigued by some of the offerings on the menu. We kind of splurged on the menu since we don't visit the area too often. Highlight for me was the appetizers, really liked the poutine and bacon wrapped dates! The poutine had short rib pieces which was super tender and good! As for the main dishes, we liked them as well. The pork chop was good but there could have been more sauce and we found the portions without the sauce to be a bit dry. The Mac and cheese was solid as well, just wish the sauce was thicker and less runny. Overall, the state is a good restaurant but missing that wow factor. There were just a few things here and there that we would have changed about the dishes. read more

I made a reservation for a friend and I on Labor Day at 2pm. We approached the counter and let the hostess know of our reservation. We were seated quickly afterward even before our reservation time. The restaurant was pretty full, but not totally. We were seated and the table had a little electric candle. The menu is on the QR code. Our waitress always made sure to check in on us to see if had any questions or needed anything. My friend chose the mammas meatballs and I chose the Cajun shrimp macaroni and cheese. I really want to love this place, but this is the second bad experience I've had there. The 1st was being told they were "trying something new" and were reservation only. The place was pretty empty and they wouldn't even let us sit at the tables near the bar. They offered to make us a reservation but the soonest would be in 20 mins...again the place was pretty empty. This time we went after the car show today, were greeted and seated right away. We sat for at least 15mins and never got service. Multiple staff walked by us busing tables, checking on the table next to us, etc. We left when another party of 3 was seated and immediately acknowledged by a server and even served water. This genuinely saddens me to write because I usually enjoy this restaurant, but after experiencing this 3 times in the last month or two, I feel it's important to share. The food and ambiance are great, but the first impression at the front has consistently felt unwelcoming. I'd encourage management to review how guests are being greeted during brunch/day shifts by a particular woman. I always try to give grace for an off day, but repeatedly not being acknowledged or greeted upon walking in does not feel welcoming, especially when another staff member usually has to step in and engage with guests instead. Recently ate here, ordered the new steak frites and their house margarita and was not disappointed what so ever. The steak was well seasoned by itself and with the additional chimichurri sauce i felt gave it a complete flavor. The fries had their own flavor and it balanced out with the steak bites. Our waitress gave a good, friendly service. The drink was average strong, so after the third/fourth a uber should be called. It was kinda dark inside the restaurant which added to the ambiance but if you cant see well it might be a issue. I would recommend and it a nice date location. read more

Picked this place based on reviews, but would say its overrated. We ordered the Poutine and the Drunken Pig. The Poutine was not a traditional Poutine and was too rich to eat as a meal. It needed more fries, it only had a few soaked in the gravy. The dish was mainly cheese. The Drunken Pig did not end up having much flavour and the ingredients did not compliment each other even though it sounded so good on paper. The cocktails however were delicious and I would highly recommend the Bee's Please. We ended with a bread pudding that had some good bites but was not consistent throughout. It was cooked as peices and some parts of it was yummy and others not so much. Again I would just say this place is overrated. read more
