Burgers come out raw here. Ordered medium. Took a couple of bites from it before noticing how raw it was (the lights are very dim) Politely asked our waitress to make it right. We were given the hamburger back with chunks of raw meat. We got the message loud and clear from our waitress and cook. The place was not busy and they were well staffed. Walked in on a Saturday afternoon for a late lunch and there was no wait. We got seated and our waiter informed us we'd have a 90 minute dining limit. The menu is a QR code but they also have a small printed out menu with some deals they have. The have 3 restrooms next to the kitchen. The overall decor is unique and nice. For the food I usually go for their burgers and so far they've all tasted great! I asked for things on the side such as pickles, jalapeños, and ranch. They did not charge an extra fee for it so that was a big plus. I got the State burger with fries (extra charge) and it was cooked very well. I'd return to this location. Just be aware that parking in front is limited as there are many businesses in the area. There's a parking structure up the street too. read more

My boyfriend and I visited last night, and while the atmosphere was nice, the experience left us disappointed. We're a biracial couple he's white, I'm Black and the difference in how we were treated compared to other guests was hard to ignore. The restaurant wasn't busy at all we were one of only three couples sitting on the patio. The manager, Brittany, was very attentive and friendly with the other couples but noticeably distant with us. At first, I thought maybe it was because we hadn't ordered food yet and were just having drinks. But when she brought my second drink, she simply set it on the table without saying a word or acknowledging us, then walked away. My boyfriend and I looked at each other wondering what the issue was. Our waitress was polite and even suggested a drink for my boyfriend, which we appreciated. He ordered me the short rib tacos, but after about 20 minutes, she came back only to ask if he was ready to order food. He said no, but by then, my tacos still hadn't arrived. Another 20 minutes and a third round of drinks later still no food. With the restaurant nearly empty, there was really no reason for the delay, so we decided to leave. It's disappointing to spend money somewhere and still feel overlooked and uncomfortable. Every guest deserves to feel welcomed and respected regardless of who they are or who they're with. I truly hope management takes this feedback seriously and provides better training to ensure consistent, respectful service for everyone. read more

Bacon Wrapped Dates were good, and so was Poutine, thick with Cheese Curds. My State Burger, prepared medium rare as ordered, was juicy with fresh lettuce and tomato, and accompanied by golden O' Rings. As someone who did not come here for the bar scene, midday around noon, and was just looking for an enjoyable meal, I was severely disappointed by my experience. It was not busy, so there's no excuse for terrible experience you are about to read. The first issue was when my boyfriend ordered the Fried Brussels Sprouts. They were under seasoned and seemingly didn't have any of the balsamic reduction. They were a large batch of Brussels which are supposed to quartered but were only cut in half and weren't properly cooked because of it. He couldn't even comfortably eat them. He asked for a side of the balsamic reduction which helped but still wasn't great cause he couldn't toss them. Then our meals came. I ordered the Bourbon Barbecue Burger. My burger was extremely over salted and the Onion Rings were not crispy. The best part of the burger was the bacon on it. My fries were not fresh or hot at all and were extremely salty. It had to have been from at least 3 different batches. I had my boyfriend try them and he agreed they were absolutely disgusting. We let the server know about the fries and she brought out ones that were actually fresh and not over salted. Really wish those had been the first ones I tried. My boyfriend ordered The Drunken Pig Burger with a side salad. The burger was so salty that you couldn't really taste the bacon jam or enjoy it. The salad was bitter and dry, only had a drizzle of the lemon vinaigrette. We each only ate half of our burgers and the rest went into the trash. After we left, we both could taste the salt and feel the pressure in our bodies for hours. We drank so much water just trying to get the overwhelming salt taste out of our mouths. This place would benefit off of retraining their cooks. Management should really get on this issue. Curb appeal might look nice but don't be fooled! Go anywhere but here for food. read more

So we just wanted some good drinks and well, couldn't resist some of the shareables offered. But anyway, drinks is variable so I'm not gonna tell you what or what not to drink. But here, poutine is a fun way to enjoy fries, cheese curds, and meat. It's a fancier take on the yummy canadian snack so it was probably my favorite shareable. The bruschetta was decent for all it's worth but nothing to freak out about either. Take a bite and press on. The cheese plate was, well, it's kind of a filler item. You could easily make this at home if you do a local grocery store run but for all the lazies out there like me, this is a nice pairing with your drinks. Finally visited The State on a Tuesday Night. It was the perfect place for date night. It wasn't packed & the service was great. My husband and I arrived at around 8:30 & were seated immediately. I loved the dimmed lights & loved that they were playing alternative indie rock. Not too loud which was perfect, you can still have conversations. My husband ordered the Irish pub burger. He said it was very flavorful & good. The fries were delicious! I had the Velouté Chicken. The sauce was very good & the chicken so tender & juicy. The mash potatoes were a little bit on the dry side but I mixed it a little with the chicken sauce and made it better. I really liked this place, I would love to come back and try something else in the menu & would definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting to try it. read more

This is my third time to this restaurant over the years. I do really enjoy this restaurant, but there are a couple things to consider when you're coming to this restaurant. They have a great happy hour and the food here was good. I had that tacos and the bacon wrapped dates both which were excellent. The surface was attentive, but the thing you to be aware of is, it's a little dark and it can be quite noisy. This restaurant is good for most people, but I would not recommend for elderly people that are sensitive to noise . We had margaritas. I thought that it had a little bit of an acidity taste to it, but the rest of the people enjoyed it. I will definitely come again, but try something else from the bar. read more

We came here last night for dinner and a drink about 7pm. We ordered the Rum for the hills, bacon wrapped dates and a couple of burgers. The food was tasty drink on pointe. The downs: the rock music is so very loud and unpleasant. I've never been to a restaurant where they played that type of music for dinner. To each their own. The worst part, however, is that I brought the other half of my smash burger home to eat the next day. Something was sticking out of it so I pulled it out and found a corse hair, hair follicle and all. I'm guessing a beard hair by the texture and size (god, I hope so). Needless to say I didn't not continue to eat that burger and it sickens me to even think of it. I've been to the State in Rancho before but I don't know that I'll ever return here. I chose this place to celebrate my partners birthday, and they didn't even do anything for it. Not sure if they do or not, but why was it even option when making a reservation...? On top of that we were never greeted when we arrived, just awkward stares from the host. Service was bare minimum, didn't even know who my waitress was, or her name, and I'm suppose to leave a tip for what exactly? Filling my water? My party ordered the breakfast burgers, my table got their plates and all was fine, when it came to my plate the rude tall waitress removed the bun from my burger with her bare hands to check it or something and then smashed the bun back down. I looked at her and told her I do not want that burger since she touched my food with her bare hands. The girl had the nerve to give me an attitude and proceeded to say her hands were washed! She did not like that I called her out on her nasty behavior and took the plate back with out apologizing. Funny enough, she did not notify our actual waitress about what happened either, about 10-15 minutes later the manager came out to say sorry and gave me a "new" plate. The way that girl touched my food with her gross hands and then proceeded to give me an attitude was horrible and made me feel uncomfortable. You guys need to do better and teach your staff how to be a bit more courteous and professional, especially when they are the ones that make a mistake. When in the food industry, sanitation is very very important and you guys should have known better. Will not be returning here. Get the Onion Rings, we are still talking about them weeks later. So so good and such a great texture. The artichoke sandwich was a delight. We scarfed down the poutine. Was strolling through downtown redlands after dinner with a sweet tooth. I am a big fan of bread pudding and hands down, The State has the best bread pudding I have ever tried. I went here for a late lunch with friends. I ordered the Spinach & Artichoke Grilled Cheese (spinach, artichoke, asiago & mozzarella cheese with garlic aioli on sourdough) and up graded to fries as my side instead of the salad. It was delicious! I would 100% order it again. The fries were the perfect amount of crispy as well! Our server was very attentive and we got drinks refreshed frequently! I hadn't been here since the remodeling. It's very cozy and warm. The only issue I had is it's hard to read the menu in the dim lighting. The internet services is poor for Verizon users too so reading the online menu isn't an option. Thankfully while waiting outside I read the menu that is posted on the side of the building. I have visited The State a few times over the past 10 years. It's a fun place to have a drink or a bite to eat. The menu doesn't have a lot of healthy choices, but there are three or four salads that are healthy. Most of the cuisine is traditional American food. The State has an extensive beer selection. Major bonus points for having my favorite beer on tap - Smog City Coffee Porter. We both had The State Salad with sauteed shrimp. The salad was mostly lettuce with three or four candied almonds and six or seven small shrimp. It tasted good but there's room for improvement. The hype is real... The State is where it's at! Hubby and I like trying new spots, so we landed on The State this time around and I'm so glad we did. We went on Saturday afternoon and got seated right away. We loved that already we also loved that it was so fresh inside, it was a hot one that day so anywhere where the AC was pumping was perfect for us! Hubby ordered a burger on their specials menu, that had brisket and a burger on it and he loved it. Said everything was cooked perfect. I ordered The Drunken Pig, and when I say I still have dreams about it to this day... man oh man was it delicious! Ordered it medium and it came out perfect with such great flavor. The exclusivity has been lost, aesthetics in the dishes, the music and the intimate touch, the bartenders had a party, there were very large groups that did not stop shouting, there was more silence and more intimacy outside.
