We stopped by Caprice for lunch on a Saturday... and let's just say it was an exercise in managing expectations. They were out of potatoes so no fries with any of the meals and gluten-free options were basically limited to a salad (hold the dressing). It was unclear whether that was truly the case or just a knowledge gap, but either way, it wasn't very accommodating. My son ordered the kids pizza... which also turned out to also be unavailable. At lunchtime. On a Saturday. Service was on the slower side, and the hamburger was unfortunately bland and tasted like it may have seen the inside of a freezer at some point in its life. Cute location in downtown Redlands. The menu has lots of options, and service was good. The food was okay, I feel like items were overpriced for their quality overall. The complimentary bread was delicious- thick pieces of toast for the table. The beet salad was refreshing, and the lamb chop entree was well cooked but I didn't enjoy the sides it came with. Had dinner here with my girlfriend for an early dinner. I've been wanting to try this place as I always pass by when I'm in the area. I ordered the prosciutto crostini (which is a crostini topped with burrata, green peas, Asian pear, & parmigiano) & pasta ribbons & pesto (which is asparagus, mushrooms, parmigiano, & I got mine with shrimp). My friend got pappardelle pasta (which came with grilled shrimp, spinach, mushrooms, & lemon-thyme cream sauce). I enjoyed the crostini more than the pasta. The crostini was really good as all the components compliment each other. The sweetness of the pear masks out the saltiness of the prosciutto. Then you get the crunch from the crostini & asparagus. But IMO, there was a little too much prosciutto for my liking, and it was hard to eat as there were so many elements on the crostini & everything kept falling off. As much as I love pesto, this pasta dish wasn't it. It was a little too dry for my liking. The pesto was pastey and made the pasta dry. The only thing I liked in this dish was my shrimp. I didn't get a taste of my friend's pasta but it looked better than my pesto pasta. The service here was great. We were rated right away. We sat outdoors & still got good service. This restaurant is tucked away in the corner of State & 5th St of Downtown Redlands. I didn't really see the inside of the restaurant, but from my experience of sitting outside, it's pretty chill. First of all, a big thank you to our server Ryan whose helpful suggestions and overall pleasant demeanor made this a delightful experience . Dinner at Caprice Cafe for my wife's birthday. Food was excellent! I had the Rainbow Trout/Green Beans/Almonds and my wife had the Pappardelle Shrimp dish. The bread was very good/fresh. Service is slow, but reminds me of dinner experiences in Europe. The table is yours, and no one is rushing you to finish your meal. Servers do tend to leave you alone, so you may need to work to get their attention. Atmosphere was cozy/nice/relaxed/quiet. Dessert was the best Cinnamon Apple Dumpling dish we both ever tried-delicious! We did have a minor issue with our wine (cork), which was handled to our satisfaction, to the credit of Caprice Cafe staff. First time at Caprice Cafe, and we both give it high marks. My husband and I had one of the worst dining experiences we've ever had at this restaurant, entirely due to shockingly unprofessional behavior from the bartender with a mustache. Instead of doing his job, he repeatedly ignored us while openly flirting with and touching the busser directly in front of guests. It was constant, inappropriate, and made us extremely uncomfortable. We were just left sitting there waiting while he prioritized personal interactions over paying customers, laughing it up with his coworkers and especially the female servers instead of tending to guests. Us and the couple next to eachother just kept looking at each other in shock that this was actually happening. He barely took five seconds to ask us quickly what we wanted and was so rude when taking our orders. He then quickly returned back to his friends he was working with. Because of this, service was painfully slow. Drinks took forever, food took even longer, and when it finally arrived, the quality was awful. Poorly prepared, unappetizing, and absolutely not worth the wait. As if that weren't bad enough, we also saw rats and droppings on the floor, which is beyond unacceptable and a serious health concern. That alone should be enough to shut this place down until sanitation is addressed. Between the bartender's blatant disregard for guests, the uncomfortable and inappropriate behavior on the floor, the terrible food, and the unsanitary conditions, this restaurant completely failed on every level. The hostess/server sat us on a small two top in an aisle, while there were 5 larger tables available. "Here, this would be it" she said. Fortunately, our server was Mari, who's comment "You know, I can read minds, would you like to move to another table?" From there on, everything was lovely. This was our first time visiting the Caprice Cafe. When you first arrive, the opening to door is not very apparent-adds a bit of mystique. We made reservations, weeks before because it was a special night. When we get there the front- of -house couldn't find our reservation. After she did find it, we were offered a horrible seat in a busy and narrow aisle on the bar side, not the restaurant side. If you read my reviews, you know that the front-of-house is usually the reason for star reduction. If people go to the effort of reserving a table weeks in advance, it's probably not for the bar side where the people in line didn't even have reservations for. I asked the couple behind us and they did not make reservations and were offered a bigger table (still on the bar side) further away from the aisle. We always dress nicely when we go out and people in T-shirts and jeans are offered better seats. Our server was fantastic, drinks great, and the food was delicious! After one visit, I'm already non-stop thinking about when I can go back! The food was so good! First, the fresh warm bread with olive oil: 10/10 had that homemade taste that we all love. Greek salad w/ chicken: 9/10 very good Greek dressing and the salad is built very well with lots of elements. The feta is great and the produce is so fresh and delicious. You can taste each ingredient. I wish it was slightly more dressed, but seemed appropriate. Iced tea: 9/10 exactly what you want out of tea. You can tell it's fresh and it's not overly watered. I've been wanting to eat at Caprice for a while and finally made it in last night. Didn't realize we needed reservations so we opted to sit at the bar. The place is small and there was plenty of staff and only 3 parties sitting at the bar and yet it took a long time to even get acknowledged and provided water. It took another 15-20 for the server to come back to take our orders. There were so many people behind the bar and bustling around that it was confusing why no one checked on us, for silverware, more water, drinks, update on our food... We got bread some time later, which was yummy but then it took 20-30 minutes beyond that for our food to come out. My husband got a completely different dish than he ordered, so another 15 minutes to fire up the correct dish. We assumed everything was made fresh so we excused the long wait times. My pasta with meatballs was nothing to write home about and my husband's parpadelle with shrimp had a bitter ending - and everything needed a little salt & pepper. Unfortunately, it seemed like we were a bother or like there some sort of bias affecting our experience. No worries because we won't be coming back but I'm glad i tried the food. read more

SO gooood! Amazing food, ambience and service is absolutely stellar. I wish I would have gotten our server's name, she was lovely. The level of quality service, fresh, well executed food is absolutely the BEST experience I have had thus far in all of Redlands. Caprice is the PERFECT place for any date night, or dinner and lunch gathering. Their wine list is fabulous. We had the lamb chops (probably hands down the best lamb chop I have ever had in all my life)... an amazing smoky flavor and so tender and juicy. The beet salad and fresh baked bread were divine. The crab cakes were good. The orchette w/ roasted vegetables and sausage was such a decadent tomato broth flavor. We've been to Redlands several times and eaten there as many but had not quite found the right eating establishment. This last time was different. We were making our way down the street when we saw Caprice and decided to try it. Despite having no reservations we were seated right away which was great because we were tired from walking around for about two hours. We had drinks to start with. I am very disappointed in our dining experience at Caprice last night. I ordered the Heirloom Tomato Salad and Crab Cakes. The salad ($17.99) was a big pile of greens with a few pieces of tomato (not very flavorful), a few pieces of olive, and a slice of Burrata on top. I always look forward to the lighter than air crab cakes, but last night they were burned and dry. Ugh! My husband had the special, Grouper, and he said it was tasteless. I've lived here for years and finally made it over here for the first time. We tried several dishes and everything tasted amazing. We started out with the prosciutto crostini which was a great combination of flavors. We then tried the sautéed shrimp, which was a little underwhelming. It was a dish with six shrimp and some sauce. Overall loved the taste of the apps, but I think they were a little overpriced. I could definitely be convinced to get the prosciutto again but not the shrimp. My main was the butternut squash risotto with added chicken. I loved the flavor and texture combinations and would definitely order again. My friend enjoyed the eggplant lasagna. Overall very happy to have finally made it out here, and will definitely be coming back to further explore the menu! read more

Food: I came here twice, once with a dear friend and another time with my bf, I really really tried and wanted to like this place because it just looks so nice and fancy, but the food was not so nice and fancy unfortunately. I thought maybe it's just this one dish that was mediocre, maybe I'll like another dish, and so I tried 6 different dishes. Crab cake tasted alright but such small portion with 2 tiny circles. Wagyu burger was not special at all, even in n out cheeseburger is far superior. Meatball pizza was so salty, I felt my blood pressure rising, I had to drink so much water. Rainbow trout was very bland, it needed a lot more seasoning. Bruschetta bread was so hard to bite down on. I wasn't sure exactly what the spicy angel hair pasta was trying to be, it was confusing. But I do have to say that the food plating and presentation were well done. Price: it was about $20-30 per main dish, but considering the taste and quality of the food, it was not worth the high cost Ambiance: they really do fantastic job with interior decoration, so much greenery with a big tree inside in the middle. It has the high class romantic vibes that I love. I ordered the Pappardelle pasta, which sounded promising, but nowhere on the menu did it mention that it would be dominated by the flavor of sun-dried tomatoes. In fact, that's all I tasted--there was no hint of lemon or thyme, as the description suggested (see attached photo of the menu). When I brought it up to the staff, they didn't seem to acknowledge my concern, nor did they offer an apology or any explanation for the misrepresentation. But beyond that, it's just that: good crab cakes Wagyu burger is what everyone raves about, but really? It's a good burger yes, but is it particularly special? Not really, but I'd recommend it if you're eating here. What's not to love about a good hearty burger? Rainbow trout was probably the weak link out of our meal. The green beans were okay, the rainbow trout was cooked well and it was well, a solid 3/5. A friend and I were walking along State Street, the main drag, in downtown Redlands looking for a place for dinner. There were many options. The cute outdoor eating area of Caprice Cafe drew us in. Unfortunately, the outdoor seating was full, but we were able to get a small table inside, which also had a quaint appearance and was tastefully decorated. Once, seated, it took a while to get a menu and to get served, but our server then noticed that, and was spot on from that point forward. The menu is quite large, with a huge variety of choices. It took a while for us to both study. As it was a hot evening, we both chose salads. I chose the Roquefort salad with chicken added. My friend had the beet salad with trout added. My salad was a very generous portion and it was tasty and fresh. My friends salad was smaller, but also less pricey. She said that she enjoyed it as well. They brought out complimentary delicious bread with olive oil, and even brought more when requested. I enjoyed my dinner with a glass of vihno verde. All in all, we had a very nice, but casual meal. Ok, so I don't even know where to start. My husband and I wanted to go to Caprice for Valentine's dinner yesterday and it was fully booked. However, We were suprised whey Tyler (restaurant employee( called) us and told us we could come in at our requested time because we often visit the establishment. When we arrived, were were nicely suprised! The place had fresh red rose vases in strategic places. Baby's breath flowers decorated the tables and could be seen through the glass top. The serviers were dressed in burgundy and black. My husband and I felt like royalty. At this time, we had made up our minds that everything would be good. Had the food been bad, we would have still rated everything at 5 because so far, the service and ambience was top notch. When the food came out, it was worth the valentines' special pricing! My husband enjoyed the beef wellington and I devoured the grouper with artichokes and mashed potatoes. We went to Caprice Cafe to celebrate our 29th anniversary. The Ahi appetizer was delicious fresh and very flavorful. This one item added the third star...I decided to stick with seafood and ordered a pasta pesto dish with Salmon. My fish was hammered it was not fresh and was very very dry. It was so over cooked the bottom had a very thick dark crust. Too bad Unfortunately the server did not come back to our table. My husband enjoyed his meal, lamb chops. Dessert lukewarm Latte x2 and apple dumpling also too cold to melt the ice cream, sent back, unfortunately they heated it in the microwave which turned the philo into mush. There were glimpses of promise but Caprice just did not deliver. It was very apparent our server was proud of the restaurants history. Unfortunately she did not have appropriate back-up.
